Secret 2012 Disneyland Carsland Blueprint & Video

This article comes from Park Thoughts. It seems they uncovered Carsland blueprints that were hidden in this Disney Park Video that was released and posted here earlier this month. I watched the video and was oblivious to the blueprint just sitting right in front of my face. Here it is again in case you missed it..

Quoted from Park Thoughts:

Those are what appear to be the blue prints for 2012’s Carsland at the park.  They seem to be final version as it matches the models shown at the D23 Expo as well as the current cement walls/track/footers, that have been built in the area.

You should head over to Park Thoughts website and check out the video still they were able to capture and read their article. Click here for the jump.

Disney Studio head Rich Ross names Sean Bailey president of production

Sean Bailey, producer of Walt Disney Co.’s upcoming Christmas season release “Tron: Legacy” and the recently scrapped “Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” has become head of production at the Burbank studio, succeeding just-ousted Oren Aviv.

Bailey has had a producer deal at Disney for several years and was previously partnered in the production company, LivePlanet, with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Chris Moore. He also produced Disney’s Miramax release, “Gone Baby Gone,” and was executive producer of TV programs such as “Project Greenlight.”

The choice is surprising. Bailey has no experience as a studio executive, which means he could face a steep learning curve in suddenly being responsible for having to put slates of movies together rather than working on one project at a time and managing dozens of executives and filmmakers.

His boss, Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross, is also new to the movie business, having worked in television all his career, most recently as head of the Disney Channel. The executive changes are part of the ongoing restructuring of the studio under Ross, which has resulted in the ousting of several top studio executives.

Update: (12:10 a.m., Jan. 15): For more on Bailey’s appointment, including comments from his former producing partner Ben Affleck, as well as more information on yesterday’s layoffs at Disney, see the story in today’s Times.

Bryan Cranston heading to Pixar first live-action movie

“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston has joined the cast of “John Carter of Mars,” the first live-action feature from Pixar.

Andrew Stanton is directing the production for Disney’s animation powerhouse; shooting begins next week. The movie will also have CGI elements.

The adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series centers on a Civil War veteran (Taylor Kitsch) who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he becomes involved with the planet’s warring people.

Cranston plays a Civil War colonel who comes into conflict with Carter. Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton and Polly Walker are among the cast.

Cranston won the 2008 and 2009 Emmys for his role as Walter White in AMC’s “Breaking Bad.” His other credits include the dad in “Malcolm in the Middle” and the dentist in “Seinfeld.”

Bob Iger’s redrawing of Walt Disney Co continues

Bob Iger's redrawing of Walt Disney Co continues

Found this quite lengthy article from the LA Times. They talk about all the house cleaning Bob Iger is doing at Walt Disney Co, and the vision he has with Disney, Marvel, and Dreamworks.

I’m assuming that the giant pillars of the Seven Dwarfs are still atop the Team Disney building, but hearing the news Tuesday that Oren Aviv has been ousted as studio production chief, I’m getting the feeling that everything else at Bob Iger’s Mouse House is up for grabs these days. Since Iger ousted studio chief Dick Cook and installed Rich Ross as his replacement in early October, Iger and the former Disney Channel president haven’t lost any time in reshaping the studio’s executive hierarchy.

Miramax chief Daniel Battsek got the ax first, followed by Disney Motion Picture Group chief Mark Zoradi, who was followed out the door by film marketing chief Jim Gallagher. In another surprise move, Disney home video chief Bob Chapek, who was viewed by some insiders as a midlevel bureaucrat, was made head of all film distribution, from theaters to VOD and home video, clearly with an eye on moving ahead with Iger’s cherished idea of shrinking the windows between theatrical release and various home video options.

In an even more unusual move, Iger announced in November that two other top Disney execs would suddenly be switching jobs, with theme parks chief James Rasulo becoming chief financial officer and Disney CFO Thomas Staggs taking control of the $12-billion theme park division. Now there is talk that one of the leading contenders to replace Aviv is Susette Hsiung, head of production at the Disney Channel, who has worked closely with Ross since coming over from a previous job at MTV Asia.

So what does this all mean?

First, it’s an incredibly clear sign that Iger is reinventing his studio without any real concern for industry tradition or what the town, much less the top creative talent at the studio, thinks about the new executive lineup. For years, Cook was able to run Disney with autonomy, keeping Iger and his new ideas about distribution and branding at bay. But now, as one industry pal said Tuesday morning after hearing the news of Aviv’s ouster, “it’s like the Huns are sacking the crusaders’ castle.” Anyone viewed as a Cook loyalist is being ushered out the door.

The changes are also a sign that Iger is moving ahead with his plans at turning Disney into a brand factory, with Pixar, Marvel, Jerry Bruckheimer and DreamWorks all on board as brand vehicles to provide movies that can be exploited by the Disney marketing and distribution machine. It’s why many industryites aren’t so surprised that Ross might hire a relative neophyte like Hsiung as head of production. With so many movies coming in from the brand vehicles, being head of production isn’t such a high-level gig, since there won’t be many original films for the production chief to oversee.

More Magic Coming to Castaway Cay

We have an update on work being done at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise in the Bahamas, thanks to Disney Park Blog

The island is undergoing enhancements to provide new experiences for our guests and a slice of beachside luxury. Work is scheduled to be complete by Summer 2010 but we have an early look courtesy of our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Some of the enhancements taking shape on the island include an expanded family beach, a new family water playground with spraying misters and squirting water jets, and a new Scuttle’s Cove water play area for kids, with pop jets, geysers and bubblers. Also being added is a new water feature called Pelican Plunge – a 2,400-square-foot floating platform with two cool corkscrew water slides.

And for a slice of beachside luxury, guests can enjoy one of 16 new private rental cabanas located on the expanded family beach.

New stroller rental shop opens at Disneyland

Today, visitors can start renting strollers and wheelchairs at a new location at the Disneyland Resort.

The Disneyland Resort Stroller Shop is set to open in the plaza between Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure. The shop sits right of Disneyland’s main entrance and windows will face the plaza. That way, visitors can rent their wheeled devices before they enter the amusement parks, said Betsy Sanchez, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman.

The shop opens daily about a half hour before the park opens and remains open about an hour after closing.

Visitors can return strollers to either the shop or near one of the security bag-check exit points. Wheelchairs and Electric Convenience Vehicles, or ECVs, must be returned to the shop for a refundable deposit.

Walls have been up around the new stroller area for months as crews constructed the new shop.

The kennel, which is being renovated, remains right of the shop.
