Frozen Ever After

Disney has recently revealed that the original cast of the blockbuster hit Frozen were reassembled to record the voice track for Epcot’s brand new Frozen Ever After attraction opening in June.  This Norwegian inspired boat ride will take over the spot vacated by Maelstrom in Epcot’s Norway pavilion and is designed to take visitors on an epic journey through the key places featured in the blockbustre film from the Village of Arendelle, to Elsa’s ice castle retreat.

The songs on the original Frozen soundtrack will feature heavily in the new ride and the film’s songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson were brought in to write new lyrics for the ride as several changes have been made to the songs to keep with the theming of the attraction.  According to Wyatt Winter, the project manager and producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, some of the characters will be singing the songs with some slight twists.  Winter also confirmed that the original voice cast including Idina Menzel as Elsa, Kristen Bell as Anna, Josh Gad as Olaf and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff  teamed up to reprise their roles for the attraction.

Don’t miss your chance to check out the newest Frozen themed attraction to hit the Disney parks starting this Summer.  Visitors will also be able to meet much-loved sisters Anna and Elsa when they take up residence at the adjacent Royal Summerhaus for daily meet and greets in a cabin influenced by the architecture of Trondheim Norway with surroundings that pay homage to the Royal Family of Arenendelle.

Magic Kingdom’s All New Live Stage Show ‘Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire’ to Debute in June

Mickeys Royal Friendship Faire Concept
Mickeys Royal Friendship Faire Concept

Mickey's Royal Friendship

Disney announced this week that its latest stage show “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” will grace the steps of Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom starting this June.

This all singing, all dancing afternoon stage spectacular takes place on the Forecourt Stage with Cinderella’s Castle as its backdrop and is hosted by none other than Mickey Mouse.   Mickey, along with his band of merry friends plan on throwing a massive festival but first need to drum up some party guests. Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen  are on the top of Goofy’s invitation list in the hopes they’ll bring some of the jazz and good times the Big Easy is so renowned for.  Donald Duck convinces the vagrants and miscreants found at the Snuggly Duckling to come along. While Daisy has the far nobler pursuit of convincing Rapunzel and Flynn Rider to join in the celebration.  And last but not least, Mickey, ever the romantic, surprises Minnie with a visit from everyone’s favorite sisters, Anna and Elsa from Frozen.  Rumor has it the Olaf may also come along for the ride.

MRFF

This sparkling new production promises to be one of Summer’s hottest tickets, with magical costumes, awesome choreography, special effects and unforgettable musical numbers including “On this Day” written especially for the production by esteemed songwriters Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda of “Toy Story: The Musical” and “Tinkerbell Secret of the Wings” fame.

“Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” is just one of the many amazing experiences Walt Disney World will unveil across its four theme parks this Summer. Watch this space for further details on performance times.  Visitors planning their trip to the Magic Kingdom should also note that events are subject to change.

With so many stage shows, fireworks displays and optional add-ons on offer, visitors to Walt Disney World are spoiled for choice.  That’s where I come in! As an agent with MickeyTravels, I love working with clients to piece together a Disney package packed with things your family will love. Tiffins Restaurant in Animal Kingdom Opening in Time for Summer!

TEFFI754895
TEFFI754895

TEFFI754895

Tiffins – an Indian word for lunchbox, also a word for a mid-day meal, and now the name of the new table service restaurant at Animal Kingdom is set to open Memorial Day weekend for lunch and dinner!

Tiffins

Tiffins sounds like it will impress, as it’s menu is inspired by the world travels of the parks creators.  It will be located in the park’s Discovery Island.  The menu will have dishes from Africa, Asia, as well as South America. Handcrafted cocktails and beer, and organic wines will also be featured.  The decor and theme of the restaurant are also set to coincide with the menu, and I am sure Disney Imagineers have been hard at work perfecting the finished products.

tiffins

The Nomad Lounge will also be opening next to Tiffins.  The lounge will not require reservations, and offers beautiful river views.  The menu will feature small bites, with big taste such as Wagyu beef skewers, and honey glazed coriander pork ribs.

With all the wonderful changes coming to Animal Kingdom, Tiffins will also be a great addition to dining within the park, expanding the in-park dining options!

Want to plan or book your next trip to Animal Kingdom and experience the new Tiffins?  As an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner for MickeyTravels, I would be happy to help you plan your trip! Contact me anytime [email protected], or on my Facebook page. Services are 100% free!

New restaurants coming to Walt Disney World in 2016

morimoto asia 00 new

morimoto-asia-00-new

Walt Disney World has seen a surge in new and trendy eateries throughout Disney Springs, and even new dining options in the parks and resorts that greatly appeal to guests; and have become quite popular. Since Dining (or more appropriately, Free Dining), is on everyone’s minds lately, let’s re-cap some of the newest and soon-to-open restaurants at Walt Disney World:

Disney Springs has recently seen the opening of two new fine dining options: Morimoto Asia and The Boathouse, and coming this summer they will be joined by Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming – Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar; Chef Rick Bayless’ Tablas Frontera; and STK, a modern steakhouse mixed with the ambiance of a sleek lounge. Fulton’s will also be re-opening after a lengthy renovation, and Planet Hollywood will get a facelift as well, helping it to fit better into the theme of Disney Springs. And don’t forget about Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar opened in 2015 along the waterfront at Disney Springs with 150 seats inside and out. The bar cleverly features salvaged equipment, spare airplane parts and travel mementos collected by Jock, Indiana Jones’ pilot in the first film.

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza will also open this summer, a modern “pizza joint” known for custom-built artisanal pizzas. Also keep your eyes peeled for the opening of Disney’s D-Luxe Burger featuring gourmet burgers made from a signature blend of beef, plus all-natural chicken and vegetarian burgers, hand-cut fries and gelato shakes in a relaxing Town Center location with outdoor seating overlooking the Spring. Also look for three new Disney kiosks: Aristocrepes, with sweet and savory crepes; The Daily Poutine, with hot fries and four different toppings, and B.B. Wolf’s Sausage Co. featuring artisan sausages.

If you have a sweet tooth, then you need to check out the recently opened, The Ganachery showcases the beauty of chocolate, with Disney’s proprietary recipe for the custom-made ganache, a luxurious mixture of melted chocolate and cream. Opening in May, Amorette’s Patisserie will feature classic and contemporary pastries by the Disney chefs, with custom cakes that are works of art. Also coming this summer is Sprinkles, serving up handcrafted cupcakes, slow churned ice cream and homemade cookies

If you enjoy dining at the resorts, then you’ll be excited to know that Disney has added two new brunches. The new Brunch at the Top at California Grill atop Disney’s Contemporary Resort features both a buffet (with an extraordinary Bloody Mary bar) and table service, plus a remarkable view from the 15th floor. Narcoossee’s Waterfront Brunch at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is a three-course delight with Mimosas, Champagne or Bloody Marys. Also, don’t forget about the newest addition to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is a favorite of Disney fans, with more than 1,200 pieces of memorabilia. Hand-crafted cocktails and small plates are a hit with guests.

In the theme parks there are a few new additions as well as some upcoming openings to look forward to. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Tiffins opens Memorial Day weekend, featuring food from places that inspired the creation of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Open for both lunch and dinner, Tiffins has waterfront views and is situated at the entrance to Pandora: The World of AVATAR, opening in 2017. (“Tiffin” is an Indian English word for a midday meal or a type of container used to carry food while traveling). Adjacent to Tiffins, Nomad Lounge features hand-crafted cocktails with African, Asian and South American flavors; beers, and sustainable wines from those regions, plus specialty non-alcoholic beverages and small bites.

The new Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen in the Magic Kingdom is the first restaurant inspired by a classic attraction. Just steps from the legendary Jungle Cruise attraction in Adventureland, the 222-seat restaurant features bold, flavorful tastes of Asia, South America and Africa for lunch and dinner. Great Food Among the Flowers and More of The Best Food Fest: The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival has expanded to 90 days, and Epcot International Food & Wine Festival kicks off Sept. 14 and runs through November 14 this fall. That means almost two additional weeks – from 53 days to 62 – of deliciousness, foodie fun, culinary events, celebrity chefs, seminars, music concerts and more.

Also, I know as a mom to a child with Food Allergies, I greatly appreciate the care and dedication Disney offers for those that do suffer from food allergies, with Allergy-friendly menus being found in more than 120 quick-service and table-service locations at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, along with more ways to make the special-diet-request process easier. Guests are still able to consult directly with a restaurant chef or special diets trained cast member. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is the recipient of a FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) Award for dedication to providing a safe and enjoyable dining experience for vacationing families and Disney chefs have been recognized for their commitment to food allergy awareness, education and management.

Ever wonder how a new dish makes it on the menu? Or how a cocktail comes to life? The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Flavor Lab brings the chefs, front-of-house managers, sommeliers, mixologists and more together in a state-of-the-art research and development facility. The new 7,000-square foot Flavor Lab serves as a hub of new product, packaging and equipment innovation for food and beverage programs across Walt Disney Parks and Resorts around the globe. While not open to the public, Disney guests will be the ultimate benefactor of all the testing, measuring and collaborations that will happen in the expansive new space.

With all the new additions and the upcoming openings, Disney sure is a great place to enjoy whatever type of dining suites you. What is your new favorite WDW restaurant?

New Star Wars Experiences added to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

As so much construction is being done at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney is trying to make sure there is still plenty of things for guests to do, as so much of the park has been closed off to be transformed into the new Star Wars Land. In keeping with the Star Wars theme, we have seen a few new things added recently, such as the April 4th debut of the new Star Wars: A Galaxy Far Far Away Stage show, that takes place in front of the Chinese Theater multiple times a day. The popular stage show celebrates iconic moments from the Star Wars saga with live vignettes featuring popular characters such as BB-8, Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Darth Maul.

Other recent additions to the park include The March of the First Order Stormtrooper procession led by Captain Phasma from the Star Wars Launch Bay to the park’s Center Stage, which adds a touch of menace to the entertainment.

NESWPL8062

The just-opened Star Wars Launch Bay showcases large-scale artifacts and encounters with characters including Kylo Ren. The re-imagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple experience also features new characters. And at Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, guests buckle up for an enhanced high-speed journey with new Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters and a visit to Jakku.

NESWPL8063

In addition to these new Star Wars attractions for fans, Disney will be upgrading the Star Wars nightly fireworks show as well. Here is what Disney had to say about the new show to debut this summer:

There’s a lot of fun in store for Star Wars fans this summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Starting this June, fans won’t want to miss the grand debut of a new Star Wars fireworks show, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.” This new nightly show is the next generation of the current Star Wars-inspired fireworks show. It will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects and video projections that will turn the nearby Chinese Theater and other buildings into the twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, Starkiller Base and other Star Wars destinations. The show will be punctuated with a tower of fire and spotlight beams, creating massive lightsabers in the sky. This new show will be the most elaborate fireworks display to take place in the history of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Finally as seen above Disney released an artist rendering of an all new Star Wars themed Dinner Club coming to Star Wars Land. No details other than the photo have been released but it sounds very exciting!

Cantina

This will go hand in and hand with the Cantina Restaurant coming to Disney World & Disneyland. So far all we have is concept art as Disney is running pretty lean on details.

Stay tuned to Chip and Co, as we get more details we will post them!

Captain America: Civil War Press Conference- Team Captain America

FullSizeRender 1 1
FullSizeRender 1 1
FullSizeRender (1)
From Left to Right: Kevin Feige, Joe Russo, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Paul Rudd

I’m back to talk about the second part of the “Captain America: Civil Warpress conference, which was all about Team Captain America! This panel was equally amazing as Team Iron Man, with producer and president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige returning to speak on this panel, joined by co-director Joe Russo, actors Paul Rudd (Ant-Man/Scott Lang), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Clint Baron/Hawkeye), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), and of course Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America).

Kevin Feige spoke incredibly in-depth about the process of making the movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Team Iron Man panel, and reiterated his love and dedication for all the work he and his fellow artists put into these movies. Feige said he absolutely loves the diversity of tones they get to play around with with all the Marvel movies. He often gets to work with the same characters he knows and loves, but he still gets a wide-range of films he is able to produce, whether the very humorous such as “Ant-Man“, or a darker story like “Age of Ultron”, his job always remains interesting.

Director Joe Russo spoke in admiration of the actors he is able to work with on these films, and said during “Captain America: Civil War” they would always keep the cameras rolling and try to give just 2-3 word directorial notes so the actors could just jump back into character immediately. He feels it is important to keep rolling and build upon each take rather than constantly stopping and starting the cameras again. He wants to work to maintain the anticipation and momentum we see as audiences in the final product. Working with this line-up of superheroes, he discusses how growth arcs can be quite difficult with such powerful characters. It is crucial to make sure we can see their more-human personalities and their flaws, or else the superheroes would be limitless. Interpreting their flaws and their emotions on screen makes for a more interesting story, and more relate-able.

Paul Rudd, who was introduced last year as Ant-Man in the Marvel universe, was just as funny and quick-witted in person as one would imagine him to be, making the audience of the press conference laugh continuously! (He’s also incredibly funny in “Civil War” too) Rudd said that “Captain America: Civil War” was a very unique experience for him, even after having filmed Marvel’s “Ant-Man”. He said this experience seemed much more surreal, since he could see all of the iconic props and costumes in-person, such as Captain America’s shield or Iron Man’s suit. Rudd said that it felt as if the superheroes he loved in comic books as a child were real.

Sebastian Stan, with each Marvel film he does has the intricate task of figuring out how much of Bucky Barnes versus how much of the Winter Soldier he should incorporate into his performance. This balance alters constantly for him, not only with each film but even with each scene. Although challenging to say the least, Stan also finds this aspect of his role exciting, as he never knows what corner his character will turn with the next film until he receives a new script.

Elizabeth Olsen also plays a character with much inner turmoil, discussing how Wanda is different from many superheroes, as her opponent isn’t a villian, but herself. The Scarlet Witch isn’t fully in control of her powers, or her emotions, and this can sometimes be frustrating and frightening to her character, with her ongoing battle trying to figure herself out more.

When we last saw Clint/Hawkeye, he had decided to retire from the Avengers to be with his wife and children, but he makes his return in “Captain America: Civil War”. Actor Jeremy Renner talked about how he felt that making a comeback was inevitable, as his character seeks adventure and enjoys the action too much to stand back from the Avengers for too long, Hawkeye craves the excitement of battle.

Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans were quite entertaining, by making jokes and laughing with one another during the press conference, and even admitting they have burpee and push-up competitions with one another on set. They definitely seem like a fun duo on-screen and off. Chris Evans seemed as kind-hearted as his character Steve Rogers, and complimented his fellow actors, directors, and crew members, saying how their dedication to the film was palpable; it helped motivate and inspire him to feel the air of excitement from everyone around him. This film was particularly interesting for him, as he got to play around with his character in a way he hadn’t been able to before. He explained that Captain America is a very binary person, normally being very moral and perfect. With “Captain America: Civil War”, he was able to experiment and figure out more layers to Captain America, and make his emotions a little more grey, a little less black and white. In this film, he has to decide if he should be on his new family’s side (the Avengers team) or his old family’s side (Bucky Barnes). In his venture of figuring himself out on a deeper level, more character flaws become revealed.

“Captain America: Civil War” was indeed a complex film, with many layers, and story and character developments. The actors, directors, and scrip writers executed it flawlessly, and I can’t wait to see what else is up their sleeve for these characters’ future stories.
