In case you missed the news.

Due to a possible defect in the refrigerators in some of the Guest rooms at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, as well as Aulani Resort hotels at these locations have removed or temporarily disconnected Guest room refrigerators until the issue can be resolved.

Guests staying at these Resort hotels will be notified of the refrigerator removal via a letter in their room. Currently the schedule for replacing the refrigerators at these Resorts is expected to last several months.

This is for all Resorts, except Art of Animation, Disney Vacation Club rooms and the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground. Currently we do not have an exact time frame for when the fridges will be replaced, but it is expected to take at least 4 months. At each Resort there will be a limited number of refrigerators available by special request.

Disney “Rapid Fill” Mugs may be Coming Soon

photo 2
photo 2

Mug

Have you heard about the new “Rapid Fill” mugs that might be coming to the Disney World Resorts? I heard about the RFID testing that went on not that long ago, but  I didn’t think it was really popular. I guess I thought wrong because it seems as early as this month Disney is bringing in “Rapid Fill” mug to the All Star Resorts.

The new Rapid Fill mugs have an (RFID) chip installed in the mug that allows it to be programmed for multiple days, all the way through Guests’ entire length of stay (even more than 14 days, but they have to be consecutive). Mugs will allow Guests to refill beverages at any resort self-service beverage station. Guests also will be able to check their remaining days available on the fountain beverage dispenser’s LCD communication display.

Here are some things I heard about the program:

  • You can purchase a “Rapid Fill” Mug even if you are not on the dining plan.
  • You can use the mugs at any resort self-serve beverage location.
  • You can not use past mugs for future visits.
  • You can use the mug for 14 consecutive days. You can extend the mug beyond that as long as the days are consistent and within your current stay.
  • You may be able to add a water park option to your mug in the future.
  • Rapid Fill mugs may only be purchased at Walt Disney World Resort hotels with self-service beverage stations.
  • The Rapid Fill mugs will be the only refillable mugs available at this time. You may choose to purchase a non-refillable paper cup if you like.
  • You will  be able to get ice and water with any cup.

The prices of the mugs vary based on  number of days for refills, as follows:

  • $8.99 for 1 day
  • $11.99 for 2 days
  • $14.99 for 3 days
  • $17.99 for length of stay (4+ days)

I am not happy about this but I can understand why they are doing it. What are your thoughts?

Possible Changes to the Guest Assistance Card

Anonymouse
Anonymouse

gl

Hola my fellow Disney addicts it is I, Anonymouse! It’s been awhile since you heard from me, I know you missed me. I am back with some rumors that I  have heard around the “World” lately.

I am sure most of you heard about the scandal concerning some people of the richer persuasion paying for  disabled tour guides with a Guest Assistance Card so they can use their pass for quicker access to the rides. Well Disney is rumored to be doing something about it. They have not released anything officially yet but my sources tell me that they definitely want to make it harder for people to abuse this privilege but they also still want to remain fair to people who are honest and truly do need the card. Now that is a fine line and not an easy task. We know Disney always does their best to make everyone’s vacation magical.

I am sure you want me to get to the gossip already. I was told by my super private inside source that they’re considering a few options:

  • They may require some kind of documentation or proof that your disability exists. They can’t ask for medical proof due to HIPAA Privacy laws so I am not sure how they would go about doing this. A CM told me that they are talking about asking for proof of a Handicapped Parking permit in order to get the Guest Assistance Card.
  • Another thing that is floating around is the Guest Assistance card may only be used by the person who needs it and not accompanying friends and family.
  • They may ask for ID when getting and using the Guest Assistance Card.
  • Lastly there are strong rumors that at some point the GAC will be somehow be combined with the Magicbands and RFID technology.

Let’s remember that this is just rumors at this point. As soon as I have confirmation you will be the first to know.

How do you feel about the possible changes? Have you heard anything different?

Any who, that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now. For my past Gossip articles be sure to check them out here.

Got any good gossip/rumors? Please email me at [email protected] or on my Facebook Page.

2014 Walt Disney World Package Prices Are Finally Here

disney 2014 logo 1 012513
disney 2014 logo 1 012513

disney-2014-logo-1-012513

Starting tomorrow on the 10th, at 7 am Eastern, you can finally book your 2014 Walt Disney World Vacation packages. While room only has been available for awhile, packages with tickets and dining have not.

These packages will be valid for arrivals January through December 2014. Vacation packages may only be booked for travel up to 499 days prior to arrival (and travel must conclude by Dec. 31, 2014).

If you have booked a room only, remember that it is non transferable. Disney has them set up as different accounting systems, so you must cancel the existing reservation and book a new one with the package.

There has also been some talk of ALL pricing being available for 2014 starting tomorrow, including military, which is earlier than normal. This has NOT been confirmed by Disney, they won’t say either way, but it was stated that ALL pricing will be available, so we will have to see.

Don’t forget that Chip is offering that great booking incentive for his fans ! FREE MONEY ! When you book with Destinations in Florida,  you will receive an in-room credit or Disney Gift Card (your choice). You can use this free gift for souvenirs, dining, snacks, and more! The Disney Gift Card will be mailed to you if you are within the United States and are booking at least a month out.  The in-room credit will be put on your Key to the World card upon check-in. You can use it anytime during your Disney World vacation!

The amount of the room credit/gift card you receive is dependent on your package total, excluding airfare:

  • If your package total is between $2,000- $3,000, you will receive a $20 room credit
  • If your package total is between $3,001- $4,000, you will receive a $30 room credit
  • If your package total is between $4,001- $5,000, you will receive a $40 room credit
  • If your package total is $5,001 and above, you will receive a $50 room credit

In order to receive this promotion, the package total is calculated before airfare and you must purchase a minimum 3-day ticket pass.

Don’t forget to enter Chip’s Gift Card Giveaway. That will go a long way towards your 2014 vacation.

Rainforest Cafe’s Lava Lounge Opens in Downtown Disney Orlando

Lava Lounge Entrance
Lava Lounge Entrance

Lava Lounge Entrance

There’s a place to eat and drink at Downtown Disney Orlando that is also a feast for the eyes! The Lava Lounge at Rainforest Cafe is now open! Next time you visit Rainforest Cafe without  a reservation, you can head just to the left of the main entrance and just passed the crocodile (more about him later!) to find this welcome sight. If there is a table open – you can just seat yourself immediately – no reservation required. The Lava Lounge has the full Rainforest Cafe Menu including all the fun beverages like the Monggose Mai Tai and the Cheeta Rita. A cool thing to note: there are also some bonus menu items that are unique only to the Lava Lounge. The Volcanic Sliders, and Tectonic Tacos have been popular so far. If you like your brownies with hot fudge and ice cream on top, don’t forget to order Sparkling Volcano for Dessert!

Speaking of volcanoes, the Lava Lounge comes complete with one of those too. Volcanic “eruptions”  take place after dark, every half hour or so. The volcano puts on a mighty display in sync with a light and sound show. You can see a video of the spectacle here. We are in Disney after all, so there is also an animatronic crocodile found near the entrance to the Lava Lounge. Not just your average sedentary lounge lizard…this guy lurches forward, growls and opens his mouth every few minutes. It makes for a great photo opportunity! The kids and adults around me were really delighted by this element.

The lounge has a beautiful waterfront view that anyone can enjoy. This place is also family friendly, so if the kids are a little frightened of the thunderstorm and squawking animals inside Rainforrest Cafe – this might be a great option. They still have the stationary exotic animals added to the decor here, which always make for great conversation pieces. The setting is a friendly laid-back bar that feels casual and welcoming, and it is not uncommon to see families with kids inside. The lounge isn’t huge, but it is still a nice size so that you feel cozy and comfortable.

bar

Between the awesome waterfront view, moving crocodile, and erupting volcano, the Lava Lounge is almost like an attraction in itself. Undoubtedly added in anticipation of Disney Springs – this is an exciting beginning of all the fun Disney has in store for us in the future. Do you think you will be giving the Lava Lounge a try?

Wake Up With Disney – Featuring Donald Duck

wake up donald

I was so excited when Chip asked who wanted to review the Wake up with Disney App. I had just downloaded it and started playing with and was hooked immediately.

Once it is downloaded you can use Donald to tell you the weather, play some golf, poke or even as an alarm clock.

I spent a good thirty minutes just changing his clothes, poking him, making him dance and setting the alarm so he can yell at me. Yes, Donald Duck will yell at you to wake up.

1044684_353018484824736_1702156379_n

This is an actual screen shot from my phone of Donald yelling at me to wake up.

It is by far one of my favorite apps on my phone and has been a huge hit around the house. The alarm went off  this past weekend in between games at a softball tournament and managed to keep 5 – 7 year old girls occupied for 20 minutes.

The interactive weather is a fun feature, I only wish it was snowing so I could see that.

donald3

You can turn Donald into a night light for bedtime, he will slowly snore himself to sleep and then stretch and wake up when you tell him to.

wuwd_screens_ipad_s5

Right now it is only for Iphone, Ipad or Ipod touch with a free upgrade of the extra costumes. It can be downloaded in the Itunes store for $0.99 and in my opinion worth every penny.

Disney’s “Lone Ranger” Off to a Slow Start

Verbinski poses at the world premiere of "The Lone Ranger" at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim

The “Lone Ranger” is Disney’s big budget Western movie. The “Lone Ranger” managed to wrangle in only 19.5 million in ticket sales the first 2 days. It was outdone by Despicable me 2, which made 59.5 million.

The film, starring Johnny Depp as the masked man who fights injustice was likely to finish with about $45 million at domestic theaters through Sunday, Disney said. That was far below the $60 million to $70 million predicted ahead of the film’s opening.

Disney spent an estimated $225 million to make “Lone Ranger” and more than $100 million to market the film, an action remake of a 1930s radio show and a 1950s TV series.

The film’s not so great opening is a black eye for producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Verbinski and Depp, the trio behind Disney’s uber-successful “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.

Despicable Me 2,” produced for $76 million, pulled in family audiences to dominate ticket sales over one of the year’s biggest movie-going periods, the days around the July Fourth holiday.

The film from Comcast Corp’s Universal Pictures features the voice of Steve Carell.  The sequel gave Universal its biggest Wednesday opening ever and was the third-highest opening day for any animated film.

I think people just aren’t that into Westerns anymore. Which movie did you go and see this holiday weekend?
