Due to the extreme weather heading toward central Florida as a result of Hurricane Irma, the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the greater Orlando area including Walt Disney World Resort.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch will continue until 12 am EST. Here’s a look at the official tweet released by the NWS this morning:

I am loving these feel good stories coming from Hurricane Irma. Last night, I reported that Disney has opened their doors to the family pets. We also reported how Kristin Bell helped Josh Gad’s parents and other family members find shelter from the storm. Today, we are reporting that Bell also managed to bring joy to a shelter full of evacuees before Irma began to impact the Orlando area. Bell was in the Orlando area working on the next Frozen movie when she realized she wouldn’t be able to evacuate in time and decided to hunker down at the Swan and Dolphin Resort.
Bell swung by Meadow Woods Middle School in Orlando yesterday afternoon. As mentioned, Meadow Woods Middle School is serving as a place of refuge while Hurricane Irma impacts the Orlando area. Bell gave a little bit of a pep talk to the people at the shelter currently displaced by the storm:

Disney Springs is scheduled to remain closed until Tuesday, September 12 due to Hurricane Irma. Once the shopping and entertainment complex reopens, Guests will be able to take advantage of the following specials:

Disney has sent out the update that the Resort Dining Locations will now be open until 7:30pm. It was previously announced that they would close at 3:00pm today.
Checking up on Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory will close at 7:30pm, Scat Cat’s Club will close at 9:00pm, and all other areas and activities close at 10:00pm.
Update Sunday, September 10th at 12:30 pm:
Disney continues to offer up character meetups, fun events, and even dining available for guests.
Food courts and entertainment will be open until 5:30 pm today at many resorts and then closed until 6 am tomorrow.

We are hearing word from fans staying at Walt Disney World about the different ways that Disney is taking care of guests staying on Disney property. Mary Morales said that it is much better organization than Matthew, and explained a bit about the food options available.
There are Breakfast and lunches/dinners available to purchase for tomorrow, AND they are reasonably priced. The buffet dinner options available tonight were made in carry out containers of hamburgers/cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, fries, pizza, pasta options, broccoli and fruits. The breakfast option included a pastry, whole fruit,granola bar and a bottle of water for $6.00 each grab and go pack.
The lunch grab and go options featured a turkey or Italian sub sandwich, that come with chips, cookie, granola bar, whole fruit, and a bottle of water, also for just $6.00. These are a fabulously priced options with a good value as well. The grab and go options are Disney Dining Plan eligible.
Mary also informed us that the characters are out entertaining the guests! I love that Disney goes this extra step to try and keep things magical for guests, even when a hurricane is causing closures.
Mary said: “Yes it is quite an improvement from last hurricane. And I love that we had the option to get breakfast and lunch now for tomorrow in case the weather gets bad this evening and they can’t open for breakfast in the am. They have brought us flashlights and extra coffee.”

As a owner of two dogs, I absolutely love that Disney has done this! They are now allowing pet owners that have had to evacuate due to Hurricane Irma to bring their pets with them.
This is the official statement from Disney World:
We are glad to have you and your pet with us at the Walt Disney World Resort. In order to ensure the safety of all Guests and their pets, please be aware of the following:
Pets must be kept on a leash at all times.
Be sure to use designated Service Animal Relief Areas. Animals are welcome to use any open outdoor area for relief as long as the owner picks up after the animal and leaves the area clean.
Pets are not allowed in restaurants, lounges, pools, spas or merchandise areas unless they are service areas.
For the safety of our Cast, please do not leave pets unattended in the room. If necessary, please hang the Privacy Please sign outside your door. Please keep in mind, Housekeeping will be unable to service your room.
Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, our Front Desk Cast Members will be happy to assist you.
Service animals are always welcome at Disney World Resorts.

As the effects of Hurricane Irma are beginning to be felt in the Orlando/Disney World area, Epcot has seemingly transformed two of their parking lots into staging areas for hundreds if not thousands of utility trucks from around the country. These vehicles are located in the Explore and Create parking lots in Epcot.

Tropical Storm force winds are expected to begin this evening with Hurricane force winds starting to pick up tomorrow evening in Orlando. Florida Power & Light (FPL) has already reported over 30,000 Floridians without electricity, mostly in the southern part of Florida. There have been no reports of any power loss at this time for any locations on Disney World Property. Reports indicate that power outages are to be expected over much of Florida in the next few days. Forecasters are advising most power will be out for three to five days before it’s restored.
We cannot confirm this, but we would imagine that these utility workers are being housed at surrounding resorts and hotels including Disney World Resorts.

Disney’s holiday short, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, is coming to theaters November 22nd, 2017 debuting with the New Disney/Pixar film Coco. The short film follows Olaf and Sven as they set off in search of a new holiday tradition for Anna and Elsa. Frozen fans everywhere have been waiting to see their favorite characters back on the big screen, they will finally get that chance this winter, along with an all new selection of songs!
