Earl of Sandwich is one of my favorite places in all of Disney World because of the Holiday Turkey Sandwich. I could eat those sandwiches every day! The Holiday Turkey is turkey, cornbread stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce & mayonnaise piled high on toasted bread. Delish!

Doc Mcstuffins: The Exhibit To Open At The World’s Largest Children’s Museum

Doc

Doc

Disney Junior is bringing its popular “Doc McStuffins” storytelling to communities in a first-ever touring museum exhibit based on the Peabody Award-winning television series. “Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit” opens at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on SATURDAY, AUGUST 6 and will travel to other museums around the country in 2017. The exhibit is designed to model “care and compassion” for kids age 2-7 in immersive activities that reinforce the importance of health and well-being.

Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior, said, “Doc McStuffins has already made a tremendous impact on how children see themselves and their possibilities by way of our popular TV series.” She continued, “We are delighted to now bring the show’s messages of care and compassion directly into communities across the country and we know we are in excellent hands with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. We look forward to having young visitors experience Doc’s playhouse clinic and toy hospital and learn firsthand about caring for themselves and for others.”

The bilingual (English/Spanish) interactive exhibit will transport kids and families into Doc’s iconic backyard clinic and the McStuffins Toy Hospital. There, young visitors go on a “feel better adventure” as they become “doctors in training,” don a white coat and toy stethoscope, “scrub in” (learning the importance of washing hands to avoid germs), report to an “Operating Room” where they can fix seams on a toy bear, assist in an “operation” on a toy dragon robot, and use Doc’s tools including a toy otoscope, stethoscope, thermometer and blood pressure cuff to give a check up to their own toys.

The exhibit is sponsored by Riley Children’s Health at Indiana University Health, home to one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals.  The exhibit provides an opportunity for children to become comfortable in a healthcare setting.

“It is a heavy order to convince children that going to see the doctor is not scary,” said Dr. Paul Haut, chief medical officer of Riley Children’s Health. “But it can be done through educational and interactive experiences, which help them understand that what we do is help keep people healthy. By teaching visitors about healthy habits, such as practicing good hand hygiene, exercising regularly and eating well, we hope this exhibit will put children’s minds at ease, while supporting our mission to keep all Hoosier children healthy.”

“Doc McStuffins serves as a great role model to children and adults, encouraging them to explore the importance of taking care of their own bodies as well as caring for others,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “Through imaginative play, we hope our visitors will learn more about health, science, and medicine, and discover that children can be anything they want to be when they grow up.”

Created and executive-produced by Chris Nee, Disney Junior’s Peabody Award-winning “Doc McStuffins” is an imaginative animated series about a six-year-old girl who communicates with and heals stuffed animals and broken toys out of her backyard playhouse clinic and in the magical McStuffins Toy Hospital. Created and executive-produced by Humanitas Prize and Emmy Award-winning Chris Nee, the series has been lauded globally for its modeling of good health practices and imparting to young viewers the importance of taking care of oneself and others. Shortly after the series’ premiere, a group of female African-American physicians were inspired to begin a “movement” they coined “We Are Doc McStuffins,” which grew into the Artemis Medical Society, an organization that now boasts a membership of over 4700 women physicians of color from around the world.

Since launching in 2012, “Doc McStuffins” has consistently been a Top 10 preschool cable TV series in key demographics, reaching 70% of Disney Channel’s and Disney Junior’s available Kids 2-5. “Doc McStuffins” also averages 16 million views each quarter on the Disney Junior app, VOD and HULU. In the past year, “Doc McStuffins” has been ordered over 20 million times via set-top-box VOD.

Flying Fish at Disney’s Boardwalk is Now Open and Re-Imagined

Flying Fish 1

The Flying Fish at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort is now open after a major re-imagining. The entire interior of the restaurant has been beautifully redesigned, including the on-stage kitchen. An all new menu crafted by Chef Tim Majoras, a veteran of the Flying Fish kitchen, is also featured.

The new interior design is inspired by the beloved flying fish of Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, which are displayed subtly throughout the location – from upholstery patterns to kitchen tiles. The updated look includes some sparking architectural accents, such as golden-winged room panels and a glittering chandelier that mimics a school of flying fish swimming overhead. The restaurant also features boardwalk-inspired mementos like carnival art, vintage games and a nod to the legendary “Flying Turns” rollercoaster.

The new AbracadaBar lounge will open soon next door, taking the spot formerly occupied by Seashore Sweets candy and ice cream shop. This new “curious cocktail lounge” combines the Golden Age of Magic with the magic of Disney storytelling. From enchanted magic show posters and mystifying mirrors to vintage props and tricks, AbracadaBar promises to be just as surprising and magical as its name suggests.

Former Fort Wilderness Cabins For Sale

Cabin

Cabin

Please note these cabins are no longer for sale!

We have recently discovered that some of the former Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness Cabins are for sale.  We found them in a little town called Homosassa, Florida, located 90 miles northwest of the Walt Disney World Resort, at Nature’s Resort.  Whether you are looking for a vacation home, a retirement home, or a permanent tiny home these cabins certainly have a lot to offer.  Can you just imagine coming home to one of these adorable tiny-home cabins every day?

In April 2016, the 2100 Loop at the Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness Campground closed and construction vehicles moved in.  The cabins were removed to make way for additional campsites.  These cabins were later seen on the old runway located near the entrance to the Wilderness Lodge.  From that location, they seemed to disappear.  Or did they?

Now you can purchase one of these gems for a cost, and if you are willing to relocate to Nature’s Resort in Homosassa, Florida.  We counted 16 cabins.  As of today, August 1st, there are only 10 cabins left for sale.  Are you in the market for a tiny-home cabin?

Here is what we know about the former Fort Wilderness cabins currently located at Nature’s Resort.  They are selling for $20,000 each.  All appliances and original furniture are included in this price tag.  You might be thinking maybe that is not so bad;  but here’s the catch.  The cabins will be placed on designated lots at Nature’s Resort and you have to agree not to move them off property. Placement of each cabin, within Nature’s Resort, will be determined by the new owner and upper management of the resort. Lot rent will run $4,800 per year.  Not a bad deal, but be aware that you pay the lot rent in one lump sum each year so you would also need to take that into consideration for your budget.  One additional note is that you cannot rent them out.  If you purchase one of these cabins, they are to be used exclusively for yourself and your family.   Is this something you can live with in order to own a piece of Walt Disney World history?

We recently visited Nature’s Resort.  When we arrived we were told by management that we could walk through the one cabin that is available for viewing.  They did not accompany us and we were able to stay awhile taking pictures and looking around inside the cabin.

As we entered the cabin, we saw that all the appliances and cabinets are there in their original form.  The microwave, dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator appeared to be clean and in good shape.  There are air fresheners placed throughout the cabin as the air is stagnant due to the fact that there is no electricity hooked up; hence no airflow or air conditioning.

The next thing we noticed was the original furnishings in the main living area.  The rustic table and chairs had a centerpiece and place settings for two.  We found these decorative elements to be charming and inviting.  We took a moment to sit at the table and relax as we admired the living space.

Tiny homes are notorious for their lack of space.  We found the main living area to have ample space for seating.  If you have ever stayed in a cabin at the Fort Wilderness Campground at Walt Disney World, then you likely know this to be true.  Surprisingly, the flat-screen televisions are still in the bedroom and living room and are included in the price.  All you need to kick-back and relax in the living room is the electricity, water, a good movie and some popcorn.

The Murphy Bed pulls down from the central wall facing the front of the cabin.  This provides extra sleeping space for the kids, the in-laws, or maybe even for Uncle Orville as long as he does not overstay his welcome.  The bed easily closes back up inside the wall afterwards to allow for more living space during the day.

The bathroom is a three-piece washroom complete with a full-size bathtub and shower combo, toilet, and sink.  The bathtub was immaculate and had a curved shower rod.  We were slightly amused by the fact that there are actually towels hanging on the towel racks too.

The bedroom has the plaid carpeting and rustic furniture original to the cabin.  We particularly like the bunk bed with its fun lighting fixture at the head of the bed.  Clearly this room is designed to sleep, four people.   If you were to purchase one of these would you keep it this way, or would you donate the bunk bed to a worthy cause, such as a fellow Disney Addict who would love to have one of these fun bunk beds?

The closet has a curtain for a door but it does not look like it would be overly difficult to add a more permanent door if that is your desire to do so.  We noticed the original Disney World Green Check sign mounted to the inside wall of the closet as well.  The closet is still sporting the standard wall safe and iron mount.  Do you see that they also left the standard-issue Walt Disney World hangers as well?

We were particularly impressed with the fact that this cabin had some original, to the Fort Wilderness cabins, artwork on display.  The one hanging above the kitchen table has a placard that reads, “Campground Railroad, Fort Wilderness. By Collin Campbell, 1972. From The Walt Disney Imagineering Collection.”  The artwork displayed in the bedroom reads, “Trading Post, Frontierland at Disneyland. By Sam McKim, 1956.  From The Walt Disney Imagineering Collection.”

No need to purchase curtains.  The original curtains are in excellent shape and likely the only thing they need is a good washing and pressing.  We noticed that all 16 of the cabins on the site of Nature’s Resort have curtains hanging in the windows.  Just a reminder here that 6 of the 16 cabins we saw have already sold.

They still have the safety sign in its original form mounted to the footboard of the bunk bed.   We also found the crib safety information notice posted to the inside door of the entry hall storage area.

The wall sconces in the bedroom and the main living room are in fair condition.  Some of them may need a little TLC but can easily be restored to their original beauty.  The moose and bear theme fits well with the overall theme of the cabin.

The ceiling lights are in excellent condition.  The only thing we can see with regards to these is that they could use a bit of dusting and cleaning up.  We did not notice any chips or broken pieces at all.

If you are in the market for purchasing a tiny home then these former Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness Cabins are an excellent option.  Nature’s Resort offers a fun environment for your cabin-style living while placing you within a short ride to the Walt Disney World Resort. Can you imagine living close enough to the World to just drive there on the spur of the moment? The cabins will certainly make a wonderful retirement home, vacation home, or permanent residence for 10 additional families.

Have you ever thought of relocating to live closer to Walt Disney World?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

Disney begins working on Live Action Nutcracker Movie

MF

MF

It looks like Disney is getting into the holiday spirit with a Live Version of The Nutcracker!

Mixing parts of the ballet and the original E.T.A. Hoffman story ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ this project is titled “The Nutcracker And The Four Realms” penned by Ashleigh Powell. On tap to direct is Lasse Hallstrom. Best known for ‘Cider House Rules’ and ‘Chocolat’. Mark Gordon is producing and Lindy Goldstein is executive producing.

Some of the casting has already been announced. Mackenzie Foy (“Interstellar”, “The Conjuring”) will be playing Clara. Although this will be a non-musical version of the famed ballet story, there will be one sole dance sequence, performed by American Ballet Company’s Principal dancer Misty Copeland.

Just a few days ago word has come out that Morgan Freeman is in talks to play Drosselmeyer, the mysterious magician-like character and godfather of Clara in the play.

I’m very excited to see this project develop, and find out the direction it takes. What are your thoughts on this project?

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is A New Magical Journey

Cursed Child

Disney is my main love and passion, but I’m a sucker for fairy tales. Be them old or new, fantasy or sci-fi, I love a good story that tells a tale that will last a life time. With the release of the new Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildHarry Potter and the Cursed Child is A New Magical Journey Theatrical Play Book, I feel like it’s a modern tale for us all.

I wasn’t originally all that into Harry Potter in the beginning. I remember with fondness how much my little brother enjoyed them though. It wasn’t until I befriended one of my now best friends Hilary, that I fell in love with this new classic. I had always hoped that one day Disney Parks would have the Wizarding World. Alas Universal took the prize! It doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the stories, or the new book though! This release has had record breaking sales. Dare I say the book has brought a bit of magic back to the story world. I really feel it’s something that is also a great read for Disney fans. It really brings a different kind of fairy tale to life. This new story is the perfect dose of Magic. It will help keep me inspired while waiting for the next Disney Fairy Tale Movie.

I don’t know about you, but this magic loving girl is ready to dive in to a new tale of fantasy and heroism.

You can get Harry Potter and the Cursed childHarry Potter and the Cursed Child is A New Magical Journey as an E-Book or Hardcover now on Amazon.

Is the Great Movie Ride Closing in 2018?

GMR

GMR

Hey there Disney Gossip fans. I am back with the latest Disney Gossip! Today I have some juicy gossip from Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The latest gossip is that Disney is going to be closing down the The Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and replacing it with a new ride/attraction. It seems Turner Classic Movies is going to let their contract run out in 2018 and end their sponsorship of the ride. Word on the street is that they are replacing it with The Great Mickey Ride???

No information on what it would entail but I would imagine it would feature a certain Mouse named Mickey. But in all seriousness they are going to try to stick with the trackless ride experience.

I hear Disney is trying to do away with affiliations with outside companies and stick with their own in house brands like Marvel, Star Wars, etc. Makes sense.

As with all of my rumors as soon as something becomes official my boy Chip will post it.

That is all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my Facebook page

‘Frozen, a Musical Spectacular’ to begin on the Disney Cruise ship the Wonder this November

dclfr109284FI

If you were excited to hear the news a while back about a new Frozen musical that would be showing on the Disney Cruise Line’s ship, The Wonder, then you’ll be happy to know that an opening date of November 10, 2016 has officially been set. Disney announced the newest details on their blog:

Exciting news from the high seas today! For the “first time in forever,” the beloved animated hit “Frozen” is getting the Disney Cruise Line theatrical treatment as a new stage show exclusively aboard the Disney Wonder. “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” debuts, along with a wave of new enhancements to the ship, on cruises starting Nov. 10, 2016, from Galveston, Texas.

The story of royal sisters Anna and Elsa will be presented like never before, with an innovative combination of traditional theatrical techniques, modern technology and classic Disney whimsy, completely unique to the Disney Wonder production. The show features dynamic costumes and sets, remarkable special effects, and spectacular production numbers that expand upon the most imaginative elements of the film.

dclfr1092348

To adapt this blockbuster animated feature into a quintessential stage production, Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Executive Kevin Eld assembled a team of distinguished creative talent with Broadway credits and theatrical accolades. The production is led by Tony Award-nominated director Sheryl Kaller (“Next Fall,” “Mothers and Sons”). Joining the creative team are Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young (“Peter and the Starcatcher”), choreographer Josh Prince (“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”), scenic designer Jason Sherwood (“Paint Your Wagon”), and writer Sara Wordsworth (“In Transit”).

“Frozen, a Musical Spectacular” will feature music direction by Marco Paguia, projection design by Aaron Rhyne and lighting design by Rui Rita. Dynamic puppetry by Michael Curry, whose designs are featured in Disney’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The Lion King,” will bring exciting physicality to characters like Sven and Olaf.

It all sounds so magical to us! Will you be booking a cruise on the Wonder to enjoy the new exclusive stage show?

Art in August to Begin at Disney Springs

AJK097283

In case you missed it, you should know that last month, Disney announced their Disney Springs Grand Opening Summer Celebration. The summer-long celebration is to honor the newly renovated and re-imagined Disney Springs; the former Downtown Disney. With plenty of new shops and restaurants to check out, Disney Springs is quickly becoming one of the most exciting attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort for guests. In keeping with their plan to celebrate all summer long, Disney has announced that August will be the month of Art:

With tents set up throughout the promenade, guests can expect to find Disney artists like Don “Ducky” Williams, handmade treasures including jewelry from Jortra and stationary from Boiled Books, and unique keepsakes such as the latest Precious Moments Dolls from doll designer Linda Rick.
