Zootopia-Concept-Art

The new artwork above gives us a peek into the world of Zootopia.  Coming to theatres in March 2016, Zootopia is a modern city with neighborhoods like Sahara Square and Tundratown.  Zootopia’s police force is full of big, tough animals until the first bunny,  Officer Judy Hopps joins the force. Teaming up with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), the fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Officer Hopps, must solve a mystery that will clear Wilde’s name and allow her to find her spot on the team.

Zootopia, a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons) and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.  Don’t miss this cute and colorful Disney movie.

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new poster for their upcoming movie “Tomorrowland”  If you look closely you can see a familiar building in the poster.   The shout-out to a favorite at all the Disney parks and part of Tomorrowland makes this Disney Addict excited to see this new adventure in theatres on May 22, 2015.

The film tells the story of a bright young teen (Britt Robertson) full of scientific curiosity who teams up with a former boy-genius inventor (George Clooney) and together they take off on a dangerous mission to find the secrets of an enigmatic place – somewhere in time and space – that exists on their collective memory as “Tomorrowland”

Also starring Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson. and directed by Brad Bird.

With just a few months until the theater premiere, Tomorrowland will be releasing movie trailers and more information to keep us on the edge of our seats, so follow me, your favorite ChipandCo.com Entertainment Writer on our website.

The recent expansion at Disney California Adventure Park brings us several new areas to explore.  Part of the Grizzly Peak Expansion, the New Smokejumpers Grill is just one of the new additions.  Opening on March 20, 2015, the Smokejumper’s Grill is a quick-service eatery, that is inspired by the brave men and women who battle fires in our California forests.  Full of delicious burgers and sandwiches, the New Smokejumpers Grill will be our lunch spot on our next visit.  Grizzly Peak Airfield  area renovations will include new landscaping and exterior changes to some of the buildings in the Condor Flats area, including the addition of pine trees for shade and the feel that guests are in California’s High Sierras.

Family favorite, Soarin’ Over California is also part of the expansion and remodeling complete with updates to its screen and projection system, Disney California Adventure will be the place to visit later this spring.

Loretta Garcia, Entertainment Writer for Chip and Co invites you to come and visit us at the Disneyland Resort this summer for our 60th anniversary celebration.  You can find me having lunch at the new Smokejumpers Grill.

Top 5 BEST Disney World Tips with Toddlers

Top 5 Best Tips WDW with toddlers

I cannot tell you how much I love trips to Walt Disney World with my son.  Seeing how excited he gets and how much fun he has is worth more than all the Dole Whips in the world.  That said, planning a trip to Walt Disney World with a toddler was a whole different game than I was used to.  As with everything, toddlers have their own set of special things to consider when planning your magical vacation to Walt Disney World.

1. Bring a stroller, or a baby carrier, or both!  There is nothing worse than carrying a 30 pound, sleeping toddler, through Magic Kingdom in the middle of July!  Even if your little one doesn’t use a stroller much when you’re at home, the amount of ground you’ll cover during your Walt Disney World vacation is huge!  Little legs are sure to get tired.  Plus, when they are walking, or in the carrier if you bring one (I’m partial to a Toddler Tula) the stroller is great to hold all of your stuff.  We brought a soft cooler with us and it fit perfectly into the basket of our stroller.

2. Plan Character Meals Character meals are a great way to introduce your toddler to the characters in a more laid back environment.  There is no waiting in line which is great at preventing boredom and crankiness.  Plus, if you plan a breakfast, your child will be at their most well rested, which is great for meeting characters.  And the bonus – there’s food!  There are some wonderful character meals at Walt Disney World, my favorites being Breakfast at Cape May Cafe and lunch at Tusker House.

3. Plan for naps, or just breaks.  Making sure your little one (and you!) stay well rested is key to having a great vacation.  Our plan is to hit the parks at opening, leave after lunch and either nap or just relax in our resort, and then head back for the evening (and dinner).  This works out really well for us.  If your toddler would nap at the parks there are some dark (and air-conditioned) attractions that are perfect for napping.  Our favorites were Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom), American Adventures (Epcot) and The Great Movie Ride (Hollywood Studios).  Yes, my son napped for the entire ride once!

4. Bring in snacks and small toys like stickers or bubbles.  This is two-fold.  First, there is nothing worse than a “hangry” toddler who can’t wait the five minutes it would take to get a snack from a vendor or quick service restaurant.  Disney allows you to bring in your own food and drinks so take advantage of that.  Second, some lines are just too much for the smallest Disney fans to handle.  I like to have a few small things to keep my child entertained in line.  My favorites include stickers, bubbles, a small stuffed animal and glow sticks.  We’ve also made some fun friends sharing what we’ve brought  with those around us.

5. Watch videos from the parks.  Again, a two-part suggestion.  First, allow your toddler to watch videos of character meet and greets, parades and shows.  It’s still not the same as seeing them live but it adds a little more perspective.  And second, watch videos of the attractions so you can determine if it’s appropriate for your child.  Some children may be fine on The Haunted Mansion, but others may not.  You know your little one best and, while it’s hard to predict the somewhat unpredictable, you should be able to get a good idea of whether or not your little one will be frightened.

Top 6 Magic Kingdom Attractions For First Timers

Pirates
Pirates

Pirates

Visiting Walt Disney World for the first time can be an overwhelming experience – it’s new, exciting, and there’s so much to do and see that you may not know where to begin! But don’t panic – I have compiled this list of must-do Magic Kingdom attractions for first timers to help you in your pursuit of Disney magic:

Carousel of Progress: Many would argue with this choice, stating its corny or not worth it, but I put it on the list as its one of the few rides created by Walt himself – you get to travel through decades and look at how technology and inventions have shaped our lives, and something else pretty cool about this one is that you sit in a rotating theater – as in the stage stays in one place, and the seats move around it. The wait is usually short, and it’s a nice chance to sit down and relax in an air conditioned theater, plus its appropriate for all ages

Haunted Mansion: Are you dying to become the 1000th ghost to join the Mansion’s 999 “happy haunts”? Then board your “doom buggy” on a tour through this dark, creepy house with spooks around every corner! There are tons of great illusions at play here, and I always see something new every time I ride it (which is always multiple times a trip, of course!). The cast members play the part of creepy bellhops and chamber maids as they tell you to “step lively” and “fill in the dead space” as you enter the ride – and from there the scares start! It’s a great ride for people who say “nothing scares them” – and then they suddenly are jumping at the sight of a corpse head popping up from behind a grave – classic

Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Ride that inspired the movies with Johnny Depp is one the whole family can enjoy – board your boat and head off for adventure on the high seas as you see two pirate ships duking it out, plenty of rum-drinking sailors, and a heartwarming “Take a Wench for a Bride” scene. As you travel through the scenes, you’ll spot captain Jack Sparrow himself sneaking around and trolling for treasure

It’s A Small World: Board a boat headed for international waters – as adorable small children sing about what a small world it is – and you glimpse pieces of different cultures from around the world! This is another one that Walt Disney created – and it was debuted at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, then it moved to Disneyland, where it was so popular that a WDW version was included in the original park opening in 1971. It’s not the most thrilling ride, but its cute and fun, and kids will love it – the sounds and displays are beautiful and whimsical. Warning – the song just might get stuck in your head for a while…

Space Mountain: Walt’s idea for a high-speed attraction themed around the space age comes to life with this Tomorrowland roller coaster. You launch off into space on your ship for a bone-rattling ride in the dark with twists, turns and dips that will make you squeal with glee (well, at least that’s what they make me do!). Roller coaster lovers and thrill seekers alike will really enjoy this, but I recommend that you prep small ones on what to expect so they aren’t shocked and end up crying (like I did my first time! But not to worry, I grew to LOVE LOVE this ride!)

The People Mover: This 10 minute journey on a vehicle that glides through Tomorrowland is a great way to check out the Magic Kingdom from up high – as the view is great! Kids and adults alike will enjoy traveling through the Park and even getting to ride through Space Mountain! The wait isn’t usually long, as the ride is a continual load so people are constantly getting on and off, and it’s a great way to relax after walking around all morning and just take in your surroundings!

Of course there are TONS of other attractions and rides to see aside from these – this list is just made up of the ones that you should DEFINITELY work into your Magic Kingdom trip – they’re the ones I feel capture that Disney Magic the best! But I would love to know what you think – what are your “Magic Kingdom Must do’s?”

Stay tuned right here on Chip and Co for more “Must Do” Attractions for First Timers!

Marvel Studios continues to share exciting trailers to keep us going until the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,”the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time will be coming our way on May 1, 2015 but in the meantime enjoy the trailer below and check out why it is all the buzz on the Marvel scene.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron brings us Tony Stark who is trying to jump start a dormant peacekeeping program.  Of course things are going to go wrong so that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, can join in and be put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. Bring in the villainous Ultron (James Spader) and it will be up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans.

Starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Chris Evans as Captain America. Add Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye,  Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Avengers: Age of Ultron is one I can’t wait to see.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” which was first published in 1963.  As the Entertaiment Writer for Chip and Co, I’ll be keeping up with all the Disney / Marvel news.  Follow us on Facebook and www.chipandco.com.
