Best Thing I Love About Disney is Having a Bucket List

Best Thing I Love About Disney is Having a Bucket List
My family doesn’t embrace change so well. Nevertheless, we make it a point to try a couple of new things every trip to Walt Disney World, be it a new attraction or more often, a new restaurant. Even so, I’ve recently realized there are way too many things we haven’t tried. This unfortunate situation has evolved because we are creatures of habit and want to experience the many, many things we love at Walt Disney World every trip; we simply run out of time to try our “never done that’s” that we may feel meh about. This is short-sighted on our part because more often than not, when we try new attractions and food, they become must-dos on our next trip, which only exacerbates the situation. Add to this that Disney is continually reinventing attractions, developing new guest experiences, and coming up with delicious and inventive new places to eat. This leads me to what I love about Disney: I’ll always have a bucket list.

Luckily for me, my husband and I are planning a kids-free anniversary trip this winter. We’ve decided to do things a little differently and experience more new things than old favorites. It’s been lots of fun putting our bucket list together.

Here are some of the things we have so far. Expect it to grow over the next couple of months.

    Experiences

  • Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom
  • Characters in Flight at Downtown Disney
  • Yeehaw Bob Jackson’s Show at Port Orleans
  • Carriage Ride at Port Orleans
  • World of Gaming at Once Upon a Toy
  • Epcot’s Wine Walk
    Food

  • Joy of Tea in Epcot
  • Carrot Cake Cookie at Writer’s Stop
  • Tonga Toast at Captain Cook’s
  • Doh-Bar at Cookes of Dublin
  • Grey Goose Citron Slush in the Epcot France Pavilion
  • Yakitori House Counter Service
  • Raglan Road
  • Citricos
  • La Hacienda de San Angel
    Attractions

  • American Idol Experience
  • Finding Nemo – The Musical!
  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Liberty Square Riverboat
  • O Canada!
  • Impressions de France
  • Tower of Terror Queue – I’m terrified of freefall so although it’s a favorite of my husband, I think I’ll skip it.

What’s on your bucket list?

Disney Christmas Parade Taping in the Magic Kingdom.

Disney Christmas Parade Taping in the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks to all of you who’ve emailed and commented on Facebook about the Disney Christmas parade taping.  We now have several hundred of you on a mailing list and we’ll notify you personally as soon as we hear anymore details.  As of right now, I don’t have anything new to report, but I wanted to let everyone know that we haven’t forgotten about you. Again, here’s what we know:

The parade is on 12/3-5. The 5th, which is a Sunday, is a make up day. Last year, the Jonas Brothers performed on that day, so if you can’t get tickets for the other days, you may still see some of the parade taping on Sunday.

Tickets last year were distributed by an outside company.  In late October, Disney announced that tickets were available and you signed up. After a couple of weeks, confirmation emails were sent out and you picked your day(s), emailed Disney back, and showed up for the parade. The shifts were four hours long and you could pick two a day.  This year, Disney is apparently doing it themselves and we don’t have any information yet.

Again, we’ll have information out to all of you as soon as it’s available.  Send me an email at [email protected] if you want to be added to the list. I promise Chip and Co won’t use if for nefarious purposes!

Most Disney World guests come to ride roller coasters, have breakfast with a character or to search for a bit of their childhood.

Steven Barrett is searching for something else: tiny Mickey Mouse patterns hidden in everyday spots throughout the parks.

From the Magic Kingdom to Epcot to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there are three little circles — a head and the two mouse ears — hidden in carpet patterns, tiles, wallpaper and even in the gift shops.

“Whenever you are on Disney property, anywhere in the world, always look around you in the details because Mickey will be hiding there,” Barrett said.

Your Photos from Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Chip and Co. readers who submitted photos to me! They were all great! So, as promised, here they are, for the world to see!

This first photo comes from Keira in Porter, TX. It was Keira’s daughter’s first trip to WDW, and she had yet to see Cinderella’s castle. Once the castle came into view, her face lit up and she became very excited!

The next photo is from Gaylin in Vancouver, BC. She had just discussed with Minnie the possibility of being hired as a baker for Minnie’s Bake Shop. “She said to drop a resume off at the door,” Gaylin wrote in her e-mail.

Tammy from Illinois sent me several photos of her family enjoying MNSSHP. Dressed as pirates, her children met Captain Hook and watched the parade.

Samantha, who writes about Disney for About.com, submitted a photo of her daughter Madeline. Madeline is enjoying a snack at Cosmic Ray’s before the official start time for MNSSHP.

Lastly, I received a photo from DeAnna. She and her family are from Wiggins, Mississippi. DeAnna, her husband Mikey, and son Clark are all waiting for the bus to whisk them away to MNSSP.

Yummy Heirlooms from the United States Marketplace at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival

Yummy Heirlooms from the United States Marketplace at Epcot's Food and Wine Festival

Heirloom Tomatoes with Oregon Blue Cheese and Red Onions from United States Marketplace at Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival

Normally I skip the United States marketplace when traveling around the World Showcase in search of new items to try. However, every time I walked pasted the United States marketplace it was like the tomatoes were calling my name. Something about them… maybe that they were Heirloom Tomatoes just made me want to try them. This item was really nice. It was light, refreshing and perfect since it was too hot outside to eat soup (I was really wanting to hit the Montreal, Canada marketplace). The tomatoes each had a different flavor. Some were sweet, some a little more on the sour side and one with just a slight bite. The onions and blue cheese brought out the flavor of the tomatoes. I would definitely recommend trying this dish if you like tomatoes. It’s unique with the different flavors of Heirlooms.

TIP: Don’t eat all of the red onions (unless you really like onion) there was just a few too many for my taste and could have overpowered the other flavors.

A photo tour of Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, the Disney Dream

A photo tour of Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, the Disney Dream

This article and set of pictures comes to us from USA Today.

hat will Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Dream, look like on the inside?

USA TODAY’s Cruise Log was among a handful of cruise-focused sites to get a sneak peek of the vessel this week at the shipyard in Germany where it is under construction, and we’ve just posted a comprehensive photo tour of what we saw.

Click HERE to go directly to the tour, which includes a mix of USA TODAY and Disney photos (Disney did not allow USA TODAY or other news outlets to photograph during parts of our visit to the vessel).

The photo tour does not include shots of the ship’s much-awaited AquaDuck water coaster, which Disney has not allow to be photographed. The line says it will release photos of the AquaDuck to media outlets on Friday to coincide with a live broadcast from the ship by ABC’s Good Morning America, and we’ll post them here as soon as we have them.

Keep in mind when viewing the photos that the ship isn’t quite complete. Plenty of finishing work remains. But as you can see in the photo tour, some parts of the vessel are very close to being ready.
