The BOATHOUSE Makes a Splash at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World Resort

Over the past year, The BOATHOUSE: Great Food, Waterfront Dining, Dream Boats has been hoisting up along the Downtown Disney skyline. The venue is open now and is the first of several new restaurants coming to The Landing, a new neighborhood that will be part of Disney Springs.

The BOATHOUSE is an upscale waterfront dining experience showcasing steaks, chops, fresh seafood and a raw bar. Built over the water, the 600 seat nautically themed restaurant also features a display of rare dream boats from the 1930s – 1950s, a beautifully crafted water taxi and a fleet of amphibious autos, called Amphicars.

Amphicar Rides – Is it a car? A boat? Yes. And yes! Guests can experience the thrill of a Captain’s guided tour aboard a rare Amphicar that drives on land and floats in the water. The $125 price tag includes your own Car Captain and seating for up to three guests. Along the way, you’ll have a great view of Downtown Disney, direct from the water. I tested the Ampihicars last week and had a blast; you literally drive into the lake with a splash – plus, I felt like a celebrity, waving to all the curious guests onshore! This is the only place in the world to ride in these vintage vehicles. Tours are available daily from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., weather permitting, and will be available soon.

Italian Water Taxi Cruise – The Venezia, a breathtaking 40-foot wooden Italian Water Taxi also offers a Captain’s guided tour of Downtown Disney; this one is complete with live music, chocolate-covered strawberries and a champagne toast. Tours will be offered hourly from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., weather permitting, starting soon, for individuals and groups of up to 20. The cost is $75 per person or $50 per child under age 13. (Want a more private tour for two? Ask about the Antique Steamboat Tour aboard Lady Rose; the cost is $150 per couple.)

“Floating Art” – I knew they were beautiful, but I had no idea I was looking at a multi-million dollar fleet of rare boats. Gathered from museums, private collectors, and boat shows from around the world, be sure to take some time to stroll the marina. Photos are not only allowed, but encouraged, so have your camera handy.

Interior Décor – Boat motors mounted on the wall. Trophies from regattas of days gone by. Stunning photography and artwork, some historical, some richly modern. It’s all incredible. But perhaps my favorite décor element is the brand-new boat that the team modified so it could include a dining table. (I’ll just say it now, everyone will want to sit there, me included!) Of course, the true visual hero, even from inside the restaurant, is the water. The good news is that every single table has a great view, so there’s no such thing as a bad seat.

Entertainment – Harbor Master festivities take place throughout the day and evening, with flag ceremonies and lively musical performances of beloved bugle songs, performed aboard Lady Rose. Inside, live entertainment takes center stage with a variety of musical styles – during my “sneak peek,” familiar songs were floating through the restaurant.

It’s hard to guess what guests will love most about The BOATHOUSE. What are you most excited for? Tell me in the comments below – I’d love to know!

A fabulous new Disney themed line by Lauren Conrad is coming soon to Khol’s. The new collection will feature inspiration and themes of our favorite Disney girl Minnie Mouse.

Her latest collection is is no less impressive, starring the Marvelous Minnie Mouse! Minnie is a fabulous inspiration for summer with her cherry reds, navy blues, and adorable polka dots.

Minnie Mouse Dress by Lauren Conrad

This collection has a really fun retro vibe, with swing dresses, Peter Pan collars and polka dots. There’s a red dress with beautiful details like a perfectly sized bow adorning the back, and itty bitty Minnie Mouse designs dancing all over. I’m already eyeing the darling navy blue blouse, with polka dotted Peter Pan collar. These mousetastic fashions are sure to be a hit for any Disney lover, and available in a fair price range of $36 to $68.

Top 10 Disney World Non-Ride Experiences

Boneyard
Boneyard
Boneyard
The Boneyard will keep your kids busy!

Although the rides are so fun and unique at Walt Disney World, there are many other magical things to do! Think outside the lines…. the ride lines that is!  Everyone needs a change of pace from waiting in line, and at Disney there is excitement all around you!

Here are 10 non-ride experiences that I enjoy at Disney World:

10. Meeting Characters-  an essential part of a Disney trip is getting a photo and autograph from your favorite characters and Princesses.  Collect autographs on spiral-bound notecards, an official Disney autograph book, a pillowcase, picture matte, or my favorite idea, a white Vinylmation. Check the MyDisneyExperience App to find the characters in each Park. My favorite experience was meeting Merida with my daughter. She let her touch her curly locks and shoot her bow & arrow!

9. Cinderella’s Castle- take some time to explore the iconic Castle up close. You can walk through the tunnel into Fantasyland and see the beautiful silver and gold lined Cinderella mosaic. Take a look into her Wishing Well, watch the ducks swim in the moat, and even eat at Cinderella’s Royal Table where you will meet the Princess and her friends. Photos of the Castle up close are gorgeous at night too!

8. Pin Trade- My family and I are obsessed with Pin Trading! We proudly display our pins on a lanyard and when we someone with pins, we invite them to trade. Grab a lanyard from your resort gift shop, and a starter pack of Disney Pins and you’re all set. Downtown Disney has a great store Disney Pin Traders where the Cast Members trade a wide variety of awesome pins. Try it, you’ll be hooked!

7. Catch a Show-  each Park offers some great shows to sit back and enjoy if you need to rest or get out of the heat. The shows are fabulous at Disney and some of the most memorable experience for children. Finding Nemo – the Musical, Festival of the Lion King, Dream Along with Mickey, Beauty and the Beast Live, and the Frozen Sing-a-long are some of our favorites!

6. Stock up on Souvenirs- picking the perfect souvenir can be tough, but Disney Gift Shops and Downtown Disney offer unique items beside just tshirts. You can pick from hundreds of different Mickey Ears, customize a charm bracelet, build your own Droid or Potato Head, find something spooky at Memento Mori: the Haunted Mansion shop or  my personal favorite, The Christmas Shoppe in Magic Kingdom. They have every Disney character Christmas ornament you can think of!

5. Wine & Dine- although reservations for table service restaurants are recommended 180 days in advance, you could always walk up and ask if there are openings.  My Disney Dining Bucket List has a few good ideas! There are dinner shows too, such as Spirit of Aloha, and Hoop Dee Doo. Watch the belly dancers at Marrakesh, or go underwater with the sharks at the Coral Reef! Even if you just stop in for a glass of wine or a delicious dessert, there is always a new place to try!

4. Resort Hopping

  • Via Monorail:  Checkout the grand lobbies of the Deluxe Resorts and take pictures. They all have signature restaurants and even character dining. Take a ride through the Contemporary Resort, stop for a massage or breakfast with Mary Poppins and Alice at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.  The Polynesian Village Resort offers Kona Cafe, a great spot for Sushi, and ‘Ohana, one of my faves.
  • Via ferry from Magic Kingdom: Visit Wilderness Lodge Resort where there’s an Old Faithful replica and a super popular restaurant, Whispering Canyon. Head over to the Fort Wilderness Campground for s’mores at Chip & Dale’s Campfire.
  • The kids can play at one of the Disney Kids Clubs (reservations needed, fees apply) while you dine, or ride the Magic Kingdom Monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center and jump on the EPCOT Monorail  and take a ride around the Park.

3. Play Some Golf- Enjoy 18 holes at one of the award-winning courses such as Oak Trail,  or challenge the family to some Miniature Golf- Disney Style- at Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summer Land!

2. Splash and Slide–  There are 2 amazing Disney water parks to choose from: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach! Both are extremely fun and have areas for all ages. Relax on the sandy beaches and catch some sun. Water Park Fun & More option can be added to your ticket package which allows you to visit both water parks and DisneyQuest the Interactive Indoor Theme Park in Downtown Disney.

1. Let loose! –  Kids need space to run and play, and Disney knows that!  Tom Sawyer’s Island in Magic Kingdom has plenty of trails, caves, tunnels, and bridges to explore and climb.  Casey Jr. Splash Zone in Magic Kingdom is a water play area where the kids can cool off, splash, and run through sprinklers. Honey I Shrunk the Kids! Play Yard makes you feel smaller than ants while you and climb through nets and go down slides of giant blades of grass in Hollywood Studios. The Bone Yard is a cool archaeological playground that features dinosaur fossils, caves, rope nets, and slides in Animal Kingdom. The Resorts also have playgrounds.

It was hard to choose only 10 fun experiences at Disney outside the rides, as there are SO many great ones! What is YOUR favorite non-ride thing to do in the World?

As a Disney Vacation Planner,  I can help you fit all of these fun experiences into your next Disney World Trip! You can email me at [email protected] for a free Disney price quote, tips on travelling within your budget, or coordinating large group travel!

Disney has shared with us some exciting news for Dooney & Bourke fans visiting Walt Disney World Resort later this month. They will be releasing two new collections on April 25 at Cherry Tree Lane in the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace.

The first collection “Runway Princess” features many Disney princess favorites Snow White, Aurora and Ariel, Cinderella, and even Rapunzel! Rapunzel is newer to the princess scene, so it’s nice to see her on a Dooney & Bourke purse for us grown up princesses to enjoy! The new full color princess collection will come in a roomy shopper tote for $268, a letter carrier that’s great for slinging over the shoulder in the parks for $178, a cute pouchette for $148, and matching wallet for $198.

NDBB5590363-613x613

The next new collection is called “Beach” and has all the whimsy of summer time! These bags are nylon and features the classic Mickey and Gang having fun in the sun. The splashy blue background and sandy beaches make this bag a fabulous souvenir to remember your time in Sunny Florida. These adorable “Beach” bags will come in a shopper tote that’s great for taking to the beach for $248, a park friendly backpack for $298, a satchel for$228, and my personal fave the letter carrier for $198.

Don’t fret Disneylanders If you love the Runway Princess collection it will be available at select merchandise locations beginning April 25! Sadly the Beach collection will not make it’s way to retail locations in Disneyland. If you can’t make it to the parks Disney Parks online store will have the Runway Princess collection in mid May, and Beach will be finding it’s way to the online store mid-summer.

Lucky guests able to attend the product launch on April 25 will have a chance to meet Ian Ray, Creative Director for Dooney & Bourke from 11 a.m. to 1:00 pm. How exciting would it be to meet one of the creative minds behind these fabulous Disney designs?

I’m having a hard time deciding which one I want more! I love Rapunzel and actually squealed out loud when I saw the new Princess design! The Beach collection seems to perfect for summer to pass up though!! Decisions, decisions! Which one is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below!

Tomorrowland Sneak Peek Coming to Disneyland and WDW

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are teaming up to bring us a 12 minute sneak peek of the new movie, Tomorrowland! Along with the never before seen movie scenes will be a special exhibit including props, concept art, pictures from the filming of the movie and my favorite, images from the Disney archives. The sneak peek and exhibit opens on April 17th at Disneyland and April 18th in Future World at Epcot in WDW for a limited time. This is a first for both parts to team up to offer a sneak peek and a look inside the making of Tomorrowland.

Commenting on the exclusive “Tomorrowland” sneak peek event, Brad Bird, the film’s two-time Oscar® winning director, said, “We are excited that park guests will be the first to get an extended look at ‘Tomorrowland’ in the part of Disneyland that inspired the film. Tomorrowland is the one section of the park that Walt Disney himself designed to be tied inexorably to constant change. After all, the future is always in motion, continually shifting as humankind’s choices of the present remake the world ahead of us. ‘Tomorrowland’ is a state of mind. My hope is that the exhibit will convey some of the magic that went into bringing this land… and this movie, to life.”

Tomorrowland, the movie, opens in theatres, May 22, 2015 and is the story of Frank (George Clooney) a former boy-genius who teams up with Casey (Britt Robertson) a smart and optimistic teen full of scientific curiosity. Together they take off on a dangerous mission to discover the secrets of an enigmatic place located somewhere in time and space and known only as “Tomorrowland”.

Comment below or visit us at www.chipandco.com and meet me at Disneyland during the 24 hour event to check out the exhibit and sneak peek together.

This happened this afternoon at around 3:30 p.m.

Disney’s Tron Sequel Brings Back Wilde and Hedlund

TRONLEGACY

The latest out of the Walt Disney Studios about  the sequel to the Tron movies has confirmed our previous news.  It looks like Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund will be back to star in Tron 3.  With the return of Wilde and Hedlund, and Joseph Kosinski directing, we might believe the storyline will continue where Tron: Legacy left off.    But rumor has it that Kosinski is talking about a whole new take on Tron 3.

The first movie, simply titled Tron was released in 1982 starring Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges.  Tron: Legacy followed almost 20 years later,  in 2010 with Olivia Wilde as a human algorithm and Garrett Hedlund as Jeff Bridges’ son.   No date is set yet to begin filming but we do have confirmation that Tron 3 will be filmed in Vancouver, as was the second movie, Tron: Legacy.

What do my Tron fans have to say about Tron 3?   Where do you think the plot will take Hedlund and Wilde?

Keeping you updated with entertainment news on chipandco.com is your favorite ET Writer, Loretta Garcia.  Don’t miss all the updates coming our way this year with new movies and the 60th anniversary of Disneyland.
