Disney Review by You: Birthday Celebration at Cinderella’s Royal Table – by DeAnna Welch – Rating: 5

Had a PERFECT birthday celebration at DW recently (I will spare you ALL the details, but thought this one was worth mentioning). Had lunch reservations in Cinderella’s Castle at Cinderella’s Royal Table.

Now I can remember on a prior trip, walking up to that big wooden double door, and being turned away for lack of reservation (I was a newbie to the dining then – so let that be a lesson to ya, book this one as early as you possibly can!).
This time, I had a reservation. I gave them our name, and entered those big wooden double doors. The cool air hit us as we walked through, as did the thrill of “being on the inside”. As we stood in line, the attention to detail was amazing. At the very top of castle walls, were the 2 mice who served as Cinderellie’s confidantes throughout the movie. Cinderella herself came out and, midway through the line, everyone had their opportunity to take a picture with her – this is a very nice touch. I even have one of my son where she is giving him a kiss on the cheek – priceless.

After climbing a winding staircase, we entered the dining room. It was spectacular!! Everything you would think it to be. When we booked, we told them it was my birthday, so we were seated at, in my humble opinion, the best table in the place, our view overlooked the Carousel.

A cast member brought a birthday card to me, and told me to leave it there on the end of the table, and all of the princesses would be around to sign it, which they did. They take special time with everyone at each table taking as many pics as you want.

There are wishing stars on the tables, and each boy gets a sword, each girl gets a wand. Upon an announced instruction, they hold up their wishing stars in one hand and their sword/wand in the other. My son loved that. They close their eyes & make a wish and then lights flicker everywhere inside the castle. It’s precious to watch all the children as they make their wish, with that child-like faith.

My husband had, unbeknownst to me, ordered a Mickey birthday cake for me (great surprise and many brownie points for him). They brought it out, and an announcement came over the loudspeaker for everyone to sing Happy Birthday to me, which the entire dining room did. Yet another priceless moment. They brought us out ice cream to go with our cake, which had a chocolate crown, and mickey-shaped sprinkles on top.

Even though this restaurant costs 2 meals from your dining plan, it is well worth it. It’s an awesome experience for little girls, and for the grown-up ones, too!

Thanks, Disney, for an experience I’ll never forget.

Marvel confirms they will hire new ‘Hulk’ for ‘The Avengers’

Marvel confirms they will hire new ‘Hulk’ for ‘The Avengers’

As HitFix exclusively reported yesterday, Marvel Studios has now confirmed that it is moving forward on development with their summer 2012 blockbuster “The Avengers,” and they have decided not to cast Edward Norton in the key role of Bruce Banner, aka The Incredible Hulk.

In a statement sent in direct response to yesterday’s story from the set of “Captain America” in London, Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige forwarded the following exclusively to HitFix:

We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.”

And that, as they say, appears to be that.

Fan reaction regarding Norton’s departure from the role has been vocal, and there has certainly been much outrage at the idea of such a major piece of the puzzle being recast.  There are also fans who are so anxious to see any version of “The Avengers” onscreen that the individual casting is less important to them than the issues of villains or storyline.  One thing that is interesting in the statement is the indication that they are, indeed, looking for a name to replace Norton, and not an unknown.  Who they pick will ultimately determine whether this continues to be an issue for fans or not.

Why you want it? It must be pre-ordered at least 48 hours in advance, and by looking at that picture I can see why. Delicious! One of my top 10 Disney Desserts.

The Sanctuary

One of my favorite gardens in all of the Walt Disney Resort lies outside the Outpost at Fort Wilderness. As guests check in inside the Outpost, they have the opportunity to walk through one of the most unique landscapes anywhere. This “butterfly garden” is passionately maintained, avoiding the use of chemicals where possible. Because of this, it is a paradise for nature lovers, like myself.

I would like to offer this selection of pictures I made this morning as part one of a series embracing the simple beauty and elegance of nature, as well as the many symbiotic relationships that one finds within this single garden. These are but a handful of the many residents of “the sanctuary” …

Milkweed Bug at Fort Wilderness

I call the first image my “Tree of Life”, as it is literally crawling with life! A lone Milkweed Bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus) feeds on a milkweed seed pod, while hundreds of aphids feed on the sap from the leaves. Little do they know that the lady bug below will be soon feeding on them …

Dragonfly at Fort Wilderness

In the next photo, I am dazzled by the beautiful colors and markings of a Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly, one of dozens of varieties that constantly zip about.

Finally, a brilliantly marked Gulf Fritillary climbs deftly among lantana blossoms, searching for nectar.

Top Soccer Clubs from Around the Globe Compete in Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament

On the heels of the FIFA World Cup, nearly 200 elite youth soccer teams from around the world, including the Haitian National Women’s Under 17 team, will compete in the Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort, July 12-17.

Clubs featuring boys and girls (ages 9-17) from countries such as Brazil, Great Britain, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Malaysia, the United States and others will be joining the Haitian team in creating the largest field in the tournament’s 12-year history.

More than half of this year’s field comes from outside of the continental United States with Puerto Rico leading the international team count with 18 registered clubs. Canada is next (16), followed by Brazil (11). In all, 18 countries are represented.

“This year’s field is one of the most diverse and largest we’ve had in our tournament’s history,” said the event’s tournament director Mark Luster. “The Disney Cup continues to be a great opportunity for teams from around the world to compete against other top young athletes while also getting to relax and enjoy a vacation at Disney.”

Each team will play at least four games before advancing to a single-elimination tournament format. Championship games in various age divisions from under-9 through under-18 take place July 17.

Since 1999, the tournament has attracted teams from more than 20 countries giving participants a unique opportunity to compete on the same fields as teams from the English Premier League and Major League Soccer. For instance, Celtic Football Club, Blackburn Football Club, the MLS Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake have all competed or trained at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

About Haitian National Women’s U-17 Team

When an earthquake caused massive destruction to Haiti, the Under 17 Haitian Girl’s National Soccer team was faced with devastation and many only had their teammates and soccer to turn to. The team decided to play through the tragedy and attempt to qualify for the U17 World Cup. When the team fell short after losing two qualifier games in Costa Rica, the team returned home to Haiti not knowing what the future would hold or if the players would ever play soccer together again. They have been reunited for the Disney International Cup.

Dwyane Wade Celebrates at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Walt Disney World is the perfect place to celebrate momentous occasions and I’d say two megastars joining your team is plenty of reason to celebrate. Well, that’s exactly what Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat did over the weekend.

Fresh off of Chris Bosh and LeBron James committing to the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade celebrated his new contract and new teammates with a vacation at Walt Disney World Resort.

While on vacation, DWade made a special visit to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex where he convinced Mickey Mouse to be captain of a team during a fun 3-on-3 game with AAU girls basketball players from South Florida and Louisiana. Wade has special ties to AAU as he is a former player and also sponsors a youth boy’s team.
