Walt Disney Animation’s Prep & Landing Cure Christmas Chaos With Marvel’s The Avengers

Walt Disney Animation's Prep & Landing Cure Christmas Chaos With Marvel's The Avengers

This November, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Emmy Award-winning Prep & Landing enters the world of the Avengers, Marvel’s most popular super heroes, in an all-new comic book adventure. Certainly Santa doesn’t just visit the ordinary citizens of the world – even super heroes should have a shot at making it onto the “nice” list. Join Wayne and Lanny, members of an elite unit of elves who prepare homes for Santa’s arrival on Christmas Eve, in their not-so-ordinary task of preparing the Avengers Headquarters for the “Big Guy’s” arrival. The significance of readying the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for a visit from Santa is lost on his stealthiest elves – for them, it’s just another night on the greatest job ever.

“I love Prep and Landing. I love the whole concept of Santa having these high-tech, stealth, elf squadrons that help him get each house prepared for Christmas,” commented John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. “It’s already so much fun combining this super secret spy world mixed in with the North Pole, and then to add the Avengers into the mix – spies, Christmas and comics – three of my favorite things!”

This all new Prep & Landing story, from writer Kevin Deters & artist Joe Mateo will be available exclusively in the following November on-sale comics:

  • Avengers #19
  • Super-Heroes #20
  • Spider-Man #20

“We’re all big fans of Prep & Landing, so bringing them into the Marvel Universe was a no-brainer,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “I just hope that Lanny and Wayne have an easier time at my house this year than they do at the Avengers’ Mansion!”

And don’t miss Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice, a full-length special premiering on ABC this Christmas! Wayne and Lanny find themselves up to their pointy ears in trouble, as they race to recover classified North Pole technology… which has fallen into the hands of a computer-hacking Naughty Kid! Now they must turn to a Coal Elf named Noel in order to prevent Christmas from falling into chaos. You can bring home the original Prep & Landing when it releases on DVD this November 22.

This winter, the team of Prep & Landing enter the world of the Avengers—’Nuff said!

Marvel Relaunches ‘Ultimate’ Comic Line With Great Success

Marvel Relaunches 'Ultimate' Comic Line With Great SuccessMarvel Relaunches 'Ultimate' Comic Line With Great Success
Marvel Comics recently relaunched their Ultimate line, making it easier for new readers to jump in with their favorite heroes. The beginning stems from the recent ‘Death of Spider-Man’ arc that traveled quickly across the news over the past few months. Fans can now get to know their new Spider-Mar, Miles Morales, a hero for the new generation. I’ve been a big fan of the Ultimates line since it started, and I can say that new fans and old fans alike can jump into these new series without feeling overwhelmed by things like continuity. They have really revitalized the Ultimates line, and I highly recommend them. This has given Marvel a great sales boost and is something that should you should definitely check out. Hit the jump for Marvel’s press release.

Epcot Food & Wine Festival Food Review - France

This picture and review comes to us from Chip and Co fan Nick who was able to dine around the World Showcase and take in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the 16th Annual Food & Wine Festival.

Thanks Nick!

Here is his review of the France Booth:

I loved the Escargots Persillade en Brioche. All I could taste was the bread, but it was terrific. The Creme Brulee au Chocolat au Lait was not as flavorful as I’d hoped.

Boom! Comic Studio Ends ‘Ducktales’ and ‘Darkwing Duck’ Comics With a Crossover

Boom! Comic Studio Ends 'Ducktales' and 'Darkwing Duck' Comics With a Crossover

One of the biggest highlights four me over the past year or so has been Boom! Studios’ Disney Afternoon Comic series’. The three series they have been producing include ‘Darkwing Duck’, ‘Ducktales’, and ‘Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers’, all of which have been continuations of the original cartoon series. But now that Disney and Marvel have merged together, Disney has decided to cut ties with Boom! Studios, and for now, puts the future of the Disney Afternoon Series in uncertainty. But Boom! didn’t want to end these series without, well a boom, frankly. So to end both the Ducktales and Darkwing Duck titles, they’re ending both with a four part crossover!

Confirmed: Patty Jenkins Will Direct ‘Thor 2’

Briefly: A few weeks ago, I ran a story that director Patty Jenkins was in talks with Marvel Studios to direct their upcoming sequel ‘Thor 2’. Well, it looks like that rumor turned out to be true. Patty Jenkins has officially signed on to the sequel, which will see the return of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the God of Thunder, as well as Tom Hiddleston as his brother Loki. This is great news for fans, and I can’t wait to see what she does with the film. ‘Thor 2’ is scheduled to be released November 15, 2013.

With the Help of Ocean Spray, Gary Walks Guests Through the Cranberry Bog at Epcot

With the Help of Ocean Spray, Gary Walks Guests Through the Cranberry Bog at Epcot

A new feature of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is letting guests get “bogged” down during a visit to the park. (And that’s a good thing!). Our friends at Ocean Spray have brought a cranberry bog display to the event as part of their ongoing commitment to educate consumers about the taste, health and heritage of the cranberry. And it’s quite fitting as we enter the fall season when cranberries are a big part of many family holiday dinners.

Today, our “Cranberry Correspondent” Gary takes a closer look at the bog, chats with Ocean Spray growers and learns how the popular berry is grown and harvested. Watch it all the way through and see how he becomes “immersed,” literally, in this story. The piece also marks the return of “Concerned Bystander” Rob, who always seems to be the “Jiminy Cricket” to Gary’s “Pinocchio” as he explores the parks.

Guests will receive a fifth night free* at Aulani when they purchase a consecutive four-night stay. Guests may book this grand opening offer beginning today (October 14, 2011) and running through December 16, 2011, by visiting www.aulani.com or by calling toll-free (866) 411-3883 and mentioning offer code Y5J.

The limited time Aulani special offer is available for stays most nights from November 27 to December 16, 2011; January 4 to January 12, 2012; and January 16 to January 25, 2012.

Set on a beautiful lagoon along the coast of Oahu, Aulani combines the beauty and spirit of the islands with the magic of Disney storytelling and guest service, creating an unforgettable Hawaiian family vacation experience.

With a fifth night free, Aulani guests will enjoy more moments of relaxation and exhilaration at the world-class resort. The adventures abound at Aulani, from splashing in the pools, slides and streams of Waikolohe Valley to basking in the beachfront bliss of a sunset over the Pacific ocean.

Each day of their stay, Aulani guests are able to customize their experiences – unwinding at Laniwai, a Disney Spa, and relaxing in its hydrotherapy garden, snorkeling at Rainbow Reef or discovering the island on a specially planned excursion with an Adventure Guide. Among the unique experiences at Aulani are the Makai Preserve stingray adventure, the Painted Sky teen lounge and spa, and the Menehune Bridge, a water adventure full of fun and surprises.

Aulani occupies 21 acres of oceanfront property in Ko Olina, adjacent to a nine-acre, crystal-blue lagoon and white-sand beach. Ko Olina is 17 miles from Honolulu International Airport and less than an hour from Waikiki Beach. When all phases are complete, Aulani will include 359 traditional hotel rooms and 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas in two towers, each featuring rooms that offer thrilling views of the ocean, mountains and the magnificent, lush surroundings.

Aulani  features two signature restaurants – the full-service ‘AMA’AMA and the buffet-style Makahiki – offering foods unique to Hawaii.

Something for everyone

Family-friendly resort amenities include the 18,000-square-foot Laniwai, a Disney Spa, with 15 treatment rooms and a fitness center. Many spa treatments draw upon Hawaiian healing traditions.

Young guests have their very own kids’ club, Aunty’s Beach House. Here, children explore Hawaiian culture through supervised entertainment, including interactive touch tables, wildlife and nature programs, arts and crafts, Disney movies and traditional Hawaiian games.

Children of all ages will delight in Waikolohe Valley, Aulani’s seven-acre water play area. Here guests encounter the Waikolohe Stream – the resort’s mysterious (yet fun) tube-floating watercourse – a cloaking mist and several hundred feet of additional surprises.

For those who love waterslides, Tubestone Curl, the resort’s tube slide, and Volcanic Vertical, Aulani’s tunnel slide, provide thrills galore. Guests also interact with native Hawaiian fish, including angelfish, butterfly fish and tangs, in the 3,800-square-foot Rainbow Reef snorkel lagoon, the only one of its kind on Oahu.

The Makai Preserve conservation pool offers an interactive experience that allows guests to stroke the velvety backs of gentle stingrays (available by reservation only). A portion of the proceeds from this activity support research and conservation efforts in Hawaii through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. Water activities at Aulani also include a quiet adult pool, wading pool and, for the ultimate relaxation, sunset-facing whirlpool spas.

Looking beyond its own magical grounds, Aulani offers a menu of Oahu excursions with the aid of local experts. These include exploring tropical forests, hiking local mountains, sailing aboard catamarans, swimming with dolphins, cooking with local chefs, following a ghost tour and more. The discovery excursions are specially designed for Aulani guests by Adventures by Disney and are hosted by a knowledgeable, friendly Adventure Guide.

Disney Food Confession: Cannolo Al Cioccolato

Disney Food Confession: Cannolo Al Cioccolato

Where To Find It:  At the Italy Kiosk during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

What is it? The Cannolo Al Cioccolato is a really great tasting chocolate covered cannoli with sweet ricotta cheese, chocolate, and candied fruit.  Truth be told, I didn’t taste the candied fruit very much, if at all.

Why You Want It: This was, hands down, my favorite dessert, and my daughter Sophie and I really enjoyed sharing this, although the size of it is kind of small, so I would get one for each person next time.  At $3.50 (and snack credit eligible), this is a good snack to try out!
