Disneyland Union Election for Disney Character and Parade Performers Coming Next Week

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has scheduled a union election for character performers and parade cast members at Disneyland Resort. Voting will take place May 15-18th on-site at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure,and Disney-owned hotels in Anaheim.

On April 17th, a majority of the 1,700 Disneyland Resort performers who bring beloved characters to life filed for a union election. These Cast Members, who work in parades, meet-and-greets, and character dining experiences, believe that forming a union with Actors’ Equity Association will benefit both their lives and the guest experience.

This move brings them closer to joining the majority of the Disneyland workforce, who are already unionized.Interestingly, character performers in Walt Disney World, Florida, have been unionized for years. The upcoming election will determine if these California cast members follow suit.

Disneyland Character Performers to Vote on Union Representation (May 15-18)

Voting Schedule:

Eligible Cast Members from Characters and Parades departments will vote at one of three designated locationson-site at Disneyland.
Voting will take place on Wednesday, May 15th, Thursday, May 16th, and Saturday, May 18th.
Specific voting location is assigned based on each Cast Member’s first scheduled shift for the week.

Results and Media:

Final election results are expected by the evening of Saturday, May 18th.
Media will not be allowed at voting locations.
Union activists will be available for interviews during the voting period.
Information on how election results will be announced will be provided later.

On April 17, when the petition for a union election was filed with the NLRB, Actors’ Equity Association President Kate Shindle said, “Our goal is to make ‘the happiest place on Earth’ a little happier. Equity has a very good relationship with Disney. We negotiate with them at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and with Disney Theatricals on Broadway and national tours. We look forward to meeting with their representatives across the bargaining table, and together, making the Disneyland Resort a fairer and safer place to work.”

A new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering has sparked excitement among Disney fans. The permit, titled “Install Set Elements,” suggests some exciting additions or updates might be coming to the beloved Peter Pan’s Flight attraction at Magic Kingdom.

While specifics remain a mystery, the involvement of Walt Disney Imagineering (known for their creativity) and the contractor InterAmerica Stage Inc. (specialists in themed entertainment) hint at something more than routine maintenance.

InterAmerica Stage Inc. is a long-time WDI contractor, having completed work on Test Track, Dumbo, and Spaceship Earth.

The queue for the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom has been enhanced with a beautiful floral mosaic that enriches the storytelling experience of the attraction. Positioned under the Frontierland train station, a circle of gray cobblestones features a central five-petaled lily design, matching the decoration on the nearby gate and emblematic of the attraction’s logo. This lily motif, symbolizing Tiana, is also found in various elements throughout the ride, including floating pink lilies in the water scenes.

The lily not only decorates the area but also holds significant meaning in connection to Princess Tiana’s story. It reflects the design of Tiana’s wedding crown and has been a recurring symbol in merchandise, such as the first Tiana’s Bayou Adventure pin. Additionally, the Tiana’s Foods water tower features lily-inspired decorations, tying the entire thematic presentation together.

The beloved Tinker Bell meet and greet signs at Town Square Theater have been permanently removed, signaling a shift in the character meeting options available to guests. For years, visitors could choose between meeting Tinker Bell or Master Magician Mickey Mouse at this prime location right after entering the park. However, since the park’s closure during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent return of character interactions in April 2022, only Mickey has been available for greetings in the theater.

The removal of the outdoor Tinker Bell signage, which has now been replaced by a second sign for Mickey Mouse, seems to confirm that Tinker Bell will not be returning to Town Square Theater. This decision marks the end of an era for Tinker Bell fans who cherished the opportunity to meet the pixie in a specially themed setting within the park. The theater itself has also seen changes, with all interior decorations related to Tinker Bell being replaced and Mickey’s presence doubling, emphasizing the shift towards a singular meet and greet experience.

More Good to Go Days Added for Annual Passholders

Disney has added three more “Good-to-Go Days” scheduled for May 13, 14, and 15, 2024. These days are in addition to the existing dates on May 7, 8, and 9, allowing passholders to enter all four theme parks—Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom—without needing a reservation. This enhancement offers greater flexibility and spontaneity for visiting the parks.

On “Good-to-Go Days,” passholders can bypass the usual park reservation requirements. However, it’s important to note that blackout dates still apply based on the tier of the Annual Pass. Furthermore, passholders can visit the parks without a reservation after 2 pm, except on Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom. For those using the Park Hopper benefit, a reservation is still required for the first park they visit unless it’s a “Good-to-Go Day.”

The advent of Good to Go Days also signals the end of the previous Bonus Days system, where park reservations did not count against passholders’ reservation allocations. Passholders should keep an eye on the Walt Disney World Passholder Admission Calendar for the latest updates on “Good-to-Go Days” and plan their visits to make the most of these flexible options. This strategic adjustment enhances the passholder experience, making Disney visits more magical and convenient.

Sponsored by Scentsy, this delightful experience invites guests of all ages to embark on an interactive search-and-sniff adventure that is perfect for adding a dash of aromatic magic to your Disney visit.

Upon arrival at Storybook Circus, guests are met with a charming casting call from Timothy Q. Mouse, who is looking for a “Whiff-sistant” to help with Dumbo’s newest act. Those ready to take on the role can start their fragrant quest at the ticket booth in front of Big Top Souvenirs, where a friendly Cast Member will provide them with an illustrated map and a sticker sheet. The objective? To locate and identify eight uniquely scented Smellephant statues scattered around the area, each emitting delightful fragrances such as popcorn, churros, and cotton candy.

Disneyland has worked closely with city staff, neighbors, and the local community over the past three years to make sure DisneylandForward is a win for everyone. This legacy project will set up Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for an incredibly bright future.

DisneylandForward Approval Kicks off Endless Possibilities

Almost 70 years ago, Walt Disney opened his original theme park and created a new standard of immersive experiences.

With the addition of Disney California Adventure Park, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Downtown Disney District in 2001, Disneyland Resort became the premier, multi-day vacation destination in Southern California.

Since then, Disney has continued to invest, bringing awe-inspiring expansions like Cars Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Avengers Campus, The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, and the newly reimagined Pixar Place Hotel.

The Vote for DisneylandForward is an Investment in Anaheim

Disney will be investing at least $1.9 billion in the Disneyland Resort in the first 10 years. Cal State Fullerton’s economic impact study projects increased revenues of about $15 million annually for Anaheim from each $1 billion invested. This will help fund necessary community services, including additional fire and police, parks, and libraries.

Disney has also committed to a unique benefits package for Anaheim and its residents, including $30 million for affordable housing, $8 million for parks, $85 million in traffic improvements and pedestrian safety, and continued investment in workforce development programs.

DisneylandForward will bring over 4,500 operational jobs to Disneyland Resort — which is very exciting since more than 2,200 people apply for hourly roles every week — along with nearly 9,000 construction jobs within the first 10 years.

Ken Potrock, President of the Disneyland Resort, said, “For nearly seven decades, Disneyland Resort has made a unique, irreplaceable impact on hundreds of millions of guests from around the world. How exciting to know our best days are still ahead – I can’t wait to show you what’s to come.”

Every Disney Cruise Line guest joins the Castaway Club upon sailing, unlocking perks like early booking access and onboard gifts for future trips. However, a recent update requires members to sail at least once every five years to keep their Castaway Club status. The Castaway Club Tiers are:

Silver: After completing 1 sailing
Gold: After completing 5 sailings
Platinum: After completing 10 sailings
Pearl: After completing 25 sailings

Silver Castaway Club members sailing the inaugural Disney Treasure voyage score a commemorative sea bag featuring the ship in gold lettering.

In addition to the backpack, Gold members will receive a functional blue wet-dry bag.

Platinum members receive the complete set: the commemorative backpack, a handy wet-dry bag, and a beach towel featuring artwork that complements the backpack’s design. The towel isn’t just a towel, it’s a game too! It comes with pucks featuring the Disney Treasure logo and Mickey Mouse icons.
