New DVC restrictions for resale buyers

DVC logo
DVC logo

DVC-logo

Those who buy into the Disney Vacation Club do so because they love and visit Disney so much, that it financially makes sense for them to do so. We love the ability to stay in Villas, which allow us more space and privacy when traveling, and the freedom to try out all the various Disney Vacation Club Resorts each time we plan a visit. Some of the additional perks of membership include discounts on merchandise, tickets, restaurants, as well as access to other special “Member Exclusives”. This year, Disney is even hosting some special members-only parties at WDW to celebrate the DVC’s 25th Anniversary!

However, it appears that from this point forward, members who buy their points resale instead of buying directly from Disney themselves will not be receiving any of the additional benefits and discounts anymore. In fact, the following letter has been sent to DVC Members from Ken Potruck:

Dear Disney Vacation Club Member,

Our goal at Disney Vacation Club has always been to create magical experiences for you and your families – experiences you simply can’t find anywhere else but Disney.

As our Member community continues to grow, we want to make sure we can continue to deliver the Membership Extras that add value to your overall experience – offerings that are provided as a premium advantage to our Members who purchase directly from Disney Vacation Club.

With that in mind, please be aware of a policy change regarding the availability of Membership Extras to our membership. As previously communicated (effective March 21, 2011), Getaways included within the Disney Collection (e.g., Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney) and the Concierge Collection, which are now part of Membership Extras, have not been available for ownership interests not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Club. Now, effective April 4, 2016, Members who do not purchase their ownership interest directly from Disney Vacation Club will not have access to other Membership Extras, such as exclusive Member experiences and discounts. Please know that as a current Disney Vacation Club Member (regardless of when or where you bought your membership), your access to Disney Differences and these additional Membership Extras will not be affected by this policy change. For more details about our Membership Extras program, please refer to our Membership Extras Acknowledgment and Disclosure Statement available online at disneyvacationclub.com.

We see this policy change as a very positive step to ensure that, going forward, our Members who purchase directly from Disney Vacation Club receive a premium advantage – in addition to all the magic that Disney has to offer.

Speaking of membership advantages, you’ve probably heard about the exciting Membership Extras introduced as part of the Disney Vacation Club 25th Anniversary. With this celebration, we’ve created unprecedented and exclusive Disney experiences for you and your family. In fact, just weeks ago, nearly 16,000 of you were able to enjoy the Disney Vacation Club 25 and Beyond Bash at Magic Kingdom Park. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 Members have entered our Disney Vacation Club Silver Anniversary Sweepstakes, and thousands of you have booked the Member Cruise sailing from New York later this year.

In the coming months we’ll be bringing you even more spectacular Membership Extras as part of the anniversary, from exclusive merchandise and one-of-a-kind events (including exciting plans for the West Coast) to an all-new Member Lounge opening later this spring in the Imagination! Pavilion at Epcot. And there’s so much more Disney Vacation Club fun on the horizon!

Thank you, as always, for being part of the Disney Vacation Club family – a family we are proud to serve. We look forward to welcoming you home again soon!

Sincerely,

Ken Potrock

Senior Vice President & General Manager Disney Vacation Club & Adventures by Disney

We love our Disney Vacation Club membership, and hope this doesn’t affect anyone else’s decision to join the DVC family! Will this change your mind about buying though Disney instead of resale?

Sense of Africa Tour Available to Book on April 5th

The new Sense of Africa Tour at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will become available to book beginning April 5, 2016. The 3.5 hour long tour will be offered on Tuesday and Saturday mornings at 7am beginning April 9th. The experience will include breakfast at Boma-Flavors of Africa followed by a backstage peek at the care, feeding, well-being and social interactions of resident animals such as okapi, giraffe, ostriches and red river hogs. Sense of Africa is sure to be a feast for all five senses.

SOA284936

Taste

Start your exploration with a breakfast chockfull of exotic (try the pap, a tangy porridge-like dish from South Africa, or turkey bobotíe) and more familiar fare (Mickey waffles, anyone?). But why not be adventurous? There are so many authentic African dishes, from sweet to savory and beyond.

Smell
A visit to Boma—Flavors of Africa is a buffet of delicious scents and spices. On the savanna, get a whiff of the hay or browse (leaves, tender shoots and other soft vegetation, which is grown on property) the animals dine on each day.

Hearing
In addition to the snorts, grunts, squeals and bleats you may hear, the animal keeper guides and trainers offer a plethora of information. Did you know that the okapi wasn’t even discovered until 1901? Or that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge houses the largest collection of authentic African art outside the African continent? Not to mention the Zen-like peacefulness of the savannas in the early hours.

SOA476849

Touch
Here’s something you don’t always get a chance to do. Select from vegetables, mealworms and other favorites to create enriching treats for a group of young red river hogs. Then watch them playfully discover – and devour – the delights you just hid for them!

Sight
Of course, everywhere you look—from the authentic garb of the cast members from Africa, and the color palette and textures of Jambo House, to the magnificent, intricate fur and feather patterns and expressive eyes of the animals – there are sights to behold to last a lifetime.

SOA507294FI

Reservations for the Sense of Africa tour can be made by calling 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) beginning April 5th.  The cost is $249 per person before tax and there is a 15% discount for Disney Vacation Club members and Annual Passholders. The safari truck can only accomodate 12 guests per tour and the minimum age is 10 years old. This experience is open to all guests and not just those staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Blu-Ray Review of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

swbluray3
swbluray3

swbluray3

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being able to watch “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on Blu-Ray,  as well as all of its bonus features. Of course, the movie was remarkable to see on the big screen last December, and I put in the movie expecting it to be good quality, but not compared to the visual experience of seeing it on the big screen. However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I watched the film that it felt like I was watching at a movie theatre! The resolution was crystal clear, and the visual effects were still stunning to see, even when just viewing at home! I definitely got the same cinematic experience in my living room as I did in the cinema.

This was my third viewing of the film, and I still absolutely love it–I feel like the casting for the new generation of “Star Wars” characters was perfect, and I love that there is a strong female lead, as well as so many nods to the original trilogy in this film. But, since I’m here to talk about the Blu-Ray, I’ll move on to talk about each of the bonus features you can find on the Digital HD and Blu-Ray Combo Pack versions of the film.

When you open up your copy of the Blu-Ray combo pack, you get a code for your digital download, and three discs; one for the film, one for the bonus features, and a DVD.

SWBluray

There are many wonderful featurettes, some deleted scenes, and a full-length documentary on the bonus disc, here’s my take on them:

  • The Story Awakens: The Table Read – This is about a 15 minute featurette documenting the first time the original and new cast members all get together to read the script of Episode VII. It was very enjoyable, and I loved watching the interviews of many of the cast member’s feelings of nostalgia and excitement about continuing the legacy of “Star Wars.” I would have loved to have seen more clips of the actual table read that were filmed, but it was still very exciting to watch snippets of the cast getting together in an intimate setting and reading such an extraordinary script. It was a real behind-the-scenes treat that we rarely get to see for any film.
  • Building BB-8 – One of the featurettes that talk about the process of designing BB-8, as well as the many different versions of him used to operate him in different environments for the shooting of the film. I thought this featurette was fantastic, and loved seeing the process of making the “R2 of our generation” (as the filmmakers often referred to him as) so lifelike. I think kids will really enjoy this one!
  • Crafting Creatures – Something that I, and many other fans, were excited about was the heavy use of practical effects in Episode VII, much in the way the original trilogy had. It was incredible to see how practical effects have become so intricate over the decades since “A New Hope,” each one so intricately thought out and crafted, with many of them utilizing animatronic technology. This featurette was my favorite on the Blu-Ray, it was very in-depth and allowed us to see creatures the film crew created that were in the background of scenes and may not have been able to see them up-close otherwise.
  • Blueprint of a Battle: The Snow Fight – This Blu-Ray really nailed all the special features, because yet again I have to say, I loved this one! This focuses on creating and filming the fight between Rey and Kylo, and Kylo and Finn in the snow. It was interesting to see how every individual department involved in the film put incredible efforts into making this scene perfection. From watching this featurette you can really get a taste of how much coordination, teamwork, and talent it takes to create a film as big as “The Force Awakens.”
  • John Williams: The Seventh Symphony – In this featurette, you get to see many clips of John Williams orchestrate the score for Episode VII, as well as interviews with Williams talking about his creative process in writing the score. In watching Williams lead such a massive team of musicians, as well as not only create new music but find ways to incorporate pieces of the original, its easy to see why John Williams is one of the most legendary composers of all time.
  • ILM: The Visual Magic of the Force – It was amazing to see that much more of the film than I had realized were actually practical effects, and with this featurette you get a more in-depth look on this, as well as the enhancements they make with CGI. This was a really interesting featurette, but I would have liked if it were a bit longer, I would have loved to have seen more on this topic!
  • Force for Change – A short look on how Lucasfilm and Star Wars fans around the world are giving back. It really showed what a great community the fans and crew of Star Wars have created and have found ways to use their love of Star Wars to give back! They have a website you can check out here.
  • Deleted Scenes – Rather than full-length scenes, these were more like pieces of scenes already in the film that were cut, and some seemed like scene transitions. They are all very short clips, but still fun to watch nonetheless!
  • Secrets of “The Force Awakens”: A Cinematic Journey – This was my favorite bonus feature of all! It was a full-length documentary with many in-depth interviews, and behind the scenes clips I had never seen before. We get a look at the film from the very beginning of casting, to the completion of the film. The documentary was not only a Star Wars-fan dream of an insider’s look of the film, but the feeling of being on set along with the cast and crew for the filming was very palpable.

Many Blu-Rays are released with bonus features that fall short, but this Blu-Ray exceeded my expectations with how in-depth and entertaining each bonus feature was. They were very fun and enjoyable to watch, and ones that I will definitely be re-watching numerous times. Even though I already watched the film and bonus features over Easter weekend, I’m ready for round 2!

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released on Digital HD April 1st, and on DVD and Blu-Ray Combo Pack April 5th.

In a move that has shocked the entertainment industry (and of course Disney fans!), Tom Staggs has stepped down as Chief Operating Officer of the Walt Disney Company today. The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise as Staggs was supposedly next in line to be Chief Executive Officer when Bob Iger retires in 2018.

Rumors circulate that Staggs has stepped down upon hearing that he actually would not be considered for the CEO position in 2018, but alas, rumors are rumors.

The fact remains that Staggs will remain on as a “special advisor” to Iger, throughout the remainder of the fiscal year.

In the press release, Disney said, “With approximately two years left before Mr. Iger steps down as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Disney’s Board of Directors will broaden the scope of its succession planning process to identify and evaluate a robust slate of candidates for consideration.”

Who do you think will be next in line now?

A 45 year old Disneyland Paris Cast Member has been found dead on the Phantom Manor ride on Saturday morning.

The death is under investigation but it appears the man was electrocuted while working on the lighting in the haunted house. The cast member was found by a co-worker in the Phantom Manor attraction before the park was open to the public.

Although not yet identified the union rep said he has worked in the park for over 14 years and was a father. He was described as a popular kind of guy who was always smiling.

Management at Disneyland is deeply saddened by the tragedy.  They will keep the ride closed until at least Wednesday.

We send our deepest condolences out to the family of this employee.

New date for FastPass+ changes, including making additional FastPass+ choices from the My Disney Experience App

P1150382

magicbands

Ever since the information was released that you would be able to use the My Disney Experience App to make additional FastPass+ choices after you used your first 3 choices instead of using a Kiosk at that park, guests have anxiously been awaiting the actual rollout date for this new feature. We’re excited to say that it looks like April 10th is going to be that day! According to Kenny the Pirate and WDW News Today, Sunday, April 10th is going to be the day the new changes come into effect.

Not only will the additional FastPass choice changes go into effect, but there will other great enhancements to the FastPass selection protocol as well!

Now instead of having to choose your 3 tiered ride choices, and take the “best option” where they choose the times for you, you can now select one ride at a time (instead of having to select all 3 ride choices at once) and select a specific time for that ride. Other new features include the ability to remove individual guests from a FastPass+ reservation and the ability to cancel a single FastPass+ attraction reservation instead of all of them.

How do you feel about this new set of changes? We think it’s great, and will keep you posted if more details arise!

Disneyland employee, Emily Gibby, found a lanyard with pins on Thursday in the park. There was a note attached to the lanyard which read “Hello, I am autistic and I don’t talk much, but I would like to trade for Mickey pins.”

Emily attached 11 more pins and is now in search of the owner. You can view her post on facebook here or on Instagram.

Alright Friends I need your help! Thursday morning during the pin release I was working, we found this red lanyard with four pins on it. It had a white note attached that said “hello I am autistic and I don’t talk much but I would like to trade for Mickey pins.” So we did what any Cast Member would naturally do.. We filled up his lanyard with Mickey pins and got him a Mickey medallion as well! But now we need everyone’s help in finding him/her!! Share this post and help us find our friend! ! Let’s work some magic and try to find our friend!! So far we have learned that there were a few kids that had similar lanyards on (allegedly we are thinking the boys and girls club). If there is any information please DM @emgibby or message on Facebook Emily Fuller Gibby thank you! #theredlanyard #autismawareness #disneyland60 #pintrading ❤️❤️❤️❤️
