EPCOT’s CommuniCore Hall and Plaza Dazzle with Vibrant New Lighting Design
Following the official opening of EPCOT’s CommuniCore Hall and Plaza on June 10th, the area has been transformed after dark with a stunning new lighting design. The dynamic display, which debuted last night, features a mesmerizing array of colors and patterns that shift and evolve throughout the evening, creating a captivating atmosphere for guests.
The architectural elements of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza have been adorned with 200 LED color-changing triangles, allowing the buildings to become canvases for a kaleidoscope of vibrant light displays. The triangles can be programmed to showcase a variety of patterns, from geometric shapes to flowing waves, adding an extra layer of visual interest to the already impressive structures.
In addition to the building facades, the plaza itself is illuminated by moving spotlights that project sweeping beams of light across the sky. These dramatic light beams create a sense of wonder and excitement, drawing guests’ eyes upward and highlighting the park’s iconic landmarks.
The new lighting design at CommuniCore Hall and Plaza is a testament to Disney’s commitment to innovation and creativity. As a father living with a pre-teen daughter, I found this film resonating on multiple levels, reflecting the complex journey both parents and children undertake during these transformative years.
“Inside Out 2” picks up where its predecessor left off, with Riley now on the cusp of her teenage years. This time, she embarks on an adventure to hockey camp, a pivotal experience that acts as a backdrop for her emotional upheaval. The film introduces four new emotionsโAnxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennuiโadding nuanced layers to the narrative and providing a deeper exploration of the human psyche.
From the opening scenes, itโs clear that Pixar has matured the storyline to align with Rileyโs development. The familiar headquarters in her mind is now bustling with the new emotions, creating a dynamic interplay that mirrors the complexity of adolescence. The filmโs animation is nothing short of spectacular, capturing both the grandeur of Rileyโs internal world and the subtleties of her external experiences.
Anxiety, voiced by the ever-expressive Maya Hawke, is a jittery, wide-eyed addition who constantly frets over potential mishaps and failures. Her presence is immediately felt as Riley faces the daunting challenges of adolescence. As a parent, I saw reflections of my fears and insecurities, making Anxietyโs character all the more relatable and impactful.
Envy, portrayed by the sharp-tongued and sly Ayo Edibiri, adds a cuter, more adorable side to the emotional ensemble. She injected a very relatable take on the emotion, especially when Riley sees her peers excelling in ways she struggles to. This new emotion is a stark reminder of the pressures kids face in a world where social media amplifies the achievements of others, often to the detriment of their own self-worth.
Embarrassment, brought to life by Paul Walter Hauser, is both humorous and painfully relatable. He is the one who blushes and cringes at every awkward misstep Riley makes, from tripping on the ice to saying the wrong thing in front of new friends. His characterโs physical comedy and kindness had us and the entire theater laughing out loud.
Then thereโs Ennui, a sophisticated and somewhat aloof character voiced by French Actress Adรจle Exarchopoulos. Ennui embodies the existential dread and disinterest that often accompanies adolescence. His lethargic demeanor and ironic commentary serve as a counterbalance to the more frantic energies of the other emotions, offering a contemplative take on the inner life of a teenager grappling with how to play it cool.
The filmโs central theme revolves around Rileyโs struggle with self-worth and her core values. Hockey camp, a symbol of her passion and dedication, becomes a testing ground for her resilience and identity. The interactions between the emotions are beautifully orchestrated, illustrating the push and pull of conflicting feelings that define the teenage experience.
One of the most compelling aspects of “Inside Out 2” is its nuanced portrayal of relationships. Rileyโs connections with her teammates, coaches, and even her parents are depicted with a raw honesty that has become the hallmark of the Inside Out franchise. The film doesnโt shy away from showing the misunderstandings and emotional chasms that can develop, but it also underscores the importance of empathy and communication.
As a father, watching Riley navigate these relationships brought a lump to my throat. The film serves as a gentle yet powerful reminder of the importance of being present and supportive, even when itโs difficult to understand what our children are going through.
“Inside Out 2” also excels in its soundtrack, composed by Michael Giacchino. The music seamlessly blends with the narrative, enhancing the emotional weight of each scene. When we are hit with the familiar musical refrain, the crescendo of the film’s score augments the emotional gravitas of the moment playing out on the screen. Tears.
The film culminates in a climactic hockey game where Riley must confront her fears and insecurities head-on. As the emotions in her head work together to support her, itโs a cathartic reminder of the power of resilience and the importance of embracing all aspects of oneself, even the uncomfortable emotions.
Pixar has once again delivered a near-perfect film with “Inside Out 2.” Itโs a deeply moving, beautifully crafted exploration of adolescence that will resonate with viewers of all ages. For parents, it offers a window into the often tumultuous inner world of their children, fostering a greater understanding and empathy. For pre-teens, it provides a validating and comforting depiction of their experiences.
We give “Inside Out 2” a score of 93 out of 100. Itโs a testament to Pixarโs ability to blend heart, humor, and profound insight into an unforgettable cinematic experience. This film is not just a sequel; itโs a heartfelt continuation of a story that reminds us all of the complexity and beauty of growing up.

Ravensburger, the award-winning publisher known for its games, puzzles, and toys, has unveiled the latest addition to the popular Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game. During today’s Lorecast event, Ravensburger shared details about Shimmering Skies, the fifth set in the Disney Lorcana TCG series.
This set introduces new Disney characters and enhanced game mechanics, offering players a glimpse into the future of the realm after the defeat of the power-hungry Ursula glimmer. Shimmering Skies will launch at local game stores, Disney Stores, and Disney Parks on August 9, 2024, with a wider release at mass market retailers and on DisneyStore.com on August 23, 2024.
Additionally, Ravensburger announced a special Shimmering Skies foil card with alternate artwork, which will be available for a limited time in newly stickered copies of the Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil board game starting August 1, 2024. This exclusive card will be available at hobby stores across the US and Canada, as well as select retailers including Target.com, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Indigo Bookstores, and Mastermind Toys.
In Shimmering Skies, the realm of Lorcana hosts a grand festival to celebrate its recent victory over Ursula, marking the end of the previous set, Ursulaโs Return. As the vibrant, fun-filled activities unfold, a new mystery emerges as our Illumineers embark on a quest to repair the increasing damage Ursula’s glimmer caused to the Great Illuminary.
Shimmering Skies introduces Disneyโs Wreck-It Ralph, featuring characters like Vanellope Von Schweetz and Fix-it Felix, Jr. Players can expect new gameplay mechanics and an evolved storyline enhanced with stunning artwork and an electric energy that heightens both the celebration and the gameplay.
More details on the mechanics and other cards will be revealed as the release date approaches. All cards in this set can be used to update existing Disney Lorcana TCG decks or played alongside previous sets, including The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursulaโs Return.
The Disney Lorcana TCG set Shimmering Skies will include two starter decks featuring combinations of Emerald/Steel or Amethyst/Ruby, priced at $16.99 USD or $21.99 CAD. Additionally, booster packs with more cards will be available for $5.99 USD or $7.99 CAD, along with a new Illumineerโs Trove for $49.99 USD or $64.99 CAD.
New accessories will include two playmats, featuring Mirabel from Disneyโs Encanto and the โAccomplished Mysticโ glimmer of Belle from Disneyโs Beauty and the Beast. A new 9-pocket portfolio showcasing artwork by Disney Lorcana artist Nicholas Kole will also be available.
Card sleeves and deck boxes will feature designs inspired by Disneyโs Tiana and Aladdin. For the first time, a 9-pocket portfolio and card sleeves highlighting the Disney Lorcana TCG card back design will be available as well.
Exclusive Disney Lorcana TCG Card in Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil
A special-edition, foil version of a new Shimmering Skies card will be available exclusively in new copies of Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil. First introduced in 2023 as a limited Disney100 offering, Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil reintroduces some of the franchiseโs first Disney Villains โ Maleficent, Captain Hook, Ursula, and Prince John โ with a reduced price point, beginner-friendly video resources and โremasteredโ gameplay based off both fan feedback and the Ravensburger teamโs learnings while developing the Disney Villainous system.ย
To celebrate the gameโs launch at mass retailers and hobby stores nationwide, the Disney Villainous team lends their established art style to a Shimmering Skies card featuring Prince John. This exclusive alternative artwork Disney Lorcana TCG card can only be found in copies of the new Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil game that features an identifying sticker on the front.
First released in August 2023, the Disney Lorcana TCG is a popular trading card game set in the enchanting realm of Lorcana. Players, known as Illumineers, use magic ink to summon Disney characters, called glimmers, in both familiar and fantastical forms. The game is designed to be accessible for TCG newcomers while offering strategic depth for experienced players. With hundreds of original Disney artworks, the game appeals to beginners, expert TCG players, and Disney fans alike.
So far, four sets of Disney Lorcana TCG have been released: The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, and Ursulaโs Return. Shimmering Skies and another set are scheduled for release in 2024. In May 2024, Ravensburger also launched the Disney Lorcana TCG Challenge, an official competitive circuit in North America and Europe.
