Get Ready: Porto’s Bakery Construction Begins in Downtown Disney!

Construction is about to commence on the much-anticipated Porto’s Bakery in Downtown Disney, a project first revealed three years ago. This will necessitate changes for the existing Earl of Sandwich restaurant, which operates nomadically. Disneyland has secured demolition permits for the space previously occupied by La Brea Bakery, paving the way for the future Porto’s Bakery within the outdoor shopping area bordering Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The OC Register reports that permits submitted to the Anaheim Planning and Building Department outline the planned demolition of the 2,600-square-foot La Brea Bakery and two neighboring Disneyland ticket booths. This includes the capping of all utilities and the removal of the existing foundation. Previously, Porto’s Bakery & Cafe officials announced their intention to begin construction on their Downtown Disney establishment in 2025.

Porto’s Bakery’s choice to establish a Downtown Disney presence on the former La Brea Bakery property was met with considerable enthusiasm when revealed at the D23 Expo in 2022 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Despite La Brea Bakery’s closure in early 2023 to prepare for Porto’s arrival, construction did not proceed according to the initial timeline.

Porto’s Bakery to Begin New Construction in Downtown Disney

As Porto’s Bakery’s plans for the east end of Downtown Disney were paused, the former La Brea Bakery became a temporary Earl of Sandwich location. Adding to its presence, Earl of Sandwich set up a temporary trailer on the west end of Downtown Disney, adjacent to the Star Wars Trading Post, in 2024. Currently, both temporary locations are serving guests.

The original Earl of Sandwich was demolished in 2022 along with other businesses like the AMC Theatre as part of the ongoing renovation of the west end of Downtown Disney, which will soon feature a new two-story Earl of Sandwich with a walk-up counter, the sit-down Earl of Sandwich Tavern, and an upstairs bar, expected to open later this year, marked by a topping-off ceremony this week.

The left outfit consists of an orange, long-sleeved shirt with a mandarin collar and button closure, layered beneath a patterned vest showcasing a diamond-like design in earthy browns and golds. Completing this look are dark brown or black tailored pants, while the vest is accented with a brown trim featuring a colorful inner strip and a decorative button.

The right outfit mirrors the orange mandarin-collared shirt and patterned vest with the multicolored trim, but adds a dark brown blazer worn over the vest, allowing only a glimpse of the vest’s design.
