Lilo’s Playhouse at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Offer Family Activities During the Day

Lilo’s Playhouse, is one of a handful of Children’s Activity Centers at Walt Disney World that provide parents with childcare (complete with fun-filled evening activities for the kids ) while the grown-ups enjoy an evening to themselves. Located at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort it was announced that this fun, interactive center will soon be opening its doors to all resort guests starting at 10:30am for a day packed with fun family activities.

In an article published today at wdwinfo.com it was revealed that starting on July 2, 2017, Walt Disney World Resort guests will be able to enjoy a variety of complimentary family-friendly activities including arts and crafts, video games and more. Guests should note there may be a fee for select arts and crafts workshops.

All children are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

At 4:00 pm each afternoon the Playhouse will close and will re-open at 4:30 pm as a drop-off childcare center location. The cost for the evening program is $55 per child for the duration of the evening. Nightly offerings may include:

Lava Flow
Learn all about physics! Build paper mountain volcanoes then watch them explode—just like the real thing.
Ratatouille Cooking School
Join a specially trained cookie chef and learn how to make chocolate chip goodies fit for the toughest food critic—even Remy would agree.
So You Want To Be a Pirate?
Leave your landlubber ways behind—train like a buccaneer and come face to face with Captain Hook.

Activities are subject to change. Reservations can be made in advance. Same day walk-ins are also welcome based on availability.

Residents of Several States Will Need Passports for Air Travel in 2018

Beginning on January 22, 2018, if you live in one of these nine states, you will be required to have a passport to fly to Disney or any other domestic locations. The states are:

Kentucky
Maine
Minnesota
Missouri
Montana
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Washington

The Department of Homeland Security will also allow a Military ID or Permanent Resident Card to pass through TSA checkpoints if you do not already have a passport.

The change for these nine state comes from them not complying with the Real ID Act of 2005. The Act requires states to have driver’s licenses that “verify every ID applicant’s identity, put anti-counterfeit technology in the production of the card and conduct background checks on those who issue driver’s licenses.”

States on this list may be given an extension if they start to change their ID process. As of today, only 24 state are complaint including Washington DC and the rest have been given an extension. By 2020 it will be mandatory for states to have changed their ID processes and be in compliance with the Act,

Signs like this one have started popping up at airports across the country including Orlando International Airport preparing travelers for the change.

5 Year Old Air Lifted To Hospital After Drowning Scare At Art of Animation

Earlier today, a 5 year old at the Art of Animation was involved in a water emergency. The Reedy Creek Fire Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a possible drowning and arrived at the scene to investigate.

The child was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children as a precaution and they are now being reported as stable and “well”.

We will update you as we hear additional information.

Disney Sand Magic Brings Beautiful Disney-inspired Creations to the Beaches of Belgium

Each year the beaches of Ostend Belgium erupt with Disney character when sand artists from around the world gather to create amazing Disney works of art.

The Disney Sand Magic festival is the end product of 40 professional artists who work with over 240 trucks of special sand over a one month period to create an amazing visitors circuit featuring so many Disney scenes that it takes nearly an hour to see it all. Here are just a few of the highlights:

The sand sculpture festival is officially the largest of its kind in the world (Guinness Book of Records 2010) and this Summer will feature new, classic and upcoming films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

Disney Sand Magic runs from June 24th until September 10th with opening hours from 10am – 7pm. Specially laid paths mean that the exhibit is available for wheelchair users and the trail is approximately 0.6 miles long.

The cost of admission is €12,00 per adult. Students, seniors wheelchair users are invited for the reduced price of €10.00. Children between the ages of 4 and 11 are admitted for €8.00. Children under the age of 4 are free.

Disneyland Paris, Annual Passholders and staff will receive 50% off admission.

Michael Keaton Cast as Villain in New Dumbo Live-Action Film

This morning (June 26th, 2017) on Good Morning America, Michael Keaton confirmed the rumor he will be joining the cast of the upcoming Dumbo live-action film. Keaton will be playing the role of the Vandemere, an evil big top circus villain. He is the fourth actor to be cast for a part in the movie, joining:

Eva Green – Colette
Colin Farrell – Holt
Danny DeVito – Medici

The new live-action movie directed by Tim Burton, making this the fourth film Keaton and Burton have worked on together. Michael had starring roles in three Burton films: Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), and Batman Returns (1992)

Michael is no newcomer to the Disney family, he played Ray Peyton Sr. in Disney’s Herbie Fully Loaded (2005.) He also lent his voice to two Disney/Pixar movies, as Chick Hicks in Cars (2006) and Ken in Toy Story 3.

The Bengal Barbecue located in Adventureland at Disneyland park has some noteworthy recent additions to its menu. Here’s a look at a few of the offerings now available to guests.

Ahi Poke Spring Roll – This delectable new menu item features marinated Ahi tuna, lettuce, carrots, daikon, pickled cucumber, cilantro, Thai basil, mint, sliced jalapeños and wasabi mayo rolled in a rice paper wrap. The dish comes with a side of ginger dipping sauce.

Hummus Trio – This dish consists of three house-made varieties of hummus including; jalapeño, black bean, red pepper and feta. The dish is served with an assortment of fresh vegetables.

Jungle Julep –This tropical slush combines the flavors of grape, orange, pineapple and lemon. Its the perfect beverage for Summer sipping!

The El Capitan Theatre Will Be Presenting “The Lion King Sing-Along” With Live Appearance By Timon

The El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood will be presenting “The Lion King Sing-Along” August 4 through August 20. Adults and kids alike will be excited to sing-a-long with Simba, a spunky little lion cub who just couldn’t wait to be king. Don’t worry if you can’t remember all the words. Lyrics to the songs will be displayed on the screen during the songs. As an added bonus, Lion King fans will be excited to hear that Timon will be live on-stage warming up the crowd before every showtime.

Showtimes for this movie event are 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm. Starting August 11th a 7:00 showing will be added. All seating is reserved seating, so go to The El Capitan Theatre’s website to buy your tickets ahead of time.

Ticket prices are $14 for adults and $11 for children (3-11) and seniors (60+). There are also VIP tickets for $23 which include VIP Preferred Seat, popcorn in an El Capitan Theatre souvenir popcorn tub and a 20 oz. drink.

Walt Disney’s Original Disneyland Map Sold At Auction To Unknown Buyer

The hand-drawn map of Disneyland created by Walt Disney and Herb Ryman has been sold at auction for $708,000 in Los Angeles. Used by Disney, this presentation map helped secure the initial funding of Disneyland in 1953. The auction also featured close to 1,000 other Disney artifacts.

Originally the Disneyland map was expected to be sold for $900,000. But even at $708,000, this map believed to be the most expensive Disneyland map ever sold. The new owner’s name still has not been announced to the public.

“As we had expected, this extraordinary Disneyland map sold for an outstanding price. After some pretty exciting bidding the map sold for $708,000,” said Mike Van Eaton, Co-Owner of Van Eaton Galleries. “We are beyond thrilled that the map will continue to be appreciated and cherished just like it has been for all these years.”

Other iconic highlights of the auction included a rare Haunted Mansion hitchhiking ghost animatronic shirt, an original model of Michael Jackson from the Captain EO attraction, an original ride vehicle from Autopia, and an extremely rare opening-day Disneyland Guide Book signed by Walt Disney.

Animal Planet Highlights Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Alive with Magic

Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Animal Planet have teamed up to produce a one-hour documentary style show that will take viewers on a a journey through the landscape of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. The show, Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Alive with Magic, will premiere on Tuesday, June 27 on Animal Planet.

Disney Parks Blog gives us a little insight of what to expect to see:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Alive with Magic will feature interviews with the creators and caretakers of this theme park who share conservation messages, reveal immersive encounters with wildlife, as well as peek into the natural habitats of the animals who call Disney’s Animal Kingdom home. The TV special also showcases the can’t-miss attractions and entertainment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as it transforms from a day-into-nighttime park.

There’s also exclusive footage of the new Pandora – The World of Avatar, including interviews with iconic filmmaker James Cameron whose vision of flying on a banshee and sailing through a bioluminescent rainforest becomes a reality.
