Special Artist Events to be Held at Disneyland in Celebration of Cars Land and ‘Cars 3’

Can you believe it’s been 5 years since Cars Land opened in California Adventure Park at Disneyland? To celebrate the opening and also the release of Cars 3 this weekend, Disneyland will be hosting two artist showcase events this month at Ramone’s House of Body Art inside California Adventure Park on June 17 and 24.

Lisa Bergman, merchandise product developer for WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District, was recently interviewed about the Disney-Pixar’s “Cars”-inspired artwork being showcased and had this to say:

“We are delighted to feature some of our WonderGround Gallery artists at Cars Land this month,” exclaimed Lisa. “Each artist will offer their own interpretation of the sights or characters found in this wonderfully immersive land. The best part about these events is our guests can meet these talented artists. These events are another fun way to celebrate an exciting month that starts with the release of Disney-Pixar’s ‘Cars 3’ in theaters on June 16.”

On June 17, guests can meet Jerrod Maruyama and Joey Chou from 2 to 4 p.m. Jerrod’s work (above left) is titled, “Cutest Little Town in Carburetor County,” while Joey’s art (above right) is called, “Race Around Radiator Springs.”

Jeff Granito (“Cruising to Ka-Chow”), Max Grundy (“Flomotion”), Michael Murphy (“Cozy Cone Arrival”), and Michelle Bickford will appear on June 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. Michelle will offer two pieces – “New Wheels!” (shown above) and “Cars Land Panorama” (the latter is an one-of-a-kind original piece of artwork).

While visiting Ramone’s House of Body Art, check out some of the newest Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers products. Guests will find apparel and accessories for adults and kids including a new Radiator Springs Racers logo pin.

For all Artist Showcase events, there is a limit of two items signed per artist, per guest. Disney kindly ask guests do not bring personal items to be signed. Appearances are subject to time and availability and are not guaranteed. Separate admission is required to enter Disney California Adventure park.

Cruz Ramirez from Cars 3 is on Her Way To Disney California Adventure Park

This Summer, “Cars” fans heading to Disney California Adventure are in for a special treat. Cruz Ramirez, the newest in a long line of much-loved “Cars” characters will be joining her cohorts, Lightning McQueen and Mater in Cars Land starting today (June 16th).

In the latest installation of the “Cars” franchise Cruz Ramirez is a technician at Rusteze Racing Center where her job is to train the rookies. When she meets Lighting McQueen she quickly realizes that that she has aspirations to be out on the track instead of on the sidelines. The character is voiced by Cristela Alonzo who recently surprised guests at Disney California Adventure.

So head on over to Disney California Adventure Park for some Cars-themed fun. For those that can’t make it to parks, “Cars 3” is officially out in theaters starting today so pop on over to your local cinema and check out what is bound to be one of the must-see movies of the Summer.

Disney Debuts New Fashion Series for Aspiring Designers

Disney recently debuted a new fashion series for aspiring designers called Disney Design Challenge. This new series follows 12 young designers who have been challenged to design collections inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ blockbuster “Frozen.”

Hosted by fashion blogger Candy Washington, Disney Design Challenge’s first episode introduces us to a group of talented young students at the famed OTIS College of Arts and Design in Los Angeles. The designers will go head-to-head to create a Frozen-inspired clothing line, seen through the lens of Los Angeles’ bustling fashion scene.

The final episode will feature three winners who will have their collections recreated available for purchase immediately after at Nineteenth Amendment, the iconic straight-off-the-runway fashion destination – and receive a full scholarship for their final year of fashion school.

New episodes (previously teased at NewFronts) will go live every Friday this summer on Disney Style’s YouTube Channel.

Mother Uses Popular Crowd Sourcing Site, GoFundMe, to Raise Money For Disney World Trip

UK Mother, Nikki Smith, wanted to take she and her daughters on a trip of a lifetime to Walt Disney World. With only part-time employment, she never thought she would be able to afford the trip before her daughters, ages 10 and 12, would be too old to experience all the magic. So, she decided to create a GoFundMe.com account to raise the money to fund the holiday. Smith said, “I love my children and my job. I’m a carer and I haven’t been able to get any more hours at work. Nights are not easy to come by, I do try.”

Smith’s initial goal was 5,000 pounds which is equal to about $6,389.32 in American dollars. She surpassed that goal and is already over the 7,000 pound mark or $8,944.98.

Even though her page was shared over 18,000 times on Facebook, she was still met with much criticism from others. Smith is quoted as saying, “Some of the comments were disgusting… People have been comparing me to a homeless beggar and things like that. I’m absolutely traumatized by it all… I don’t go on my Facebook any more because all my friends have been sharing it and I’m quite scared about my children going to school and being picked on.”

To thank everyone that contributed to reaching her goal, Smith posted, “I just want to thank you all again, we are going to Disneyworld summer 2018… I will post pics when we are back ! You are all angels … xxx”

I attempted to see what the current total raised for the campaign but it appears to have been taken down or ended.

Cars: Lightning League Now Available at Apple App Store and Google Play

Cars mania has definitely hit. Those excited about the release of the Cars 3 film this weekend may also want to take part in the action by downloading the new Cars: Lightning League mobile game either via the Apple App Store or Google Play. It was announced that the game will also be available soon from the Amazon App Store.

Here’s a sneak peek at the games trailer!

The game gives players the opportunity to race alongside some of their favorite Cars friends including Lightning McQueen, Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm. The premise is that after a devastating crash, McQueen’s racing career may be over. That’s where you come in. Players are tasked with helping McQueen train for a speedy comeback.

In addition to the races, gamers are also able to build their own collection of cars including Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez. Additional features include: visiting iconic places like Radiators Springs, completing missions to gain new upgrades, and through challenges unlocking the ability to upgrade your cars and blow away the competition.

Shanghai Disney Resort Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Shanghai Disney Resort recently celebrated an amazing first year of operation that had over 11 million guests pass visit the resort. The one year celebration included floating lanterns representing good fortune for the past, present and future. The lanterns hovered above Shanghai Disneyland during a magical nighttime celebration at Enchanted Storybook Castle, commemorating the resort’s historic anniversary and tremendous popularity with the people of mainland China.

Guests were also treated to “When You Wish Upon a Star,” a montage of photos and videos highlighting events of the first year at Shanghai Disney Resort projected on the Enchanted Storybook Castle.

“Shanghai Disney Resort’s first anniversary is cause for great celebration for everyone involved in bringing this spectacular dream to life,” said Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “We’re grateful to the people of China for making this unique destination a tremendous success — more than 11 million guests have already visited, and we look forward to welcoming many more in the years to come.”

The Shanghai Disney Resort rises above the other Disney Resorts in several areas. First, Shanghai Disney has the biggest, tallest castle in any Disney park as well as had the first pirate-themed land. Shanghai Disney’s is also the most technologically advanced park to date.

Shanghai Disneyland is a magical theme park with six themed lands including Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Treasure Cove and Adventure Isle. Two imaginatively designed hotels, a Disneytown shopping and dining district, and Wishing Star Park recreational area are also a part of the Shanghai Disney Resort. The resort has already announced its first post-opening expansion, a new immersive land themed to the Toy Story franchise that is set to open in 2018.

BLUE Monorail Being Evacuated Possibly Due To Monorail Piece Falling Off

**UPDATE: Disney Spokesperson says monorail was was down for 20 minutes but is back up and running now. The BLUE monorail was able to make it back to the station so there was no need for evacuations. No reports of injuries. Crews isolated the malfunctioning monorail car on the rail and appeared to be inspecting a part of the track using a lift.

Monorail BLUE is currently being evacuated after what looks like a large piece of the monorail fell off. All monorail lines are currently suspended at this time.

Dockside Margaritas Pays Tribute to Pleasure Island With Summer Drinks Menu

Walt Disney World visitors with fond memories of Disney Spring’s old Pleasure Island District will want to stop by Dockside Margaritas starting on June 29th for a very special #ThrowbackThursday promotion.

Dockside will be recreating some of the Pleasure Island’s famed libations including Adventurers Club’s much- loved signature drink the Kungaloosh which will be available for $9.

According to a post on WDW News Today, other favorites that are being revived for this fun Summer offer include the Techn-o, Bell Bottom, and Thriller that used to be served up at the old 8-Trax nightclub, Armadillo Punch from Neon Armadillo, Punch Line from Comedy Warehouse, Hoopla from Mannequins, and the Pleasure Punch and Funmeister.

WDW News Today is reporting that the drinks will rotate on a weekly basis but that the Kungaloosh will remain a weekly staple.

For guests looking for a non-alcoholic drink, Dockside will also be serving up Emil’s Strawberry Colada also from the Adventurers Club for $5.00.

Be sure to head on over to Disney Springs to enjoy these tasty treats which will be available every Thursday until September 28th. . Dockside Margaritas can’t be found in Disney Springs Marketplace District and is typically open from 12pm to either 10:30 or 11:00 pm.

The Ultimate Disney S’mores Are Now Being Made At The Ganachery In Disney Springs

Stop the presses! Have you heard about the new Ultimate Disney S’mores being made at The Ganachery in Disney Springs? These scrumptious treats are made-to-order and you can even watch your S’more being created in The Ganachery’s show kitchen. The best part is watching the marshmallow being toasted with a blowtorch (see video below)!

The Ultimate Disney S’more is made with two homemade graham crackers topped with cinnamon and sugar. Both crackers are spread with a salted caramel ganache. The ganache is then sprinkled with sea salt.

Next a homemade vanilla bean marshmallow, made from scraped Madagascan vanilla beans, is toasted with a blowtorch. The heating process caramelizes the sugar on the marshmallow with the flame.

Once the marshmallow has been placed on the ganache, a custom blend of chocolate called “Dark 65” is laid on top. “Dark 65” has been specially prepared in sheet form with the Ganachery’s logo. It is a single origin chocolate with beans harvested from the Dominican Republic. The 65 means that 65% of chocolate came from the cocoa bean.

Finally, the S’more is assembled and a Mickey silhouette made of powdered sugar is placed on top. Watch the video above to see the Ultimate Disney S’more being made from start to finish.

These amazing treats are priced at $8 each. Currently The Ganachery does not participate in the Disney Dining Plan.
