Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Opening This Fall at Downtown Disney

Final Hangar Bar
Final Hangar Bar

Final Hangar Bar

Indiana Jones fans will love the new Hangar Bar opening this fall at Downtown Disney.  Jock Lindsey was Indy’s pilot in the movie and this restaurant incorporates his globetrotting adventures into the decor and food! Guests will get a kick out of the salvaged equipment, spare airplane parts and mementos from Jock’s travels that decorate the 150-seat lounge located between Paradiso 37 and the Boathouse restaurant. You can even watch the sunset from Jock’s old steamboat outside on the water!

This is going to be an exotic watering hole with creative drinks and adventurous menu items. Creative cocktails like the Fountain of Youth and The Cool-Headed Monkey await you as you enter Jock and Indy’s world.

Menu items include choices like Rolling Boulder Sliders with three spice meatballs on mini-buns with yogurt sauce and  Brody Brats, grilled bratwurst with mustard and pickled cabbage. Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar’s take on chicken wings features spicy Asian wings (called “Lao Che’s Revenge”). And “Squid! Why’d It Have to Be Squid” is fried calamari flatbread with spicy harissa.

No official opening date has been released yet, but this place will not disappoint! Stay connected to Chip and Co for more updates on Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar and all of the other exciting additions to Downtown Disney!

Updates on Animal Kingdom’s “Rivers of Light” and Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris

New details released about “Rivers of Light” and Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris. First up is “Rivers of Light”, The new show will take place on Discovery River at Animal Kingdom. The show will combine quite a few different elements of entertainment. There will be live performers, water screens, and floating lanterns just to name a few.

“This is going to be a ceremonial event that will happen on our lake,” said Imagineer Joe Rohde. “It takes the idea of the special nature of the animals that are in this park and turns it into a celebration of the beauty of these animals. It starts simply and humbly, continues to unfold and grow as bigger and more elaborate lanterns appear, and then huge curtains of water and light emerge from the water with animals within them. And ultimately it takes off into the sky.”

Next up is the one I am looking more forward to, Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris. This is a new exciting addition to the Animal Kingdom. This will allow you to go on the safari but at night. There is a twist, you get to enjoy the savanna while basking in the orange glow of the setting sun.  Bonus, in case you are not sold yet on the nighttime safari, if you do it you will get to see African wild dogs and hyenas.

I should point out that this in only available to Animal Kingdom Lodge guests.  You will have use night vision goggles. The safari departs around 10:00pm. It is limited to 10 Guests and can be reserved up to 180 days in advance (subject to availability). Price is US $70 per person (plus tax). A portion of the tour price is donated to the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund. The safari can only be booked by the itinerary planning office or Concierge at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is offered daily and check in is at the podium to Sanaa restaurant in Kidani Village at 9:45pm.

Awesome right?

Top 5 Places to Have Lunch at the Monorail Resorts

capt

Following up on the Top 5 places for breakfast along the monorail, let’s move on to lunch! When the high noon heat is at its worst, it is a great idea to hop on the monorail and try one of these great places for a delicious lunch. A quick ride to one of the 3 monorail resorts will offer you plenty of options for all appetites! These restaurants are easy to get to from the Magic Kingdom and will leave you with plenty of time to hop right back on the monorail and get back to the park in time for the afternoon Festival of Fantasy Parade! This is a list of my top 5 options for lunch along the monorail loop.

5. Captain Cook’s : Ok, so I may be going out on a limb here suggesting a quick service spot in a top 5, however, in my opinion there is no better place to relax than at the Polynesian Village Resort. As soon as you step off the monorail, you will feel like you are worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom. The tranquil, tropical setting instantly puts you in a great mood and just downstairs from the monorail station is Captain Cook’s. This place may surprise you with the variety of lunch options available! Items like Thai Coconut Meatballs over Rice, Pulled Pork Nachos and the Big Kahuna Sandwich are all amazing (yes, I have had almost everything on this menu!). Eat inside the air conditioned dining area or take your meal outside and sit under the palm trees overlooking Volcano Pool. you can even head to the beach and eat your sandwich in a hammock while swaying in the breeze! Have I mentioned that I love the Polynesian Village Resort? Adult beverages are also available and the kids menu is fantastic!

4.The Wave:   Located inside the Contemporary Resort, this fresh and casual lunch spot is only one stop away from the Magic Kingdom! Select from a range of robust sandwiches like the classic Reuben, fresh salads including the Mediterranean tuna, curry vegetarian stew and more.  Make sure you try the Crème Brulee for Dessert!

3.Grand Floridian Café:  The grand lobby of the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa invites you to enjoy lunch at this charming restaurant. Start of with some refreshing Chilled Shrimp and Avacodo then move on to choices like Original Cobb Salad, Rustic Chicken Sandwich or a little more adventurous like a Falafel Burger! Enjoy views of the Rose Garden while sipping a Grand Colada or sparkling wine!

2.Kona Café: This hidden gem is located steps off the monorail station inside the Lobby of the Polynesian Village Resort. The tropical ambiance surrounds you as you dine on South Seas inspired fare. Choices like Asian Noodle Bowls, Kona Surf And Turf Burger, and Grilled Steak Salad offer something for everyone. Cocktails are available as well!

1. Chef Mickey’s: Most People will agree that the best place for lunch along the monorail loop is Chef Mickey’s. Located inside the Contemporary Resort, this character restaurant just recently opened up availability for ‘brunch’. Brunch hours are 11:30 am-2:30pm so I have included it in our ‘Lunch” list! Enjoy a buffet of Classic Caesar Salads, BBQ ribs, frittatas and more while visiting with Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, and Minnie Mouse! This is a favorite among Disney -goers of all ages, it is fun and bright and the food will not disappoint! Advanced reservations are required as this is a spot that fills up very quickly!

I hope that while you are planning your trip to Walt Disney World, you and your World of Magic Travel Agent consider some of these stops along the monorail for a great dining option! They are an easy way to get out of the heat and still be able to get right back in to the park for more fun! I would love to help you plan your next visit to Walt Disney World! Flying Fish Cafe at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort Will Close for Refurbishment Next Year

P1170314

FF

The Flying Fish Cafe at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort will close for quite a big refurbishment in 2016. It will shut down Feb 1, 2016 until Nov 12, 2016. So if you want to go then make your way there before Feb!

This spot has not been to popular as far as I know. I think they are hoping this will drive more traffic to it. Since it is close to some very popular restaurants like Beaches & Cream. Not to mention it is also pretty expensive. It is said the theme will pretty much stay the same. They are getting a new kitchen which means now they can make food that they could not offer before. The dining room will get some fresh paint and maybe a new floor. They are keeping the open kitchen design!

Flying Fish has had some pretty cool dining events in the past like, Dine with an Imagineer and The  Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner, both are expected to return.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust
