“The BFG” unites the talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – to bring to life the classic tale of a courageous little girl named Sophie (newcomer Ruby Barnhill) and a gentle and charming Big Friendly Giant (Oscar®-winner Mark Rylance) who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. Spielberg employs a new, hybrid style of filmmaking blending live-action and performance-capture techniques, resulting in genuine, heartfelt performances and super-photorealistic animation.

Families and fans will be swept away by this spectacular adventure and delighted with the extensive bonus features including a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “The BFG” hosted by Ruby Barnhill and featuring Steven Spielberg; a charming, all-new short; a fun and whimsical tutorial on the Big Friendly Giant’s unique language of Gobblefunk; a touching tribute to screenwriter Melissa Mathison (“E.T. the Extraterrestrial,” “The Black Stallion”); and more.

Spielberg’s directorial debut with The Walt Disney Studios was a labor of love, as he’s been a fan of Dahl’s for years. In fact, he read “The BFG” to his own children when they were younger. According to Spielberg, “It’s a story about friendship; it’s a story about loyalty and protecting your friends; and it’s a story that shows that even a little girl can help a big giant solve his biggest problems.” “The BFG” is a Golden Phizzwizard* come true for Spielberg, Dahl fans and audiences around the world.

Bonus features include**:

BLU-RAY & DIGITAL HD:
• Bringing “The BFG” to Life – Ruby Barnhill (Sophie) hosts a wonderful journey through the making of “The BFG.” This behind-the-scenes documentary details the film’s progression through interviews with Roald Dahl’s daughter Lucy Dahl, screenwriter Melissa Mathison, executive producers Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Kristie Macosko Krieger, and numerous members of the talented cast and crew.

• The Big Friendly Giant and Me – Sophie wasn’t the first “bean” in Giant Country—many illustrations were created as if drawn by a little boy who was there long before Sophie. This charming, in-world short will bring the drawings to life with animation and narration, recounting the friendship and the dreams shared between the boy and the Big Friendly Giant.

• Gobblefunk: The Wonderful Words of The BFG – A whoopsey-splunkers tutorial on the meaning of the gloriumptious gobblefunk in “The BFG.”

• Giants 101 – Jemaine Clement (Fleshlumpeater) and Bill Hader (Bloodbottler) introduce us to the loathsome giants in “The BFG,” along with movement choreographer/motion capture performer Terry Notary, who collaborated with the actors and Director Steven Spielberg prior to filming to develop their movements and character traits.

• Melissa Mathison: A Tribute – An homage to Melissa Mathison, the extraordinary, Oscar®-nominated screenwriter of “The BFG” and “E.T.,” whose talent and heart were as immense as the giants in “The BFG.”

DIGITAL/VOD:
• John Williams: Scoring A Dream – A journey through the film’s concept art and memorable moments, interwoven with the sights and sounds of legendary composer John William’s scoring session.

“World of Color – Season of Light” Begins November 10th at Disney California Adventure Park

woc1280

Experience a world of color this holiday season at Disney California Adventure Park with “World of Color – Season of Light.” The new show will take place nightly from November 10, 2016 through January 8, 2017. Disney Parks Blog recently shared exciting new details about this all-new nighttime extravaganza inspired by “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” television series:

“Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” made its television debut 55 years ago this week, bringing the wonder of full-color programming to people across the country and introducing the world to Professor Ludwig Von Drake. That landmark show served as the inspiration behind the original “World of Color” when it debuted at Disney California Adventure park back in 2010. Much like the TV anthology series itself, “World of Color” has been presented in a number of versions and variations over the years, and for the 2016 holiday season, we’re celebrating the warmth and wonder of the holidays with a sparkling new winter fantasy.

“World of Color – Season of Light” combines classic holiday songs with memorable moments from treasured Disney animated films to create an experience that wraps you in the warm glow of holiday magic. From its mesmerizing start to its stunningly beautiful finale, “World of Color – Season of Light” illuminates the night and weaves together an emotional tapestry that will fill your heart with the spirit of the season.

The show begins with the last leaves of fall giving way to the arrival of winter, as Mickey and his pals decorate their homes for Christmas. Themes of love, home and family run throughout “World of Color – Season of Light,” with special appearances by Lady and Tramp, Andy’s family from “Toy Story,” a “Mele Kalikimaka” with Stitch and his ‘Ohana and a “Feliz Navidad” from the Three Caballeros. At one point in the show, Goofy goes all out in a spectacular ode to over-the-top holiday light displays … until his ode turns to overload and everything short circuits, leading to a “Blue Christmas” with Sadness from Disney•Pixar’s “Inside Out.”

Everything builds to a stunning grand finale, illuminating the lagoon with the light of hope and filling our hearts with the spirit of peace, joy and goodwill to all.  Are you excited to see “World of Color – Season of Light” this holiday season at Disney California Adventure Park?

Disney has pulled its controversial Moana costume after consumer complaints

moana

moana

Earlier this week we shared with you the news about Disney’s Moana costume and all the complaints it was receiving online. We have just received word that Disney has pulled its controversial “Moana” costume from their online store.

The costume based off the Dwayne Johnson’s character Maui from the film, consisted of a brown suit with tribal tattoos and leaf skirt.

Disney Released the following statement on Wednesday:

“The team behind ‘Moana’ has taken great care to respect the cultures of the Pacific Islands that inspired the film, and we regret that the Maui costume has offended some, “We sincerely apologize and are pulling the costume from our website and stores.”

Disney values their fans and I know would never intentionally offend anyone. Great job Disney!

Did you have a problem with the costume?

Movie Review – Disney’s Queen Of Katwe

img_2583

Queen of Katwe” is the true rags to riches story of Uganda native Phiona Mutesi. (played by Madina Naiwanga). It’s a story about her family that live in the poverty stricken town of Katwe , where she discovers the power of chess and goes on to play in the 41st Chess Olympiad.

This moving story begins with Phiona’s mother, Nakku Harriet (Lupita Nyong’o) a widow just trying to keep the family afloat, living in a shack with her 3 siblings. Phiona walks into town and fills huge containers of drinkable water for her family every morning and sells maze every afternoon. She and her sibling don’t attend school, because their mother can’t afford to send them. One day, she follows her brother to a church outreach sports program where ‘Coach’ Robert (David Oyelowo) is teaching the children the sport of chess.

img_2584

Filmed in the actual town of Katwe, filmmaker Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding”) boldly pulls no punches in presenting the dire conditions of the village. The direction of the children is lovely and light, it’s enjoyable to watch the growth of Phiona in her life, along with her brother and her friends. The story, originally told in an ESPN magazine article, is truly a testament to having a dream and pursuing it fully and how it can change your life. Bringing home the point that with the combination of belief in yourself and your community, love of friends and family and honest hard work and study, anyone can achieve anything. The charming capper to the film is, during the end credits where every actor was joined by their real life counter parts.

The only thing that I would change about this film is, there was so much story to tell and so much information that was crammed into two hours, it may have been more fully realized if they made it into a miniseries and took the time that was needed to fully tell it. But that’s just me.

img_2593

“Queen of Katwe” is a true gem and a wonderful reminder that not only are there great real life, feel good stories out there – there are great real life, feel good people out there too. Go see “Queen of Katwe” give it the props it deserves.

Mickey’s Halloween Party Begins Tonight at Disneyland

mhprt5896782

The very first Mickey’s Halloween Party returns for the 2016 season tonight, and the new “Frightfully Fun Parade” is ready to creep onto the streets of Disneyland.

Zero the ghost dog from “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” will be leading the way, with the Mayor of Halloweentown announcing the arrival of the one and only Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. Following them home are the grim, grinning ghosts of the Haunted Mansion. Ballroom dancers, gravediggers and hitchhiking ghosts all come out to socialize.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a “Frightfully Fun Parade” without appearances by the Disney Villains! Dr. Facilier holds court in his bayou Voodoo parlor, surrounded by some of his friends from the other side, while Maleficent in dragon form looms over a dark and dungeon-like lair where Hades, Jafar, Cruella De Vil and the Queen lurk, plotting their dastardly deeds.

mhprt5896783

Make sure to grab a good spot for the ride of the Headless Horseman which starts the “Frightfully Fun Parade.”

The all-new “Frightfully Fun Parade” will be presented exclusively during Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separately ticketed event at Disneyland park hosted over 17 nights, now through October 31. Tickets are available now, so get yours here before the event sells out.

Parking is not included in the ticket price and parking fees will apply. Mickey’s Halloween Party is a nonsmoking event. Smoking will be permitted in designated areas outside Disneyland park in the Main Entrance Plaza.

Mickey’s Halloween Party tickets are subject to availability and are valid only for specific event dates and hours. Space is limited and event dates may sell out. Limit eight (8) tickets per person, per event date. Tickets are nonrefundable and may not be resold. Tickets are not required for guests ages 2 and under. Costumes subject to Disney guidelines and should not be obstructive or offensive. Parking is not included. Subject to restrictions and change without notice. Disney Is Reserved About “Rogue One’s” Box Office Potential

SW

SW

Disney higher ups might have the impression “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” the first stand alone Star Wars film, won’t get the audience that “The Force Awakens” got. “We never felt it would do the level that ‘Force Awakens’ did,” Disney chief Bob Iger told investors at a Goldman Sachs conference, following a meeting with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy to talk about the “Star Wars” titles from 2021 and beyond.

Iger said that he has seen a recent rough cut of “Rogue One” and that “we love what we’ve seen.” That may not have always been the case. News broke, in May, that Disney executives were not happy with the “Rogue One” footage they saw and wanted reshoots. Since then, the studio has attempted to downplay the reshoot narrative, and even the film’s director Gareth Edwards spoke out that they were always planned like that.

Though Iger says that “interest in (‘Rogue One’) is as high as it was for ‘Force Awakens,'” his hint that it might not have the box office power that “The Force Awakens” had gives you the feeling that “Rogue One” will be a little less family friendly and more dramatic than what we’ve seen from Star Wars of old. “Rogue One” is scheduled to be released December 16th and I, for one, am looking forward to it!
