Disney Parks Memories Sweepstakes – I’ve Entered, Have You?

There is a brand new Disney Parks Memories Sweepstakes. You can enter for a chance to win a 4-person family vacation to a Disney Resort each week in February. It is easy to enter, just follow the rules below. I plan to enter every day and I hope you will too.  Good luck!

According to the Disney website, the sweepstakes will be conducted during the period commencing at 12:01 A.M., January 31, and ending at 11:59:59 P.M., February 28, 2011, as  four (4) separate sweepstakes:  “Weekly Sweepstakes One” beginning January 31, at 12:01 A.M. and ending February 6, 2011 at 11:59:59 P.M.(“First Entry Period”); “Weekly Sweepstakes Two” beginning February 7, at 12:01 A.M. and ending February 13, 2011 at 11:59:59 P.M. (“Second Entry Period”); “Weekly Sweepstakes Three” beginning February 14, at 12:01 A.M. and ending February 20, 2011 at 11:59:59 P.M. (“Third Entry Period”) (individually, “Weekly Sweepstakes”) and the “Grand Sweepstakes” beginning February 21, at 12:01 A.M. and ending February 28, 2011 at 11:59:59 P.M. (“Grand Entry Period”).  For purposes of these Official Rules (“Rules”), all times and days are Pacific Time.  No Entries for any Weekly Sweepstakes will be eligible for roll over into eligible Entries for any subsequent Weekly Sweepstakes, but all eligible Entries for all Weekly Sweepstakes  will be rolled over into eligible Entries for the Grand  Sweepstakes.

The Disney Fairy Tale Weddings by Alfred Angelo collection is inspired by the style and personality of seven iconic Disney Princess characters: Ariel, Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White and Tiana. Special Program Provides Tax Help to Thousands of Disney Cast Members

What if I’m missing my W-2? Have I filled out all of the right forms? How do I know what is and isn’t deductible?

As millions of Americans deal with those questions on their own this tax season, thousands of Disney cast members can take advantage of free or reduced-cost tax assistance available on site at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

“Our free and low-cost tax assistance continues to be a popular offering for our cast members,” said Tracy Swanson, vice president of Workforce Planning, Benefits and Health for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “Offering tax assistance helps take the stress out of tax season and provides our cast members peace-of-mind knowing their forms are filled out correctly and they’ve maximized any return that’s due to them.”

Disney has offered tax assistance to cast members for more than 20 years. In that time, these programs have evolved to include not only on-site tax preparation but complete e-filing services as well.

At locations across Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, cast members receive advice on some of their most pressing concerns about their taxes by expert volunteers from the IRS, AARP and local law schools.

Volunteers have assisted cast members with issues ranging from changes to the tax code to the discovery of deductions they never knew were available to them.

The program is now so popular it has grown to include Saturday sessions and double the number of free tax assistance sessions from last year.

To take advantage of the services, cast members only need to provide their W-2’s and other important tax filing documents, like charitable receipts and interest statements. All of the IRS forms and expert advice are waiting for them.

Bomb Squad Called to Walt Disney World

According to WESH authorities were called out to investigate a suspicious package at Walt Disney World’s Shade of Green Resort. The package was received but there was no return address on it.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad determined that the package was not a threat, and just a precaution the Sheriff’s office took due to an international conference taking place at WDW.

Shades of Green Resort is on Disney property but is operated as an Armed Forces Recreation Center for the exclusive use of military members and their families.

Chilean Miners Honored at Walt Disney World Resort

Magical new memories were embraced today by the rescued Chilean miners as they paraded down Main Street, U.S.A. in grand fanfare at Walt Disney World Resort toward the close of a Disney-sponsored vacation honoring the miners, their rescuers and their families.

Last fall, the world united to celebrate the dramatic rescue of the trapped Chilean miners.  Since last Thursday, the miners and their rescuers and families joined in a festive gathering in their honor at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Aboard Copa Airlines, the group of nearly 160 Chileans arrived last week in grand style to Orlando International Airport where they received a ceremonial “water salute” by local firefighting vehicles: a dramatic arch of water rising over the tarmac as the airplane passed underneath.

Their summer holiday (seasons are reversed in Chile) included a welcome party Friday hosted by Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton and local dignitaries at The American Adventure pavilion in Epcot.  The miners enjoyed a long weekend filled with thrilling attractions, shopping, character hugs and VIP treatment in all four theme parks, creating lasting memories with their families.

One highlight of their six-night vacation to Disney was serving as Grand Marshals of the Main Street, U.S.A. parade Monday in Magic Kingdom.  The miners and rescuers were greeted by cheers of guests waving Chilean flags in their honor, Disney characters and entertainers pulling out all the stops and the ‘Mayor’ of Main Street proclaiming their special day.  To the accompaniment of “When You Wish Upon a Star” their day was capped by daytime pyrotechnics and streamers in a rainbow of colors of the Chilean flag.  Later that evening, they watched Cinderella Castle magically transform during the nighttime spectacle, “The Magic, The Memories, and You!”, a projection spectacular starring images of guests shot earlier in the day in the park.

“These courageous men captivated the world with their story of hope and perseverance,” said Disney President and CEO Bob Iger.  “Great stories are at the heart of all we do at The Walt Disney Company and we are pleased that the next chapter in this inspirational story is taking place at Walt Disney World Resort.”

The Chilean miners (31 of the 33 miners were able to make the trip) were scheduled later Monday to share their lessons of hope, courage and pride with about 40 youngsters from local Boys & Girls Clubs.

Trapped 2,300 feet inside the earth for 69 days in a collapsed Chilean mine, the men were pulled from the darkness in a miracle rescue. In one of 2010’s most compelling stories, their unbending faith and endurance sustained them throughout a saga that transfixed the world.

“We are not the heroes,” said Omar Reygada, one of the miners whose comments were translated from Spanish.  “Our families and all the people around the world who prayed, wished us well and helped us through our ordeal – those are our real heroes.”

During their Walt Disney World vacation, the miners also will be treated to a keepsake group photo in front of Cinderella Castle and personal photo albums of their visit.

Their departure for home is scheduled for Feb. 2.

Re-mastering Wonderland

On February 1, 2011, Disney fans young and old will be able to delight in Walt Disney’s classic re-telling of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.”  And just in case you’re thinking, “Hey, this already came out,” think again.  This is Alice as you have never seen it before.  The creative wizards at Disney have re-mastered the classic and presented the magic in stunning blu-ray.  The classic story is just how you know and love it; however, the richness of the colors and the textures will blow you away and take you further into Alice’s world than you have ever been before.

In addition to the stunning presentation of the classic film, Disney has provided a variety of unique viewing options along with some rare animated gems and a fun family game.  Not only can you choose to watch the movie the regular way, but Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” on blu-ray provides you with the option to watch it in Disney View.  For those of you who have ever been to the old style theaters such as the El Capitan Theater (http://elcapitan.go.com/) in Hollywood, CA, it is very reminiscent of that style.  The film plays with beautifully detailed side bars as opposed to the standard black spaces seen on today’s larger screen televisions.  In fact, we viewed the film both ways and really preferred Disney View to the standard option.

Another viewing mode is actually seen by accessing the “Through The Keyhole:  A Companion’s Guide to Wonderland.”  This version actually plays the movie on half of the screen while playing interviews, classic illustrations, and historic pictures on the other side.  This mode is for the true history or Disney history buff or someone who just wants a new way to view an old classic.  It provides intricate detail about Lewis Carroll and his story along with information about how Walt and his crew brought the film to the big screen.  For example, did you know that in the original version of the movie, the author’s name is misspelled on the title screen?  This is just one of the interesting little tidbits you will pick up from this viewing companion.

The combo pack includes a blu-ray copy and a dvd copy of the film.  The features from the prior dvd release are still on the disc and they have included some footage from pencil tests and reference footage.  Ever wonder what the real Alice looked like?  Well, you will get to see and hear her on this version!  And we cannot forget the Painting the Roses Red puzzle game that will delight the entire family.  It is not just one of those random point and click games.  This is actually a puzzle game where you must complete each level before you can unlock the subsequent level.

Finally, being fans of previews, we cannot forget the sneak peeks.  On this disk you will get a glimpse at the (wait for it), new “Winnie the Pooh” movie.  That’s right.  We are not talking about a re-make or a side story.  This is a whole new feature film about your favorite honey-hungry bear.  Along with this tantalizing teaser are “Bambi” on blu-ray, “Dumbo” on blu-ray, “The Incredibles” on blu-ray, “Tangled,” and “Spooky Buddies.”

If you are looking to reminisce with an old classic or share a Disney classic with a new audience, you will not be disappointed with “Alice in Wonderland” on blu-ray.
