At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced transformative changes coming to Magic Kingdom. We can now confirm that one of those additions, an all-new Cars themed area coming to Frontierland, is signaling the end of two classic Magic Kingdom attractions—Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island.

The announced Cars land will transport guests from Radiator Springs into the rugged wilderness of a new frontier, featuring a thrilling rally race through mountains, trails, and geysers alongside iconic Cars characters. In addition to this high-octane attraction, a second family-friendly ride will also be introduced with no details available on this second attraction currently available.

This change continues the recent trend of retiring attractions that have been part of Magic Kingdom since its opening, with the announcement of the retirement of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island coming shortly after the recent closure of the Frontierland Arcade to make way for a new DVC Member Lounge.

Joe Rohde’s incredible four-decade career at Walt Disney Imagineering is a testament to the power of creativity, passion, and the transformative magic of storytelling. As one of the most visionary minds behind some of Disney’s most beloved attractions, Joe has left an indelible mark on the world of theme parks and beyond. This year, his extraordinary contributions will be celebrated as he is named a Disney Legend at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 11.

Joe’s journey to becoming a Disney Legend began in an unexpected way. After graduating from Occidental College, he returned to his high school to teach art, art history, and set design. A conversation with a Disney executive, who was also the parent of one of his students, led him to submit a portfolio of his set design work to Walt Disney Imagineering.

That portfolio earned him an entry-level job in the model room, where he began to hone his craft. From his early work on the Mexico pavilion in EPCOT to the reimagination of Fantasyland at Disneyland, Joe’s eye for design quickly became evident.

He played a key role in the design of Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa in Hawai’i, bringing the rich culture and traditions of the islands to life for guests. He also helped reimagine the Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea, where he even served as the model for the character Harrison Hightower, the eccentric owner of the fictional Hightower Hotel.

Walt Disney World Expands Accessible Parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center

If you have ever attempted to use the accessible parking at the Disney Transportation and Ticket Center, you are likely well aware of how limited the number of spaces are. Accessible parking has been limited to a few rows, with the number of cars that can fit in these rows much more limited when compared to the rest of the parking lot due to the need to allow for space for lift vans.

Disney is thankfully finally addressing this limited parking situation by adding additional accessible parking spaces to the lot! Accessible parking spaces were added to the Zurg lot during a recent surface refurbishment project, with this area earmarked for overflow parking once the standard Accessible spaces are not available.

These additional spaces will help ensure those who need accessible parking spots, especially those who need the extra space to operate a lift van, are able to find a spot when the visit the parks. Well done Disney!

DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom Becoming Extinct Making Way for Tropical Americas – Timeline Announced

Progress is finally coming to the DinoLand U.S.A. section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it will result in the re-imagining of another Disney attraction. Starting this fall, the park will begin phasing out DinoLand, giving fans a last chance to experience the iconic DINOSAUR ride. The attraction, which has thrilled guests since 1998, will be reimagined as an Indiana Jones adventure, marking the end of an era for DinoLand.

The Tropical Americas land, first announced at Destination D23 2023, will feature two major attractions: the Indiana Jones ride and an “Encanto”-themed experience. Disney has already begun preparations for the change, with construction set to start soon. While the exact closing date for DINOSAUR hasn’t been announced, the transformation is expected to be complete by 2027.

This exciting new addition will bring the vibrant cultures and lush landscapes of Central and South America to life, offering guests fresh adventures and experiences at Animal Kingdom. Disneyland Paris is about to bring the magic of “The Lion King” to life with a new Pride Lands attraction, unveiled at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Set within the rebranded Disney Adventure World, this exciting addition will immerse guests in the African savanna, complete with a thrilling ride that takes them through Simba’s journey from cub to king. The attraction was announced during the Disney Parks panel on Saturday evening, and a model was available to see how the attraction will come to life the next day.

Step Into the Pride Lands- First Look At The New Lion King Adventure Coming to Disneyland Paris 2

The centerpiece of the Pride Lands will be a ride reminiscent of Splash Mountain, but with Pride Rock standing tall atop the hill. Guests will drop into a river and explore the caverns beneath Pride Rock, all while surrounded by the vibrant sights and sounds of Africa. The land will also feature dining, shopping, and character meet-and-greets, offering a full “Lion King” experience.

Disney announced an all-new Tropical Americas Land would replace DinoLand USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom last year during Destination D23. Since we have not heard much about the project since then, many fans assumed the project became yet another amazing concept that would not see the light of day. Disney surprised us all during the parks portion of D23 yesterday when they revealed that not only is this project alive and well, but it is officially an active project that will open at Animal Kingdom in 2026!

Tropical Americas will take guests inside two beloved Disney IP’s: Encanto! and Indiana Jones. The Encancto! section will include the famous Madrigal Casita. For the first time ever, guests will be able to step inside the magical Casita and join the Madrigal family on a journey through their extraordinary home.

The ride begins with Antonio, who has just received his gift of communicating with animals, as his room transforms into a lush rainforest. From there, guests will explore different rooms, each filled with surprises and the chance to meet other members of the family. With its vibrant colors, magical realism, and heartfelt story, this attraction is sure to become a family favorite.

The Indiana Jones section will see the Dinosaur attraction re-themed to an Indiana Jones attraction. Since the ride system for Dinosaur is the same as the Indiana Jones ride out in California, this transition is a no-brainer. Unlike any other Indy attraction in the world, this ride will plunge guests into the depths of a recently discovered Maya temple.

With rumors swirling about a mythical creature lurking within, it’s up to Indy — and us — to explore its secrets. From the moment you enter the temple, the excitement builds, and you can bet there will be plenty of surprises along the way. Snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Construction on the Tropical Americas land is scheduled to begin this fall, with an anticipated opening in 2027. While there’s still time to enjoy the current attractions, the promise of this new land adds even more excitement to the future of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Chip and Co gang were up bright and early out on the West Coast today after taking in all of that Disney Parks breaking news last evening. One of the areas of D23 that opened for the first time today is the parks booth, which contains models and layouts for many of the announcements made yesterday. One model that was on display is the layout of the all-new Monsters Inc. themed suspended coaster that is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we have your first look at the new attraction right here!

The roller coaster will take you on a wild ride through the factory, zipping through the scare/laugh floor and the iconic door storage area that fans know and love. The concept model, still unpainted in its white and gray form, showcases a detailed track that winds around tall supports, capturing the chaotic energy of Monstropolis perfectly. Imagine being lifted into the air by giant claws, just like the ones in the movie, and then zooming along the door track – it’s going to be a ride unlike anything Disney has done before!

While Disney hasn’t officially announced the exact location for this new land, rumors suggest it could replace the Animation Courtyard or possibly the Grand Avenue and Muppets area. Wherever it ends up, one thing’s for sure – this will be a must-visit attraction for fans of all ages.

Villains Land at Magic Kingdom Magic Kingdom is set to introduce a brand-new land dedicated to Disney’s most notorious villains. Villains Land will feature two major attractions that promise to immerse guests in the dark and thrilling world of these iconic characters.
