Celebrate Christmas at Downtown Disney Winter Village at Disneyland

Some people feel the holidays are incomplete without ice skating, either doing it yourself or comfortably watching others do it the Downtown Disney District will be the place for you.

An entire Downtown Disney Winter Village will spring up around ESPN Zone and AMC Theatres on Thursday, November 14, adding extra cheer to the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. You’ll be able to visit quaint holiday cottages, browse for gifts in the “shopping chalets” and admire a 30-foot Christmas tree, the centerpiece of Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink, inspired by the lovable snowman in the latest Walt Disney Pictures animated feature “Frozen.”

Go ahead and lace up your skates so you can take to the ice on Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink. It’s the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit as you glide along to holiday tunes. Operating hours are 3 – 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 3 – 11:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Other activities in the Downtown Disney District scheduled for various dates and times during the holiday season will include Carolers on December 5 and December 16-25, Anaheim Ballet performing scenes from “The Nutcracker” on December 5 and 19, and Downtown Disney Unwrapped, a presentation of fun gift ideas beginning Friday, November 29 (Black Friday).

Try these Halloween Treats at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I recently visited Hollywood Studios to check out the new Halloween treats offered at the Scary Apothecary on Sunset Blvd! This year Disney is “treating” us with multiple delicious treats to tempt us with!

They have caramel apples themed from skeletons, Mickey Mouse pumpkins, and apples themed after the poisoned apple from Snow White. Also added to this list are cake pops shaped like Jack Skellington, and spiders with gummy worms for arms.

To round off the treats they also have chocolate and vanilla ghost cupcakes! These treats are reasonably priced from 3.99 for the cupcakes to 9.99 for the apples! I tried the cupcakes and they were great! The vanilla icing was overpowering, but the moist vanilla cupcake made up for the sweetness.

Overall for less than 4.00 (with an annual pass) it was a good choice. Get out to the parks and grab a treat before your left in the dark!

Meet Sofia the First at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Sofia the First is the newest and youngest Disney Princess. She has become such a popular addition to the Disney Princess family. Sofia the 1st is a popular new show on Disney Junior. It has created a whole following of little Princes and Princesses. You can now meet Sofia at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World. This special meet and greet has a beautiful backdrop of the kingdom of Enchancia. Disney also has a separate rainy day location.

Sophia will spend time with your family signing autographs and taking pictures in this new meet and greet location. Come along with Allison as she spends an afternoon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to meet the youngest Disney Princess, Sofia the 1st.

Thor: Treasures of Asgard at Disneyland Park

Here is the very first look at the Mighty Avenger, Thor, who will be appearing as part of Thor: Treasures of Asgard at Disneyland park.

Thor: Treasures of Asgard, coming soon to Innoventions in Tomorrowland, will present an epic collection of objects brought to Earth straight from Thor’s home world of Asgard. You’ll also be able to travel across the Bifrost, a cosmic bridge transporting you to Asgard for an audience with Thor himself!

Look for Thor: Treasures of Asgard to open November 1 at Disneyland park, and see “Thor: The Dark World” hits theaters November 8.

Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge Opens at Hollywood Studios

The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge opens on October 30 2013 at Hollywood Studios.

It will be located on existing Brown Derby patio. The lounge will serve guests on a first come, first served basis, and will offer small appetizer type food and drinks.

The menu items include:

Artisanal Cheeses, Brown Derby Sliders, Duck Confit Tacos, Prince Edward Island Mussels, Charcuterie Board for two, and Brown Derby Shrimp Cocktail. Beverages include beers, wines, and speciality cocktails. You can also order from the full Brown Derby menu, if you ask nicely.

New Star Wars Pins

Lucasfilm has been working with Variety the Children’s Charity to make some limited edition pins featuring Star Wars favorites like Yoda and Darth Vader. This is for Variety’s 24th annual Gold Heart Pin Campaign. The proceeds will benefit Variety programs that help disabled and disadvantaged children.

The new pins will be available for a minimum donation of $3.00 in movie theaters and certain retail outlets nationwide from November 2013 – April 2014.

A list of locations that are participating can be found at usvariety.org.

The Gold Heart Pin Campaign has been Variety’s signature fundraiser since 1991. Variety works with one big studio every year, like Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros. to design a pin based on a film or character.

Through this partnership, the Gold Heart Campaign has raised millions to help needy children.

New ‘Mixers and Masters’ at Downtown Disney Festival of the Masters at Disney World

The 38th annual Festival of the Masters is back November 8-10, one of the premier gatherings of artists in the Southeast with one-of-a-kind and limited-edition paintings, photography, sculptures, jewelry and more.

There’s so much more, from live music to hands-on fun for all ages. And this year, artistic cocktails take a front seat with a new twist called “Mixers and Masters,” with dining locations featuring specialty drinks for sipping and strolling. Look for feather banners to indicate which restaurants will be participating, with each cocktail priced separately.

How about Caveman Painters Punch from T-Rex Café, or a Picasso Punch from Paradiso 37 . . . the Pinkberry Martini from Wolfgang Puck Café or a Blue Nile from Rainforest Café. Fulton’s Crab House will be pouring sangria, and Portobello has a Strega-rita (Strega is an orange-flavored Italian liqueur). Sip a Huckleberry Lemonade at Splitsville, a pineapple mojito at Bongos Cuban Café or a fruity Planet Feature Presentation from Planet Hollywood. Halloween is quickly approaching, which means the holiday season is around the corner. I can’t think of a better place to spend a Christmas break than at a Disney theme park or resort, there’s simply so much to do and see at our parks this time of year.

That said, here are a few travel-planning tips and other things to keep in mind when you make Walt Disney World vacation plans for this season.

Buy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Tickets Early & Save – The party of the season will return to Magic Kingdom Park on select nights starting November 8. Buying tickets in advance is recommended as the parties are popular, but doing so can actually save you money. Check out the schedule of party nights and prices here.

Consider an Epcot Candlelight Processional Package – The Candlelight Processional is an amazing holiday show that’s included in Epcot admission, however, purchasing a Candlelight Dinner Package can help save you a seat while you enjoy lunch or dinner at an Epcot restaurant.

Bring ‘Glow With The Show’ Ears – Beginning November 8, holiday entertainment will shine brighter than ever when ‘Glow With The Show’ Ears debut at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parties (during the “Celebrate the Magic” show and “Holiday Wishes” fireworks), and at Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can buy glow ears at merchandise shops throughout Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Ears purchased at Disneyland Resort will work, as well.

Watch For The “Jingle Cruise” To Debut In Early November – As we announced earlier this week, for the first time in Magic Kingdom Park history Jungle Cruise will temporarily transform into “Jingle Cruise” this holiday season. Jingle Cruise is expected to debut in early November.
