Magic Bands Resort

Rumors are swirling this week about “Direct To Room” Check-In at Walt Disney World Resort!  Imagine stepping off The Magical Express and going straight to your room, dropping off your luggage and heading out to jump into the magic!  If the rumors are true, many of us will begin to experience this enhancement in the near future!  Direct to Room check-in allows you to bypass the front desk and head STRAIGHT to your room.  Disney World has made this an optional service.  Guests will have the ability to check-in online and receive a text or email message telling you what your room number will be upon your arrival. Your Magic Band will have the information loaded on it, so you simply head to the room when you arrive at the resort!

“Direct To Room” Check-In has been in the beginning testing phases for a while now at some of the resorts.  Rumors this week suggest a role out phase would begin this month.  Nothing has been confirmed by Disney at this point, but we have some dates to share with you!

Two of my favorite companies, Disney and Google have teamed up to create Take Me To Tomorrowland, a multi-sensorial teaser experience on both mobile and desktop.  The full site which will launch in the spring, will transport us into a 360° Tomorrowland environment.

For now we will have to check out the site at TakeMeToTomorrowland.com or use Google Voice Search technology (“OK Google, Take me to Tomorrowland”) for a peek at Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland opens in theatres on May 22, 2015 and is the all new mystery adventure starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson who team up together for a dangerous mission to discover the secrets of an enigmatic place “somewhere in time and space”.

Disney announced Thursday that Tom Staggs is officially the new C.O.O. of the Walt Disney Co. He is a 25 year Disney veteran and has held a few positions throughout the company. He will take on his new role immediately, while still running the Parks and Resorts division until they find someone to fill that role.

“Tom is an incredibly experienced, talented and versatile executive who has led Parks and Resorts during a time of unprecedented growth and expansion, including the construction of Shanghai Disney Resort,” Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said in a statement Thursday. “His proven ability to lead a business as well as his successful tenure as Disney’s former CFO make him an ideal Chief Operating Officer, expanding his portfolio into all the company’s businesses.”

He oversaw the new Fantasyland expansion and the beginning of the development of Pandora: The Land of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the launch of the Disney Fantasy and Dream cruise ships at Port Canaveral. Oh wait there’s more, he also oversaw Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, the Aulani Resort and Spa in Hawaii, and three new lands at Hong Kong Disneyland.

Disney Interactive announced the final 2 characters for the Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) line up – Tron’s Sam Flynn and Quorra. The characters are now available as digital exclusives for Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) through the Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 iOS app for $2.99 each, and will be available for PC in March 2015. Both will join all of the previously announced Disney and Marvel characters in the Toy Box mode.

“The iOS version of Disney Infinity has always attracted our largest audience, so we wanted to do something special to celebrate its launch. I can’t think of a more appropriate digital exclusive than Sam Flynn and Quorra from Tron,” said John Vignocchi, Vice President of Production, Disney Infinity.

Check them out:

Key highlights include:

Sam Flynn: Son of brilliant video game creator Kevin Flynn, Sam is ready for action. His skilled Lightcycle maneuvers make speeding around the Grid and outsmarting his foes a breeze. Wielding his Identity Disc, he battles his way to become a User that Programs revere.

Quorra: A rarity among Programs, Quorra, a fearless warrior, leaps her way into Disney Infinity. Don’t let her gentle nature fool you – she’s a true warrior at heart. Using her Katana and Identity Disc as weapons, Quorra is one Program you don’t want to cross.

Orlando has been Named Number 1 Hot Spot for 2015

Boathouse
Boathouse

Boathouse

According to Priceline.com, Orlando is the No. 1 “hot spot” for 2015. There are a lot of expansions and new attractions, not to mention some amazing restaurants,  adding to the Orlando appeal.

I live in Orlando and there has been a ton of construction going on around here lately. So here is a run down of the newest attractions to hit the Orlando area.

International Drive (also known as I-Drive)

I-Drive will see some big developments in 2015. There will be new stores, dining and entertainment venues to enjoy.

1. I-Drive 360, a new entertainment complex from Merlin Entertainments, will open a trio of new attractions. At the heart of the complex, The Orlando Eye is a 400-foot-tall (12.92-meter) observation wheel providing breathtaking views of Central Florida in all directions within fully enclosed, air-conditioned glass capsules. Madame Tussauds, the world’s most famous celebrity wax attraction, offers visitors the ultimate fame experience with its signature red carpet treatment. SEA LIFE Orlando delivers a new wave of underwater adventures with beautiful displays of colorful fish, sharks, jellyfish, sea horses and more, that turn the traditional aquarium observation on its head. The Yardhouse, Tin Roof and more retail, restaurants and entertainment yet to be announced, will add to the experience.

2. Orlando welcomes one of South Beach’s hottest dance clubs with the addition of Mangos Tropical Café. With 55,000 square feet (5,109 square meters) of entertainment space, the Orlando location is a massive restaurant and nightlife destination offering high-energy entertainment for a wide variety of tastes. Guests will enjoy Salsa, Bachatta, Reggae and Pop performances with Floribbean Cuisine and tropical cocktails.

3. Escapology Orlando brings a new kind of entertainment to Orlando with its first U.S. location. The attraction challenges guests to be their own heroes in a thrilling game of adventure and mystery. Teams of up to six players are locked in a themed room with just 60 minutes to combine clues, solve puzzles and discover the key to escape.

4. The Florida Mall takes coloring to a new level with the opening of Crayola Experience. The 70,000-square-foot (6,503-square-meter) attraction will offer 25 hands-on activities.

5. The list of dining and entertainment options unique to Orlando continues to grow with the addition of The Whiskey on Sand Lake Road, welcoming lovers of gourmet burgers, craft cocktails and rock ‘n roll fun. With over 100 brands of whiskey for the thirsty connoisseur, the venue will also host live entertainment, from musical guests to head-to-head “food fights,” where local chefs will pit recipe against recipe.

Theme Parks

6. Walt Disney World Resort is transforming Downtown Disney into Disney Springs doubling the number of shops, restaurants and other venues. The new area will open in phases starting in 2015 and include, Morimoto Asia, a one-of-a-kind dining experience created by Chef Masaharu Morimoto, of Iron Chef America fame. For the master chef’s first pan-Asian dining experience, Morimoto Asia’s extraordinary, 36-foot (11-meter) tall, two-story layout includes a vast range of areas to explore including open terraces, a grand hall, private rooms, long bar, cocktail lounge, waterside seating and more.

7. The Boathouse is an upscale, waterfront dining restaurant at Disney Springs that will immerse guests with experiences beyond the cuisine. Guests can listen to live music or take a romantic Captain’s guided tour aboard The Venezia, a beautifully crafted 40-foot (12-meter) wooden Italian Water Taxi featuring champagne toasts and chocolate-covered strawberries. The BOATHOUSE will be showcased in an expansive restaurant with three distinctive bars, one built over the water. Guests will enjoy a gourmet menu served daily until 2 a.m. featuring steaks, chops, fresh seafood and a raw bar.

8. STK Orlando blends two concepts into one—the modern steakhouse and a chic lounge. Unique features include a live DJ, high-energy atmosphere and a sleek environment designed to encourage guests to interact and mingle. STK Orlando boasts the only rooftop dining venue in Disney Springs.

9. Legoland Florida Resort will open a new land called Heartlake City, set to welcome guests this summer. The expansion will include a horse-themed disc coaster called Mia’s Riding Adventure, an interactive show titled ‘Friends to the Rescue’ and new shops inside the Heartlake Mall.

10. SeaWorld Orlando will debut an all-new show, Clyde & Seamore’s Sea Lion High, a hilarious tale, filled with amazing animal behaviors and splashy audience fun. The comedic sea lion duo will be joined by mischievous otters, a 2,300 lb. (1043 kg) walrus and a cast of goofy human characters.

Downtown Orlando

11. The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts delivers a stellar lineup of 2015 entertainment for its inaugural season: Broadway productions including Disney’s Newsies, Motown the Musical, Pippin and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast; big-name musicians John Mellancamp, Jason Mraz and Idina Menzel; and comedians Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and Bill Maher will complement an ongoing Jazz Roots series and Orlando Ballet season.

12. Orlando City Soccer Club is Major League Soccer’s newest expansion team set to debut in 2015 with global soccer icon, Kaká. The Orlando City Soccer Club will kick-off their first MLS season at the newly rebuilt Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium. After a $207 million reconstruction, sports fans will enjoy an all-new lower bowl with more legroom, improved broadband and Wi-Fi coverage and expanded concession with healthy and gluten-free options.

13. An influx of restaurants will join new downtown Orlando venues in 2015, including: Two Chefs Seafood, featuring comfort food and seafood from former chefs of Emeril’s Orlando and The Palm Restaurant; and North Quarter Tavern, a chef-driven neighborhood tavern by the team behind downtown Orlando’s power-lunch staple, Citrus Restaurant.

Area Hotels

14. Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will feature 20 Bungalows on Seven Seas Lagoon and 360 Deluxe Studios. The Bungalows will be the first of this type of accommodation at Disney, sleep up to eight guests, and feature a plunge pool with views of fireworks over Magic Kingdom Park. The first phase is scheduled to open in 2015. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel is getting a $125 million, multi-phased, multi-story upgrade.

15. The JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes will welcome new restaurant concept based on the resort’s 13,000-square-foot (1,208-square-meter) farm. Whisper Creek Farm: The Kitchen, will serve up farm-fresh food and signature craft beer.

Wow, that is a lot! Will you be enjoying any of the new attractions?

Fly Through the New Interactive Queue at Peter Pan’s Flight

Peter Pan new Queue
Peter Pan new Queue

Peter Pan new Queue

Even before you soar above the rooftops of London on your way to Never Land, Magic Kingdom guests experiencing Peter Pan’s Flight are immersed in a magical world thanks to a new interactive queue.

The eye-filling opening scene includes a corridor of interactive murals. Tinker Bell flies around the room and gets playful in the nursery of the Darling children. Enthralled guests are able to interact with some of the toys; their own shadows dance and play on the walls with the characters of the epic story, before being sprinkled with pixie dust and flying away.

Still in its testing phase, the new, air-conditioned queue joins other entertaining “first scenes” such as at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Haunted Mansion.

I will be checking this out in a few days. I can’t wait!

Have you seen the new queue yet? What did you think?

Disney Finds – Portable Battery Pack for the Parks

battery

There is nothing more frustrating than being at the Disney theme parks and running out of battery on your cell phone. I have spent countless hours on the stumps back near the Rapunzel Bathrooms waiting for my cell phone to charge. Well that is a thing of the past since picking up a portable battery pack. Now I just plug in my phone or tablet and enjoy the park as my battery recharges.

So today in my Disney Find I wanted to give you a few options for battery packs that will work with pretty much any phone or tablet you might have. What I suggest is be sure to bring your cable with you plug that right into the usb port on the battery pack.

Here are a few options I found under $50, because really you don’t need to spend any more than that.

ibattz Vogue Battstation Portable Smartphone and Tablet Charger – Retail Packaging – RedDisney Finds - Portable Battery Pack for the Parks (seen above) is small and has a Automatic power off which is really nice. The price is only $19.99 which is great!

charger

Zendure A2 Portable Charger 6400mAh Disney Finds - Portable Battery Pack for the Parksis a bit more rugged and has more battery than my first pick. Each port automatically detects your device and fine tunes the output to charge it at maximum speed. It has a few additional features is why it costs $39.

battery

Finally the Anker® 2nd Gen Astro3 12800mAh 3-Port is perfect for families. This battery pack has 3 ports and enough juice to recharge everyone a couple of times, or if you are like me you are charging multiple devices. What I like to do is when I sit down to a meal plug in my phones and my tablets and by the time I am done eating I am back up and running. Not bad for $45.

No matter what you choose I recommend having something especially if you are like me and share tons of photos online and spend most of your day behind a viewfinder.

Bill Condon is on board to direct the film with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films set to produce. The movie is set to begin production later this year, with no tentative release date announced.

Cinderella's Golden Carriage

The amazingly beautiful golden carriage that was used in the production of Disney’s all-new, live-action “Cinderella” is now at Hollywood Studios!

If you will be at the park anytime between now and April 11th you can check it out. It is located by the movie theater façade on Streets of America. The blue carpet will also be rolled out, just to add a little extra magic to your pictures.

Share your pics with #Cinderella on social media.

The carriage is covered in gold leaf and it is a whopping 10 feet tall and 17 feet in length. It weighs almost 2 tons!

Don’t forget while you are there you can also catch an extended sneak peek of “Cinderella” in the ABC Sound Studio.

The movie hits theaters on March 13.
