New Update for My Disney Experience App – Now Order and Pay For Food From Your Phone

My Disney Experience

My Disney Experience

This morning a new update was released for the My Disney Experience app. This release will add new functionality to allow guests to both order their food and pay for it right from their phone! This is an amazing step forward to alleviating those long quick-service counter lines!

My Disney Experience

It does look like this new feature will begin at select restaurants coinciding with opening day of Pandora – The World of Avatar. Currently only Pizzafari and Satu’li Canteen are listed as potential dining options. It is unclear at this time how this will interact with using Disney Dining Plan credits.

New Update for My Disney Experience App - Now Order and Pay For Food From Your Phone

Another new feature included with this release is that notifications can be sent to a guest when new PhotoPass photos are available to view. This is a feature that can be turned on and off depending on your preferences. Also, guests will now be able to see additional reservation resort details like their room type and location from their phone.

At the time of this article being published, only the update for iphones had been released. We expect the Android version to be available very shortly.

Are you planning to visit Florida in 2017? According to Florida Governor, Rick Scott, tourists are flocking to the Sunshine State in record numbers.

On Monday, Governor Scott will pay a visit to Miami’s Jungle Island, to announce that over 31 million people have visited the State in the first 3 months of the year; a 2.5 percent increase from the same time period in 2016. Almost 113 million tourist visited Florida in 2016, the majority, from the U.S..

Scott also plans to warn that possible cuts coming to Florida’s tourism marketing agency, could threaten continued growth. It was recently voted by state legislators, to cut funding to Visit Florida by 67 percent. Scott has hinted that he may veto the budget, but if he signs the new state budget, the cuts will go into effect in July.

Pandora-The World of Avatar Annual Passholder Preview Review

Pandora-The World of Avatar Annual Passholder Preview Review

Animal Kingdom has begun opening the doors to Pandora-The World of Avatar for special Preview dates and times. The Annual Passholder Previews began on Saturday,  May 13th, and we were lucky enough to grab the very first time slot that day from 12:00pm-2:00pm.  Here is our Review of the Annual Passholder Preview for Pandora-The World of Avatar.

We have to begin by saying this is absolutely the most organized Preview/Event we have experienced at the Walt Disney World Resort.  Cast Members were fantastic and they kept things moving along appropriately.  We could not officially line up until 11:00am; one hour before the Magical doors to Pandora-The World of Avatar were scheduled to open for us.  The atmosphere in the line, waiting for the line, was jovial with people taking Selfies, getting to know one another, and sharing the excitement for the Annual Passholder Preview.  At 11:00am we moved forward from the line for the line, up to the actual line to get in.  We were then given one FastPass each for Avatar Flight of Passage, with a return time. Disney was very strict on this and you could only arrive during your window to ride; not before, and certainly not after so be aware of that if you will be attending an Annual Passholder Preview  in the near future.  We were then told by a Cast Member that we would be admitted in about 45 minutes.  Much to our surprise, 45 seconds later, the door opened and we were admitted up to the entrance point.  About 5 minutes later we were admitted to Pandora-The World of Avatar.

As we entered the Valley of Mo’ara, Pandora, the only word we could utter in that first moment was, “Wow!”   The greenery, the structures, the trees and the magnificent colors all blend together for a breath-taking experience. Pictures cannot do this area justice and is a must-see in person for the full effect of the area.

Pandora-The World of Avatar Annual Passholder Preview Review

Pandora-The World of Avatar is not currently listed on the Animal Kingdom Park Map as they are not officially open.  You will receive a Preview map upon entry to this amazing new land.

We headed straight for the Na’vi River Journey.  The entrance has a FastPass+ entrance, as well as a Stand-by entrance.  There were no FastPasses this day.  The Stand-by queue is simply magnificent with greenery, waterfalls, and a covered area with lovely lighting.  We were particularly fascinated with the hydration station we came across along the queue area.

The Na’vi River Journey ride is beautiful with all of the Bioluminescent features, the music, and the relaxation of this boat meandering along the Na’vi River.  The Shaman of Songs is magnificent and Disney has done a fabulous job incorporating the newest technology into this audio-animatronic.  The loading area, and unloading area, are side-by-side.

We rode Na’vi River Journey twice then headed over to Avatar Flight of Passage for our FastPass return time.  The FastPass queue takes you around the outside of the ride.  You enter a space where you receive your first briefing about the Ikran, or Banshees, with an explanation of how you will become your own Avatar prior to riding your Banshee.  You then enter a concrete hallway and head up to the entry space for the ride.  We entered the second phase space where an Avatar was matched to each of us.  Before entering the room with the Ikrans, or Banshees, we were told there was not photography allowed at that point.  We were handed a pair of clear goggles and entered the next room, where we stored our bags in compartments directly behind our Banshee, and then sat on our Banshee.  The seat itself is a cross between a motorcycle seat and a snowmobile seat.  A safety bar comes up behind you so that you are all the way forward against another bar that curves around the front of you.  At that point, you will feel a series of vibrations as you become one with your selected Avatar.  The ride experience itself is very good.  It is a simulator-style ride where you are facing a large screen.  The sensations are quite realistic as you feel the wind in your hair, the dips and turns you take with your Banshee, the mist in your face and of course the sound, and the feeling, of your Banshee breathing.

The Stand-by queue for Avatar Flight of Passage is interior and is, without a doubt, a must-see.  While you will want to have a FastPass+ for your first ride, if possible, the Stand-by queue is definitely worth a look.  You will see handprints from the Na’vi people  (3 fingers with a thumb), Mountain Banshee Project signs, Ikran Skeleton Head, Egg to Lizard informational stop, and of course the amazing Avatar.  We know he is an Avatar because he has four fingers and a thumb.

See our video of the Avatar located along the Avatar Flight of Passage Stand-by queue here:

See our short video of the Egg to Fan Lizard along the Avatar Flight of Passage Stand-by queue here:

We had lunch at the Satu’li Canteen and it was really good.  The Disney Dining Plan is accepted there.  We will be following up with a Review of this new restaurant in the next day or so.  Stay tuned to the Chip and Company Facebook page for this pending Lunch Review of Satu’li Canteen.

The overall Annual Passholder Preview experience of Pandora-The World of Avatar was very good.  We found it to be quite organized and we expect that Disney has a plan in place for opening weekend as well.  While FastPass+ is certainly the way to go, one important note here is that the Stand-by queues are magnificent and we highly recommend experiencing these as well.  We will be there opening day during the evening for extended hours and are looking forward to experienceing Pandora-The World of Avatar at night.

Pandora-The World of Avatar’s Satu’li Canteen Lunch Review

Pandora-The World of Avatar's Satu'li Canteen Lunch Review

The Satu’li Canteen in Pandora-The World of Avatar is now open for DVC and Annual Passholder Previews.  We visited Satu’li on May 13th during our Annual Passholder Preview and decided to try lunch at this new restaurant.  Here is our Lunch Review of Satu’li Canteen in Pandora-The World of Avatar.

As you enter Satu’li Canteen the ordering, and pick-up, station is located to the left.  You can pick up a menu or just take a look at the overhead menus on display.  The Disney Dining Plan is accepted here and a meal will cost you one Quick Service Dining Credit.  You can choose to create your own Satu’li Bowl or a Steamed Pods Bao Bun Meal.  Kids’ Meals are also available.

Beverages vary from soft drinks, to Specialty drinks with, and without, alcohol.  We ordered the Moonwalker Sangria which is actually a blue Sangria.  This drink was fruity and quite tasty.  You also have the option to purchase your non-alcoholic beverages in a Na’vi Flute Cup for $13.49.  The Flute does detach from the cup and can be used as a musical instrument.

For our meals we ordered the Cheeseburger “Pods” meal, the Create Your Own Satu’li Bowl, and the Teylu All Beef Hot Dog Kids’ Meal.  The Cheeseburger “Pods” Meal was interesting.  We particularly liked the Slaw with the Boba.  The Cheeseburger Pods were a combination of seasoned ground beef, mixed with chunks of beef, and wrapped in a “Pod.”  This was good, although not our favorite as we thought the “Pod” was a bit dry for our taste.  For the Create Your Own Satu’li Bowl we ordered the Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef from Step 1, the Mixed Whole Grain & Rice from Step 2, and asked for samplings on the side of all 3 sauces (Charred Onion Chimichurri, Black Bean Vinaigrette & Creamy Herb Dressing).  This meal was our favorite with the beef being cooked beautifully; full of flavor and moist.  The sauces were all good with each of us agreeing that the Black Bean Vinaigrette was our favorite sauce option.  We also ordered the Teylu All Beef Hot Dog Kids’ Meal with chips and grapes.  The Hot Dog was wrapped in a dough that was similar in texture and flavor to a soft biscuit.

When visiting Walt Disney World Calories don’t count and no meal is complete without dessert, also known as “Ber’ri” in the Na’vi language.  You can choose from Chocolate Cake and Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse.  We ordered one of each and found we did not really care for the chocolate cake as it is quite bitter.  If you enjoy Chocolate Mousse, you will likely enjoy this option.  We enjoyed the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse and were fascinated that the inside of the Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse was lavender.  Both dessert options have beautiful presentation and count as a snack credit under the Disney Dining Plan.

The decorative elements related to the plants and the artistic design of the Na’vi people provide some interesting things to look at and the seating in the restaurant is a decent size.  There were a lot of people there, but we did not have any difficulty grabbing a table.  We highly recommend a visit to the Satu’li Canteen when you visit Pandora-The World of Avatar.  While the flavors may challenge your palate, there is something there for everyone.

Are you planning to enjoy a meal at Satu’li Canteen during your visit to Pandora-The World of Avatar?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

Captain’s Grille Is Relocating to Beach Club Resort During Refurbishment

Captain's Grille relocation

Captain's Grille relocation

Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts are in the process of a lengthy refurbishment of their rooms and the size of the convention center increased. In order to provide their guests with uninterrupted service, Disney is relocating some the existing food and beverage offerings to other locations on the resort property.

Captain’s Grille, the resort’s table-service dining option, is relocating to the former Ariel’s restaurant (at the adjoining Beach Club Resort) during the resort refurbishment. It will end operation at its current location on May 24th  and re-open on May 26th at Ariel’s. This relocation is expected to last until sometime this fall.

While at its temporary home, the Captain’s Grille breakfast buffet will not be available but will still have à la carte options available. Guests will be able to access this restaurant via the Beach Club lobby.

Guests should also be aware that the Ale and Compass Lounge at the Yacht Club will not be relocated during the resort’s refurbishment but will remain closed starting May 24th until the Fall.

The classic seafood dishes of Captain’s Grille will be an easy fit inside the oceanic-themed Ariel’s location. Once the refurbishment is complete, both the Ale & Compass Lounge and the Captain’s Grille will feature a more spacious dining experience with expanded offerings.

New Magic Shot for Pandora – The World of Avatar

New Magic Shot for Pandora - The World of Avatar

With the recent launch of previews for Pandora – The World of Avatar, Disney has added a Magic Shot to capture the memories of this new area. Annual Passholders fortunate enough to snag a preview time for a first look at Animal Kingdom’s Pandora were also treated to the debut of Disney’s latest Magic Shot. The photo is taken in front of the floating mountain and features a flying banshee overhead.

These memories are captured by Disney’s Photo Pass Cast Members and are included in the Memory Maker or can be purchased separately.  Disney Parks Blog recently shared a listing of all Magic Shots at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and encouraged guests to be on the lookout for special Pandora shots, so we may see more Magic Shots added to this area.

A Beautiful and Summery Twist with Floral Minnie Ears

A Beautiful and Summery Twist with Floral Minnie Ears

I always say, you can never have too many pairs of ears! I love Minnie and Mickey ears of all kinds, but what I love most about the handmade pairs, is the uniqueness. These Floral Minnie Ears by HappilyEarverAfter give a woodsy but beautiful touch to the design of a classic Minnie headband.

These Violet Floral Ears are made with gorgeous grapevine wreath ears that are adorned with silk flowers in shades of violet and touches of green. I love the natural look the grapevines give these ears. There are several of these rustic and natural looking ears available, as well as wire wrapped ones that still maintain a natural looking simplicity. These are also super comfortable and steady on your head.

What do you think about this charming and rustic twist on these Floral Minnie Ears? Do you prefer the woodsier grapevine ears, or the elegantly simple wire wrapped ears better?
