Creating the Perfect Disney Dining Day – Where would you grab 3 meals and a snack?

Creating the Perfect Disney Dining Day - Where would you grab 3 meals and a snack?

I love planning for our Disney Vacations. Since I am always reading Disney News Articles, looking at Disney Food Photos, and running  a Disney website I try to think of different fun ways to plan for our next vacation. In between writing Disney Food Confessions and Top Eat articles this past week I thought what would be my Perfect Disney Dining Day. Start to finish if money were no object and I had ADR’s waiting on me anywhere. What places would I choose?

My wife and I have dined at almost every Disney restaurant over the years except for some of the Higher Priced Signature Restaurants and of course Club 33.

So out of all the restaurants I have dined at what places would make up the perfect day from Breakfast through dinner including one snack. Follow along with me as I pick my favorites and then afterwards let me know yours either here or over on Facebook.

BreakfastKona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort – Tonga Toast with bacon and Kona Coffee French Press & POG Juice. Earlier this year when we went to Walt Disney World we actually ate here twice it was so good! Truly a one of a kind breakfast item!

LunchLe Cellier Steakhouse Canadian Pavilion Epcot – After a hearty breakfast and armed with a magical metabolism I manage to be hungry again. So I stop off at Le Cellier for Cheddar Cheese Soup with Pretzel Bread, and a Medium Rare Steak. For dessert I dive into a Chocolate-on-Chocolate Whiskey Cake.

DinnerBoma Flavors of Africa Animal Kingdom Lodge – Fresh ingredients and unique African flavor this place is hands down my all time favorite place to eat at Disneyworld. The atmosphere is great, food even greater, and the service is spot on! This is the perfect meal to end the perfect day. But wait I almost forgot my snack.

SnackDole Whip from Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom – The Dole whip is one of my Top 10 Disney Desserts. It’s a perfect pairing for sitting at the Magic Kingdom and watching the fireworks. Since this is all hypothetical I am going to imagine I can take my time and eat this yummy dessert without it melting at all.

So that is my choices for Perfect Disney Dining Day. Now its your turn to let me know yours in the comment section below or on our Facebook Page.

Handheld Wireless Devices will assist Disabled at Disney Parks

Handheld Wireless Devices will assist Disabled at Disney Parks

Very Exciting News from Disney Parks Blog:

Here at Disney Parks, we’re always looking for new ways to make attractions and experiences more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Today, I got a sneak peek at a first-of-its-kind technology that will change the way some guests with disabilities experience Disney parks.

Disney engineers have plussed up their Assistive Technology Device to provide detailed descriptions of outdoor areas for visually impaired guests. Using an interactive audio menu, guests can choose the type of information they’d like to receive, from architectural elements to the location of the nearest restroom. It works using wireless technology to pinpoint its location and take pre-programmed actions. Best of all, it fits in the palm of your hand.

Handheld Wireless Devices will assist Disabled at Disney Parks

The Disney engineers I talked to reminded me that the device already combines many other features, including detailed audio description for more than 50 attractions; amplified audio for guests with mild to moderate hearing loss; handheld captioning that lets guests read captions while enjoying specific rides; and activation of closed captioning on television displays in pre-show areas.

Here’s a sample:

Ask a Disney Question: What is a Grand Gathering?

Ask a Disney Question: What is a Grand Gathering?

This question comes from Emery, who asks, “What is Disney’s Grand Gathering? Is it food related? I couldn’t find any news on your site about it.”

Emery, good call. We don’t have any information up about Disney Grand Gathering, which is useful information to have.  A grand gathering is for groups of eight or more; children under three-years of age do not count towards your total.   To qualify, 80% of your group must stay at a Disney resort or at the Swan or Dolphin.  When you call to arrange this, you’ll be assigned a grand gathering number and all your reservations will be linked together.    The nice thing is that while your reservations are linked, you can pay for your own room (or rooms), dining plan, tickets and extras  individually, so it’s easy for everyone to keep track of what they owe and when they need to pay for it.  The only thing the grand gathering number does to your reservation is link your group together.

Having your large group designated as a “grand gathering” allows you to get extra help with making dining reservations, ensures that your rooms are all together if you’re staying at the same resort, and qualifies you to sign up for activities designated especially for grand gatherings, including:

  • International Dinner and IllumiNations Desert Reception. Available on selected evenings in Epcot, this dinner includes an international dinner followed by story time for the kids, a character meet and greet, a dessert party and special viewing area for illuminations.  $59.99 for adults; $24.99 for children.
  • Guests of the Good Morning Gathering will be escorted into the Magic Kingdom by Tony and other Disney characters and served breakfast at Tony’s Town Square.  $39.99 for adults; $19.99 for children.
  • Magical Fireworks Voyage. Dessert party and a character meet and greet followed by a fireworks cruise on the Seven Seas Lagoon.  $34.99 for adults; $19.99 for children.
  • Safari Celebration Dinner at Animal Kingdom includes a special dinner and nighttime safari with your own guide.  $59.99 for adults; $24.99 for children.

You’ll make these and your other dining reservations at the regular 180-day mark. You can have your group designated as a grand gathering whenever you make your resort reservations, up to 500 days in advance.

I’ve heard grand gathering cast members described as some of the most experienced cast members on site, so you can be sure that they’ll have a good idea of where larger groups can dine comfortably (and together) and what resorts may work better for your group’s needs.   Make sure that when you make your reservations that you discuss any mobility or other issues anyone in your group may have so that you can best be  accommodated.

One caveat:  Keep in mind that while having your resort rooms grouped together can be convenient, it can mean that some of you may not have a balcony. If this is a perk that’s important to you, make sure you let the cast member know when you make your reservations so that this can be avoided, if possible.

Thanks for your question and for reading Chip and Co.  I hope this helps!

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Script Details Released

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Script Details Released

Disney has released details about its forthcoming Pirates of the Caribbean instalment, just as a copy of the film’s script was left behind in a British cafe.

On Monday, Disney revealed some plot and casting details about Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides from California.

The new fourth film in the international blockbuster franchise will see Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow once again face questionable allies and board the ship of another famed pirate in search of a supernatural treasure.

Though former co-stars Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have opted out of the new film, Geoffrey Rush (Captain Hector Barbossa) and Kevin McNally (Joshamee Gibbs) will return.

Directed by Rob Marshall, On Stranger Tides will see Depp’s charming and loopy but devious captain cross paths with a femme fatale from his past (portrayed by Oscar-winner Penelope Cruz) and forced to embark on a new adventure alongside the formidable Blackbeard (Ian McShane). Newcomers will also include French ingenue Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid and British actor Sam Claflin as a young missionary.

As he prepares for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan, Dave finds it is going to take all of the courage he can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE.

Disney monorail probe now expected to extend into fall

Disney monorail probe now expected to extend into fall

This article comes to us from the Orlando Sentinel’s Daily Disney:

A year-long federal investigation into last summer’s fatal monorail crash at Walt Disney World is now expected to continue for at least several more months.

The National Transportation Safety Board said Monday that it does not expect to conclude its probe in the July 5, 2009, accident, which killed 21-year-old monorail driver Austin Wuennenberg of Kissimmee, until the fall at earliest.

“We’re now in the final stages of the investigation,” NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson said. But he added, “I don’t think we’re going to see anything this summer.”

Knudson said it is possible that the investigation could take until the end of 2010.
