ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” Partners With GetGlue.com For Holiday-Themed Stickers

ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” Partners With GetGlue.com For Holiday-Themed Stickers

ABC Family has joined forces with GetGlue to support the network’s hit original series “Pretty Little Liars.” ABC Family and GetGlue have created special “Pretty Little Liars” stickers to recognize and reward loyal fans between the show’s summer and winter season. This is the most creative and one of the most extensive partnerships to date between GetGlue and an entertainment property.

Beginning today, fans can go to GetGlue.com to earn four different character stickers in order to unlock a fifth “secret” sticker.  In addition, fans will be able to earn stickers that are tied to each of the holidays between now and the show’s return in January including Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. These limited edition stickers will only be available on each individual holiday, which increases their value and exclusivity for fans.

GetGlue is the leader in the fast-growing entertainment check-in market where people can connect with friends and fans around the TV shows that they are watching. There is a lightweight game associated with the service that recognizes and awards fans for interacting with their favorite TV shows. The digital rewards, called stickers, are status symbols that highlight fan achievements and recognize loyalty to the show.

Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in over 98 million homes. ABC Family features programming reflecting today’s families, entertaining and connecting with adults through relatable programming about today’s relationships – told with a mix of diversity, dysfunction, passion, humor and heart. ABC Family’s programming is a combination of network defining original series and original movies, quality acquired series and blockbuster theatricals. ABC Family is also the destination for annual Holiday events with “13 Nights of Halloween” and “25 Days of Christmas!” ABC Family. A New Kind of Family.

China’s Youku Secures Deal With Disney to Stream TV Shows

China’s Youku Secures Deal With Disney to Stream TV Shows

This article comes to us from PC World.

Youku, China’s largest video hosting site, has partnered with Disney to begin streaming the studio’s TV shows, said the company’s CEO Victor Koo.

Koo made the statements on Monday during a speech at China 2.0, a conference hosted in Beijing by Stanford University. Youku has also launched a beta version of a subscription service that will allow users to view certain content such as select movies and education videos.

Youku has yet to release any official information on its partnership with Disney or its subscription platform. A visit to the site shows that Youku has already uploaded five season’s of the hit TV series Desperate Housewives. The videos are subtitled in Chinese.

The agreement with Disney comes as Chinese video hosting sites are moving away from showing illegally uploaded content. Chinese users continue to upload pirated popular American TV shows and movies to sites like Youku, even as the companies have been vigilant in deleting such content.

But for the first time, legal videos from major Hollywood studios are starting to hit video sites in China.

Signs of life at Disney World’s Pleasure Island

Signs of life at Disney World’s Pleasure Island

This article comes to us from Jason Garcia at the Orlando Sentinel.

Two years after Walt Disney World turned out the lights at the nightclubs of Pleasure Island, there are signs of life for the near-forgotten entertainment district.

Disney this week filed a pair of permits signaling the start of new construction at Pleasure Island, a once-popular dining-and-dancing spot that has since become little more than a cut-through between the two retail ends of Downtown Disney. The permits suggest that at least two old Pleasure Island venues — BET Soundstage and Adventurers Club — will be razed completely.

What’s more, Disney World President Meg Crofton last week publicly hinted that changes were imminent. In a ceremony honoring new Disney World ambassadors, Crofton listed the “reimagining of Downtown Disney” among a list of current construction projects at the resort, along with the Fantasyland expansion at the Magic Kingdom and a new hotel dubbed Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

Disney declined to discuss the Pleasure Island work in any detail Tuesday morning. Spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez described it as “general refurbishment.”

Good Eats: Pretzels from Sommerfest in the Germany Pavilion

Good Eats: Pretzels from Sommerfest in the Germany Pavilion

Pretzels are one of those items that you can get at any park but the ones over at Germany’s Sommerfest and the carts are different. These pretzels aren’t the kind that you find in your freezer section of your local grocery store. These pretzels are really good. They are big, soft, fresh and have a nice butter coating with pretzel salt. It is one of my favorite snacks and I rarely ever miss grabbing one with a good German beer. This pretzel you can eat by itself or dip it in a nice spicy brown mustard. Either way, it’s good. So if you haven’t tried these make sure to pick one up on your next trip to Epcot.

Tip: If you are making these at home using the Disney recipe, melt a little bit of butter to brush on top before place in the oven. Also, it’s great dipped in Bavarian Beer Cheese Spread (which isn’t Disney but delicious).

Thanks to the wonderful Kristen for this yummy treat!

Season Two of “V” Will Premiere January 4, 2011, on ABC

“V,” the thrilling drama series about the world’s first alien encounter that captivated viewers last season, will make its highly-anticipated season premiere on TUESDAY, JANUARY 4 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.

Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V’s) arrived offering us the wonders of their technology and promoting peace. While the world quickly embraced the V’s as saviors, an FBI Counter Terrorist Agent, and others making up the resistance group called The Fifth Column, quickly discovered that the Visitors are not who they said they were. Will humanity stop being fooled and realize the Visitors true intentions before it becomes too late and they take over Earth?

“V,” which received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series, stood as television’s No. 1 new drama during the 09-10 TV season in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, delivering substantial year-to-year improvement in both of its Tuesday time periods (8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.). “V” finished No. 1 in both time periods among key Men (M18-34/M18-49).

Season Two will feature more character and lizard reveals, more details about the V’s mythology, while along the way featuring even more action and more plot twists. Viewers can expect a roller coaster ride week to week.

New recurring stars for this season include Jane Badler as Diana, Oded Fehr as Eli Cohn, Jay Karnes as Chris Bolling and Bret Harrison as Dr. Sidney Miller.

Disney Cruise Line Named Top Cruise Line by Readers of Condé Nast Traveler Magazine

Disney Cruise Line Named Top Cruise Line by Readers of Condé Nast Traveler Magazine

Disney Cruise Line has been recognized as the No. 1 cruise experience at the Annual Readers’ Choice Awards for Condé Nast Traveler magazine in New York City.

Known as the leader in family cruising, Disney Cruise Line took the top honors in the Mega-Ship category, which is part of the magazine’s annual readers’ survey that recognizes the best in travel for resorts, destinations, airlines, cruise lines and car rental agencies.

Samantha Brown, renowned travel expert and television host on The Travel Channel, presented the award to Disney Cruise Line President Karl Holz at the awards gala in New York City.

“We are delighted to be recognized by such an esteemed travel community,” said Holz.  “This award is a testament to our continued dedication toward creating an unparalleled family cruise vacation. We appreciate the support of our guests who have sailed with us time and again and who helped make it possible for us to receive this highly regarded award.”

In addition, the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine recently named Disney Cruise Line the Top Family-Friendly Large-Ship Cruise Line in the 2010 World’s Best Awards poll.  Disney Cruise Line offers cruises for the young and young at heart, with a wide variety of events and activities designed to provide guests with a vacation experience that every member of the family feels was created especially for them.

New Ships, New Itineraries

These awards come as Disney enters the final stages of construction for one of two new ships, and begins to more formally expand itineraries to new destinations.  Known for establishing the family cruise market when the Disney Magic debuted in 1998, Disney Cruise Line continues to build upon this success with a focus on the legacy and heritage of The Walt Disney Company’s most known assets – master storytelling, world-class entertainment and legendary guest service.

The newest ship, the Disney Dream, is scheduled to sail its Maiden Voyage on January 26, 2011 from Port Canaveral, Florida.  Meanwhile sister ship Disney Fantasy is scheduled to set sail in 2012.
In 2011, the Disney Dream will sail three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas from homeport, Port Canaveral, Fla.  The Disney Magic will continue sailing seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises, before returning to the Mediterranean for another summer of itineraries in this region.  The Disney Wonder will begin 2011 by repositioning to the West Coast of the U.S., sailing seven-night Mexican Riviera cruises from the Port of Los Angeles, while spending the summer sailing first-ever Alaskan itineraries from Vancouver.

New Ship — Disney Dream
In addition to all of the features Disney Cruise Line is known for, the Disney Dream will have several new notable innovations for guests to enjoy.

  • AquaDuck, a first-of-its-kind water coaster, is an exhilarating, high-speed thrill ride that combines all the ups and downs of a roller coaster with all the twists and turns of a water slide.
  • Virtual Portholes offer a “window” to the world for inside staterooms, with a real-time view outside the ship where high-definition cameras feed live video to each stateroom.
  • Enchanted Art immerses guests in Disney storytelling and looks like other hanging art pieces around the ship, but is actually a framed LCD screen with technology that recognizes a guest is present.
  • New dining experiences including Remy, an exquisite top-deck restaurant, only for adults, with incredible ocean views and French-inspired, gourmet cuisine by two award-winning chefs.

Based in Celebration, Fla., Disney Cruise Line has received over 50 distinguished awards and recognitions from the travel industry, since first setting sail in 1998.  These awards have included all aspects of the operation from dining and entertainment, to youth activities and spa facilities.  Since 2007, the line has consistently placed in top spots with Condé Nast readers’ polls, however this is the first time for the company to place No. 1 overall.

To learn more about Disney Cruise Line or to book a vacation, guests can contact their travel agent, visit disneycruise.com or call Disney Cruise Line at 888-DCL-2500.  Travel agents can call Disney Cruise Line at 888-325-2500 or visit disneytravelagents.com.

3 More join the cast of The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made

3 More join the cast of The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made

Looks like Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones are in talks to join the “The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made.” The movie stars Jason Segel from “I love you man” which is one of my favorite movies! He also co-wrote the project and will be co-producer on the movie.

In the movie Jason tries to reunite all of the Muppet characters so they can help save their movie studio. If hired Amy would play Jason’s girlfriend, while Rashida would play an ABC Network Executive and Chris would play a villain out to get the Muppets.

The movie is set to release to theaters at the end of 2011.

Disney Interactive Studios cuts staff, sinks Pirates of the Caribbean game

Disney Interactive Studios cuts staff, sinks Pirates of the Caribbean game

This sad news comes to us from the Vancouver Sun.

Disney Interactive Studios has laid off staff and cancelled the much-anticipated game Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned at its Vancouver studio Propaganda Games.

A laid-off employee, who wished to be anonymous, said that close to 100 people lost their jobs Thursday. Calls and e-mails to Disney Interactive were not returned, but web magazine Kotaku quoted Angela Emery, Disney Interactive Studios vice-president of communications, as saying the studio’s big title for 2011 is off the books.

“Disney Interactive Studios confirms the cancellation of the Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned video game, which was scheduled to be released in 2011,” Emery said. “As a result of this decision, Disney Interactive Studios completed a restructuring of Propaganda Games, its Vancouver, B.C., internal studio, affecting one of the studio’s two development teams.”

“Restructuring” means lost jobs, and the laid-off employee said close to half the workforce is gone.

The company still plans a Dec. 7 release of Tron: Evolution, another Propaganda game tied to a Disney movie release, the shot-in-Vancouver Tron: Legacy.
