Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years.

With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail.   “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.”  Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny.

Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, “Winnie the Pooh” hits theaters July 15, 2011.

What Makes Walt Disney World YOUR Place Of Choice?

What Makes Walt Disney World YOUR Place Of Choice?

A lot of people, including yours truly, have made Walt Disney World (WDW) their vacation destination of choice. I’ll give you our reasons and ask you to think about yours. There are just so many reasons that make it ideal for almost everyone it is no wonder that it is the number one vacation destination on earth!!

  • The Magic – If you don’t believe in magic, one visit to WDW will probably change your mind. The detail, the variety, the beauty, and particularly those wonderful Cast Members all combine to make you believe that  whatever you are experiencing, no matter how far fetched, is reality.
  • You Simply Can’t Do Everything (in one or two or more visits) – There is just so much there you could never try everything. We have been many, many times and have not even approached trying all we want to try. Frustrating, no, it’s just a challenge to do at least one or two new things each visit and get as close as you can.
  • The Parks – This one pretty much speaks for itself but I have to say that they are all different and each possesses it’s own personality and its own style of Magic. From the shows and thrill rides at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, to the gorgeous animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, to the fanciful surroundings of the Magic Kingdom, all the way to the excitement and culture of Epcot, each day is a new challenge and a new adventure.
  • The Resorts – Just like the parks, they all have their own personalities. This can cause an issue, at least with us, because every resort we stay in becomes our favorite. We have lots of favorites. The service, the landscaping, the restaurants, the imaginative buildings, and once again those amazing Cast Members all combine to make each resort feel like home.
  • Your Fellow Visitors – WDW is the easiest place in the world to strike up a casual conversation with a complete stranger. For one thing, you have something in common with virtually everyone there – an excitement inside of you about being at Walt Disney World. When you are standing in line start chatting with someone you might make a friend. One thing I always try to do and you could too, if you are an experienced traveler to WDW and you see someone who looks puzzled, lost, or frustrated take a few moments to see if you can help them find what they are looking for or answer a question for them. WDW is an enormous place and if it’s your first visit it can be extremely daunting.

Those are just some of my reasons. I could go on forever but I’ll spare you that. Feel free to share your reasons in the comments section, I’d be delighted to read them. Maybe I’ll find something I’ve been missing. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

What Makes Walt Disney World YOUR Place Of Choice?

Disney Transportation vs. Your Own Car – Which is Better?

Disney Transportation vs. Your Own Car – Which is Better?

This is obviously a topic that is most applicable to those who visit Walt Disney World. For unless you’re an Olympic Athlete with loads of time on your hands, you’re not likely to walk anywhere in The Happiest Place on Earth – Florida Edition! With a property bigger than the island of Manhattan, you’ve really only got two choices open to you: Take a Disney Bus or your own car to and from the Parks and Resorts.

But which is better? Let’s look at the pros and cons of both:

Disney Transportation

Disney Transportation vs. Your Own Car – Which is Better?

Most Disney Buses leave every 20 minutes. But as most Guests know, that isn’t always the case. But usually they come with a reasonable amount of regularity and provide a fairly comfortable ride. Cons: You have to walk from your room to the Resort Bus Stops and then from the Park Bus Stop to the Main Gates. If you are staying at a Value Resort, the Bus Stops at the Parks will be farthest from the Main Gates, making for a longer walk in. It also makes for a long race back out after the Park closes as hundreds of tired Guests sprint to get the coveted sitting positions on the Buses! In many cases, you may have to stand for the entire ride. Also, if someone with a mobility issue is present, they will move to the front of the line. Everyone must wait to board until they are secure inside the Bus. If there is more than one person with mobility issues present, the wait can stretch out considerably. Pros: You can simply sit back and relax and let the Driver do the work. Sometimes, if you get an entertaining Driver, you can enjoy some residual Disney Magic on the way back to your Resort. A leisurely Bus Ride is a great way to build anticipation for your day in the Parks. And the ride back gives you a chance to wind down or for your irritable toddlers to fall asleep! And it’s air-conditioned.

Your Own Car

Disney Transportation vs. Your Own Car – Which is Better?

OK, you probably don’t drive around WDW in a pimped-out Golf Cart! It’s more likely you have a standard commuter waiting for you in the Parking Lot. With it, you can leave whenever you’re ready and drive directly to the Park of your choice. Cons: I usually visit WDW in February, and when I go to my car to get something, I’ve noticed that the temperature inside my car is usually two degrees cooler than the face of the Sun! This can be a major problem if you have leather seats. Ouch! And if you’re like me, my car becomes a catch-all for stuff I’ve bought throughout my trip, so it could get a little crowded in there near the end of your stay. You still have to walk to your car from your room, and the drive distance is the same by Bus or by Car. Upon arriving at a Park, you then have to find a spot to park. If you arrive later in the morning, you will likely have a 5-minute walk to the Tram. Then another 5-10 minute wait as the Tram loads and an additional 5-minute Tram ride to the Main Gate area. And then a few minutes walk to the Entrance. At the end of the day, when most Park Guests are fighting over Bus space, you will be fighting for Tram space. And then you will be in a long line up of exiting cars. I’m not totally convinced that all of this adds up to a shorter commute over a Disney Bus. Pros: If you’re planning on combining a trip to more than one Park in a day, your Car is a good option. Most Buses only do Resort to Park and back again runs, and don’t go from Park to Park. And if you need to do some off-property shopping (for food and such) having your car just makes sense. You don’t have to put up with other people’s over-tired children on a crowded Bus nor the ‘tired Guest’ odor that permeates every late-night Bus ride.

I’ve tried not to be partial or leading with this article, but I think it’s obvious which option I would prefer. When I visit WDW, my car gets parked when I arrive, and doesn’t move again until I leave. But some of my worst Bus rides have sorely tested my patience and made me question that decision!

Changes to 2011 Food and Wine Half Marathon Weekend

Changes to 2011 Food and Wine Half Marathon Weekend

A note from Ken Potrock, Senior Vice-President, Disney Sports Enterprises:

Our Disney team has been busy over the past few months with the WALT DISNEY WORLD Marathon Weekend presented by CIGNA and this month’s Disney Princess Half Marathon presented by Lady Foot Locker. We’re off to a great start in 2011, and expect to see continued success with the Disneyland Half Marathon in September and then the return of the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend at WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort September 30-October 1.

As a listening company, we constantly seek input from our guests so that we can make the guest experience even better. In the spirit of that commitment, the Disney team has been working on changes to improve your experience at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon.

First, you may be pleased to note that the post-race party will be expanded to include a variety of Epcot attractions and many more food and beverage locations. In addition, the half marathon finish line will be moved to just outside the main entrance to Epcot. Our intent is to provide more space for the finish itself, a larger spectator viewing area, and a greatly expanded baggage claim operation. Different from the WALT DISNEY WORLD Marathon and Disney Princess Half Marathon events, the Wine & Dine Half Marathon finish area will be in a parking area adjacent to the Epcot main entrance, allowing for easy access to the post-race party inside the park.

I wanted to personally share these updates to assure you that we value your feedback and are committed to making every Disney race a world-class experience for you and your families. We expect to have exciting entertainment enhancements to share among other surprises, both during the race and during the post-race party, so stay tuned for more news on the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon and all Disney events in the coming months. We look forward to seeing you at the finish line.

Yours in running,

Ken Potrock
