  • Perry the Platypus and Agent Oso have popped up as characters, but no sign at WDW.

FANTASYLAND EXPANSION

  • Mickey and Minnie are moving to Exposition Hall once Toontown closes (announced for spring 2011). No word on if this will become their permanent greeting location, but most indicators point to yes.
  • Princesses are moving to Exposition Hall as well. Once the Fantasyland Forest is complete, the princesses will move to their appropriate locations.
  • Ariel is appearing in the Adventureland Veranda with Prince Eric. Once the Fantasyland Forest is complete, Ariel will move to her new grotto.
  • Pooh and Tigger are meeting in the Town Square Tour Guide Gardens. A new location is being rumored (sooner rather then later) to hold them until the expansion is completed.
  • Fairies are moving to a different park once Toon Town closes; they will not fit in Expo hall as initially announced, more information to come.

  • The Hoedown has transformed into a Flash Mob in Frontierland! This change occurred on February 26th.
  • The Pirate Tutorial is performing on a new stage in Adventureland! The stage was tested in summer 2009, but has become permanent as of January 5th.
  • Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee was discontinued after January 3rd with little momentum to support a possible return.
  • Totally Tomorrowland Christmas was considered a success in 2009 so there is a strong indication it will be back in 2010!

Disney’s Live Action Mulan Gets the Green Light

Disney's Live Action Mulan Gets the Green Light

Disney has agreed to invest $100 million into Zhang Ziyi’s live action, 3D adaptation of their 1998 cartoon Mulan. Ziyi plans to both produce and star in the film. The lead actor has been confirmed as Taiwan pop singer Lee-Hom Wang, who speaks fluent English.

The film will start shooting in October, as collaboration with Disney. It was originally set to be directed by Hong Kong director Johnny To, but the project was delayed for some time due to financial problems and he departed. Finally brought on board to direct was Chuck Russell, the man behind such bona fide classics as “The Mask”, “The Blob” and “The Scorpion King”.

Disney filmed “Mulan” as a cartoon in 1998, which subsequently took in 120 million US dollars at the box office.

Let your hair down with Disney Tangled

Let your hair down with Disney Tangled

On November 24, let down your hair as the enchantment continues with “Tangled,” the hilarious, 3D-animated feature that puts a modern twist on the classic tale of Rapunzel – and marks Walt Disney Pictures’ 50th full-length animated feature.

Zachary Levi provides the voice of Flynn Rider, the kingdom’s most notorious (and charismatic) bandit, who hides out in Rapunzel’s mysterious tower. Mandy Moore voices the fetching and feisty teen who takes Flynn hostage in a desperate attempt to escape her tower-bound existence. She ultimately strikes a deal with the charming thief, and the two set off on a daring, action-packed adventure … with 70 feet of magical golden hair in tow.

Directed by Byron Howard and 14-year animation veteran Nathan Greno (both of “Bolt” fame), the film features new songs and a score by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Enchanted”), with lyrics written by Glenn Slater (2008 Tony® and Grammy®-nominee for “The Little Mermaid”). The all-star voice cast includes Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, Donna Murphy, and Brad Garrett – with talent like that, good hair days are guaranteed!

Tron Legacy Zooms Into Theaters this December

Tron Legacy Zooms Into Theaters this December

The 3D, high-tech adventure “TRON: Legacy” hits theaters December 17. Fans may already be familiar with “TRON,” but the story picks up 20 years later when Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin (Jeff Bridges), formerly the world’s leading video game developer. When Sam is inadvertently pulled into the cyber universe where Kevin’s been trapped for 20 years, father and son must escape a ruthless villain determined to keep them captive in a digital realm that’s become far more advanced and dangerous than anything Kevin ever created.

In a visually stunning virtual world unlike anything seen before on the big screen, both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner (Alan Bradley/Tron) reprise their original “TRON” roles and are joined by Olivia Wilde (Quorra), Michael Sheen (Castor), James Frain (Jarvis), and Beau Garrett (Siren Jem). Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Steven Lisberger (who co-wrote and directed the original 1982 “TRON”), the film’s futuristic score was written by the Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk.

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, “TRON: Legacy” is filled with some pretty impressive firsts. It’s the first 3D movie to integrate a character with a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, which enabled filmmakers to create the younger version of Jeff Bridges’ character. In addition, some of the technological breakthroughs include extensive use of self-illuminated costumes, creating both molds and costumes via digital sculpture technology, and shooting the movie with 35mm lenses and full 35mm chip cameras.

Epic Mickey Coming Soon to Digital-Comic and Graphic Novel

Epic Mickey Coming Soon to Digital-Comic and Graphic Novel

This interesting news comes to us from Kotaku.

Disney’s Epic Mickey is only coming to the Wii, but a newly announced pair of comic book projects based on the game will bring Mickey’s adventures to other platforms, including paper, PSP and the iPhone.

Epic Mickey designer Warren Spector and comic book writer Peter David held a panel at Comic-Con today, offering a look at portions of the video game world. Peter David revealed that he was working on a series of stories that would help flesh out the fiction of Epic Mickey with a digital comic series dubbed “Tales of the Wasteland.” The comic book shorts will serve as a prologue to Epic Mickey and focus on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and “tales of what Wasteland was like before the events of the game.”

David teased one of the stories, in which Oswald decides that he would be more popular if he were a different creature. Mickey’s half-brother Oswald will try out new identities including Oswald the Lucky Duck, Oswald the Lucky Stiff—”Basically he’s a zombie,” David said—and Oswald the Lucky Devil, who finds himself on the Night of Bald Mountain from Fantasia.
