There is no denying that Mickey Ear Hats are one of the most iconic Disney Parks icons. Of course these days, people love a little bit of extra magic even at Disney! These hats are purchased directly from Disneyland and all embellishments are placed by hand. I also love that they are Disneyland hats, since even I am guilty of giving Walt Disney World all the Disney love sometimes too! Kaitlyn Johnson Wins Emotional Disney Princess Half Marathon
After her cousin Gabrielle Arcangeli of Harmony, Fla., was tragically killed in a car crash last summer, Kaitlyn Johnson was determined to honor her cousin’s memory by running Sunday in the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Suffice to say, she did that and a lot more, outpacing the field of more than 24,000 runners to win her first-ever half marathon.
Johnson, a biomechanical engineering PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, ran along with more than 35 of Arcangeli’s family and friends who also participated in the race weekend in honor of Arcanegli, who ran the race last year.
“Our whole family is here, so it’s great fun because we are all here in honor of my cousin,’’ Johnson said. “And I think that’s helpful in the healing process.’’
Johnson, originally from Westfield, New Jersey, had little trouble getting to the finish line ahead of everyone else, flying around the 13.1-mile course at Walt Disney World Resort in 1:22:16 – nearly three minutes ahead of second-place finisher Heather Schulz of Orlando (1:24:53). Jennifer Berry of Denver was third (1:25:49).
“I felt good from the beginning,’’ Johnson said. “It was so fun running by the Grand Floridian (Resort), where I used to stay (when we visited Walt Disney World Resort) when I was growing up, and Splash Mountain, which is my favorite ride. It was a fun time.’’
The half marathon was the finishing touch on the multi-race weekend which included Kids Races, the Disney Princess 5K and the Disney Princess Enchanted 10K, plus a Health & Fitness Expo. In all, more than 52,000 runners participated in the race weekend, making it the largest women-focused race weekend in the nation.
The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is the third race in runDisney’s nine-race series that encompasses Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris. Next up is the Star Wars Half Marathon – The Dark Side (April 20-23) at Walt Disney World Resort and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend presented by PANDORA Jewelry (May 11-14) at Disneyland Resort. Chef Art Smith’s Homecoming at Disney Springs Changes Name to Homecomin’
Visitors to the website for Chef Art Smith’s Disney Springs restaurant may notice that there’s been a bit of a name change. The restaurant has dropped the g- now calling itself Homecomin’ rather than Homecoming. This is a move that seems more in keeping with the southern style of this Florida kitchen which serves up tried-and-true down home favorites like deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, fried chicken and shrimp and grits.
The restaurant, which opened up in The Landing section of Disney Springs last summer has already become a Walt Disney World Resort favorite. So next time you’re in the area, don’t miss your opportunity to sample the amazing dishes dreamed up by Florida’s much-loved celebrity chef who’s credits include spending several years as the personal chef to Oprah Winfrey.
Prices at Homecomin’ range from $15 – $39 per adult. For visitors on the Disney Dining Plan, a meal at Homecomin’ will set you back 1 Table Service Credit. The restaurant also participates in Tables in Wonderland.

Bill Paxton Dies At 61
We were all quite shocked this morning hearing of the passing of the iconic and diverse actor Bill Paxton. He isn’t known as a Disney staple but he has acted in a few of their films – “Spy Kids 2 & 3”, “Might Joe Young”, “Million Dollar Arm” and most recently an early regular of ABC’s “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Paxton’s family released this statement:
“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery. A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.”
He was 61, and is survived by his second wife and two children.

Disney Releases Commercial Showing Guests Walking Through Pandora: The World of Avatar
With Pandora: The World Of Avatar slated to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in just a few short months, Walt Disney World is now starting to heavily promote the magical land of the Na’vi through a series of new commercials.
The latest version shows actual footage of a family walking through the World of Avatar as well as snapshots of what the landscape will look like in this amazing re-creation of the moon made famous in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.

Joffrey’s New Fair Trade Coffee Helps Peruvian Communities
Joffrey’s Coffee is proud to work with Disney and their partner, Conservation International to promote sustainable coffee farming in Peru!
Guests dining at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are supporting conservation efforts and the livelihoods of Peruvian farmers simply by ordering a new blend of coffee.
Building on its rich legacy of conserving the environment, Disney is joining Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company to introduce an exclusive high-quality, organic press pot coffee that will be served in select restaurants beginning this month and additional table-service restaurants later this spring.
The coffee was grown in Peru’s Alto Mayo Protected Forest. Since 2009, The Walt Disney Company has worked with Conservation International to support deforestation efforts in the forest – a protected part of the Amazon rainforest where much of Peru’s organic coffee is grown. Although a protected forest, unsustainable coffee-farming practices have continued to plague the area and increased deforestation threats.
Disney and Conservation International (CI) collaborated to offer locals training in sustainable farming methods, such as growing coffee in the shade, making organic compost, pruning coffee trees and learning methods to avoid coffee-leaf rust diseases.
The results have been impressive and have impacted more than 240,000 people whose well-being depends on the Alto Mayo Basin. Farmers have as much as tripled their production yield of coffee, improved the quality of the coffee and began earning more money for their premium coffee. They have also stopped cutting down trees to expand their farming areas.
Now, Disney guests can enjoy the very coffee that’s changing the lives of these farmers. Guests can also purchase packages of Alto Mayo Protected Forest Coffee Roasted by Joffrey’s Coffee at Joffreys.com.

Aerial Photos Show Progress of Toy Story and Star Wars Lands in Hollywood Studios
Progress is definitely being made in the new Toy Story and Star War Lands at Hollywood Studios. NearMap has provided some fascinating satellite imagery of the development of each of these lands.
For Toy Story and Star Wars fans the opening dates for each of these areas cannot get here soon enough, so it is exciting to get a glimpse at some of the construction updates. Toy Story Land is expected to open sometime in 2018 followed by Star Wars Land in 2019.
If you look closely at the development of the Toy Story Land you can see the layout of Slinky Dog, a brand new family roller coaster, as well as the Alien Swirling monsters attraction. This 11-acre area is located adjacent to Toy Story Mania and will offer an oversized perspective of Andy’s backyard including gigantic building blocks and game pieces as well as your favorite Toy Story characters.
At 14 acres, the new Star Wars Land will be the largest land at Walt Disney World. It is located in the southwest corner of Hollywood Studios and will offer two new signature attractions including one that will allow you to take control of the Millennium Falcon.

2nd MagicBand Patent Infrigement Lawsuit Filed Against Disney
According to Law360 a second patent infringement suit was filed against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts on February 24. The lawsuit accusing Walt Disney Parks and Resorts of stealing patented technology for use in its MagicBand products that monitor park attendance and purchases made by guests.
The sons of the now-deceased inventor of the patent allege in the lawsuit that Disney’s MagicBand portable electronic devices use their father’s patented system of wirelessly connecting devices. They are seeking an injunction and damages in an amount to be determined at trial and nothing less than a reasonable royalty. The brothers inherited the rights to their father’s Communication and Proximity Authorization Systems patent that was issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in December 2002.
The suit claims that Disney’s MagicBands use the patented wireless communication technology used to track guests and to give guests access to services around the Disney theme parks. The claim also mentions that the MagicBands communication with other short- and long-range device readers within the Walt Disney World Resort, to receive predetermined services, like access to park rides. Those services can be activated through authorization codes, which is also described in the patent.
Disney faced its first infringement suit over the MagicBands in April 2015. In that lawsuit filed by InCom Corp. it was alleged that they had developed three patents since 2008 for attendance tracking and that MagicBands use that technology.
They claimed Disney infringed on its patents that use a radio frequency identification, or RFID, to recognize guests and keep track of their attendance. Prior to InCom’s inventions, there was no suitable product using RFID to keep track of people’s whereabouts, it stated InCom’s complaint. Walt Disney and InCom reached a confidential agreement which ended the suit in August.
