Guests of this year’s Disney Movie Panel at the D23 Expo were treated to a special preview of the Circle of Life sequence. Let’s just say it’s nothing sort of incredible!
Director Jon Favreau came out to introduce the footage at “Disney, Marvel Studios & Lucasfilm – Live Action at The Walt Disney Studios” panel at the D23 Expo, and everyone who say it just can’t get over how amazing it was. People in the audience were oohing and aahing throughout, and we’ll just go right ahead and say it: everyone wept.
Here are the highlights:
Everyone cheered when the first saw Rafiki
Baby Simba was absolutely adorable
It was basically a shot-for-shot version of the animated version
The animals looked like real animals
Simba sneezed and it was so cute
Ahhhhh!!! I can’t wait for this one to hit theaters!

Construction on Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is well underway. We have kept up with the progress, and thanks to @bioreconstruct we have some great aerial shots of the first theming to appear on the land’s Slinky Dog roller coaster!

A closeup look shows us the word “Go!” located on top of an arch over the coaster’s track.
The track looks like it’s nearing completion, hopefully we will soon get a feel for the full ride experience. As you can see in the tweet below, the south end of the track seems to be reaching its peak.

The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith. Katterli Frauenfelder (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Big Eyes”), Derek Frey (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Frankenweenie”), Ehren Kruger (“Ophelia,” “Dream House”) and Justin Springer (“TRON: Legacy”) are producing from a screenplay by Kruger. Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.
Walt Disney’s classic animated tale “Dumbo,” which opened Oct. 23, 1941, won an Oscar® for best scoring of a musical picture and was nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.”
The creative team includes cinematographer Ben Davis, BSC (“Doctor Strange,” “Guardians of the Galaxy”), Oscar® winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Dark Shadows”), four-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), editor Chris Lebenzon, ACE (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Maleficent”) and BAFTA Award-winning make-up designer Paul Gooch (“Alice in Wonderland,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”).
Utilizing state-of-the-art visual effects to portray Dumbo and many of his four-legged counterparts, “Dumbo” will be filmed entirely in England, both at Pinewood Studios and Cardington Studios.

We hope you enjoy this special image-in-motion of Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins from Disney’s original musical “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all-new sequel to the 1964 “Mary Poppins” which features a fresh sensibility while celebrating the spirit of the original. The moving image features the practically-perfect nanny in a cobalt blue nanny coat and red hat with her iconic parrot head umbrella in hand.
Blunt took to the stage at the D23 Expo in Anaheim this morning, joining director/producer Rob Marshall to talk about the eagerly-anticipated return of the enigmatic nanny, where Blunt offered insight as to how she made the character her own. “I needed to try to pay homage to Julie Andrews but carve out a new space for myself. And we were very loyal to the books,” said Blunt. Marshall shared, “I was incredibly honored to be approached by Disney about directing a sequel. This is a brand new original film musical from top to bottom, which is very rare, and it is a wonderful opportunity to create something specifically for the screen.”
“Mary Poppins Returns” hits theaters December 25, 2018!

Why wait until December to get your favorite seasonal Starbucks drink? Disney Springs kicked off their Christmas in July event today and the Starbucks in Disney Springs, located near the World of Disney store, has released five specialty holiday drinks to celebrate the occasion! Lisette, one of our Chip & Co. writers, attended the event’s opening day to get us an up close look. Let’s take a look at the menu:
Mistletoe Frappuccino– Made with Green Tea and Peppermint syrup, its bright green color reminds me of a Christmas tree! Is it too early to start decorating?
Candy Cane Frappuccino – A classic Christmas flavor, the candy cane frapp is made with vanilla bean and peppermint syrup.
Snowball Frappuccino – Definitely for drinking, not for throwing, the Snowball frapp is white mocha with hazelnut and toffeenut syrup and a caramel drizzle.
Ginger Snap Frappuccino– What is Christmas without ginger snap cookies? Starbucks puts a twist on these favorites with this delicious frozen drink, with white mocha, caramel syrup and chai, topped off with cinnamon dolce powder!
Not Pictured:
Fruit Cake Smoothie – Strawberry, banana with fresh blueberries and peach syrup.
Santa’s helpers, Buddy and Scott, were on hand to create all of these refreshing winter drinks. This event is exclusive to the Disney Springs location and is not being celebrated within the parks, however if you would like to order these delicious holiday-inspired drinks the recipes are listed on the drink labels above and a barista will happily make them upon request.

The Disney Tsum Tsum toys and games have been a hit from the day they arrived, and it seems there is no end to the stackable cuteness they bring! The Tsum Tsum Display at D23 revealed the new Tsum Tsum City that will make it’s debut in Spring 2018, and other fun Tsum Tsum goodies.
Jakks Pacific Toys will be launching “Tsum City” next spring, and it looks like you can create your own Tsum City with different collectible play sets and vinyl figures.
The display was just as adorable as you would expect a “Tsum City” to look!
There was also the “Tsumprise Factory” which looks like myster Tsum Tsum figures.
There was also a lot of Tsum Tsum toys on the Coming This Fall toy display. I spied some “The Nightmare Before Christmas” mystery Tsum pouches which would be great for Halloween. There was also a Tsum Tsum School Bus Set which would be a great back-to-school gift for young Tsum Tsum fans who will miss summer vacation!
The Tsum Tsum display at the D23 Expo was definetly a cute spot! I can’t wait to see more details about Tsum City and the Tsumprise Factory, what about you?
The D23 Expo’s Golden Girls panel, held Friday afternoon, gave fans a more intimate look into the award-winning and long-time running series, and its impact on television. Director and Writer Terry Hughes attended the panel, along with Writers Barry Fanaro & Stan Zimmerman, Art Director John Shaffner, Production Designer Michael Hynes. Author of Golden Girls Forever, Jim Colucci also joined in the panel’s discussion.
Named “The Golden Girls: A Celebration of Friendship, Laughter, and Cheesecake” the panel truly radiated the feeling of friendship. According to Oh My Disney, the panel began and ended with the show’s theme song “Thank You For Being a Friend” and D23 guests and fans attending the panel broke out in a spontaneous sing-a-long! Although Betty White wasn’t in attendance she sent a personal letter to the panel, read aloud by Disney imagineer Morgan Richardson; where Betty described The Golden Girls as “one of the best experiences of my life and I will treasure it always.”
Throughout the panel, the writers reminisced on the hard work the four actresses, (Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty) put into the show on a daily basis; and how when the idea for the show was first pitched they questioned its ability to generate viewers. “Why would anyone watch a show about four older women living together?”, they thought.
I believe now with 7 succesful seasons, syndication across multiple television networks over the years, and popularity among multiplule generations, the staff is thankful they didn’t second guess their decision to pursue the series. All four actresses have been honored as Disney Legends for their work on the successful television series.

D23 Expo Day 1 was filled with exciting news about what’s in store for Disney Animation and Pixar fans. We here at Chip and Co. let you know real time as things were revealed but in case you missed it I’m bringing you a full recap of everything that we learned yesterday!
John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, teamed up with the stars and filmmakers from both studios to present new details, footage, behind-the-scenes looks and images from a host of upcoming films today at D23 Expo 2017 in Anaheim, California.
“I’m so excited about our upcoming movies; they are all hilarious, emotional, beautiful and make you think,” said Lasseter, who serves as executive producer on all animated titles. “It’s a great mix of incredibly creative and surprising new worlds and characters and stories we love returning to. Our filmmakers are putting so much heart into these films – I can’t wait for people to see them.”
Following, in the order of release, are the films presented on behalf of both studios:
Coco
In theaters November 22, 2017, Cocointroduces Miguel, an aspiring musician whose family long ago banned music. Desperate to prove his talent and follow in the footsteps of his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, Miguel makes a fateful decision and finds himself in the Land of the Dead, where he meets his extended family and charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal). Together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Director Lee Unkrich, co-director and screenwriter Adrian Molina and producer Darla K. Anderson shared details about the original story with the crowd, and guests of D23 Expo were treated to the first-ever public performance of “Remember Me” from Pixar Animation Studios’ upcoming film. Anthony Gonzalez, who provides the voice of Miguel in the film, and Benjamin Bratt, who lends his voice to Ernesto de la Cruz, teamed up to perform the song written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Capping the animation presentation, the grand finale featured more than 160 performers who descended upon Hall D23 at the Anaheim Convention Center, including the Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea and Ballet Folklorico de Los Angeles under the direction of Kareli Montoya, and the Grammy®-winning Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.
Olaf’s Frozen Adventure
Kristen Bell, the voice of Anna, introduced fans to the new Frozenholiday featurette, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, surprised the crowd with a live performance of the all-new original song “That Time of Year,” written by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson. The song is part of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new 21-minute featurette, which hits the big-screen in front of Disney•Pixar’s Coco on November 22, 2017.
Joining Bell and Gad in the featurette are Idina Menzel as the voice of Elsa, and Jonathan Groff as the voice of Kristoff.
The featurette is directed by the Emmy®-winning team Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton (Prep & Landing) and produced by Oscar® winner Roy Conli (Big Hero 6).
Incredibles 2
Lasseter, who’s looked forward to the return of everyone’s favorite family of superheroes since The Incredibles was still in production, was excited to share with fans a look at what the fashion world thinks of super-suit stylist Edna Mode—the petite-but-powerful character introduced in Pixar Animation Studio’s 2004 Oscar®-winning feature via a video that showcases fashion phenoms from Heidi Klum and Kendall Jenner to Zac Posen and Rachel Zoe.
Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird—who lends his voice to Edna—joined Lasseter on stage to welcome to the festivities the voices of Mr. and Mrs. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (newcomer Huck Milner) and Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). Bird revealed details of the upcoming caper, which puts the family into an expanded universe that includes new allies and a brand-new villain. ‘Incredibles 2 is really a family film, it’s just that the family happens to have super powers,” said Bird. “They may have super speed or super strength, but they experience the same problems as any family.”
Incredibles 2 hits theaters on June 15, 2018.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2
Directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston introduced Emmy®-winning actress and comedian Sarah Silverman, who returns as the voice of Vanellope von Schweetz.
Fans were the first to see the global debut of a scene from the film that pays hilarious homage to the Disney Princesses. Lasseter revealed that filmmakers had asked the original voice actresses behind the Princesses featured to reprise their roles for the sequence, and in a moment no Disney fan will forget, Auli‘i Cravalho (Moana), Kristen Bell (Anna in Frozen), Kelly MacDonald (Merida in Brave), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel in Tangled), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana in The Princess and the Frog), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Linda Larkin (Jasmine in Aladdin), Paige O’Hara (Belle in Beauty and the Beast) and Jodi Benson (Ariel in The Little Mermaid) were welcomed on stage for the largest gathering of Disney Princesses in history.
(L-R) Chief Creative Officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios John Lasseter, actors Paige O’Hara (Belle/BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Irene Bedard (POCAHONTAS), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel/TANGLED), Auli’i Cravalho (MOANA), Sarah Silverman (Vanellope von Schweetz/RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET: WRECK-IT RALPH 2), Kristen Bell (Anna/FROZEN), Kelly Macdonald (Merida/BRAVE), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana/THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG), Linda Larkin (Jasmine/ALADDIN), and Jodi Benson (Ariel/THE LITTLE MERMAID)
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ follow-up to 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph leaves the arcade behind, venturing into the expansive universe of the Internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s not-so-light touch. Outcasts-turned-BFFs Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz are reuniting with Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer) and Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch). Filmmakers revealed a new character, Yesss, an algorithm who plays an important role in Ralph and Vanellope’s journey within the internet. Golden Globe®-winning actress Taraji P. Henson (Empire) lends her voice to the character. “Yesss is a new character who owns the website Buzzaholic,” said Henson. “Yesss knows about everything cool and on trend. And she does spell her name with a triple ‘s.’ Yesss is very savvy, smart and sexy.”
Produced by Oscar® winner Clark Spencer, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018. Untitled Disneytoon Studios Film
The presentation kicked off with John Lasseter’s announcement of Disneytoon Studios’ original new animated movie. Directed by Klay Hall and Bobs Gannaway, and produced by Ferrell Barron, the theatrical feature film explores the future of aviation—taking moviegoers to the edge of discovery in the air—and beyond. The untitled film opens in theaters on April 12, 2019.
Toy Story 4
Lasseter invited Pixar’s Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date? short) to the stage, revealing that Cooley has assumed full director responsibilities for Toy Story 4. The pair brought with them a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the director’s life at the Northern California studio. Produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside Out), Toy Story 4 is slated for release on June 21, 2019.
Frozen 2 (Title TBA)
Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ feature-length follow-up to 2013’s Oscar®-winning film Frozen is slated for theaters on November 27, 2019. Bell, Gad, Menzel and Groff are reprising their roles in an all-new story. Lasseter, Bell and Gad shared with Frozen fans a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the filmmakers’ recent research trip to Norway, Finland and Iceland.
Untitled Dan Scanlon Movie
Director Dan Scanlon, who helmed Pixar’s Monsters University, joined Lasseter to share a few details about an all-new original feature film currently in production at Pixar Animation Studios. According to Scanlon, who lost his father at a very young age, the film is inspired by the question he’s always asked: who was my father?
The story is set in a world with no humans—only elves, trolls and sprites—“anything that would be on the side of a van in the ’70s,” said the director. “In the film, we’re going to tell the story of two teenage elf brothers whose father died when they were too young to remember him. But thanks to the little magic still left in the world, the boys embark on a quest that will allow them a chance to spend one last magical day with their father.” Kori Rae (Monsters University) will produce.
