Meet the Stars of Marvels Ant-Man

Ant Man Poster

President of Marvel Studios and producer of Ant Man, Kevin Feige, director Peyton Reed, along with the stars of Ant-man, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, David Dastmalchian and T.I. were at the Press Conference held at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

After the standard introduction the first question went out to Kevin Feige who was asked why was Ant-Man the next addition to the Marvel movie series.  Mr. Feige responded by stating that as a founding member of The Avengers, “it has always been clear that we are going to assemble all the Avengers eventually”.  With Ant-Man and Wasp still on the list of heroes to be showcased, it was time to do something unique and Ant-Man seemed to be a good choice.  Director, Peyton Reed talked about the movie being weird but in a great way.  He mentioned how with Marvel movies there is always a high bar to set and a “creative hunger.”

Paul Rudd was asked how he prepared for the role and whether he was a fan to which he shared that he did not really know the character, but did a bit of research by reading the comic books before filming began.   Rudd mentioned how his nine year old son was so excited about “Dad” playing Ant-Man and how it’s “cool to be abl to share this” with his family.

Evangeline Lilly discussed the importance Marvel puts into female characters being taken seriously and how her aspiration when she chooses a role is to have a parent come up to her after the film and say “my daughter idolizes that character, you are her hero.”

My favorite character in the move was Michael Pena who was hilarious and had me personally laughing out loud was asked if he had a script or if he brought some of himself.  Michael admitted he was “scared out of his pants” the first day of shooting but as time when on he started get into a groove and as his son warned him “Don’t mess this up there, Dad.”   Michael also shared that things got to be a bit too much fun after the first week, but Directior Peyton Reed was able to handle it all.

David Dasmalchian and T.I as part of Ant-Man’s “posse” also brought alot of the comedic element into the movie.  David ws terrified at first because it was not his comfort zone and then to be surrounded by all the guys – “but they all were so generouse – they kept throwing me the ball so I could play.”

T.I. expressed his excitement at “being a part of such a cast of well-trained and highly skilled actors and actresses ina stacked franchise” that is the Marvel Universe.

In reference to the movie, Michael Douglas was asked if he had the portrait of Dr. Hank Pym hanging above his fireplace at home to which Mr. Douglas responded that due to limited space he went out and bought a new house just for the portrait.

Cory and Paul were asked about their suits worn in the movie – Corey Stoll‘s suit was not practical and ended up being CGI so he wound up behind the scenes in PJs.   Paul Rudd was able to wear the suit had the opposite problem where he did not want to take it off.  Paul Rudd said he loved wearing the suit and felt different.  He felt “like Ant-Man in that thing.”

Corey Stoll’s portrayal of Yellowjacket gave him moments of terror, when he realized that there is a huge audience who is well informed about Marvel. But the excitement of stepping into the sets was “awesome.”

Discussion continued into how although in a typical heist movie you have usually the bad guys doing the stealing, here we have ants as the thieves and for a good reason.    Asked about the possibility for an “ant-woman” movie, Kevin Feige invited everyone to stay through the credits to get a chance to see plans for the Wasp.

One of the key subplots is the strained relationship between fathers and daughters.  Scott Lang accepts the role of Ant-Man for his daughter and Dr. Hank Pym and his daughter the success of the heist rests on their ability to repair their relationship.  There is also a father – son relationship between Dr. Pym and Darren as well as a very important one that may be overlooked between Ant-Man and Antony (the lead ant).  The idea according to Director Peyton Reed was to “create a Roy Rogers/Trigger or Lone Ranger/Silver type relationship” between Ant-Man and Antony.

As is the norm at press conference, the writers will place our recording devices and cell phones on the conference table.  The highlight of this very funny and entertaining press conference was when in the middle of Michael Pena’s response to a question, Paul Rudd, picked up one of the cell phones which was vibrating and said “we’re just in the middle of a press conference right now… Gonna have to call you back, okay?”  That was priceless and I can only imagine the person on the other end of the line in shock.

Meeting the cast of Ant-Man and learning a few behind the scenes antedotes is always an amazing magical adventure for this Entertainment Writer.   Don’t Miss Marvel’s Ant-Man in theatres this Friday, July 17, 2015 and share your favorite part of the movie with us at chipandco.com.

“Ant-Man” Marvel’s Latest Adventure Is Huge Hit!

Ant Man
Ant Man

ant

The newest Marvel Studios film coming to theaters on July 17, 2015 may be about a small super hero but it will be a huge hit.

Marvel Studios brings us one of the founding members of The Avengers to theaters for the first time in Ant Man.   Comic book fans, might remember that Marvel first introduced Ant-Man / Hank Pym in 1962.  Pym was the first Ant Man to test out the chemical serum that changed his size and gave him superhuman strength.

With Ant-Man, Marvel brings in Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who has been imprisoned for a crime that although he did commit, makes him a bit of a hero.  After being released from prison and meeting up with his fellow cell mate, Luis (Michael Peña), Scott wants to lead a quiet normal life and put the past behind him, but life has a way of not always going as planned.   Dr.  Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) has come out of retirement to protect his secret weapon,  which Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll) has finally been able to replicate with a few flaws.  Cross who was trained and took over for Dr. Pym plans to sell the serum to the highest bidder to make an army of Ant-Men.   Dr. Pym along with his daughter, Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) launches a fool proof plan to recruit Lang as the next Ant-Man.  After training Lang/Ant-Man in the use of the suit and how to control ant army the trio along with Lang’s buddies,ex-cell mate Luis (Michael Peña) and friends, Dave (Tip “T.I.” Harris) and Kurt (David Dastmalchian), set out to make sure Cross and his group of “investors” don’t succeed in their mission.    Armed with the ability to shrink in size while gaining strength and suited up,  Scott Lang battles to plan and pull of the heist that wil save the world.

Paul Rudd and Micheal Douglas are the perfect duo and Corey Stoll is a custom fit as the evil villain (Yellowjacket).   As with all Marvel films, there are several funny moments that had the audience laughing out loud.  Not to spoil the movie, but keep your ears tuned in for a familiar Disney song whistled by Michael Peña and tell me what you think of the fight scene between Yellowjacket and Ant-Man.  A special appearance by Thomas the Train alongside some of the best special effects makes Ant-Man the next “big” Marvel Hit.     Grab your favorite Marvel fan and head to the theatres on July 17, 2015 for the premiere of Ant-Man.    And don’t miss the surprise clip after the credits.

Crayola Experience to Open at Mall of America in 2016

Orlando
Crayola announced today that it will bring its popular family attraction, Crayola Experience, to Mall of America in the summer of 2016. This will be the third location for the brand, which just celebrated the grand opening of Crayola Experience Orlando on July 1.

Although best known for its iconic crayons and markers, the 112-year-old company now has more than 1,500 proprietary products and technologies, which serve as the inspiration for Crayola Experience’s 25 hands-on activities and live entertainment. Crayola first dipped its paintbrush into the attractions industry in 2013, when the company re-imagined Crayola Experience’s hometown facility in Easton, Pa. – the home of Crayola crayons since 1903. The attraction now welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests annually, and the company expects to host even greater numbers in Orlando and, soon, Minneapolis.

The 60,000 sq.ft. concept will be located in the Southeast Court on Level 3.

“Mall of America is known as a family destination, and Crayola is a family brand loved by both parents and kids,” Senior Vice President of Attractions and Retail Victoria Lozano said. “But beyond that, Crayola Experience is a family attraction that engages families in hands-on creative experiences, and we are really excited to bring this unique concept to this new, dynamic region.”

The adventures of Crayola Experience help kids and adults alike explore art and technology, express their creativity and experience color in a whole new way. At Crayola Experience MOA, guests will enjoy classic experiences such as naming and wrapping their own Crayola crayon (Wrap it Up!), starring in their own coloring page (Be a Star), painting with melted wax, bringing their coloring page to life in 4-D with their touch (Color Magic) and learning how crayons are made in the live Factory Show, as well as some new ones that will debut at Mall of America. Crayola Experience also is home to The Crayola Store, which has the world’s largest selection of Crayola products and unique souvenirs, such as plush and apparel.

Crayola anticipates hiring up to 250 seasonal and full-time employees. The facility also will host private events, field trips and birthday parties.

The Duckforce Rises

Coming to a mobile device near you, Disney has created a new game set in the world of DuckTales.  The game is a card-based battler with some RPG elements  The idea is to do turn-based battle against villains to protect Duckburg.  As with most card based games you use cards to deal damage and heal your characters. You can unlock new heroes as you go and even upgrade them with new cards. In The Duckforce Rises you pick your team and fight against a variety of enemies from the Disney universe.

Players will protect Duckburg from vile villains and control heroes like Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge and other outrageous Disney characters in epic card battles. Some opponents include Magica De Spell, Valkyrie Duck, the Beagle Boys. You’ll teleport your heroes to stunning battle environments like Dawson City, Mount Vesuvius, and the Streets of Duckburg! Gyro Gearloose will help you in the fight, creating health packs and producing energy that will teleport you to new battles. There is also a Hero Manager to consult between battles where you can upgrade character cards and unlock new characters.

No word on a release date for this one, but it’s currently in a soft-launch for folks in New Zealand and Australia on iOS. For now, it can be downloaded for free on the App Store with a New Zealand or Australian account.
