Afternoon Game Drive Paired with Dinner at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Savannas surrounding Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge offer up a panorama of wildlife as creatures large and small roam the grasses, forage for food and play in harmony. The grounds are home to approximately 200 mammals and exotic birds representing a cross-section of the African palette – bongo, greater kudu, zebra, wildebeest, impala, African spoonbills and Eastern white pelicans, to name a few.

Just before sunset, eager adventurers gather outside the lodge with a guide for a thrilling game-viewing safari. Up to 12 persons can board a specially designed vehicle for a bird’s-eye view of a typical North African safari.

Safari-goers are wide-eyed as many animals move within feet of the vehicle.  Cameras and videos are poised to capture the Africa-like wonders.

The second part of the journey leads to the resort’s signature restaurant, Jiko-The Cooking Place, where a savory South African feast awaits safari-goers. Flavors of Africa fill the air in a memorable multi-course meal served family-style and blending regional spices and grains. Popular South African wines are paired with each course, which includes a sweet display of desserts.

The Wanyama Safari is offered to guests (age 8 and up) staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas, seven days a week at 4 p.m. For reservations, guests can call 407/938-4755, or visit the concierge desk at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge upon check-in.

Disneyland Rollercoaster Closed After Object Blocks Track

Disneyland Rollercoaster Closed After Object Blocks Track

According to the OC Register two dozen passengers had to be removed from California Screamin Rollercoaster Friday afternoon due backpack that fell onto the track.

Here are the full details:

Firefighters removed two-dozen people from a rollercoaster at California Adventure after a backpack fell onto the track and stopped the ride Friday afternoon, Disney officials said. A backpack fell out of a “ride vehicle” on the California Screamin’ rollercoaster about 6:30 p.m., landing on the track and causing the other vehicles to automatically stop, Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown said.

No injuries or collisions were reported.

About 24 people in one of the vehicles were stuck on the track. It took about an hour for firefighters to remove them one at a time by ladder, Brown said.

About 20 fire officials responded, including members of the Anaheim Fire Department’s urban search and rescue team and paramedics stationed at California Adventure.

Rescuers used a ground ladder to reach the riders, who were no more than 20 feet up at the bottom of a loop on the coaster, Anaheim Fire Marshal Jeff Lutz said. The backpack was removed from the track.

Make your own Disney’s Kona Cafe Breakfast

Make your own Disney's Kona Cafe Breakfast

Many times we get home from Disney World and wish we would have eaten at a specific restaurant just one more time. Or we find ourselves craving certain foods from our favorite WDW eateries.

As our Disney World vacation gets closer I have been craving Tonga Toast and POG Juice.  So having spent most of the morning looking around the internet I was able to locate a the best Tonga Toast and POG Juice recipes. I attempted to make Tonga Toast in the past without much success unlike POG juice that was quite easy and made up a large batch that lasts all week long.

Quick Tip – Did you know you can get Tonga Toast at Capt Cooks Quick Service Restaurant in the Polynesian Resort for a fraction of the cost of Kona Cafe?

If you have made Tonga Toast that has been close to the original please let me know what you did in the comment box below.

Here is the recipe:

Make your own Disney's Kona Cafe Breakfast

Tonga Toast

Ingredients:

2 slices sourdough bread, cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick (Softer the bread the better)
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
oil or shortening for frying
whipped butter and/or syrup

Method:

Cut a 1-inch pocket in one side of each bread slice. Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff two pieces of fruit in each pocket of bread; set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Mix together well the egg, milk and vanilla.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350º F. Dip stuffed bread into egg/milk mixture and let it soak a few seconds to let penetrate bread. Fry bread on both sides in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels or wire rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.

POG Juice

If you lived in Hawaii you could drive down to the corner store and pick up some POG juice, but here is the recipe I was able to find around the interwebs so you can make it at home.

Basically it is Passion Fruit Juice, Guava Pineapple, and Orange juice mixed together.

Ratios say 1/3 each but I am sure with some trial and error you could get to to your taste.

Disney Confidential: Helena Bonham Carter on The Lone Raner and Disney pens Gargoyles Movie

Disney Confidential: Helena Bonham Carter on The Lone Raner and Disney pens Gargoyles Movie

Hey there guys and gals. Anonymouse here.

I have some interesting Movie News/Gossip today.

First off my favorite witch from the Harry Potter – Helena Bonham Carter is striking a deal with Disney to be in the Johnny Depp Film The Lone Ranger.

Here is the scoop from Geeks of Doom:

It’s being reported that Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, and Dwight Yoakam are all in talks to join Walt Disney’s revival of The Lone Ranger.

The trio join stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer on the project, as well as director Gore Verbinski, who of course directed Depp in the first Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and the recently released Rango.

Depp is playing the role of Tonto, while The Social Network star, Hammer, will be playing the title character, who’s attacked and left for dead by a ruthless gang before putting on the mask and becoming the Ranger. Yoakam would be playing the leader of said gang, while Bonham Carter would be the Madame of a brothel and Pepper an officer in the military.

As if that wasnt news enough even more Nerdy Disney news came outta Hollywood yesterday. I can’t believe it has been a whole year since I reported on the Gargoyles Movie. I can hardly contain contain myself.

Well it seems the Gargoyle train hasnt picked up much speed as of yet. So far 2 writers are attached to the film. They brought you the Emmy Oscar Rotten Tomato film G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra. David Elliot and Paul Lovett  are working together to write the story to this Disney Film that will be nothing like the 90’s tv show.

Chip has asked for a moment of passing gas silence for the super awesome 90s cartoon Gargoyles. I am sure this film will probably be another Mars Needs Moms which is coming to Bluray August 9th.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now.

Got any good rumors?  Please email me at [email protected] or on my Facebook Page.

Top 5 Disney World Things We Want Everywhere!

Dole Whip Float

Part of the magic behind a Disney vacation is revisiting those things that you just can’t get anywhere else. When we experience them for the first time at the Disney Parks, we are hooked! During each visit we taste, ride, see, or hear them again and again.

But what if we could experience those things year round in our own back yard, so to speak?

In that vein, here is my Top Five list of Disney World things we want everywhere:

5. Attention to Detail. No one does this like Disney! Every detail is plussed to the max. The cleanliness stands out, as does the
extraordinary theming. And I’m not alone in desiring a little Disney detailing in my everyday life, as the new TV show Backyard Disney attests!

4. Dole Whip. I don’t think you can even get this Island Treat in the real Hawaii! But if you’re one of the people who will stand in line for hours just to get a spoonful, then you know that this confection should be sold worldwide!

3. Cast Members. Imagine if all service personal that you come into contact with during your normal day had that Disney attitude! No more surely grocery store clerks. No more indifferent bank tellers. Just smiling faces everywhere!

And my wife said that what she would like is a Cast Member standing on every corner to help her find her way. On the street. In the mall. Everywhere! Nothing like that two-finger point to clarify your direction in life.

2. Monorails. OK, I know these marvels of transportation are found outside WDW. Las Vegas has one (for now), as does most of Asia. But here in North America, a Monorail ride is almost impossible to enjoy outside the berm, as it were!

Imagine again that your child could walk to the end of your driveway and board a Monorail to school. Morning commutes to work on Monorail Teal? Bring it on! And no more lite rail trains to block you at every intersection. Now that’s my vision of transportation heaven!

1. Mickey Premium Bars. Delish! It’s almost pointless to try to convince anyone that this would be a good idea as I’m sure you’re all on board for this one! My friend Ashley sure is, and you can read her lament here over this confections exclusivity.

Have I missed your favorite WDW thing that you want everywhere? Let me know in the comments section!

Disney Food Confession: The Gigantic Smoked Turkey Leg

Disney Food Confession: The Gigantic Smoked Turkey Leg

Where to find it:  At smoked turkey leg carts all over the Walt Disney World Resort.  In DHS, there’s a permanent stand, The Toluca Turkey Leg Company, on Sunset.  Your nose will find it before you do.  Just follow the delicious scent of smoked meat.

What is it:  A gigantic smoked turkey leg that is an iconic Disney theme park  experience. It used to be one snack credit but it now a Table Service credit. My suggestion pay for it with Cash.

Why you want it:  Because deep down, you’ve always wanted to act like a caveman. Because it’s juicy and delicious and completely carb-free.  Look,  we know you wouldn’t walk around in Mickey ears back home and you probably also wouldn’t walk around like Henry the 8th gnawing on a big ole turkey leg either. Some things you keep special just for Disney World.  So dig in!  Don’t feel guilty.

Photo Credit:  Special thanks to Chris from the Pickles and Cake blog for sharing what is undoubtedly the best turkey leg eatin’ photo ever!

Top 5 Things To Do at Disney World Without Tickets

Top 5 Things To Do at Disney World Without Tickets

Despite what you may think, there are things to do at Disney that don’t require park tickets. Believe it or not, you can have a fun day at Walt Disney World packed full of Disney magic without ever passing through a turnstile. How? Check out my Top 5 Things To Do at Disney World Without Tickets to find out!

1. Downtown Disney-Downtown Disney offers LOTS of shopping and dining! I can easily spend hours here wanding through the World of Disney, Trend-D, and the Art of Disney Kids will also enjoy Once Upon a Toy store, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and the giant Lego store with lego statues representing Disney characters and even a family visiting Disney World! There’s also entertainment here at night which you can particpate in! Check out Guide to Downtown Disney – “Must-Sees’ for First Timers for more info!

2. Resort Hop-For a full, yet relaxing day, hop aboard the Monorail and visit some of Disney’s deluxe resorts to check out their magnificent lobbies, restaurants, shops, views, decor, and Hidden Mickeys! They are also a great place for photo ops! You can board a ferry and visit both Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, or walk from Epcot to the Yacht and Beach Club and the Boardwalk for some beautiful views, seaside decor, and dining. Check out Chip’s series of Resort Hopping 101 here.

3. Pool Time-Every Disney Resort offers great pools, usually several per resort! You can easily spend hours relaxing by the pool and going for a swim on a hot day!

4. The Boardwalk-Located next door to Epcot and across the water from the Yacht and Beach Club, the Boardwalk offers a resort, restaurants, entertainment, sweet treats, shopping, and more! My favorite time to visit the Boardwalk is in the evening where you can enjoy some Boardwalk games and the live entertainment!

5. Resort Activities-Most Disney resorts have tons of things to do and see that you may not be aware of. For example, at many of the resorts, you can take advantage of the watercraft available for a cruise or a fishing excursion. You can also rent a surrey bike and tour the resort grounds with your family!  There’s also the torch-lighting ceremony at the Polynesian, live music in the Grand Floridian’s lobby, spas, and hammocks on the beach! You can also take a tour of Wilderness Lodge, watch the roaming animals at Animal Kingdom Lodge, or visit Fort Wilderness to pet and ride the horses at Tri-Circle-D Ranch or challenge your family to a game of checkers. For more resort activities, ask a Cast Member or visit the concierge desk at your resort for a list and times!

Taking a day off from the parks and taking advantage of these activities are both enjoyable and beneficial. Not only do they offer magical experiences, but they are also great for guests who have been rushing around the parks and need a slower pace. This is especially true for little princes and princesses, seniors, and tired parents! A day without tickets can also be great for your wallet and your vacation budget!

Grade: A

There are few cartoon characters that come with as much nostalgia as Winnie the Pooh.  Pooh Bear has been adored by children and families everywhere since the 1920s.  Walt Disney Animation Studios has picked up right where Pooh left off – on his quest for honey.  Not much has changed around Hundred Acre Wood.  All of our favorite characters make an appearance in this feature film version.  Pooh’s BFF, Eeyore, has lost his tail.  Christopher Robin along with Pooh and the rest of his stuffed animal buddies decide to hold a contest to see who can find the best replacement tail for Eeyore.  Of course, along the way Pooh is constantly distracted by his incessant hunger for honey.  During their search for Eeyore’s tail, the gang become afraid of a fictional creature called a “Backson” which they think has kidnapped their owner Chistopher Robin, and they devise a plan to trap the Backson thus rescuing Robin.

Disney Food Confession – Crispy Cornflake French Toast

Disney Food Confession – Crispy Cornflake French Toast

Where to find it: Wolfgang Puck Express, Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World.

What is it: French toast dipped in cornflakes and served with seasonal fruit and maple syrup.

Why you want it: If you’re a French toast aficionado, you must try this meal. Its combination of textures and flavors make for a memorable morning meal. The medium-thick slices are coated in a layer of cornflakes, a crunchy contrast to the toast’s melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the mix of grated cinnamon, fresh fruit and maple syrup add sweetness and spice to the dish. It’s one of my must-nosh breakfast dishes at Disney!
