Marvel Announces Tron: The Betrayal

Marvel Announces Tron: The Betrayal

Marvel is proud to announce TRON: THE BETRAYAL, a new two-issue limited series serializing the highly anticipated graphic novel from Disney Publishing Worldwide, tying into Walt Disney Pictures’ high-tech adventure.

The limited two-issue series arrives in October and serves as a prequel to the Disney film, “TRON: Legacy.” The movie hits U.S. theaters in Disney Digital 3DTM and IMAX 3D® on December 17, 2010.

Each extra-sized issue of TRON: THE BETRAYAL features a new cover by superstar artist Salvador Larroca (INVINCIBLE IRON MAN). Featuring art and stories by some of the top names in comics today, this all-new story extends upon the mythology of the world of TRON.

The storytelling picks up in the aftermath of Walt Disney Pictures’ first film in its franchise TRON. Kevin Flynn is now in charge of Encom, the world’s largest video game company. Kevin, a break-through game developer, has built the Grid, a digital world filled with living programs. This new virtual world is about to develop a life of its own and, in order to control it, Flynn’s going to need to help of an old friend…named Tron.

“Marvel Publishing is excited to bring Disney Book Group’s first TRON graphic novel to comic book fans in this limited series,” said Ruwan Jayatilleke, Marvel Senior Vice President, Development & Planning, Print, Animation and Digital Media. “So whether you’re new to TRON or a longtime fan, TRON: THE BETRAYAL is an action-packed thrill-ride that will not disappoint!”

Let your hair down with Disney Tangled

Let your hair down with Disney Tangled

On November 24, let down your hair as the enchantment continues with “Tangled,” the hilarious, 3D-animated feature that puts a modern twist on the classic tale of Rapunzel – and marks Walt Disney Pictures’ 50th full-length animated feature.

Zachary Levi provides the voice of Flynn Rider, the kingdom’s most notorious (and charismatic) bandit, who hides out in Rapunzel’s mysterious tower. Mandy Moore voices the fetching and feisty teen who takes Flynn hostage in a desperate attempt to escape her tower-bound existence. She ultimately strikes a deal with the charming thief, and the two set off on a daring, action-packed adventure … with 70 feet of magical golden hair in tow.

Directed by Byron Howard and 14-year animation veteran Nathan Greno (both of “Bolt” fame), the film features new songs and a score by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Enchanted”), with lyrics written by Glenn Slater (2008 Tony® and Grammy®-nominee for “The Little Mermaid”). The all-star voice cast includes Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, Donna Murphy, and Brad Garrett – with talent like that, good hair days are guaranteed!

Tron Legacy Zooms Into Theaters this December

Tron Legacy Zooms Into Theaters this December

The 3D, high-tech adventure “TRON: Legacy” hits theaters December 17. Fans may already be familiar with “TRON,” but the story picks up 20 years later when Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin (Jeff Bridges), formerly the world’s leading video game developer. When Sam is inadvertently pulled into the cyber universe where Kevin’s been trapped for 20 years, father and son must escape a ruthless villain determined to keep them captive in a digital realm that’s become far more advanced and dangerous than anything Kevin ever created.

In a visually stunning virtual world unlike anything seen before on the big screen, both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner (Alan Bradley/Tron) reprise their original “TRON” roles and are joined by Olivia Wilde (Quorra), Michael Sheen (Castor), James Frain (Jarvis), and Beau Garrett (Siren Jem). Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Steven Lisberger (who co-wrote and directed the original 1982 “TRON”), the film’s futuristic score was written by the Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk.

One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, “TRON: Legacy” is filled with some pretty impressive firsts. It’s the first 3D movie to integrate a character with a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, which enabled filmmakers to create the younger version of Jeff Bridges’ character. In addition, some of the technological breakthroughs include extensive use of self-illuminated costumes, creating both molds and costumes via digital sculpture technology, and shooting the movie with 35mm lenses and full 35mm chip cameras.

Epic Mickey Coming Soon to Digital-Comic and Graphic Novel

Epic Mickey Coming Soon to Digital-Comic and Graphic Novel

This interesting news comes to us from Kotaku.

Disney’s Epic Mickey is only coming to the Wii, but a newly announced pair of comic book projects based on the game will bring Mickey’s adventures to other platforms, including paper, PSP and the iPhone.

Epic Mickey designer Warren Spector and comic book writer Peter David held a panel at Comic-Con today, offering a look at portions of the video game world. Peter David revealed that he was working on a series of stories that would help flesh out the fiction of Epic Mickey with a digital comic series dubbed “Tales of the Wasteland.” The comic book shorts will serve as a prologue to Epic Mickey and focus on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and “tales of what Wasteland was like before the events of the game.”

David teased one of the stories, in which Oswald decides that he would be more popular if he were a different creature. Mickey’s half-brother Oswald will try out new identities including Oswald the Lucky Duck, Oswald the Lucky Stiff—”Basically he’s a zombie,” David said—and Oswald the Lucky Devil, who finds himself on the Night of Bald Mountain from Fantasia.

Pixar: 25 Years of Animation Exhibition Opens at Oakland Museum of California

Pixar: 25 Years of Animation Exhibition Opens at Oakland Museum of California

The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) presents PIXAR: 25 Years of Animation, a major exhibition of over 500 works by the artists at Pixar Animation Studios, including drawings, paintings, and sculptures that illustrate the creative process and craftsmanship behind Pixar’s wildly successful computer-animated films. The exhibition opens this Saturday, July 31, and runs through January 9, 2011. www.museumca.org

This is a significantly enhanced presentation of the exhibition, which is returning home to Oakland after a successful worldwide tour that began at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2005. Expanding the presentation will be the integration of relevant artwork and objects from the OMCA collections that expand the exhibition including rare 19th century Eadweard Muybridge motion study photographs, an early zoetrope, and interactive stations in the art and history galleries that unlock the creative process and history of animation.

At the heart of PIXAR are the concept drawings, sketches, paintings, maquettes, storyboards and colorscripts created by Pixar artists over the past 25 years to bring to life the compelling characters and stories that have enchanted moviegoers of all ages around the world. Drawing on work from Pixar’s eleven feature films and many of its short films, the exhibition spans some of the studio’s first short films created in the 1980s; its first feature-length film, Toy Story, the first fully computer-animated feature film ever produced; Pixar’s recent Academy Award®-winning feature Up; and its latest film, Toy Story 3. PIXAR will showcase more than 500 artifacts, including many of the pencil drawings; paintings in acrylic, gouache, and watercolor; and sculptures that form the backbone of the computer-generated images (CGIs) for which Pixar has become internationally recognized.

A highlight of the exhibition will be two special media installations—Artscape, an immersive, wide-screen projection of digitally processed images that gives the viewer the sensation of entering into and exploring the exquisite details of the original artworks; and the Toy Story Zoetrope, a three-dimensional device that displays a rapid succession of images, creating the illusion of motion.

Disney-Time Warner Cable Dispute Could Lead to Lost Disney Channels

Disney-Time Warner Cable Dispute Could Lead to Lost Disney Channels

I am not sure why more people aren’t talking about this! This articles comes to us from WKRC in Cincinnati.

A Time-Warner cable dispute could mean local homes will no longer get Disney owned channels — which include the ESPN channels.

The debate also involves the Disney Channel, ABC Family and SoapNet. Time Warner argues it is trying to avoid paying higher programming costs to providers because it will mean customers pay much more for their cable service. But ESPN says programming costs do not drive up the rate for customers because it only represents a third of the cable company’s total cost.

Disney is directing viewers to go to other providers — including Direct TV. The deadline to reach a deal is September 2nd.

Both sides have set up websites with their views on the debate. For the Disney site, click here.  For the Time-Warner site, click here.
