Schedule for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Starting to Take Shape

Halloween Party

Halloween Party

Those curious as to how Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will play out this year will be pleased to know that Disney is gradually starting to release schedules for the spooky evening festivities.  Though it still appears to be a work in progress, get your Autumn touring plans at the ready because here’s what we know so far:

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular –  The Sanderson Sisters are back and will be joined by Dr. Facilier, Malificent and other Disney baddies in this not-to-be missed Halloween treat.  The show will feature dances, sinister projections and spooky special effects and is scheduled to take place several times nightly.  The timings go through several incarnations so here’s a breakdown:

  • September 2nd  – September 13th: There will be three shows nightly at 9:15pm, 10:40pm and 12:00am
  • September 16th – September 30th: As in previous years there will be four shows nightly at 8:00pm, 9:15pm, 10:40pm and 12:00am.
  • Month of October: As we near Halloween, the show will continue to be offered four times nightly but the 8:00pm show will be changed to 7:45pm.

Cadaver Dans – Visitors to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will once again have an opportunity to enjoy the Halloween-inspired stylings of this ghostly group of entertainers.  Located in Frontierland, Cadaver Dans will take you through rousing renditions of spooky Disney classics like “Grim Grinning Ghosts”, “Cruella DeVil” and the “Oogie Boogie Song” among others.  Performances remain consistent throughout all of the Halloween parties and will take place 5 times nightly at 7.15pm, 8:00pm, 9:15pm, 9:55pm and 10:50pm.

Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade – Lead by the Headless Horseman, this eerie procession featuring ghosts and ghouls from the Haunted Mansion is scheduled to delight guests twice nightly.  During the month of September the parade will take place at 8:30pm and 11:15pm.  In October, the first showing shifts to 8:15pm.

Celebrate the Magic – Watch as Cinderella’s Castle is magically transformed to set an ominous Halloween-inspired scene for the fireworks that follow. Featuring Disney Villains galore, this nightly event will take place at 10:00pm throughout September and October.

Happy Hallowishes Fireworks – The Ghost Host from the Haunted Mansion welcomes guests to this bone-rattling version of Magic Kingdom’s much-loved evening fireworks display.  Watch as Disney Villains unleash their fury in the night sky.  The event is set to the soundtrack of some of Disney’s scarier songs including “Poor Unfortunate Souls” and well as numbers from The Nightmare Before Christmas and even Peter Pan’s “Never Smile Crocodile”.  The pyrotechnics will kick off nightly at 10:15pm throughout September and October.

Magic Kingdom’s Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball is slated to return this season as well and appears on the daily park schedule from 7pm – 12am though no further information has been given as of yet regarding a definitive location for the event.  Watch this space for further details.

In addition to the Scary Character Greetings taking place during the Halloween Party, many of Disney’s regular character will be hanging around well into the evening hours with (Talking) Mickey Mouse, Tinkerbell, and the princesses over at Fairytale Hall all scheduled to greet guests from 7pm- 12am during party nights.

Guests should note that all of the events schedules as part of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are subject to change without notice.

Tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party start at $72 for adults and $67 for kids and inch ever closer to the $100 mark as Halloween nears. Tickets do go quickly so advanced booking is strongly recommended and can be done via My Disney Experience or by contacting your travel agent.

National Roller Coaster Day – Coaster Crusade 2016

National Coaster Day

IMG_4357

Tuesday, August 16 was National Roller Coaster Day, and to celebrate we took a spin on some of Florida’s best coasters at SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa as part of the “Coaster Crusade”.  The day began at SeaWorld Orlando, which features five unique coasters with fun for all ages.  There was a group of us there for the event and we were escorted through the park like VIPs.  For each ride, they walked us to the front of the line and we could choose any seat we liked.  We were also provided lots of water throughout the day to stay hydrated in the Florida heat.

The coasters were experienced at SeaWorld were Manta, Kraken, Journey to Atlantis, Mako, and the kiddie coaster, Shamu Express.

Manta is a blend of up-close animal encounters with a head first, face-down thrill ride.  This is the only coaster of its kind in the world!

Kraken is Orlando’s only floorless coaster and is themed after the massive, mythological underwater beast that is unleashed from the depths of the sea.  This coaster travels on a pedestal above the track, at highway speeds, and at heights greater than 150 feet.

Journey to Atlantis is part water ride, part roller coaster that plunges guests into the lost city of Atlantis.  Riders encounter steep, fast drops that will leave you soaked, even if you wear a poncho.

Mako upped the thrills for SeaWorld Orlando this year.  It is the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in Orlando.  It is a hypercoaster that reaches 200 feet high, 73 mph, and the track is almost a mile long.

And we can’t forget the kiddie coasters! Shamu Express is SeaWorld’s family oriented coaster.

Once we finished at SeaWorld, they transported us via bus to Busch Gardens Tampa to conquer Kumba, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, Air Grover, Cobra’s Curse, and Montu.

Kumba starts with a drop of 135 feet into a diving loop.  Riders also feel a full 3 seconds of weightlessness while twisting 360 degrees, and go through one of the world’s largest vertical loops.

SheiKra is North America’s first dive coaster that sends riders through a 3 minute journey 200 feet up to the edge of a 90 degree drop! Floorless cars give riders an unobstructed view of the 70mph rush through an Immelmann loop (simultaneous loop and roll), under ground tunnel, and water feature finale.

Cheetah Hunt is Florida’s first triple launch coaster.  It’s a 4,400 foot sprint that will take your breath away.

Air Grover is junior coaster full of fun turns, mini dives, perfect for parents and kids to ride together.

Cobra’s Curse is a spin coaster that is the only one of its kind in the world, featuring a vertical lift and taking riders on a whirl wind adventure of exciting explorations.

Montu is one of the tallest and longest inverted coasters in the world! Riders will feel the ultimate rush on the 60 foot vertical drop and travel more than 60mph.

Unfortunately, we got a code purple, aka inclement weather with lightning in the area, so we did not have the chance to ride Falcon’s Fury, Sand Serpent, or Scorpion.  So at the end of the day we had conquered 11 coasters between SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa.  If you have not been to either one of these parks and you are a thrill junkie, I recommend trying them out.  They will definitely get the adrenaline pumping in any thrill seeker!

A Taste of Star Wars at The Backlot Express Quick Service

Backlot Express 1

Star Wars is definitely taking Hollywood Studios over by storm! With the highly anticipated park expansion on the horizon, more and more Star Wars elements can be found at the park. While there is no official Star Wars dining experience yet, you can still get a small Star Wars taste at the Backlot Express Quick Service restaurant.

This year my son has become obsessed with Star Wars, so now every Disney trip we take, has to revolve around said obsession for him. Just like his parents, he loves Disney food, so on our last family trip we decided to try out the Star Wars offerings at Backlot Express. The long running quick serve venue hasn’t changed in style or decor, but it does include some galactic options on the menu. It has the traditional, burger and chicken nuggets we’ve come to know at Disney quick serves, 2 menu items stand out. The Dark SIde inspired Royal Guard Burger, and the Darth Vader Chicken and Waffles. You know we had to try both!

Backlot Express 1

I had the Darth Vader Chicken and Waffles, because well chicken and waffles! My son and I shared this since it was a pretty ample serving of food. You can get this as a full size meal, or a kids meal. The waffles are perfect, made with the infamous Mickey Waffles batter and griddled with Darth Vader faces. The chicken is the same chicken nuggets you get at most quick serves, still good, but not out of this world. Sadly they no longer have syrup, but there is my favorite condiment honey mustard, so we chowed down with it. The 2 flavors pair very well together. I’m hoping Disney continues to add more unique offerings like this in the quick service restaurants.

Backlot Express 2

My husband, who is the forever more adventurous eater, went for the Royal Guard Burger. This is a brisket topped burger, that was surprisingly REALLY good! It wins as my favorite meal item at Backlot. I was a bit scared at the thought of the black bun, after having seen the Burger King version. Fortunately, this is nothing like it! This is simply a very dark pumpernickel like bun, so not a scary food coloring nightmare. The brisket is melt in your mouth delicious, and just the right amount. The plate comes loaded with lots of pickles, and they help compliment the sweet brisket. The bun also held very well for having all the extra sauce from the brisket! I say this is a galactic winner.

Backlot Express 3

One of the other things we always grab from the quick serves is the Kids’ Mickey Check Meal – Power Pack. It comes packed full of great snacks, including carrots and apples.

Backlot Express 4

There are Star Wars souvenir cups available as well! You can get a Chewbacca or Boba Fett stein, or the BB-8 cup. We got a Chewbacca and a BB-8, well the BB-8 was supposed to be mine, but as you can see… I didn’t get to have it for long.

Backlot Express Darth Vader Cupcake

Lastly are the desserts! Currently you can get a Darth Vader or BB-8 Cupcake. BB-8 is a lemon cupcake, and Darth Vader is chocolate. We got the Darth Vader cupcake, and I have to say it is probably my favorite cupcake on Disney Property right now. Sure it looks like chocolate frosting on top of the rich chocolate cake, but not all is at it seems. The frosting is an incredible whipped peanut butter icing! Darth Vader is also yummy, he is made of a solid piece of dark chocolate.

We really enjoyed getting to have a Star Wars themed meal at Backlot Express, while experiencing The Force at Hollywood Studios. I think it’s a great way to hold you over until Star Wars Land opens. It’s also located right next to Star Tours, so you can fill up after traveling the galaxy on rebel missions!

Simple Gals Fall Scents Disney Candle Melts are Back!

Simple Gals Fall Scents

It’s that time of year again, when all of the delicious treats of Fall begin to show up! I’m hopelessly in love with Autumn, and all of it’s special themed snacks, goodies and treats. The Simple Gals Fall Scents are some of my favorite Disney Candle scents of the year. I’m so excited that they are back!

Simple Gals Candle Shop makes some of the most delectable Disney candles out there, but their Fall inspired ones are spook-tacular! There’s a scent inspired by Mickey’s Not so Scary Halloween Party, mmm! It’s called MNSSHP and smells like the wonderful fall treat Candy Corn. My personal favorite is based on the Mickey Pumpkin Cupcake, the cupcake tastes SO good. The Pumpkin Cupcake melts and candles have the aroma of creamy pumpkin filling, melted butter, pecans, with hints of spice Maple icing. Other popular fall fragrances include Boo To You a black licorice parade inspired cutie, and also Hocus Pocus that’s as dark and mysterious as the Sanderson Sisters themselves. You won’t find these popular ghosties for long though, their candle haunting will end on November 1st.

Don’t forget to also check out the Villains inspired and classic Disney scents too!

If you haven’t checked them out yet, there is also new 3 layer candles available too!

These haunting Simple Gals Fall Scents are the perfect way for you to relive the magic of Disney even if you can’t make it to MNSSHP!

It has been reported that Disney has invested $1 billion into BAMtech technology by MLB. With this new investment, Disney now owns 33% of the video unit (along with MLB and NHL as other owners), with an option to become a majority owner within a few years.

According to the “BAMtech” website, they describe themselves as such:

MLBAM (MLB Advanced Media) is a full service solutions provider delivering world-class digital experiences for over ten years and distributing content through all forms of interactive media. Our digital leadership and capabilities are a direct result of an appreciation for designing dynamic functionality for web, mobile applications, and connected devices while integrating live and on-demand multimedia, providing valuable products for millions of fans around the globe.

MLB Advanced Media CEO Bob Bowman, said, “Having a partner like Disney is going to make us far more successful than we’d be on our own.”

By the end of this year, ESPN is planning to debut a multi-sport subscription streaming service. Live content will be shown from BAMTech and ESPN; sports such as college football, basketball, rugby, and cricket. CEO Bob Iger said, “In general, live sports has really thrived, even in a world where there’s so much more for people to do and to watch.”
