Unboxing the Magic - Alice in Wonderland Ears

Jon & Anne were one of the lucky 500 people to get their hands on not 1 but 2 sets of Alice in Wonderland Mouse Ears. I was over at their house today for Jon’s Birthday and had to snap some pictures of this beauty. Anne’ told me they are only opening one and the other one was still in its box untouched by human hands.

Here are a few more pictures to check out..The hat is very cool and I wish I could have picked one up while they were on sale.

Ask a Disney Question: Does Disney do anything special for Honeymooners?

Ask a Disney Question: Does Disney do anything special for Honeymooners?

This question comes from Shelly, who asks:  “Does Disney offer anything special for people coming down to Disney on their honeymoon?”

Shelly, thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co.   You probably know by now that there are a lot of extras you can purchase to make your honeymoon even more special:  Poolside couples massages at The Grand Floridian, having special floral arrangements and gifts delivered to your room, fireworks cruises, and special dining experiences. But there are many extras that Disney offers for free, just to help you celebrate this special time in your lives.  Keep in mind that much of this is it or miss and some honeymooners receive nothing but an acknowledgement of their celebration, so it’s best not to expect anything so you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

First, when you make your room reservation, make sure the cast member makes note that it’s your honeymoon.  Do the same thing when you call to make your advanced dining reservations (ADRs) and again when you check in at the restaurant.   When you check into your resort you’ll be given pins (more on this later) that indicate you’re on your honeymoon. They normally say “Just Married,” but other couples have been given “Happily Ever After” or “Honeymoon” pins.  It just depends on what they have at your resort when you check in; if you don’t like the pin you’ve been given, you can try to get another one at Guest Relations in the parks.  The pins let cast members know what you’re celebrating and they’ll often congratulate you or offer you special little perks like a free dessert or single you out for something associated with the attraction you’re visiting.  For example, I recently saw a honeymoon couple pulled out of the Haunted Mansion line and given a solo tour of the stretching room.  I ran into them later asked them what happened and they said the cast members put on an extra “scary” show for just the two of them. Needless to say, they were thrilled at this spontaneous bit of Disney magic.   Often when you’re dining, you’ll get a special dessert that acknowledges your honeymoon or some kind of addition to your dessert (often something as simple as a “Congratulations” written in chocolate). Sometimes in a signature restaurant, the chef will send out an amuse bouche.    Finally, most but not all couples report finding a welcome arrangement of flowers in their room.

Recently, I’ve been hearing that the honeymoon pins are being discontinued.   I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer on this, but Carly over at The Disney Wedding Blog, recently wrote that she was given good information that the pins are being phased out; she’s probably as good a Disney wedding  source outside of Disney Fairy Tale Weddings that you’ll find, so I’m betting this is the case.  Some former brides on places like Disboards and on Passporter have been offering their pins to other honeymoon couples, so if it’s important to you, double check to see if pins are available and if not, consider contacting someone who’s willing to loan theirs out.  Also, many brides and grooms wear the Mickey and Minnie bride and groom ears, so that’s another way to let everyone know you’re on your honeymoon.

Good luck. I hope this helps!

Star Wars Weekends 2010 Galactic Bounty

Article comes to us from the Disney Park Blog:

Hunting for special galactic bounty? Look no further than Star Wars Weekends 2010! Since the beginning of Star Wars Weekends, Disney Theme Park Merchandise has created out-of-this universe merchandise to commemorate the event. Every year we feature new and unique art that is created especially just for the event. Some of the merchandise can only be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during Star Wars Weekends. Once the last weekend of Star Wars Weekends comes to a close, so does the specialty logo merchandise.

I had the opportunity to chat with this year’s product developer for Star Wars Weekends, Robert LaFlamme, to find out where he got his inspiration for this year’s art logo.

“Creating this year’s logo art was easy. With ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ celebrating its 30th Anniversary, it made sense to feature one of the most infamous stars from the film, Boba Fett.” said Robert. “Boba Fett is the ‘most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy’ – it seemed only right to incorporate Boba Fett into the art to pay homage to such a recognized and notable character from the original Star Wars trilogy.” This is the first year that Boba Fett has been incorporated into the event art. “In the past, we have tried to find unique ways to bring Boba Fett into the art for the event. When the opportunity presented itself to use the bounty hunter, I jumped at it.” explained Robert.

Now Showing - Camp Rock 2 "It's On" Music Video

Video is now available below!

The stars of “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam” – the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Meaghan Martin, Matthew “Mdot” Finley, Jordan “J” Francis, Roshon Fegan, Alyson Stoner and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle — rock the exhilarating song “It’s On!” in a music video premiering FRIDAY, MAY 14 (8:25 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel.

Choreographed by the movie’s Rosero McCoy, it’s the first-ever concept music video from the leading channel for kids, tweens and families. “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam,” part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, premieres Friday, September 3.

Beginning May 15, tickets go on sale for Jonas Brothers’ three-continent concert tour with special guest Demi Lovato. Combining spectacular production with unrivaled performances of the artists’ hits, as well as music from “Camp Rock” and its highly anticipated sequel, the tour will also feature appearances by their friends and co-stars from both “Camp Rock” movies. Produced by Live Nation and sponsored by OfficeMax, the tour kicks off Tuesday, July 27 in Dallas, Texas, and will continue throughout North America, Latin America and Europe throughout the Summer and Fall. Further information is available at www.livenation.com and teamjonas.com

The soundtrack to “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam” releases July 27 on Walt Disney Records. It features original songs that span hip-hop, rock and dance, and is the biggest, broadest music yet for a Disney Channel Original Movie.

“It’s On” was written by Toby Gad (who co-wrote “If I Were A Boy” for Beyoncé and “Big Girls Don’t Cry” for Fergie), Lyrica Anderson and Kovasciar Myvette. The “It’s On” music video was directed by Brandon Dickerson

In the contemporary musical, the magnetic song, a hybrid of rock and hip-hop, exclaims “the game is on” between Camp Rock and its rival, Camp Star — the big-money performance camp from across the lake — and sends an empowering message that both camps are ready to show what they’ve got.

New Construction Photos of the Disney Dream

Quite astonishing in size, yet very recognizable is the bow of the Disney Dream cruise ship, pictured here in its unfinished state in the shipyard. Soon this section will be lowered into place in the building dock where construction continues, on track for the January 26, 2011, Maiden Voyage.

Similar to the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder, the intricate scrollwork pattern is reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s. Look closer and you’ll recognize our signature Mickey Medallion, front and center, which adds just the right amount of Disney whimsy to the design.

Disney Cruise Line Fun Facts - Castaway Cay and the Enviroment

Castaway Cay
– Castaway Cay is the only private island in the cruise industry where the ship docks alongside so guests do not have to tender to land.

– Visitors to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, can catch a glimpse of the ghost ship Flying Dutchman – the actual, full-size studio prop from the Disney film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest moored in the waters just offshore.

– Guests can mail a special souvenir message to family and friends back home by using the Castaway Cay Post Office. All postcards, letters and packages shipped from the island display an exclusive Castaway Cay postmark.

– Water is procured in Port Canaveral and delivered to Castaway Cay by the ships to an 80,000 gallon fresh water storage tank on the island.

– Feels like home? Approximately 60 Disney Cruise Line crew members live and work full-time on Castaway Cay.

Environmental Programs
– Each Disney ship has an onboard Environmental Officer dedicated to overseeing all environmental systems and procedures, along with shipboard recycling, waste minimization and water reclamation efforts.

– While cruising, Disney ships can convert sea water to fresh water for use onboard. An onboard desalinization plant produces nearly 500,000 gallons of fresh water every day.

– Disney Cruise Line made history by being the first cruise line to utilize an innovative hull coating that is both 100 percent non-toxic and effective in increasing fuel efficiency. The coating helps reduce the ships’ surface resistance in the water, decreasing the need for propulsion power as the ship glides through the sea.

– On Castaway Cay, an innovative recycling program repurposes used cooking oil from the ships’ galleys and combines it with diesel fuel to power machinery on the island. The program reduces waste and carbon dioxide emissions, saving up to 8,000 gallons of traditional fuel each year.

– Shipboard recycling systems help divert more than 405 tons of aluminum, plastics, paper and non-traditional recyclables from conventional waste streams each year. That’s the equivalent of over 27 school buses or 12 humpback whales.

– Researchers at Castaway Cay are helping to restore the health of coral reefs through a unique research project transplanting native sea urchins in The Bahamas. The urchins help to control harmful algae levels that can choke out corals, and the project is providing vital research for rebuilding coral reef systems that serve as homes for tropical fish and marine life.
