Holiday Celebration at Universal Orlando: December 5, 2015–January 2, 2016

Universal Holidays

Universal Holidays

We haven’t even had Halloween yet, and I know what you are thinking “why are we talking about the Christmas holiday season in October?” Well that’s what I’m thinking, and I’m the one writing this! However, it’s NEVER to early to plan a magical vacation to celebrate the Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday with your family, and what better place than Universal Orlando.

At Universal Studios, the celebration of Christmas fills the streets with floats you may remember from your childhood in the Macy’s Holiday Parade.

Oh but that’s not all you’ll have the chance to enjoy live performances by the award-winning Mannheim Steamroller, but plan ahead because they are only on select nights of December 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20.

Any fans of THE GRINCH out there? Well it’s not Christmas until you meet the Grinch! At Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing transforms into the whimsical world of Grinchmas. Have a chance to meet the main man himself too! You are bound to have fun with this “Who-liday” spectacular, and maybe your heart will grow two sizes bigger too!

Want the chance to get up close and personal with your favorite Dr. Seuss characters? How about starting your day with “The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast”in Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous which is a cute circus themed restaurant with strange creatures performing acrobats twirls high overhead.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast hosted by the master of mischief from Mt. Crumpit himself, The Grinch. This is an amazing way to start of your holiday’s at Universal Orlando, but don’t forget “Thing 1 & Thing 2!”

  • **Tickets and reservations are required to attend so make sure you book ahead of time.

Now let’s talk about a few other shows that also have a little holiday spin to them. First up BARNEY! I know parents of children from the 90’s enjoyed many many shows from this lovable dino, and I personally loved the Christmas specials. Well now he has his own holiday show located inside Universal Studios Florida.

A Barney™ Holiday

  • Join Barney™ and his friends for a magical musical show full of songs at “A Day In The Park With Barney™!”

Attention all adults that LOVE the blues! I have a show for you with a holiday spin too. Who’s a fan of “The Blues Brothers?” I thought so! Well you guessed it they have their own show located inside Universal Studios Florida on Delancey Street. So grab your sunglasses and get ready to rock & roll!

The Blues Brothers® Holiday Show

  • Jake and Elwood perform festive favorites like “Santa Claus is Coming To Town,” “Blue Christmas,” and more with snow oat the end of each show.

Even The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has a little something extra for the colder holiday season. Are you a fan of Butterbeer? How about HOT Butterbeer? Well I have some good news for you, Universal Orlando had decided to permanently add HOT butterbeer to go along with the ever popular FROZEN and COLD versions currently being served at several locations within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Don’t forget they also have butterbeer-flavored ice cream in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley.

Holiday Celebration at Universal Orlando: December 5, 2015–January 2, 2016
Don’t let the fun end in the parks, stay in the heart of the holiday magic at one of Universal Orlando’s spectacular on-site hotels, and with the exclusive theme park benefits that on-site hotel guests enjoy. It’s sure to make your visit a merry one. More great news for LEGOLAND fans! Merlin Entertainments is partnering with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group to bring a new 4D animated film featuring all of your favorite characters  to guests at LEGOLAND® Parks and LEGOLAND® Discovery Centers around the world starting in January 2016!

“The LEGO® Movie™ 4D A New Adventure” is premiering at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort on Jan. 29, 2016, followed by LEGOLAND® California Resort on Feb. 6. Shortly after, guests at the 11 LEGOLAND® Discovery Centers in North America, Asia and Europe will get to experience this thrilling new adventure.

Written by Adam Pava (writer of “The Boxtrolls”) and co-written and directed by Rob Schrab (director of the sequel to “The LEGO Movie” debuting in 2018) “The LEGO Movie 4D A New Adventure” is bringing back some of the original voices including Elizabeth Banks (Wyldstyle), Alison Brie (Unikitty), Nick Offerman (MetalBeard) and Charlie Day (Benny) and will introduce a new villain, “Risky Business,” voiced by Patton Oswalt.

Sheriff Callie’s Wild West: Howdy Partner DVD Review

Sheriff Callie Wild West Review
Sheriff Callie Wild West Review

Sheriff Callie Wild West Review

One of Disney Junior’s newest original programming shows as taken over like a spaghetti twister on a calm afternoon, Sheriff Callie’s Wild West. This is an adorable show about how the west was fun, and now 5 fun filled double episodes are available to own on DVD!

Sheriff Callie Wild West 1

We giddy upped for fun when this showed up at our door step to review! My little guy always loved getting to check out the newest Disney Junior DVDs, but this one sent him into YEE-HAWs and horsey gallops around the house!! He was especially excited when I rolled out a wild west themed dinner to celebrate with, but we’ll talk more about that later. After slinging back our Howdy Partner grub, we saddled up on the couch for some Sheriff Callie excitement. There’s always some sort of silly predicament the residents of Nice and Friendly Corners are finding themselves in, but I love that it’s always handled with encouragement and compassion. Even when some pesky ol’ blue jays leave the town in a bind, Sheriff Callie and the gang take the time to show them a better way, which helps build valuable lessons for our little Disney Junior watchers to grow with. My little guy’s favorite episode was “The Pie Thief”. Priscilla gets more than she bargains for when she can’t wait to try everyone’s delicious fresh baked pies, and she has to figure out how to rescue the town after she cries wolf, or bandit! The singing chipmunks are always around to provide a few giggles with their clever songs that add a bit of narration to the stories. We had a fun Wild Western night, and this DVD will definitely be tucked into the collection of DVD favorites nestled next to the TV.

Episodes:

Sparky’s Lucky Day/Peck’s Bent Beak
Toby the Cowsitter/Callie’s Blue Jay Blues
The Pie Thief/Fool for Gold
Moustache Toby/Doc’s Cheatin’ Chili
Train Bandits/A Dirty Dusty Apology

Synopsis:

Welcome to “Nice and Friendly Corners,” where lovable Calico cat Sheriff Callie (voiced by Mandy Moore), along with her deputy woodpecker Peck and their fun-loving cactus sidekick Toby, watch over their pleasant little frontier town, ensuring that everyone follows the “Cowpoke Code” of fairness, honesty, hospitality, cooperation and hard work. Utilizing the folklore of the Old West to impart lessons about good morals, manners and social ethics for kids age 2-7, “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West” is the perfect mix of good ol’ friendship and laughter for your little one.

Sheriff Callie Wild West 3

One of the coolest things about Disney Junior DVDs is they usually come with a cute little bonus item. Sheriff Callie’s Wild West: Howdy Partner was no exception with a fun little pop up play set featuring popular faces from the town of Nice and Friendly Corners. The cute little stage was a fun addition to our movie night, and even lent to interaction with the characters and their matching pop up play set counterparts!

Sheriff Callie Wild West 4

It was very much an evening of fun and contentment and we can’t wait for our next wild west night! Later I’ll be posting about some of the fun themed foods and decorations we had, so stay tuned!

As fan fervor for Disney’s “Descendants” grows around the world, a sequel script has been commissioned from the movie’s screenwriters Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon who will also serve as executive producers on the project, “Descendants 2” (working title), it was announced today by Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.  “Descendants” is cable television’s fifth highest-rated movie of all-time.

Marsh said, “By almost every measure – domestically and globally – ‘Descendants’ has already become one of the biggest entertainment properties of the year and we’re eager to delve deeper into the unfolding mythology of Auradon and Isle of the Lost.  This kind of compelling, innovative storytelling, alongside our animated ‘Descendants: Wicked World’ shorts and unique transmedia campaign, continues to lay the groundwork for multiple franchise opportunities across virtually every line of business at The Walt Disney Company.”

Descendants

On Saturday, October 17, the stars of Disney’s “Descendants” including Dove Cameron (Disney Channel’s “Liv and Maddie”), Cameron Boyce (Disney XD’s “Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything,” Disney Channel’s “Jessie”), Booboo Stewart (“X-Men Days of Future Past”) and Sofia Carson, and Kenny Ortega will celebrate with fans during an on-stage, music and dance-filled event at Downtown Disney District, Disneyland Resort, in Anaheim, California.

The July 31 premiere of “Descendants,” a Disney Channel Original Movie directed, choreographed and executive-produced by Kenny Ortega (“High School Musical”), and executive-produced by Wendy Japhet (“An Education”, “The Italian Job”), delivered over 12.2 million (L+7) Total Viewers in the U.S., including 3.1 million Adults 18-49, making it the #1 cable TV movie in nearly three years in that demographic.  It also broke viewing records on the WATCH Disney Channel app where it has posted 3.3 million video views since July 24.

Around the world, “Descendants” has now reached over 32 million total viewers including 1.2 million on Disney Channel UK where it was the #1 telecast in six years (against all kids channels) among Kids, Girls and Tween Girls 8-12.  On Disney Channel Italy, it ranks as the highest rated Disney Channel Original Movie ever among Girls 4-14. In Australia, it was Disney Channel’s highest rated program among Kids 5-15 since 2010.  On Disney Channels in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile, “Descendants” ranked #1 against all free TV and cable TV among Kids 4-11 and Kids 4-17.  In Brazil, it ranked #1 of all cable TV networks among Kids 4-11 and Kids 4-17.

Also announced today, Melissa de la Cruz will write a second novel as part of the ongoing “Descendants” publishing program.  “Return to the Isle of the Lost” will publish in May 2016. The prequel novel, “The Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel” by Melissa de la Cruz, hit #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List (Children’s Middle Grade) for 13 of the past 22 weeks on the list. In total, four “Descendants” books from Disney Publishing Worldwide have been on the New York Times Best Seller List for a combined 41 weeks.

The trans-media content includes an animated short-form series, “Descendants: Wicked World,” set in the Auradon and Isle of the Lost worlds, which debuted last month on Disney Channel (reaching 5.9 million Total Viewers), WATCH Disney Channel (1.7 million views), and YouTube (over 10 million views, to-date).

A “Descendants” mobile game from Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media will launch in November.  A “Descendants” Karaoke App released July 30 and reached #1 in the Kids 9-11 category in four countries including the U.S.

The “Descendants” soundtrack entered the Billboard 200 at #1 and six music videos of its musical numbers plus its end-credit song “Believe” by Shawn Mendes and a “Rotten to the Core” remix by Sofia Carson, have delivered over 254 million views on DisneyMusicVevo.  The movie has also inspired creative fan art, fan fiction, fan song covers and fan dance videos.

The “Descendants” DVD released on July 31 and is the #1 TV movie and the third best-selling TV title on DVD, 2015 to-date.

Disney Consumer Products’ retailers include Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Amazon and Disney Store. The licensed line includes fashion dolls, apparel, accessories, role play/costumes, bedding, DIY beauty products and consumer electronics.  Licensees are Hasbro, Jaya, Mad Engine, Innovative Designs, Markwins, KIDdesigns, among others, and new products are rolling out through 2016.

Disney’s “Descendants,” a modern-day coming-of-age adventure about the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains, is a live-action, music-filled, dragon-sized adventure starring Dove Cameron as Mal, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Sofia Carson as Evie, Mitchell Hope as Ben, Tony Award-winning Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent, Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cruella de Vil, Maz Jobrani as Jafar, Kathy Najimy as the Evil Queen, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, Brenna D’Amico as Jane, Sarah Jeffery as Audrey, Zachary Gibson as Doug, Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming, and Dianne Doan as Lonnie.

In the U.S., Disney Channel holds the record of presenting six of the Top 7 original cable movies ever (“High School Musical 2,” “Teen Beach Movie,” “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,” “Descendants,” “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension” and “Camp Rock”).

Top 5 Tips For First Time Disney Vacationers

CP Pooh
CP Pooh

CP Pooh

So you’ve decided to take your first trip to Disney World? Let me be the first to congratulate you on one of the smartest decisions you’ll ever make – vacationing at Walt Disney World is an amazing experience, and since it’s your first time, let me give you some tips on how to navigate the World (the DISNEY World that is!):

Research (but don’t overdo it!): There’s a LOT of information out there about the ins and outs of Walt Disney World – books, websites, web forums/discussion boards, DVD’s/planning videos – and a lot of it is really great and provides useful, helpful information about what you can expect when you arrive. Personally I like to purchase one new guidebook, and then stick to reputable planning websites (like Chip And Co!), and I try and stay away from forums or long lengthy reviews – and you should too, you’re looking to mostly get an overview of what rides/attractions and restaurants your family might like. Bottom line – do your research, but keep it basic

Pack Smart: No need to worry about dressing fancy at Walt Disney World – it’s a casual place, where jeans/shorts, t shirts, and sneakers are what you’ll see most people sporting – make sure you keep it loose and comfortable, as you’re going to be doing a lot of walking in a place that’s can get REALLY hot! I pick my broken in sneakers over the new ones, and I also like to bring along a hat, as well as sunscreen, water bottles and snacks (a great money saver!), and ponchos – for that unpredictable Florida weather. Read more on how to pack smart here

Be Realistic: This goes along with the “Don’t Over-Research” advice, in that planning is all well and good, but if you get caught up in research then you might start trying to plan every minute of every day – and that’s just not going to work out. There are a TON of things to do at Walt Disney World – so many that you could be there a whole week and not do them all – it’s just the way it is, make your peace with it now, and pick out a few “must-do” things and make sure you get fastpasses for them, and aside from planning which Parks to visit on which days, keep your itinerary loose and open for changes – that way you won’t be super stressed trying to run around and do it all – because who wants to be stressed – you’re on VACATION, after all!

Expand Your Culinary Horizons: Most of you have probably been to different Theme Parks before, so you might think you know what to expect when it comes to Dining at Disney – burgers, chicken fingers, fried snacks, ice cream, etc are what normally comes to mind for most people. While Disney offers all that, there is SO MUCH MORE to eat there than standard theme park/carnival fare. Sushi, steakhouses, fudge, amazing fresh baked goods, foods from around the world (like Germany, England, Morocco, and more!), sandwiches, snacks (popcorn, cookies, pretzels & ice cream bars shaped like Mickey)….I could go on and on – but the point is, there’s a LOT to offer, and it’s the perfect chance to try something new! One thing to note: Sit-down restaurants at WDW tend to fill up quickly, so when you do your research, make sure you pick out some possibilities and make your Advance Dining Reservations before your trip

Do At Least One Character Meal: Character Meals are the perfect way to enjoy a great meal while getting to mix and mingle with some great Disney characters. There are a bunch to choose from, but if you’ve never been, you might want to try Chef Mickey’s – where you can meet the “fab five” all in one place – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. Or if you have a Princess lover in your party, Cinderella’s Royal Table is the perfect spot to enjoy a royal meal with the Disney Princesses – plus, you get to dine INSIDE Cinderella’s Castle! A drawback to character meals is that they aren’t exactly quiet, relaxed dining experiences – it can get loud, rambunctious, and rowdy – but to me, that’s part of the fun! I highly recommend everyone try at least one character meal on their first trip – it will make for some great memories!

Hopefully you can take some of these tips and use them as you embark on your first WDW vacation – take it from me, these are worth looking into, and if you do – you’ll be an expert in no time!
