House from Disney’s Up movie being built to promote city’s Towne Center.

House from Disney's Up movie being built to promote city’s Towne Center.

This article comes to us from the Salt Lake Tribune.

Utah’s Disney/Pixar fans won’t have to drive all the way to California this summer to get a piece of Disney magic. They’ll just have to drive to Herriman.

Carl, Russell and the house from Disney/Pixar’s “Up” are coming to the Herriman Towne Center development in the 2011 Parade of Homes. Bangerter Homes is building a replica of the cartoon creation, complete with balloons.

“I was just watching the movie, and thought, ‘We build houses kind of like that, ’” said Blair Bangerter, one of three brothers in the custom-home building company.

The brothers sought the blessing of Disney Entertainment Group before proceeding, and received the company’s approval to do some Walt Disney-style “imagineering” of their own.

The outside of the house is painted in vibrant sherbet shades, and comes complete with Carl and Ellie’s hand-printed mailbox and custom-made garden hose reel. Builders had to make some small modifications, Bangerter explained, as the laws of physics don’t apply to cartoon buildings. The chimney and fireplace have been tweaked in the real version so they actually match up, and the house is a narrow rectangle, rather than a square. With an upper story and a finished basement, it comes in at a roomy 2,800 square feet. Asking price is expected to be $399,000.

A Guide to Disney World Theme Park Restaurants

A Guide to Disney World Theme Park Restaurants

Eating around the world is a much easier task if “the world” is Walt Disney World Resort, home to more than 100 theme park and resort table-service restaurants. (Not to be confused with Drinking Around the World Showcase)

At Disney World there are numerous sit-down theme park restaurants, guests can find a wide range of fare and flair, from sushi at Tokyo Dining at Epcot to meatloaf at the 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Fantasy Fare at Magic Kingdom

  • Gigantic ice cream sundaes and all-American foods such as deli-style sandwiches and burgers make up the menu of The Plaza Restaurant on Main Street.
  • At The Crystal Palace, guests can enjoy a buffet with hot and cold fare and a children’s buffet during all-day character dining with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and friends. And Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland serves up an array of fresh tossed salads, soups, burgers and rotisserie chicken with trimmings.
  • Pecos Bill Cafe in Frontierland offers burgers, taco salad and wrap sandwiches. A generous fixin’s bar is a guest favorite.

An International Experience at Epcot World Showcase in Epcot truly offers “dining around the world.”

  • United Kingdom is home to the Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room, an authentic British pub featuring fish and chips, prime rib, meat pies and British beer and ales.
  • France features Les Chefs de France restaurant, operated by famous French chefs Paul Bocuse and Roger Vergé. Specialties include beef burgundy and fresh salmon.
  • Marrakesh in Morocco uses exotic spices to make food flavorful, not hot. Belly dancers and Moroccan music add to the ambiance of this restaurant, where couscous and bastilla (fried ouarka pastry) are favorites. Tangierine Cafe serves salads and sandwiches with Moroccan flair.
  • If Japanese fare is preferred, visit Tokyo Dining or Teppan Edo, where chefs prepare beef, seafood and chicken entrees at the table.
  • Classic Italian decor makes a perfect setting at Tutto Italia Ristorante in which to enjoy fresh pasta dishes. Or try the authentic pizzas at Via Napoli, the new Italian restaurant that joins Tutto Italia at the Italy pavilion.

  • Dine on the edge of a slow-flowing river during sunset at San Angel Inn Restaurante in Mexico. Along World Showcase Lagoon, La Hacienda offers casual dining and a front-row seat for “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” each evening. Adjacent is La Cantina la San Angel for quick-service tacos, margaritas and more.
  • A medieval castle in Norway is home to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, traditional Norwegian cuisine featuring grilled salmon, lamb stew, braised pork and a koltbord with meats and cheeses, seafood and salads. Princess Storybook Dining features Belle, Jasmine, Snow White, Aurora, Pocahontas, Mulan, Ariel, Alice and Mary Poppins for a family-style dining experience.
  • The Le Cellier restaurant in Canada offers a full menu of Canadian foods, including excellent cuts of beef and King salmon. Just remember it is 2 credits now!
  • Future World, also in Epcot, offers two restaurants for American fare. Garden Grill in The Land pavilion takes visitors on a revolving journey through scenes of Living with the Land while they enjoy family-style character dining at dinner. Sunshine Seasons offers fast-casual cuisine from grills and rotisseries to an Asian station.
  • Visitors to Coral Reef Restaurant at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion sight sharks and other sea creatures swimming in a giant aquarium. Specialties of the restaurant include tandoori-spiced mahi mahi at lunch and whole roasted red snapper with fennel and fresh vegetables at dinner.

The Star Treatment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Celebrities of the 1930s made the original Brown Derby their second home, a place to see and be seen. That chic atmosphere is re-created at The Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard. Guests bask in the elegant atmosphere as they dine on the most-noted entree first created at the original Brown Derby, the Cobb salad, and the famous grapefruit cake for dessert.
  • At Hollywood & Vine, guests choose from a sumptuous buffet of hot and cold entrees, an all-you-can-eat extravaganza with “Playhouse Disney” pals dropping by to greet diners.
  • The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant specializes in milkshakes, stacked sandwiches, burgers and atmosphere — visitors sit in vintage ’50s convertibles watching campy sci-fi movie clips on a drive-in movie screen.
  • Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano features a California-influenced Italian setting. Favorites include brick-oven baked pizza, pastas, chicken and seafood.
  • Diners are sit-com kids with “mom” as waitress in a yesteryear’s kitchen at the 50’s Prime Time Cafe. Meatloaf, chicken pot pie and pot roast are the specialties. And “mom” will make sure all veggies are eaten!

Quick Service, Delicious Food at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Rainforest Cafe near the park’s entrance offers sandwiches, salads and other specialties in a rainforest setting with gushing waterfalls, thunder, lightning, tropical birds and chattering gorillas.
  • Discovery Island has two restaurants — Flame Tree Barbecue, featuring beef, pork and turkey, and Pizzafari, with pizzas, muffaleta sandwiches and salads. In DinoLand U.S.A., Restaurantosaurus serves burgers, hot dogs, chicken and salad.
  • In Africa, Tusker House Restaurant is a buffet with flavors of Africa with interesting sauces and chutneys to accompany food at multiple stations. Donald’s Safari Breakfast is the place to start the day with Disney characters.
  • And in Asia, Yak & Yeti Restaurant, an “Asian fusion” eatery with table service dining, a full-service bar and outdoor quick-service options.\

The Options Are Endless!

Take a Cooling Plunge at Two of America’s Most Popular Water Parks

Take a Cooling Plunge at Two of America’s Most Popular Water Parks

It’s summer in Florida. Daytime temperatures are regularly pushing into the 90s. What’s a vacationer to do to cool off?

At Walt Disney World Resort, guests can choose between a mountain ski retreat and a tropical getaway to take the proverbial plunge into water fun at two of the most popular water parks in North America:

  • Like a surfside playground left behind by a “great storm” for modern-day Swiss Family Robinsons, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon features breaking waves, saltwater snorkeling pool, water coaster thrill ride attraction with gushing water surges; and
  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach offers all the spine-chilling thrills of a northern ski resort, whether it’s bobsledding down the “snowy” slopes of Mt. Gushmore or plunging straight down Summit Plummet at up to 55 mph.

During the spring, summer and fall vacation periods, both parks are open daily, offering a cool break from theme park fun. Admission tickets can be purchased at each park or folded into Disney’s Magic Your Way ticket with the Water Park Fun & More add-on option.

Located near Downtown Disney West Side, the 61-acre Typhoon Lagoon includes several major features, including Crush ‘n’ Gusher, the first-ever water coaster thrill ride attraction in Central Florida; a man-made watershed mountain with eight twisting-and-turning water slides and roaring streams; a two-and-one-half-acre wave-making lagoon with surfing-size waves, and a 362,000-gallon saltwater pool, Shark Reef, where snorkelers swim fin-to-fin with exotic marine life including butterfly fish, French angels, tangs, groupers and even nurse sharks.

The park also features a water playground for children, sunny beaches and lazy streams surrounding a 95-foot mountain, a shop that provides necessary underwater equipment for Shark Reef (including wet suits, masks and snorkels), changing areas, lockers, showers, a picnic area and two restaurants which serve up everything from specialty sandwiches and salads to cookies and ice cream in waffle cones.

Meantime, while the 66-acre Blizzard Beach has all the look of a northern ski resort, it is in fact strictly tropical — and the ice is limited to the soft drinks. The most eye-catching attractions can be found on the slopes of Mt. Gushmore, the 90-foot snow-capped mountain that is home to Downhill Double Dipper, the only side-by-side racing water slides that stand 50 feet high and 200 feet long. Guests will travel up to 25 mph, twisting and turning before shooting out through a curtain of water.

Mt. Gushmore also features slalom courses, toboggan and water sled runs and the awesome, 120-foot-high Summit Plummet — one of the nation’s tallest, fastest free-fall speed slides, visible from almost anywhere in the park. From Summit Plummet’s “ski jump” tower, it’s a breathtaking high-speed 55 mph plunge straight down to a splash landing at the base of the mountain.

Next to Summit Plummet is the tall but less steep Slush Gusher, a speed slide that drops guests through a snow-banked mountain gully. Mt. Gushmore’s other attractions include Teamboat Springs, the world’s longest family white-water raft ride takes six-passenger rafts down a twisting 1,200-foot series of rushing water falls; Toboggan Racer, an 8-lane water slide that sends guests racing over exhilarating dips as they descend the “snowy” slope, and more.

The sandy beach below Mt. Gushmore offers a large wave pool, a lazy river, two snack bars, a polar pub lodge, and a pre-teen and children’s play area.

The Village at the Blizzard Beach entrance houses guest services such as a tube pick-up area, towel rentals, lockers, first aid, merchandise and a restaurant.

Available at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon for day-long rental, Beachcomber Shacks and Polar Patios are premium spaces that put a roof or a large umbrella over guests’ heads, provide upscale Adirondack seating for relaxation, put beverages to quench a whole days’ thirsts at guests’ fingertips, and give them a service attendant who does the leg work if they want to purchase food from the a la carte menu.

For more information about Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water parks, guests may call 407/824-4321 or visit disneyworld.com.

Disney World Dining Options Ever-Changing at Walt Disney World Resort

Disney World Dining Options Ever-Changing at Walt Disney World Resort

With great eats everywhere – from luxe restaurants to fast- casual food in the theme parks, dining is a significant part of the Walt Disney World vacation experience.

With hundreds of places for a meal, guests don’t have to travel the globe to taste the world. From South African wines to Florida-sourced seafood, Walt Disney World restaurants offer a dazzling array of upscale dining. And you’ll also find micro-brews, house-made gelatis and other fast-casual tastes with big flavors.

Online dining reservations make it easy to book most Walt Disney World table-service restaurants up to 180 days in advance at www.disneyworld.com. Reservations can be made for up to 10 guests (more than 10 requires a call to Disney Dining Reservations). For booking by phone, call 407/WDW-DINE.

And each fall, more than 1 million fans head to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, a premier culinary event that has helped raise the bar on fine dining at Disney. Featuring great celebrity chefs and wine connoisseurs in the spectacular setting of World Showcase, the festival features tastes of wine, beer and food from around the world.

Healthful Initiatives

Even though vacation may be a time for indulgence, Walt Disney World chefs provide healthful options, serving more than 20,000 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables annually. (Every Walt Disney World table-service and quick-service restaurant offers at least one vegetarian option.) For lifestyle dining options, or for requests from guests with food allergies or intolerances, there are a wide range of choices, from kosher to gluten and sugar free. In 2009, Disney tracked nearly a quarter of a million requests for special dietary needs and allergies.

“We have a real commitment to innovative, healthy menus,” said Mahmud Dhanani, vice president of Food & Beverage Concept Development. A new culinary dietary specialist recently joined the team to focus on vitality lifestyle ideas.

Revised menus require that no more than 35 percent of calories can come from fat – saturated fat and sugar must account for no more than 10 percent of the meal’s calories. And chefs keep tinkering with recipes, such as smoothies, now made with non-fat yogurt and fresh fruit purees (now 120 calories and the former recipe was 420 calories).Kids’ menus at Disney are evolving, and changes make healthier choices the standard instead of the “alternate.” Grapes, apples, carrot sticks and unsweetened applesauce in place of french fries and 1 percent milk, or bottled water instead of soda, for instance. Guests must request fries and sodas (at no additional cost). Surveys show that 60 percent of all quick-service kids’ snacks served healthy option choices.

What’s New

La Hacienda de San Angel and Cantina de San Angel. At the Mexico pavilion at Epcot World Showcase, two all-new eateries along World Showcase Lagoon recently opened. La Cantina offers quick-service and features tacos, nachos and empanadas, and a variety of frozen margaritas. La Hacienda is a table-service restaurant with contemporary Mexican fare such as mixed seafood grill, roasted pork loin and flank steak. La Hacienda has its own “tequila ambassador” and features tequila flights and a whole new line of margaritas, including a coffee margarita. La Cantina, with indoor and outdoor seating, is open daily for lunch and dinner; 250-seat La Hacienda opens daily at 4 p.m.

Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. The lively, 300-seat restaurant that is operated by the Patina Group is full of energy with an open kitchen and three wood-burning pizza ovens that represent Italy’s three active volcanoes (Mount Etna, Mount Vesuvius and Stromboli). Those ovens crank up to 700 F with oak wood, and with a touch of Disney whimsy, the “faces” of the fiery ovens open their “mouths.” From fritto misto, an enormous platter of fried mozzarella, calamari, eggplant, asparagus, zucchini, artichoke hearts and arancini (rice balls) to the signature lasagna verde with spinach, Parmesan, béchamel sauce and a generous flourish of nutmeg, the menu is authentic. Patina Executive Chef Charlie Restivo really focuses on the pizzas, with mozzarella flown in from Italy, the water from a source in the United States that is similar to the alkaline of the water in Naples, and San Marzano tomatoes – absolutely no substitutions for a “certified” Vera Pizza Napolitana, with specific rules, including hand stretching the dough. The gargantuan “1/2 meter” to share is rolled to the table on a stainless steel cart.

Karamelle-Küche. German for “caramel kitchen,” the new shop in the Germany pavilion at Epcot is themed like an Old World German caramel shop. A show kitchen features cast members making fresh caramel popcorn, caramel apples, and caramel-covered strawberries and marshmallows. Werther’s Original candy is on the shelves, and the shop also includes gourmet caramels, cookies, brownies, fudge and cupcakes. It’s the only free-standing retail location in the world for Storck, makers of Werther’s Original Caramels, and you’ll find some goodies on the shelves that you can’t find anywhere else. The shop replaces the Glas und Porzellan shop.

Pollo Campero. The international Latin restaurant at Downtown Disney Marketplace, best known for its fried and grilled chicken, will also be offering chef-prepared salads, sandwiches, wraps, fruits and healthy snacks, as well as vegetarian, gluten-free, sugar-free, low sodium, and organic offerings. The quick-service eatery takes over the space formerly occupied by McDonald’s.

More Dining Highlights

Queen Victoria’s Room. Guests are indulged with an evening of divine tastes and plenty of pampering in the new Queen Victoria’s Room at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. But Queen Victoria’s Room is about so much more than the feast. Behind closed doors, it’s different from Victoria &Albert’s elegant main dining room; the staff under the direction of maitre d’ Israel Perez expertly revives the European art of tableside finishes for each dish. With just four tables, diners are encouraged to savor each bite – and even to take a walk around the Grand Floridian between dinner and dessert. The restaurant has a new website, www.victoria-alberts.com. Cost for dining in Queen Victoria’s Room is $200; add wine pairings for $95. For reservations visit the website or call 407/939-3862. A jacket is required for men. Valet parking is complimentary.

Front-Row Seat for the Kitchen at New Chef’s Table at Flying Fish Cafe. Award-winning Chef Tim Keating at Flying Fish Cafe at Disney’s BoardWalk has a loyal following, and guests often ask him to create a special dinner – something that’s not on the menu. And most of the regulars love a seat at the wide granite bar facing the on-stage kitchen. Now the first six seats at the coveted Chef’s Counter are reserved for the new Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner, a nightly affair that offers five courses paired with wine for a special evening – “a new spin on menu items,” said Keating. And there’s plenty of interaction with the well-orchestrated team of chefs. Sommelier Keith Gimbel expertly pairs delicious wines with each course. There are two seatings nightly, Sunday through Thursday, at 5:45 and 8:15 p.m. Cost is $135, $85 without wine. Make reservations at 407/WDW-DINE. There are a handful of blackout dates throughout the year (mostly around busy holidays).

Kona Island Sushi Bar at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The 20-seat sushi bar is now open nightly, located right outside of Kona Cafe near the monorail. Mornings they serve coffee, tea, pastries and fruit. At 5 p.m., the menu morphs to sushi with about a half-dozen rolls, sashimi (fish without rice) and nigiri (fish with rice). If you prefer your fish cooked, there’s a delicious shrimp tempura roll with fresh mango or the Kona crab cake roll made with lump crab, avocado and Asian tartar sauce. Traditionalists can stick with salmon or tuna sashimi or the delicious tuna poke salad. For vegetarians, there’s a cucumber roll. Pair any pick with a classic mai tai or Kona Cool Sundown cocktail, Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale or Kona Longboard lager, wine or sake.

California Grill Celebrates 15 Years at the Top. Since May 15, 1995, the California Grill on the 15th floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort has been winning culinary accolades. Chef Brian Piasecki has been running the California Grill kitchen since January 2009, focusing on seasonal and local products when possible, and coloring outside the box with dishes such as seared bison and a lobster salad with yuzu mayo. But we know that it’s the dazzling location high atop the Contemporary with a bird’s eye view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks that really take the experience over the top. And manager and sommelier Bridget Sherren showcases a stellar wine list and runs a top-notch team in the dining room.

Kouzzina by Cat Cora. Celebrating its first anniversary, this Greek-inspired restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk pays tribute to celebrity chef Cat Cora’s roots. Cora says that the new restaurant features “time-honored recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favorite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves.” The first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network’s hit show “Iron Chef America,” Cora is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Chef Dee Foundoukis keeps the kitchen running when Cora is on the road.

Tequila Bar at Mexico. La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot World Showcase offers 95 varieties of the popular beverage. With 30 seats, the lounge offers premium tequilas and margaritas, with light Mexican appetizers. And an official “tequila ambassador” from Tequila, Mexico. Most guests order the classic margarita, served in Mexico City since 1963, a simple trio of blanco teqila with Cointreau liquor and fresh lime juice. A half-dozen small bites are on the menu, from chicken, shrimp and blue crab tostadas to shrimp cocktail, guacamole and beef taquitos. And if guests prefer a cocktail without alcohol, the frozen piñata is a delicious blend of coconut, pineapple and strawberry juices. No reservations; hours are noon to 9 or 9:30 p.m.

The Wave…of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort features a “super lounge” and upscale restaurant with “bold American cooking with flavors from all over the world.” Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Wave…of American Flavors offers seasonal menus featuring local and regional products when possible, organic beers and trendy cocktails such as the “antioxidant cosmo” with açai juice. The innovative wine list has a quirky claim to fame: all screw caps, no corks. Cutting- edge wines from around the globe are showcased, as well as organic draft beers.

More Attention to Nutrition

Walt Disney World Resort is committed to offering healthy snack options that are widely available. The number of fresh fruit carts at the parks is steadily increasing while other nutritious snacks like nuts and trail mix also are more readily available.

Disney is continuing to work with manufacturers to reformulate recipes for candy, packaged food and bakery items sold in the parks, or identifying replacement products to find new products that do not use partially hydrogenated oil. Portion-controlled snacks and treats and packaging to promote nutritious food are part of the changes, as well as sugar-free, gluten-free and low-calorie options.

Disney World no longer running monorails during park Extra Magic Hours

Disney World no longer running monorails during park Extra Magic Hours

I heard about this rumor a few days ago.. The resort line of the monorails would no longer be running during Extra Magic Hours (EMH) at the Walt Disney World parks. Chris mentioned it yesterday on our Facebook Page to see what you guys thought about it.

It now seems that these rumors are becoming a reality.

Disney has now confirmed that the monorails will no longer run during EMH for Magic Kingdom and Epcot. They will provide extra bus transportation to help accommodate for the extra guest traffic.

Here is the official word from Disney:

From time to time, we make adjustments to our operations to accommodate for planned transportation maintenance. With that in mind, operating hours for the Epcot Monorail system will be modified to operate one hour after regular park close beginning July 11, 2011 and the Magic Kingdom Monorail system will also operate one hour after regular park close beginning August 1, 2011. At that time, watercraft (where applicable) and additional buses will be available to transport guests to their destination.

It looks like return service from evening Extra Magic Hours in the parks will be supported by watercraft and bus transportation. There is no word yet as to whether the Express Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) will continue running into the late hours.

Stay Tuned for More details are sure to come.

Those Little Things

Those Little Things

You’ve heard the term “little things”, it’s the little things that make all my Disney trips amazing. From my first, the one with former co-workers/cast members, getting that extra discount at the stores, or this last one, when we celebrated our second anniversary and chatting with the cashier where we got our first set of mouse ears as a couple and receiving the monogramming for free. It’s these little things that make an impression on you.

In my trips to Walt Disney World I’ve learned the following and I think everyone should put them to use on vacation:

  1. Its vacation, it’s not life or death. I’m all about planning Disney. But sometimes I have step back, realize that things happen and I’m there to just have fun. Planning out every second is great but a blister or a rain storm can change it and don’t let it ruin your time.
  2. Don’t forget to keep up your energy. If it’s required you go fast and hit the parks hard, sleep in, take an afternoon break for a nap and eat. Don’t let your blood sugar drop below normal. If this means a snack or an earlier eating time, do it. Don’t let a bad mood because you are cranky ruin a wonderful vacation.
  3. Talk to the cast members. See my previous statement about the free monogramming.  We’ve gotten extra fast passes as well. Sometimes it’s a free dessert or just a bit of extra pixie dust in your life. It’s those things that help with a trip. If you want tips or just want to try something new, don’t be afraid to ask.
  4. Don’t be afraid to be a kid. Disney is a playground, it’s there to make you happy and let you be a kid, or if you are a kid well than be one to the nth degree. Smile, ride every ride, race to get somewhere before your friends. Ride Space Mountain as many times in a row as you can.
  5. Try something new. If it’s a new ride, a new place to eat or well, a new activity or adventure, try it. DO IT! You never know if you’ll like the view from the top of Swiss Family Robinson’s Treehouse or the food in Morocco or the wine in Germany.

These are just a few of the little things I’ve learned throughout my time as a Disney vacationer, there are so many more. But this should get your started.

To help fans learn the signature “Shake It Up” dance moves, a DVD featuring a full hour of dance instructions through five routines (“School’s Out,” “Watch Me,” “Breakout,” “Not Too Young” and “Shake It Up”) taught by “Shake It Up” choreographer Rosero McCoy is also included. The DVD was helmed by Andrea Ambandos who has directed and produced, through her company Dragonfly Productions, many popular workout video series including “10 Minute Solution,” Jillian Michaels titles, yoga workouts and dance workouts featuring Julianne Hough and the Pussycat Dolls. The CD+DVD combo pack hits stores July 12, while the single and video “Watch Me,” featuring Zendaya and Bella, is available now at iTunes and other digital retailers. The music video was directed by Marc Klasfeld, whose credits include videos for Katy Perry (“Last Friday Night”) and Nelly (“Move That Body”).

Since its 2010 premiere, “Shake It Up” has ranked as TV’s No. 1 series among kids age 6-11 and tweens. The series chronicles the adventures of best friends CeCe (Bella Thorne) and Rocky (Zendaya), whose dreams of becoming professional dancers are realized when they land roles as background dancers on the most popular teen dance show, “Shake It Up, Chicago!”   From the beginning, music and dance have been the keys to the show’s success, and with the new Walt Disney Records combo pack, fans can now take home the music as well as learn the moves.

Songs included on Shake It Up: Break It Down are:

1) “Shake It Up,” the show’s up-tempo synth-driven theme song, performed by superstar Selena Gomez.

2) “Breakout Performance,” a harmony-rich track sung by emerging country pop singer Margaret Durante.

Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions

Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions

Anyone planning a trip to Disney or who has been there before knows that are certain attractions that get a lot of attention and fill up the queues really quick. Therefore, some other Disney attractions that may not offer the latest technology or the biggest thrills sometimes get overlooked and are definitely underrated. This is unfortunate since some of Disney’s best secrets are underrated attractions. Therefore, I have compiled a list of Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions for you to check out on your next trip to Disney World!

1. Carousel of Progress-This attraction came from the mind of Walt Disney himself and was shown at the 1964 New York World’s Fair to raving reviews! Today, this show still runs in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom and has the honor of being the longest running show in American theater! The Carousel of Progress is unique in that the theater rotates around to different stages where you get to see how progress and new inventions impacted daily life in the early twentieth century. This charming show is both educational and entertaining. It’s usually not at the top of many Disney guest to-do lists; but it definitely should be! All ages enjoy it and it gives us a glimpse into the mind of Walt Disney himself.

2. TTA-This attraction is a favorite among Disney regulars, and it’s one of my personal all-time favorites too. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority WedWay People Mover has guests board a vehicle which takes you on a covered track all around Tomorrowland and even into some of the buildings and attractions! This attraction is rather simple in that the gentle ride and the view is the primary draw; but its underrated because it’s so enjoyable! Our family likes to hop on the TTA to get off our feet, enjoy the breeze you get from moving down the track, and enjoy good conversation. The seats in each car face each other which is ideal for chatting and planning the rest of the day. It’s also a great attraction for parents who have tired kids or who just need a break from the heat and crowds.

3. The American Adventure-This attraction is an audio-animatronic show located at the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot. I think this show gets overlooked as most of the attention focuses on the Magic Kingdom’s Hall of Presidents; but the American Adventure is just as good, if not better, with it’s elaborate sets and variety of American heroes. In fact, one of the audio-animatronics actually twirls a lasso! This patriotic show is moving, entertaining, and I believe it’s a must-see for any Disney guest!

4. Living with the Land-Living with the Land is a gentle boat ride located inside The Land pavilion at Epcot. This attraction educates guest about the earth and different landscapes before taking them through greenhouses where guests witness new agricultural methods. Adults will find it very interesting; and kids will enjoy the ride and seeing Mickey shaped pumpkins being grown!

5. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse-This classic Disney attraction is based off of the Disney film which was based off of the famous novel! This attraction is one of the most comfortable, innovative treehouses you have ever seen! At The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, you walk through the different rooms in this tree and see how the Robinsons used whatever they had to make a home, such as a huge seashell for a sink! There are tons of detail and clever egineering everywhere so be sure to take your time and keep your eyes open!

So what do you think? Do you think these attractions are underrated? Are any of these attractions some of your favorites?
