Employee trip to Disney World cost Farm Credit $160K

With the way our economy is this just seems a bit excessive.

In March 2009, Farm Credit Canada president Greg Stewart and his wife boarded a plane to Disney World for five expense-paid days with the Crown corporation’s Bravo Club.Their family remained in Regina, the $300 childcare tab paid for by Farm Credit.

By the time the bills were in, the 2009 Bravo Club employee recognition trip to Disney World cost Farm Credit $160,000 — about $5,700 a person for 14 lucky employees and their spouses.

During the past two years, Bravo Club trips to Disney World and the Presidents Club employee recognition trips to other U.S. destinations like Nashville and Atlanta have cost Farm Credit $591,000.

Next Monday, they will do it all again. The one difference this year is Stewart and executive Greg Honey’s wives won’t be participating in the $160,000 trip — although other employees will still get to bring their spouses.

A QMI Agency analysis of more than 3,500 pages of Farm Credit Canada’s travel and hospitality expenses reveals spending many Canadian farmers can only dream about.

Seasons and playoff tickets for the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team. Another $5,125 in membership and fees for Stewart at Regina’s exclusive Wascana Country Club. Stewart, who plays golf but only uses the membership a couple of times a year, has just decided to cancel it.

Executive-class flights across the country, and hotel rooms that sometimes run more than $400 a night. Team building and management dinners washed down by bottles of cabernet, chardonnay and Crown Royal.

Alice in Wonderland Window & Merchandise Display Team hard at Work

Great article from the Disney Park Blog talking about the hard working people in the Disney Visual Presentation Team finishing up last-minute preparations for store window & merchandise displays at Downtown Disney.

With the opening of the much anticipated Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” film this week, our Visual Presentation team has been hard at work on last-minute preparations for store window displays and merchandise vignettes. Amidst her busy schedule, I was able to talk with Visual Presentation Manager Lycia Mick, who has been magically transforming merchandise locations throughout the Resort, bringing to life Alice-inspired worlds that will truly capture your imagination.

A must see for any “Alice in Wonderland” enthusiast, is the window display at Disney Vault 28 in the Downtown Disney District, which features Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” character-inspired banners, three-dimensional mushrooms, flowers and, of course, the newest “Alice in Wonderland” apparel and accessories.

Disney’s ABC may drop from Cablevision over fees

Disney's ABC may drop from Cablevision over fees

Walt Disney Co’s (DIS.N) ABC network threatened on Monday to drop its programs from Cablevision (CVC.N) in a dispute over fees, similar to an impasse between Fox and Time Warner Cable Inc (TWC.N) that was resolved earlier this year.

ABC said it would begin running on-air messages to Cablevision subscribers from Monday night to warn them they may no longer have access to the station from Sunday, March 7.

It said the company had tried to negotiate with Cablevision for the past two years, and would not continue offering its content without appropriate compensation.

“We can no longer sit back and allow Cablevision to use our shows for free while they continue to charge their customers for them,” Rebecca S. Campbell, president and general manager of ABC’s WABC-TV, said in a statement.

ABC’s shows include Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives as well as news programs like Good Morning America.

Cablevision said the company was urging ABC not to pull the plug and instead work to negotiate an agreement.

“It is shocking that in these difficult economic times, ABC Disney is threatening to remove WABC unless Cablevision and its customers pay $40 million in new fees for programming that it offers today for free, both over-the-air and online,” said Charles Schueler, executive vice president of communications and community relations at Cablevision.

Fox and Time Warner, which had similarly disagreed over how much the cable service provider should pay for the right to carry the network, reached a deal on Jan. 1 to avoid a blackout after months of negotiations.

USA Today has some great coverage:

We wanted a cast that had impact — we needed every single name to pop,” says Deena Katz, Stars‘ chief celebrity wrangler. ABC revealed the cast on Monday’s season finale of The Bachelor— including bachelor Jake Pavelka.

Stars averaged 18.2 million viewers last season, a 13% drop from Season 8’s 20.2 million, hurt by a lackluster cast and Fox rival So You Think You Can Dance. “We learned some lessons,” says executive producer Conrad Green. “This is definitely up there with the strongest casts ever.”
