Currently, rooms at the Pop Century Resort in Walt Disney World are receiving major room updates including new floors and double beds being replaced with queen beds among other changes. WDWMagic.com is reporting that rooms at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will begin the refurbishment process next!

The new rooms at All-Star Movies will be very similar to refurbished rooms at Pop Century. They will include the following updates:

  • Vinyl wood plank flooring
  • Two queen beds – One of the beds is a Murphy bed that folds up into a table when not in use
  • Wall-mounted flat screen TV
  • USB ports throughout the room
  • Pocket door between living area and bathroom
  • Mirror in bathroom with LED lighting
  • Sliding glass door in the shower
  • Extra shelving in vanity area
  • Electronic safe
  • Mini-fridge with glass door
  • Coffee makers will be standard in every room

Refurbished Room at Pop Century

One of my favorite features in the new Pop Century rooms is the “Pop Art” above the beds. We can expect to see this in the new All-Star Movies Resort rooms too. However, we are not certain if the artwork will be the same as what is at Pop or a bit different!

Once renovations at All-Star Movies are complete, All-Star Music will be next, followed by All-Star Sports.

Room renovations at All-Star Movies are scheduled to begin in late February and be completed in by Winter 2018. We are also hearing renovation at Pop Century will be completed sometime this Summer.

Disney Springs AMC Movie Theater Will No Longer Accept MoviePass

AMC

MoviePass pulled support from some of the chain’s most high-profile locations. One of those locations being the AMC movie theater is Disney Springs. They will no longer be supporting ticket purchases through the MoviePass app or by using a card.

It’s not AMC turning off the spigot, rather it appears to be coming from the MoviePass side. AMC and MoviePass have been publicly at odds since the subscription service drastically cut its monthly subscription price in August 2017. AMC responded by threatening to drop out of MoviePass’ deal, and potentially even file a lawsuit. AMC thinks that by cutting subscription costs, that will result in a situation where theatrical exhibitors wouldn’t be able to charge enough to keep their own businesses afloat.

The MoviePass service is no longer supporting ticket purchases at theaters like the AMC Empire 25 in New York, Universal City Walk near Los Angeles, and the AMC Loews Boston Common.

Her deliciosa aventura includes a visit to Pandora – The World of Avatar where Paloma and her parents discover Na’vi-inspired snacks and create unforgettable recuerdos or memories among floating mountains and a bioluminescent forest.

Mickey Spam Musubi at Disney’s Aulani Resort

Mickey Spam Musubi at Disney's Aulani Resort

Leave it to Disney to give Hawaiian comfort food its own magical twist. Aulani resort’s Disney-fied take on Spam musubi is proof!

Spam musubi is a tasty snack typically comprised of sticky rice, fried Spam, soy sauce, and a nori (seaweed) wrap all rolled into a square or rectangular handheld shape. But at Aulani, the musubi come in a different form — they look like Mickey Mouse! Available at Ulu Cafe in limited quantities (they only make one batch per day), the mouse-shaped snack is a perfect grab-and-go option for a day at the pool.

The Egg-stravaganza is Coming Back to Epcot PLUS a New Honey Bee Hunt Added!

Epcot

Epcot

I know it might be freezing cold out there but here’s some news that might warm you up! It’s time to start thinking Spring and Easter. I am happy to report that Epcot’s Egg-stravaganza is back for another year! In addition, a NEW Spike the Honey Bee scavenger hunt has been added!

Epcot

From March 16 through April 1, guests visiting the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival can participate in our Egg-stravaganza scavenger hunt – hunting high and low in World Showcase for “eggs” that portray favorite Disney characters.

As you find the hidden Disney Character-themed “eggs” in the park, you record your discoveries by placing a corresponding sticker on a specially themed Egg-stravaganza map. Maps and stickers can be purchased for $5.99, plus tax at the following parks and locations:

  • Disney Trader
  • Pin Central
  • World Traveler

When you find all of the “eggs” and complete your scavenger hunt map, you then return it to Disney Traders for a sp-egg-tacular surprise.

Epcot Epcot

Also, along with our egg-cellent adventure, we’re featuring a new springtime scavenger hunt called Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration. In this hunt, Disney’s favorite honey bee, Spike, has been pollinating his way around the festival, giving gardeners of any age the chance to follow his pollination trail around World Showcase at Epcot.

It’s easy to start this new scavenger hunt. Just pick up a garden map and stickers at Port of Entry. Then, it’s time to look for Spike!

As you explore the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, be on the lookout for Spike as he pollinates Epcot’s gardens. In each garden, you’ll have to search for the plant Spike has pollinated, identifiable by Spike himself and a Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration plant stake. Once you find him, add the corresponding sticker to your map.

After your journey is complete, return your map for a springtime surprise.

Maps and stickers for Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration can be purchased for $5.99, plus tax at Port of Entry.

Capt. Cook’s Aloha Pork Sandwich at the Polynesian Village is a Taste of the Tropics!

Capt. Cook's Polynesian

Capt. Cook's Polynesian

What is your favorite Quick Service Restaurant at Walt Disney World? Mine is Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort mainly because of the Aloha Pork Sandwich! It’s so amazing!

The Aloha Pork Sandwich consists of pulled pork on a Brioche Bun. It is topped with cheddar cheese, Asian slaw, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Of course, it is served with those amazing Capt. Cook’s chips! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

If you would like to try one for yourself, hop on the Monorail over to the Polynesian Village and go out back to Capt. Cook’s. The Aloha Pork Sandwich is just $10.99 or a Quick Service credit on the Dining Plan.

Passenger Aboard Disney Dream Med-Evaced Due To Medical Complication

Yesterday evening, January 25, The Coast Guard medevaced a 46-year-old man due to medical complications from the Disney Dream 78 miles southeast of West Palm Beach.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received a medevac request from the cruise ship reporting one of their passengers was experiencing medical complications and needed higher care than was available aboard the ship. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

“This was one of those times where every second counted, and I’m very grateful for the professionalism of the Disney crew and the hospital staff in their efforts to transport the patient as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Lt. Michael Wightman, MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircraft commander. “The entire flight crew wishes for the patient’s speedy recovery and a safe return home.”

The helicopter crew arrived on scene with the vessel, hoisted the patient and flew him to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for further medical care.

No updates at this time on who the man was or what he was suffering from.

Club 33 Disney World Appliations Have Been Sent Out

Club 33

The original Club 33 in Disneyland is hidden at the top of a staircase in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, where it was originally intended as a hideaway for Walt Disney to host elite park guests. Becoming a member nowadays is nearly impossible, even if you’re ready to foot the rumored $25,000 membership fee and $12,000 in annual dues. Well, now the elusive Club is coming to Disney World in each of the Walt Disney World theme parks.

Golden Oak residents were contacted first via email from the list of those who signed up at an earlier time. The membership fee could be as much as $25,000 with $15,000 in annual dues. And possibly no restrictions on Fastpasses, which could me unlimited Fastpasses for members?

Although no official opening date has been confirmed, it is rumored that the first clubs could be open as soon as April. Construction has already been started in some of the parks, including in Magic Kingdom at the Adventureland Veranda.

Check back with Chip and Co. for more information as it becomes available.

Disney Cast Members React to the Recently Announced $1,000 Cash Bonus

Reaction to Disney Bonuses

Earlier this week, the Walt Disney Company announced that they will be paying out a $1,000 cash bonus   to 125,000 full- and part-time non-executive employees.

It was also announced that the company will invest $50 million this year, and $25 million in subsequent years, for training and education for hourly workers.

These announcements have been met with mixed reviews from Cast Members. In an article from The Orange County Register, some union representatives state that they are worried that because of wording within the press release issued by Disney not everyone may see the bonus or that it may be used as a bargaining chip in the future.

Ada Briceño, co-president of UniteHere Local 11, which represents more than 2,000 Disneyland hotel workers said, “We are very disappointed.  We are bargaining to bring our workers out of poverty. Most of them make between $11 and $13 an hour. Disney should distribute the bonus to all its employees, separate from any contract negotiations.”

“We are disappointed with union leaderships’ reaction to an offer that hasn’t been fully discussed or vetted yet,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland spokeswomen.  She also declined to comment on if union members would automatically be eligible for the bonuses under the same terms non-unionized employees would be.

The debate has spread to social media where those both celebrating the bonus and while others called it a PR stunt.
