Hasbro's Vintage Collection Figures
Hasbro's Vintage Collection Figures

Dan Curto of RebelScum.com posted pictures the latest wave of  the ‘Star Wars Vintage Line’ of action figures from Hasbro. The new releases feature characters from all six feature films. These are not your father’s Star Wars figures! Unlike the figures I grew up with of the late ’70’s and 80’s, each figure has a very detailed sculpt, meticulous paint job and many points of articulation. They look friggin’ cool and take me back to my childhood recreating those epic space battles!

I regret selling my entire collection of classic Kenner figures and vehicles in high-school. I haven’t collected Star Wars action figures since. However, after seeing these killer figures along with these retro backing cards I hope to have kids real soon to help give me an excuse to rebuild my collection and relive those memorable movie scenes with my son… or daughter!

Until next time… may the Force be with you!

Jake And The Never Land Pirates Leading the Way for Disney Junior Launch on February 14

Jake And The Never Land Pirates Leading the Way for Disney Junior Launch on February 14Disney Junior, a new multiplatform destination for kids age 2-7, one that reflects the emotional connection generations of consumers have to Disney storytelling and Disney characters, both classic and contemporary, will debut Monday, February 14 (8:30 a.m., ET/PT), anchored by the new animated series “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.” Five other new series also join the Disney Junior schedule: the short form titles “Mickey Mousekersize,” “Special Agent Oso: Three Healthy Steps” (supporting Disney’s Magic of Healthy Living initiative) and “A Poem Is…” (narrated by Jennifer Garner and Katie Holmes, among other familiar voices), and full length series “Babar and the Adventures of Badou” and “Tinga Tinga Tales.” Viewers’ current favorites, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Handy Manny,” “Special Agent Oso,” “Jungle Junction” and “Imagination Movers,” will also be seen on Disney Junior.

Disney Junior’s animated and live action programming will blend Disney’s unparalleled storytelling and beloved characters with learning components, including early math and language skills, as well as healthy eating and lifestyles, with an emphasis on social and emotional development.

The announcement was made today at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Marsh said: “Disney Junior will be an entry point into the world of Disney for young kids, creating a world – online and on-air – that captures the magic of Disney and its classic heartfelt storytelling and timeless characters beloved by generations.”

Disney Junior (currently Playhouse Disney) will be available as a programming block weekdays (4:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., ET/PT) and weekends (4:00–9:00 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel in more than 99 million U.S. homes. This year it will also debut on 25 Disney Junior channels (currently Playhouse Disney channels) and free-to-air broadcast partners around the world. In 2012 Disney Junior will debut as a 24-hour basic cable and satellite channel in the U.S.

DisneyJunior.com, an engaging, learning-focused Disney destination for kids age 2-7 and their parents, accompanies the television launch. The site will feature storybooks narrated by popular Disney characters, activities that encourage creativity, over 150 full-length episodes of “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Handy Manny,” “Special Agent Oso” and “Imagination Movers,” and a wide array of 90 games featuring characters from Disney Princesses, “Toy Story” and “Cars,” among other Disney favorites. The site will also debut a “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” supersite, featuring adventure-themed games including “Jake’s Treasure Hunt,” where users help Jake and crew find hidden treasure and escape from Captain Hook, and “Izzy’s Flying Adventure,” where players use Pixie dust to help Izzy and the gang fly off to stop Captain Hook, who has stolen their treasure. A dedicated section for parent and caregivers will highlight character-inspired recipes, crafts and party planning tips and ideas, along with how-to videos.

Beginning Monday, February 7, a full-length preview of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” will be available on Disney Channel on Demand (SVOD) and an 11-minute preview episode will be available on DisneyJunior.com, Disney Channel on Demand (Free VOD), Disney Channel mobile VOD providers and iTunes. As of the February 14 television premiere, the series will be simulcast on Disney Channel’s mobile providers Sprint TV, FloTV and MobiTV. New episodes will be available on DisneyJunior.com, Disney Channel on Demand, Disney Channel mobile VOD and simulcast providers, as well as iTunes and Xbox.

New Series and Short Form Programming Descriptions:

“Jake and the Never Land Pirates” is a new animated adventure series that introduces a crew of kid pirates – leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby – and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook and Smee, from Disney’s classic “Peter Pan.” The series, which emphasizes teamwork, features original pirate rock music performed by The Never Land Pirate Band. Many of the key creative professionals behind Disney’s #1 series for preschoolers, “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” are at the helm of “Jake and the Never Land Pirates.” Rob LaDuca executive-produces, with Mark Seidenberg serving as producer/story editor, Kelly Ward as voice director and Howy Parkins directing the series. It is a production of Disney Television Animation.

“Mickey Mousekersize,” a new short-form series part of Disney’s Magic of Healthy Living initiative is hosted by Mickey Mouse and focuses on the fun of exercising, encouraging children at home to get up and move along with Mickey and pals.

“Special Agent Oso: Three Healthy Steps,” a new short-form series part of Disney’s Magic of Healthy Living features Oso and friends as they watch a live-action kid demonstrate three healthy steps to exercising and eating right. Sean Astin and Brad Garrett star as Oso and Buffo.

“A Poem Is…” is a short-form animated series showcasing poems for children set to scenes and imagery from classic Disney films including “Dumbo,” “Bambi” and “Lady and the Tramp.” Narrated by Katie Holmes and Jennifer Garner, the series is designed to cultivate fond memories of Disney classics for parents and create new ones for kids by introducing young children to the beauty of a poem.

“Babar and the Adventures of Badou” is an updated version of the classic “Babar” series and introduces King Babar’s energetic eight-year-old grandson, Badou, and friends as they explore the world of Celesteville.

The Chip And Company Disney Week In Review For January 24th

The Chip And Company Disney Week In Review For January 24th

I would like to thank everyone of you who stop by to visit with us at Chip and Company. We are growing by leaps and bounds and we owe it to all of you who take time out of your day to come to see us and read what we have to offer. Everyone from Chip (yes, he is a real person and that is his name) all the way through our staff of incredible writers do this for you and only you, the Disney fans around the world. There has been a lot of news coming from our friends at Disney this week so we will begin with several of those items.

  • Anonymouse was first on the scene again with the latest rumors on the Fantasyland expansion when she/he wrote Disney Confidential: Fantasyland Expansion – Say Good-Bye To Snow White and Disney soon released the actual information which Chip chronicled in What We Know About The Disneyworld Fantasyland Expansion.
  • Disney also christened the newest ship in their fleet, the Disney Dream and we presented the details in Disney Cruise Line Welcomes Newest Ship During Christening Celebration Filled With ‘Dreams’, You can see some more pictures and a video of the christening HERE.
  • In a little break from the news Chip and Company would like to welcome our newest writer, Melissa to the fold. We are looking forward to a lot of great stuff flowing from her keyboard!! Welcome to the group Melissa!!
  • Chris has been the answer lady this week by sharing her knowledge with Chip and Company readers who e-mail us questions. Her responses to the questions can be read in Ask A Disney Question: Disneyland To Get Rid Of Guest Assistance Cards and Ask A Disney Question: Using Old Park Tickets. Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge Guru of the Mouse!!
  • Nancy, always on the lookout for new Disney experiences, gave us another of her great ideas when she told us – Want To Do Something New At Walt Disney World? Take A Tour!! Thanks Nancy I’ll probably give that a try in October!
  • O.K. I knew Anonymouse had been busy this week but she/he came up with three other fresh sets of rumors and told us about them in Disney Confidential – Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 and Miss Piggy News, Disney Confidential – The End Of Free Dining For 2011?,  and Disney Confidential – Disney’s Wizard Of Oz – Robert Is Out Johnny Is In! That’s an awful lot of juicy gossip for one week!!!
  • Lisa will save you a lot of headaches by reducing your kid’s meltdowns if you read and heed Rides To Miss With Little Mr And Miss. Nothing can disrupt a day at the theme parks like a child who has just been frightened out of their wits especially when it could have been avoided.
  • Chip has a planning series going and you can catch up by reading Disneyworld Planning 101 – How Soon Is Too Soon When Planning Your Vacation and the other articles in the series Do Magic Kingdom Last, Tips For Newbies, and Where To Eat.

  • If you are a snacker, you will appreciate Allies efforts in doing her research for Snacking Around The World. Thanks for sacrificing yourself in your efforts to keep us informed Allie!

D23: Disney’s Official Fan Club Presents Spring 2011 Issue of Disney 23 Magazine

D23: Disney’s Official Fan Club Presents Spring 2011 Issue of Disney 23 MagazineThe spring issue of Disney twenty-three magazine hits stands February 1, loaded with articles to delight both Disney fans and the general public.

The cover story gives readers a stem-to-stern tour of Disney Cruise Line’s awe-inspiring new ship, Disney Dream, a mighty 4,000 passenger vessel equipped with cutting-edge technology and activities and entertainment for ultimate family fun on the high seas. Featuring an exclusive guided exploration of this third and largest ship in the Disney fleet, the spring issue of Disney twenty-three lets readers learn exciting details from the Imagineers who helped transform their creative vision into one of the world’s most spectacular floating vacation spots.

Imagineer Joe Lanzisero steers readers through the ideas that percolated early on in the minds of his fellow Imagineers as the seemingly impossible details for the Disney Dream took shape and became reality. Readers will discover how the design team conquered new cruise challenges such as providing every stateroom on board with an ocean view (even the interior cabins!) as well as giving guests a way to safely steal a look 12 feet over the side of the ship itself. In talking about the design process, Lanzisero claims it was “…like watching a great musician or a great dancer create. It just happens before your eyes; you never think about what goes into it.”

Disney twenty-three’s spring issue also includes an exclusive interview with Sir Elton John discussing his participation in Disney’s new animated feature film, Gnomeo & Juliet, a picturesque and comedic retelling of Shakespeare’s traditional love story that now stars garden gnomes. Sir Elton talks about how the film inspired him to spoof his own music, adding that “every artist should have a sense of humor about himself. Nothing is sacred. I think poking fun at yourself is one of the greatest things you can do.” He also chats about recording a duet with Lady Gaga called ‘Hello Hello” and provides surprising insight about other songs included in the film.

The spring issue also celebrates the 25-year collaboration between composer Danny Elfman and filmmaker Tim Burton, presenting fans with a retrospective of the quirky fruits of their collaborations. Elfman reveals the creative process behind their sometimes funny and sometimes eccentric, but always unforgettable, creations.

There’s much more in the spring issue of Disney twenty-three, including:

  • GOOD TASTE IS TIMELESS: Highlights the history and tradition of the refreshing beer called Radeberger that is served at Epcot’s Germany Pavilion.
  • INSIDE AT DISNEY’S EXCLUSIVE TALK, SQUAWK & SQUEAK CLUB: Disney twenty-three chats it up with the personalities who give voice to Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto. Plus meet the all-star cast of Disney Channel’s new animated series, Jake and the Never Land Pirates.
  • THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME: Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline leads a rich trip back in time, packed with vivid photos and travel tales giving readers an incredible insight into Walt and Lilly’s voyages abroad.
  • SEAS THE DAY: Take a dive at Epcot: It’s a whole new world as Disney twenty-three Editor-in-Chief Carmen Capone goes scuba diving and comes face to face with a shark!
  • THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: Richard Kraft, agent to musical talents Danny Elfman, Alan Menken, Richard Sherman and others, packs his Encino, California, home with vintage Disney treasures… including, of course, a Dumbo attraction vehicle from Walt Disney World.
  • 23 QUESTIONS WITH… Imagineer, attraction designer and Disney Legend Bob Gurr.
  • A WALK WITH WALT 1939: WORLDS TO CONQUER: Even as Walt crafted his groundbreaking Fantasia, construction crews were breaking ground on his brand new studios in Burbank.
  • D SOCIETY: Alan Menken, Leonard Maltin and some very popular D23 Members (even a duo direct from Tokyo!) are all in the spotlight.
  • PHOTOfiles: Disney twenty-three’s ninth installment of rare pictures from the Disney Photo Library takes readers from a 1941 photo shoot with Walt to visits back home to Marceline and to the set of Mary Poppins.
  • GOOD MOUSEKEEPING: This issue of Disney twenty-three debuts a new column featuring classic Disney comics originally published in the 1930s and early 1940s in Good Housekeeping magazine. Once a staple in the pages of the magazine, these charming and nostalgic illustrations now come alive in the pages of Disney twenty-three where fans can appreciate them anew.

And there’s even more for Disney fans to explore! As with every issue of Disney twenty-three, D23 Members receive an added bonus. This issue comes with an exclusive D23 Expo 2011 luggage tag featuring the beloved chipmunks Chip and Dale that will be shipped to members exclusively. To become a D23 Member and learn more about membership and the spring issue of Disney twenty-three, visit www.disney.com/D23.

Disneyworld Planning 101 – Where to eat?

Disneyworld Planning 101 – Where to eat?

One of the hardest decisions when planning my Disneyworld Vacation is “Where to eat?” There are so many choices and so little time! Two of the biggest challenges I, and many other people have to face are:

  • Do I try something new
  • Do I visit the places I know and love

On one hand you know what you like. Maybe you visit the same restaurant every time you go. There might be certain dishes you love and eat every visit. Maybe there is something you look forward to every trip.

Now on the other hand you might be missing out on something that could possibly be an absolute favorite but you will never since you goto the same places every time. What if a new place is no good? How will you know?

What to do, what to do???

Well with our next vacation still in the planning stages I am left with this age old dilemma. To make matters even more difficult we have our friends who have never been to Walt Disney World coming with us. So I have 4 adults, 4 kids, and a lot of magic to plan.

So I am sure you are wondering what I did. Being the even Steven person I am, I split things down the middle. I picked 3 places I have never been, which is hard as that list is really short and then I added the places that we really love. The rest I filled in with Character Dining for the kiddies.

Another factor to consider is. Are you eating on the Disney Dining Plan or paying out of pocket? If you are going with a meal plan which one did you choose?

While we love the Deluxe Dining Plan we opted for the Plus Dining this go around and will pay for a few meals out of pocket. This option is great cause you get the best of both worlds. If we weren’t trying to save money the Deluxe is the way to go. I am a Disney Foodie and just love all the restaurants at WDW.

If you are light eaters paying for all your meals out of pocket is a great choice but can get pricey so do your homework. Visit sites like WDW Info and check the menus and prices to get an estimate of what you will pay out of pocket before you go.

I know I am giving you a bunch of information to digest..get it digest.. but food choices is no laughing matter.

Oh and case you were wondering some of my favorite places to eat at Walt Disney World check out this article 6 Places you must eat at Walt Disney World.

I hope this article helps you better plan for your vacation if you have any planning tips let me know in the comment section below.

Disneyworld Planning 101 – Where to eat?

Oh, How I Love a Good Cast Member!

Oh, How I Love a Good Cast Member!

In a fairly recent WDW Radio Podcast, I remember Lou Mongello and his co-host talking about cast members and how to acknowledge a really good Cast Member. I had never previously thought about this – I always appreciated interactions with Cast Members, but never thought to show my appreciation with anything other than a smile.

This trip, I took mental notes of some of the better Cast Members and decided to follow up with a trip to Guest Relations. We stopped in to trade pins and while we were there, I asked for their comment cards. I wrote up 3 great cast members.

  • 1st – Our first day in the parks, while waiting to ride swap at Space Mountain, my son and I were playing in the arcade located at the exit of Space Mountain. He climbed onto a tractor that cost $.50 for a ride. I put my quarters in, but the ride didn’t work! We went to tell a Cast Member, who came over to fix the ride. Apparently, lots of people had put pennies and other change into the machine, causing it to stop working. Most likely a child had put in a flat souvenir penny as well, which the cast member gave to us, as well as returning our quarters before starting the ride for my son.
  • 2nd – Later at Magic Kingdom, we boarded the Walt Disney World Railroad at the Frontierland Train Station when a Cast Member came up to congratulate us on our race (we were wearing our half marathon medal lanyards to pin trade) and to make conversation about some pins I was wearing. Though this cast member didn’t particularly help in any way, his friendliness was truly appreciated and to me, he was an exemplary Cast Member.
  • 3rd – Last but definitely not least, at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, a train ride away from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we found our new child-friendly haven. A new discovery to us, this Conservation Station had a petting zoo, hundreds of hidden mickeys (though I only found 1!), character meets, and, while we were there, an up close visit with a baby alligator. I somehow randomly ended up in conversation with a very friendly and informative cast member who told me all about the alligators and told me information about other reptiles as well. She helped me keep an eye on my son as he (and my husband) ran around, and after talking about pins and telling her I’m always on the lookout for another great Mickey Mouse for my son, she found extra pins lying around and gave one to my son.

That’s true magic. And, great Cast Members.

Jenn resides with her husband, 1 year old son, and 2 bratty dogs in a suburb of Washington, D.C.
