Disney Channel Sets Date For Halloween DCOM Invisible Sister!

The upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “Invisible Sister,” starring Rowan Blanchard (of Disney Channel’s Emmy-nominated hit series “Girl Meets World”) and Paris Berelc (of Disney XD’s “Mighty Med”), is set to premiere FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel as part of “Monstober,” Disney Channel’s month-long Halloween-themed programming event.

The live-action adventure/comedy continues the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy in spotlighting empowering themes for kids and tweens, including the importance of self-discovery, expressing yourself and embracing your individuality. In Total Viewers, six of the top seven movies in cable TV history are Disney Channel Original Movies. Disney Channel has also delivered TV’s #1 original movie telecast among Tweens for 14 consecutive years (2002-15).

Set in New Orleans during Halloween, “Invisible Sister” follows Cleo (Blanchard), an introverted young science prodigy whose class project accidentally turns her popular older sister and the school’s star lacrosse player, Molly (Berelc), invisible. Cleo, who has become accustomed to living in Molly’s shadow, is forced to step outside her comfort zone and into the shoes of her older sister to take her place on the day of an important game. As the sisters try to convince their friends, teachers and Molly’s lacrosse team that nothing is wrong, they must rely on each other like never before, and in doing so, they gain a better understanding of one another and themselves. Meanwhile, they are up against the clock to find an antidote to reverse the effects of Cleo’s experiment before Molly’s invisibility becomes permanent.

“Invisible Sister” also stars Karan Brar (“BUNK’D,” “Jessie“) as Cleo’s quirky best buddy and fellow science enthusiast, George; Rachel Crow (“X Factor”) as Molly’s outgoing best friend and teammate, Nikki; Will Meyers (“Bella and the Bulldogs”) as Cleo’s crush and science scholar, Carter; Austin Fryberger (“Kirby Buckets”) as Molly’s goofy but affable boyfriend, The Coug; and Alex Désert (“The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”) as the high school science teacher, Mr. Perkins.

“Invisible Sister” is directed and executive-produced by DGA Award-winner Paul Hoen (“How to Build a Better Boy,” “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”). Susan Cartsonis (“The Duff,” “No Reservations”) is also an executive producer. The script was written by Jessica O’Toole & Amy Rardin (“Greek,” “The Carrie Diaries”), and Matt Eddy & Billy Eddy (“Teen Beach 2,” “Bad Hair Day”), and inspired by the book My Invisible Sister by Beatrice Colin and Sara Pinto.

What you NEED to know about Hurricane Season at Walt Disney World

1501110637 054b3de02d1

1501110637_054b3de02d

If you plan to be in the Walt Disney World area between August and early November you are in prime hurricane season.  Hurricanes, tropical storms, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms are always possibility, but more likely in the fall.

What if it’s SO bad we have to Cancel?
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may call in advance to reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Magic Your Way vacation package and most room only reservations without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.

If you have products and services provided by third-party suppliers included in your vacation—such as airlines, hotels, car rental agencies—you will continue to be responsible for any non-refundable payments, as well as cancellation or change fees assessed by those suppliers.

This policy also applies to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort in the event a hurricane warning is issued for those destinations.

Can we still go to the Parks?

Disney World has only closed down completely a few times in history, so plan to wear ponchos and brave the rain and flooded paths. Flip flops, Crocs, or other waterproof shoes are a must! Pack cheap, disposable $1 poncho for each person, for each day of your stay, or bring a nice reusable one. I suggest bringing dry clothes and keeping them in a locker just in case.

Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom are the best Parks in the rain. They both have many indoor attractions and queues that you can run to. A waterproof stroller cover should be used whenever you park it in an uncovered area. Ponchos or shower curtain work well.

What should we do in an emergency?

  • Keep an eye on the weather at all times. Check the Weather Channel on your resort tv as you get ready. If you have a smart phone, you may want to search for a weather app that will alert you if there are severe warnings or watches for the WDW area.
  • Packing a small weather radio, preferably a solar-powered one, isn’t a bad idea.
  • If you are at the resort when a severe hurricane or tornado warning hits, stay in the bathroom. It is the most interior, window free, and fortified place to be.
  • If you are in the parks, ask a cast member where to go. Take your family to the most interior space of the nearest building and stay indoors until the cast members direct you otherwise.
  • My best advice for fall travelers is to add trip insurance to your package NOW so that if the worst happens, you won’t lose all your money. It’s only $77.50 per adult and kids are free.

Despite the unpredictable fall weather in Florida, it’s STILL my favorite time of year to go! In fact I will be there in a few weeks! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, Free Dining and low crowds are just a few reasons to go in autumn. Contact me today to see how much it would cost YOUR family to visit next year at this time. I will work within your budget and offer tips and advice for a stress free vacation! Email me at [email protected] or on my Facebook Page HERE.

Be prepared and stay aware! Your vacation will still be magical even if it rains!

Khan Academy launches Pixar in a Box, a behind the scenes look at Pixar Animation Studios

Khan academy
Khan academy

Khan academy

Pixar in a Box is a new online resource that explores the academic concepts behind Pixar Animation Studios’ creative process – goes live on KhanAcademy.org. Through a series of video lessons, interactive exercises, and hands-on activities, students will discover how the academic concepts they learn in school enable Pixar filmmakers to create new worlds, animate unique characters and tell stories through animation. Although designed especially for students in middle and high school, these resources are available to learners of all ages, completely free of charge.

“Our mission at Khan Academy is a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere,” said Sal Khan, Founder and CEO of the not-for-profit Khan Academy. “Sparking student interest in math and other academic fields is a key part of that, and we’re delighted to collaborate with Pixar to achieve this goal. Pixar in a Box gives students a new way to engage with key academic concepts and see how creative these concepts can be.”

“Learning makes us beginners again,” said Ed Catmull, President of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios. “In my experience, creativity involves missteps and imperfections, which is one more reason it is important for every one of us to keep learning – in order to remain flexible and keep our brains nimble. By working with Khan Academy on Pixar in a Box, we hope to encourage the excitement of learning and creative thinking for middle and high school students and to provide the tools to do it.”

“For years, we’ve heard from teachers at every grade level interested in creating animation-based curricula,” said Elyse Klaidman, Director, Pixar University and Archives. “We’ve wanted to provide free online resources for them, and Pixar in a Box makes that dream a reality. We hope that it not only gives students a behind-the-scenes look at how our movies are made but also gets them excited about STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) concepts.”

Khan and Catmull officially unveiled Pixar in a Box at a special event yesterday evening on the Pixar campus in Emeryville, CA. After an introduction from Klaidman, local educators learned the story behind the project and then received a live demonstration of Pixar in a Box from two of its creators – Brit Cruise, Content Producer at Khan Academy, and Tony DeRose, Senior Scientist and Research Group Lead at Pixar. The evening concluded with a question-and-answer session moderated by Klaidman.

“Many students start to lose interest in academics in middle and high school, partly because they don’t see how academic concepts relate to things they care about,” said DeRose. “Pixar in a Box aims to address this disconnect by showing how Pixar filmmakers use these concepts for creative benefit in their everyday work.”

Students can access Pixar in a Box and learn:

● How combinatorics are used to create crowds, like the swarm of robots in WALL-E.

● How parabolas are used to model environments, like the forest in Brave.

● How weighted averages are used to create characters, like Buzz Lightyear and Woody.

● How linear and cubic interpolation are used to animate characters.

● How trigonometry is used to create the worlds in which Pixar stories take place.

● How simultaneous equations are used to paint all of Pixar’s images.

“These lessons are the first phase of the project,” said Cruise. “While the first year focuses on math, future Pixar in a Box lessons will explore science, computer science, arts, and humanities.”

All Pixar in a Box resources are available free of charge at PixarInABox.org.

Best Breakfasts at the Disneyland Resort

Carnation Cafe breakfast
Carnation Cafe breakfast

Carnation Cafe breakfast

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is definitely true when you’re getting ready to conquer the Disneyland Resort! Whether you prefer a character meal to start the day or just a great place to grab a bite, I’ve put together the best breakfasts at Disneyland for you.

For character breakfasts, check out Goofy’s Kitchen or the PCH Grill. Goofy’s Kitchen is located at the Disneyland Hotel and is a favorite of most guests. There is a breakfast buffet with 5 different stations to choose from including Mickey Mouse waffles and pancakes. And don’t forget to try Goofy’s specialty-peanut butter and jelly pizza! Characters vary but you’ll get to see many favorite Disney friends at this breakfast.

Surfs_Up_Breakfast

The PCH Grill is located at the Paradise Pier resort and features the Surfs Up! Breakfast with Mickey and Friends. It’s also a buffet and there is an omelet station, Mickey waffles and a delicious banana-caramel French toast! You’ll enjoy a great breakfast while visiting with some cool Disney friends.

For non-character dining, you’ll find some delicious eats inside both parks:

At River Belle Terrace in Disneyland you’ll have a great view of the Rivers of America as you enjoy your biscuits and gravy. Or help yourself to a delicious Mickey pancake while you watch for the Mark Twain Riverboat to pass by. But the best breakfast option at the River Bell Terrace is the cinnamon roll French toast! It comes with scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage and is to die for!

carnation-cafe_alt

Another great breakfast spot in Disneyland is the Carnation Café. There is a charming patio area as well as indoor seating. You may even get to meet Disney legend, Chef Oscar while you are there. Along with the classic Mickey waffles, be sure to try the apple-granola pancakes. Delicious!

Flo's Tamale Breakfast

For a unique breakfast experience, head to Flo’s V-8 Café in Disney California Adventure. Flo’s is an American Southwest diner where you can get comfort food with a little twist. One of those foods is the tasty chicken tamale breakfast. You won’t find that anywhere else! Another delicious option at Flo’s is the brioche French toast. It’s served with salted caramel sauce and bananas and will give you a great jolt of sugar to start your day!

Eating at the Disneyland Resort is just as much a part of the theme park experience as going on the rides and viewing the shows. Make sure you start your day off right with a delicious Disney breakfast!

What’s your favorite (edible) way to start your day at the Disneyland Resort? Let me know in the comments! Also, for help planning your next magical Disney adventure, email me here.

One of the most successful film franchises of all time will soon become one of Universal Studios Florida’s most action-packed ride experiences. Universal Orlando Resort announced today that Fast & Furious: Supercharged will join its incredible lineup of attractions in 2017.

Guests will experience a high-octane journey that fuses an original storyline and incredible ride technology with everything that fans love about the films—popular characters, exhilarating environments, nonstop action and, of course, high-speed cars.

Led by film stars Vin Diesel (Dom Toretto), Dwayne Johnson (Hobbs), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) and Tyrese Gibson (Roman), guests will feel like part of the “Fast family” as they embark on a thrilling new Fast & Furious adventure. They will be immersed in the underground racing world made famous in the films, explore the headquarters of Toretto and his team and even get to check out some of the supercharged cars they’ve seen on the big screen. Then, guests will board specially designed vehicles and take off on an adrenaline-pumping ride with their favorite stars from the films.

Fast & Furious is Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing film franchise of all time. Since the release of the first film in 2001, the Fast & Furious series has become a cultural phenomenon. Together, all seven installments have grossed nearly $3.9 billion at the worldwide box office. The most recent film, Furious 7, was released in April and became the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time, with more than $1.5 billion in global box office. In addition, Universal Studios Hollywood introduced its own Fast & Furious—Supercharged this summer, which serves as the grand finale to its world famous Studio Tour.

Fast & Furious: Supercharged will replace Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue and Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You! at Universal Studios Florida. Disaster will close on September 8, 2015 and Beetlejuice will close later this year to make way for the new attraction.
