Magic Kingdom’s Express Monorail Line closed this weekend

If you’ll be using the monorail at Walt Disney World this weekend there are some closures you’ll need to know about and plan around accordingly.

On both March 18 and 19 2016, the Express Beam will close from 11:30am to 6pm.

The Express Beam serves the Magic Kingdom and Transportation and Ticket Center. During the closure, ferry boat and bus service will be available.

Seaworld Announces this is last generation of Orcas in its care

SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc, a leading theme park and entertainment company, today announced that the killer whales – or orcas – currently in the company’s care will be the last generation of orcas at SeaWorld. The company will end all orca breeding as of today.

SeaWorld also will introduce new, inspiring, natural orca encounters, rather than theatrical shows, as part of its ongoing commitment to education, marine science research, and rescue of marine animals. These programs will focus on orca enrichment, exercise, and overall health. This change will start in its San Diego park next year, followed by San Antonio and then Orlando in 2019.

SeaWorld also announced today a broad new partnership with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to protect our oceans and the animals that call them home. The company is committing to educating its more than 20 million annual visitors on animal welfare and conservation issues through interpretative programs at the parks and expanded advocacy for wild whales, seals, and other marine creatures.

“SeaWorld has introduced more than 400 million guests to orcas, and we are proud of our part in contributing to the human understanding of these animals,” said Joel Manby, President and Chief Executive Officer of SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. “As society’s understanding of orcas continues to change, SeaWorld is changing with it. By making this the last generation of orcas in our care and reimagining how guests will encounter these beautiful animals, we are fulfilling our mission of providing visitors to our parks with experiences that matter.”

“SeaWorld’s commitment to end breeding of orcas is a long-held goal of many animal advocacy organizations, and we commend the company for making this game-changing commitment,” said Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of HSUS. “Today we turn a corner, working together to achieve solutions on a wide set of animal issues including sunsetting the use of orcas at existing facilities; maximizing SeaWorld’s focus on rescue, rehabilitation and advocacy for marine mammals in the wild; and sourcing food for animals and customers from humane and sustainable sources, including cage-free eggs and crate-free pork.”

“We are pleased to join with HSUS on the significant issues facing marine mammals and their ocean homes,” said Manby. “The work done by zoological facilities like SeaWorld is critical for the protection of animals in the wild, especially marine mammals. To that end, SeaWorld has committed $50 million over the next five years to be the world’s leading marine animal rescue organization, to advocate for an end to the commercial killing of whales and seals and an end to shark finning.”

The current population of orcas at SeaWorld – including one orca, Takara, that became pregnant last year – will live out their lives at the company’s park habitats, where they will continue to receive the highest-quality care based on the latest advances in marine veterinary medicine, science, and zoological best practices. Guests will be able to observe these orcas through the new educational encounters and in viewing areas within the existing habitats.

SeaWorld reaffirms its commitment not to collect marine mammals from the wild. It has not collected an orca from the wild in nearly 40 years, and the orcas at SeaWorld were either born there or have spent almost their entire lives in human care. These orcas could not survive in oceans that include environmental concerns such as pollution and other man-made threats.

Spring is Heating Up at Walt Disney World

The calendar tells us Spring is just around the corner and, while that normally means warmer weather and the end of winter, this year at Walt Disney World, it means a lot more! Spring is heating up in Orlando with lots of new events, experiences, and entertainment options for guests at the most magical place on Earth.

The annual Epcot Flower and Garden Show is sure to delight visitors of all ages. The incredible character topiaries and interactive playgrounds will amaze the kids while adults can take advantage of 13 different outdoor kitchens offering seasonal food and drinks. Every weekend through the end of the Flower and Garden Show, the blooms will be rocking as Epcot welcomes special musical guests like the Gin Blossoms, Night Ranger and the Village People for the Garden Rocks Concert series included with your park admission. The Epcot Flower and Garden Show runs through May 30th, you can see a walk through of menus and food booths here.

After you’ve taken in the sights of Epcot, you can enjoy the newest nighttime offering at Walt Disney World, River of Lights at Animal Kingdom. Opening on April 22nd, this long awaited show takes place on Discovery River between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest. When the show begins, two mystical storytellers come to the river to summon animal spirits. Riding elaborate lantern vessels, the storytellers will wake the animals through a dramatic dance of water and light. The Tree of Life will also be part of the show with magical fireflies transforming Animal Kingdom’s iconic tree into a glowing beacon of wonder and enchantment. From the brief glimpses we have had into River of Lights, this is sure to be an amazing experience. A new sunset version of the popular Kilimanjaro Safari ride will also begin wowing guests on April 22nd. While details are limited, the ride is expected to give visitors a glimpse of life on the savanna like we have never seen before at Animal Kingdom!

Hollywood Studios is also offering up exciting new experiences for visitors from a galaxy far, far away! Beginning on April 4th, the new live Star Wars entertainment experience Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away will take place on the several times each day on the Center State in front of the Chinese Theater. According to sources, the show will “play out iconic moments from the film saga … and will feature appearances from Star Wars characters like Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Darth Maul.” The March of the First Order Stormtrooper procession led by Captain Phasma will also thrill fans starting April 4th. This event features Captain Phasma, from Star Wars The Force Awakens, leading a platoon of First Order Stormtroopers on a march from the park’s Star Wars Launch Bay to Center Stage several times each day.

These new Star Wars offerings at Hollywood Studios will join existing experiences and rides like Star Tours — The Adventures Continue and Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. Visitors to Hollywood Studios will also have the chance to meet familiar characters like Chewbacca and Kylo Ren for photos and autographs, if you dare ask for one! The Star Wars character meet and greets are located in the Star Wars Launch Bay, which also offers an up-close look at replica props, models and costumes from the movies. A Spring day at Hollywood Studios filled with Star Wars adventure can be capped off with the nightly Star Wars themed fireworks show Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular.

If all the adventures at Hollywood Studios wore you out, you might want to take a break from the parks and check out all the new options at Disney Springs. The area formerly known as Downtown Disney is scheduled to begin opening in phases beginning May 15th. The dining and shopping district will feature four distinct neighborhoods to explore and, all told, will feature more than 150 different stores and restaurants. Restaurants scheduled to open soon include The Edison, an “industrial gothic”-style restaurant with themed areas and a performance space, celebrity Chef Rick Bayless‘ Frontera Fresca featuring authentic Mexican cuisine, and Homecoming: Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine, a farm to table restaurant highlighting the sunshine state’s cuisine. New stores on tap for Disney Springs include Lilly Pulitzer, Pandora, Tommy Bahama, and Zara. And don’t forget, if you are staying at a Disney resort, your purchases in Disney Springs can be sent directly to your hotel!

Another exciting event happening this Spring will bring athletes from around the world to Walt Disney World! The Invictus Games will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports May 8 – 12. The event brings together wounded servicemen and women from around the world and allows them to compete against one another in a variety of sporting events. In it’s inaugural year in London in 2014, the event had more than 400 athletes and 65,000 fans. This year’s games will be the first time the event has taken place in the United States and is expected to draw similar numbers. Prince Harry is the leading sponsor of the Invictus Games and he has said the event uses the power of sports to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country. It should be a very inspiring week!

Disney is closer to finding a young Han Solo

In January, a short list was released for actors in consideration to play young Han Solo in the upcoming 2018 Star Wars anthology movie about Han Solo’s life prior to what we see in “A New Hope.” The actors on that short list were Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner.

Last week, screen tests to find the actor to play the iconic role of Han Solo were conducted in London, according to the Hollywood Reporter narrowing down to a final shortlist of three actors: Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman).

The film will be directed Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street), with a set release date for May 25, 2018.

With Han Solo being such an icon in pop culture and dearly beloved by Star Wars fans worldwide, whichever actor is chosen will definitely have some big shoes to fill. Since we have seen a younger Harrison Ford play Han Solo in Episodes IV through VI, it will definitely be quite an adjustment to see a different actor take on the role, but exciting nonetheless!

Disney named a top dream company for 15 to 29 year olds

When 18,000 millennials (ages 15-29) were asked to rank their ideal future employers Walt Disney Company was ranked #2. Also ranked high up on the list were Facebook, Google, and Apple.

The survey shows the attitude towards work for the millennial, which by 2020 will make up 50% of the work force. It shows that they are looking for employers who put a lot of importance on employee welfare, who offer a flexible schedule and sense of purpose. The millennial generation is he group of people who had the recession shape them, with a crush of student debt and unreliable institutions they have had an unclear vision of stability. Contrary to the general belief that this generation is lazy and entitled, this generation is actually focusing on a rich full life for the right now, instead of preparing for the future.

Companies are now starting to accommodate the millennial wishes wanting the younger workers. The millennials are accepting these jobs not only because they feel their needs being met but also because it gives them the strong roots in innovation and philanthropy which gives them the sense of worth.

Blizzard Beach Closed 3/16-3/17 for technical diffculties

If you were planning on visiting Blizzard Beach today or tomorrow, it looks like you’ll have to take a trip over to Typhoon Lagoon instead!

Blizzard Beach is closed today and tomorrow (March 16 and 17 2016) due to technical difficulties.

No worries though, because although still technically in its refurbishment window.

Typhoon Lagoon is now open with hours of midday to 6pm on March 16, and 10am to 5pm on March 17th, 2016.

Luxury and sophistication come together at the B Resort & Spa

I had the pleasure last week to stay a few nights at the B Resort & Spa in Disney Springs. Having heard nothing but great things about the resort I was really looking forward to my visit.

Upon walking in your are greeted by a waterfall and one of a kind Proust chair. This chair goes for $14,000 so of course we all had to take selfies in it! (No worries it is encouraged to take photos in it)

The B Resort & Spa is tasteful both inside and out. The overall feel I get from staying here is a Miami/South Beach type vibe, they are from Fort Lauderdale so the theming fits. It is very trendy, clean, and bright.

In the lobby they even have their own B Resort Smell and I will tell you it smells wonderful. We hear they are trying to bottle the scent so you can take it home with you, and I for one would love a candle or air freshener with that smell in my car or home!

They have their own coffee bar and quick service restaurant called The Pickup. Here they serve the delicious Joffrey’s coffee and have all the little odds and ends you need for your hotel stay. We came down every morning for coffee before leaving for the parks.

In every room they have a Keurig so technically you don’t need to go down to the Pickup but the Disney Fashionista love our coffee so we would have a cup while we got ready, and then grab a cup while we waited on the bus to the parks.

The B Resort & Spa also has a great restaurant on the other side of the lobby called The American Kitchen Bar & Grill. They offer a filling all you can eat breakfast with all your favorites such as bacon, eggs, Mickey Waffles and more. I am on a diet and they even had healthier options such as Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and granola. I had to ask my server for Agave Nectar and was presently surprised they had it in the back. I did not have a chance to eat here for lunch or dinner but when we came back to our room around dinner time it smelled really good!

Before we head up to the rooms I have a few more areas to discuss. The B Resort & Spa also has an outdoor bar, a zero entry pool, a world famous Aveda Spa, and even a conference center. While we visited they had a wedding one night and a business convention another. The B Resort & Spa always is hopping, which I love!

While on tour of the Aveda Spa we saw this little gizmo. Only available at the B Resort & Spa at Disney Springs this little beauty will paint your nails with any design or even logo you upload. We were a little pressed for time so we didn’t have a chance to try it out but we were told a few other bloggers were able to get their logo done on their nails. The Disney Fashionista said forget Jamberry all you need is one of these!

Before heading upstairs we checked out the kids center. Kids can come down and chill while the parents are just outside at the pool or having a drink at the bar. All your favorite video game systems are available and they will even loan you an ipad. I am a little jealous as there is no adult play area or is there???

We stayed in a Junior Suite which had a pull out couch in one room and then a big king sized bed in another. We toured a regular double queen room as well. Both rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. The beds were super comfortable, the flat screen tv’s were perfect for the room size, and finally the shower we’re very cool. While there was no Disney in the room I was perfectly fine with that. When you go to the parks as much as we do when I come back to the room I just want to crash in a comfortable bed, turn up the AC and just relax. This place is perfect for that.

While we we’re at the B Resort & Spa we got a sneak peek at the all new Magical Moments Movie Theater room. When it opens this will be a great place to relax on your first night at the resort and watch a Disney Movie. It is expected to open in the next few months so stay tuned for more details.

I would say one of the coolest features (other than the outdoor lighting) at the B Resort & Spa was in the lobby, it’s called the Monscierge. Without having to wait in line to talk to someone, you can look up restaurants in the area, check the weather, check in for flights, and much more. Since the tour took place on our departure day I was able to check out the weather back home and check in for our flight. This is genius!

We loved staying at the B Resort & Spa, it is so close to Disney Springs, was super clean, and had all the extras we could have wanted in a hotel. Many people think if you stay at a Disney Springs Resort Area Hotel that you have a hard time getting to the parks, this could not be further from the truth. They all share a bus that goes to the parks and shows up pretty much at the top and bottom of every hour.

My only complaint is that the buses share parks. As you can see above, this bus went to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. I hope someday they expand the bus line to include 1 bus per park but for now it just extends your travel time by about 15 mins. Not a huge deal.

If you stay at any of the Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels remember there is no Disney’s Magical Express so you will want to do a towncar or do what we do and that is get a Mears Shuttle. It costs around $37 for a round trip ticket from MCO to any Disney Springs Resort Area Hotel. Many times you can find discounts online but really with the nightly savings on the room it’s not a huge deal.

Overall the B Resort & Spa is probably the nicest Disney Springs Resort Area Hotel we have stayed at. Everyone there was super friendly, helpful, and you can tell they try to make your stay B Magical! We we’re given a room for free while we were at Disney World for our Disney Wedding planning but I would totally stay here again without hesitation.

LEGOLAND Florida Made 5 Major Announcements

Approaching it’s 5 year anniversary it was only right to release 5 changes to mark the largest expansion in park history. Today, LEGOLAND Florida announced an unprecedented slate of projects that will deliver additional on-site accommodations, an immersive new theme park land with a cutting-edge, interactive attraction, the first-ever expansion of its water park, a new, action-packed “4D” theatrical attraction and an all-new summertime event filled with fireworks and special entertainment, giving guests even more reasons to play and play at the place that was built for kids!

First up is LEGOLAND Beach Retreat to open Mid 2017. This whimsically themed vacation resort combines the fun of surf, sand and sun with the creativity of LEGO® bricks on a picturesque site next to Lake Dexter, adjacent to the theme park. Distinguished by a colorful LEGO lighthouse, the village-style, lakefront resort will feature 83 single-story duplex units, offering 166 separate accommodations that sleep up to five. Designed with the same detail and imagination that made the 10 month old LEGOLAND Hotel a hit and with large families in mind who wish to vacation together can come together here. Amenities will include a themed pool, a sandy play area, a buffet-style restaurant and complimentary transportation to and from the theme park.

Next we have NINJAGO World opening Early 2017. Inspired by the popular series of LEGO building sets and the long-running TV show “LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu,” this all-new, fully immersive theme park land invites guests to step into a magical, martial arts kingdom where they’ll experience a first-of-its-kind attraction that blends eye-popping, 3D computer animation, “4D” atmospheric effects and groundbreaking technology by Montreal-based Triotech. On LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, up to four guests per vehicle blast animated fireballs, lightning, shockwaves and ice using nothing more than their hands as they travel through dojos mastering their skills before teaming up to defeat a powerful villain. Riders collect points and scores are displayed when each quest is complete. The thrilling attraction is the epicenter of a new area featuring multiple hands-on, interactive experiences that will hone kids’ physical skills like NINJAGO heroes Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Nya, before their ultimate test on LEGO NINJAGO The Ride.

NOW OPEN- Creative Cove featuring Build-A-Boat. A fun expansion area at LEGOLAND Water Park adds a brand-new attraction, Build-A-Boat, where kids can create and race LEGO watercraft through fast-flowing rivers alongside cheering crowds in a setting inspired by the popular LEGO City Coast Guard sets. Nearby, the existing Imagination Station lets little ones build and play with colorful DUPLO® bricks in a water-filled activity center. Additional dining offerings, increased seating capacity and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the entire water park round out the all-new offerings for 2016.

Coming Soon, May 26th 2016- LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS 4D: “The Book of Creativity”. Set in the futuristic Kingdom of Knighton, this all-new theatrical attraction pits five young knights against the evil Jestro and his sidekick, the Book of Monsters, in a battle for control of a rare book of magic that gives its owner tremendous power. Based on the new LEGO series of building sets and the just-launched TV show, the 12½-minute, immersive experience combines 3D computer animation with “4D,” real-world effects that bring the high-tech action bursting off the screen and into the audience. Elsewhere in the theme park, kids will discover six exclusive shields that unlock unique NEXO Powers within the LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS: Merlok 2.0 mobile app for iOS and Android devices.

Finally, Summer 2016- LEGOLAND Night Lights. The Resort will debut the all-new celebration of summertime fun featuring extended park hours, meet-and-greet opportunities with favorite LEGO characters, exclusive opportunities to build alongside LEGO Master Model Builders and a spectacular, brick-tacular NINJAGO fireworks display that will light the night above Lake Eloise with brilliant colors and triumphant music starting in June. The party will be included in park admission and will take place every Saturday and Sunday from June 18 to July 31 held exclusively at LEGOLAND Florida.

Keeping the pattern going with the rapid trajectory of expansions that has included LEGOLAND Water Park (May 2012), LEGO STAR WARS™ Miniland Model Display (November 2012), LEGO World of Chima™ (July 2013), DUPLO Valley (May 2014), LEGOLAND Hotel (May 2015), Heartlake City (June 2015), and phased restorations of the historic Cypress Gardens botanical wonderland, which recently celebrated its 80th anniversary.

Season 2 of ‘Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets’ Premieres on the Disney Junior App

The royal pets are back! Prepare to re-enter the whimsical world of Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets in Season 2 of “Whisker Haven Tales with the Palace Pets,” premiering TODAY, MARCH 16th on the Disney Junior app, following a special Easter-themed episode that aired last Wednesday, March 9.

Season 2 will include 10 three-minute episodes and three seasonal specials timed to Easter, Halloween, and Winter Holidays, is rich with themes of adventure, friendship, and humor, and celebrates the “Royal Heart of friendship” at the center of each story. It also introduces viewers to MANY more royal pets, including Aurora’s pet fox Nuzzles, Belle’s pet puppy Teacup, and Jasmine’s pet elephant Taj, among other critterzens (there’s even a sloth!).

Episode 1, “Pets on the Hunt!” brings viewers on a delightful scavenger hunt around the village of Whisker Haven, where the pets must work together in order to understand confusing clues and make the hunt a success. New episodes will release on the Disney Junior app every Wednesday (known as#WhiskerHavenWednesday) through April 13, with additional episodes rolling out later this year. The episodes will also air on Disney Channel and Disney Junior beginning Wednesday, March 23 with the Easter special “Hearts, Hooves, Eggs!”

The live stage show Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away is set to debut on April 4, 2016 in Hollywood Studios in front of the Chinese Theater. The show will feature some of your favorite Star Wars characters such as Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, BB-8 and Darth Maul. Watch as iconic moments from the Star Wars saga are recreated on stage right in front of your very eyes.

Available showtimes are currently listed in My Disney Experience from April 4th until April 9th. Guests will have five opportunities to catch this exciting new performance at 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm and 5:30pm daily.
