New Road Projects Set to Transform Disney World’s Western Gateway

Major Roadwork Projects Coming to Walt Disney World’s Backyard: CFTOD Launches Bidding Process for Buena Vista Drive and Western Way Overhaul

Navigating around the Walt Disney World resort is about to get a bit easier. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) has officially kicked off the bidding process for two massive transportation projects that could dramatically reshape how guests and cast members move around the western entrance of Walt Disney World Resort.

The district is seeking input from qualified engineering firms to tackle the design of two vital infrastructure upgrades:

  • A brand-new grade-separated interchange at Buena Vista Drive and Western Way
  • The long-anticipated widening of Western Way from four to six lanes

These projects aim to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and lay the groundwork for future growth across the resort area, with both efforts being fast-tracked thanks to recent momentum behind road enhancements tied to tourism.

Project 1: Buena Vista Drive/Western Way Interchange

This is the big one. The current at-grade intersection near Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Coronado Springs Resort will be transformed into a full-fledged interchange, with Buena Vista Drive flying high above Western Way on a new overpass. Interconnected ramps will ensure smoother turns and fewer red lights for drivers navigating this busy corridor. The 1.02-mile improvement stretch begins near the existing Buena Vista Drive/World Drive interchange and continues past the Winter Summerland Mini Golf entrance, while the work along Western Way spans 0.59 miles.

This project includes:

  • Stormwater system redesign
  • Utility relocation
  • Multi-phase delivery with an initial Preliminary Engineering phase, followed by Final Design and Post Design Support (contingent on funding and performance)

Project 2: Western Way Widening

Screenshot at  AM
Image via Google Maps

Stretching approximately 2.45 miles, this project would expand Western Way from four to six lanes, extending from the SR 429 interchange to the area just past the Coronado Springs Resort driveway. This is a heavily trafficked route for guests coming in from the western entrance—and it’s about to get a whole lot wider (and hopefully faster).

Key details include:

  • Widening toward the median (as originally envisioned)
  • Urban-style upgrades with curb and gutter
  • Improved stormwater systems and full utility realignment
  • A phased approach, starting with Preliminary Engineering plans (30%), and advancing into final stages pending performance and funding

Western Way is an important interchange at Walt Disney World for locals looking to enter Disney property as well as cast members traveling to and from the Flamingo Crossings area.

What This Means for Guest

While this is still in the design stage, the long-term impact will be huge for anyone navigating the western gateway to Disney property, especially cast members and local guests. Better traffic flow, fewer backups, and more efficient infrastructure all translate to less time in the car and more time in the magic.

Stay tuned, because once these projects break ground, we’ll be tracking every bump, barrier, and bridge as it unfolds!

The Pretzel Bread Pudding at the Germany Pavilion in EPCOT is a Must Try!

If you’re heading to EPCOT, you’ll have a LOT of snack stands to choose from! With treats to be tried in every World Showcase pavilion, plus the lands at the front of the park, how do you choose where to go? Well, recently we stopped by one of EPCOT’s slightly more hidden spots to try ALL the eats on the menu. Let’s head to Sommerfest!

Sommerfest is tucked away in the back of the Germany Pavilion, next to Biergarten Restaurant. It’s a little blink-and-you-miss-it snack stand that serves a few different eats and some beverage options. The restaurant has just two windows — one for Mobile Order pickups and one for counter-made order pickups. There’s a small ordering counter in the front and usually there isn’t too much of a line to get food here.

The Pretzel Bread Pudding is probably my favorite item on the Sommerfest menu, and it’s available for just $4.79. The texture is soft with a bit of chew, just like you’d expect from a perfect bread pudding.

There are bits of pretzel on top, and it has kind of a sweet-and-salty flavor profile going on. The vanilla and caramel sauces are creamy and sweet, a really delicious pairing that makes this treat so much better.

Honestly, this is a top-tier EPCOT dessert for me! This German pretzel bread pudding is a unique sweet and savory dessert found in the Germany pavilion. It features pieces of soft pretzel bread baked into a pudding, then drizzled with a rich vanilla sauce and caramel. It’s known for its comforting texture and the delightful combination of salty pretzel with sweet toppings. Don’t make the mistake of skipping this amazing treat on your next EPCOT visit!

After facing multiple delays since its first teaser trailer and poster were released in 2023, Disney and Pixar’s “Elio” is finally set to debut in theaters on June 20, 2025. The film boasts a talented voice cast, including Yonas Kibreab as the titular 11-year-old Elio, Remy Edgerly as his new alien friend Glordon, Zoe Saldaña as Elio’s Aunt Olga Solis, Brad Garrett as Glordon’s father Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Questa, and Shirley Henderson as OOOOO.

Ms. Information, an “animatronic” eager to learn about humans, can be found alongside Al roaming the World Discovery area, specifically near Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

These new entertainers are not currently listed on the My Disney Experience app so be on the look out for them when you visit Epcot.

Additionally, the popular pianist typically found at the Rose & Crown Pub has temporarily relocated to the Odyssey pavilion, where performances will continue daily through August 10. Guests can enjoy their sets between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Universal Cinemark at CityWalk Gets a Dragon-Sized Makeover for the Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon Premiere

CityWalk Orlando is looking a lot more like Berk these days! The Universal Cinemark Theater has been decked out in full dragon-riding glory to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, soaring into theaters June 13, 2025.

Guests strolling through CityWalk will spot striking promotional displays for the film, including large-scale banners, fiery signage, and Toothless himself front and center, ready to take flight. The entire theater façade has embraced the Viking aesthetic, giving fans a fire-breathing taste of what’s to come in this epic fantasy adventure remake.

The 2025 version of How to Train Your Dragon is a live-action reimagining of the beloved 2010 animated film from DreamWorks Animation, which itself was inspired by Cressida Cowell’s 2003 novel. Directed and co-written by Dean DeBlois (who also helmed the animated trilogy), this adaptation promises to rekindle the magic of the original—with a fresh, grounded take and a stellar cast.

Mason Thames stars as Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the awkward Viking teen who befriends a dragon instead of slaying one. Nico Parker joins him as Astrid, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s stubborn but big-hearted father. Rounding out the cast are Nick Frost as Gobber the Belch, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Bronwyn James and Harry Trevaldwyn as the hilarious Thorston twins, and more.

Filming took place in the rugged landscapes of Belfast, Northern Ireland, wrapping this past May. Composer John Powell, who scored the original trilogy, returns to create a sweeping musical backdrop that promises to tug at our heartstrings once again. The film received an early premiere at CinemaCon in April and has already won over critics with its heartfelt performances and breathtaking visuals. And yes—Toothless looks amazing in live action.

Whether you’re a Day One dragon trainer or new to the world of Berk, now’s the perfect time to rejoin Hiccup and Toothless for the start of a whole new saga. And with a sequel already slated for June 11, 2027, this franchise is ready to fly higher than ever before.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ‘Jaws’ with a Bite from the Bucket of Bait at Universal Orlando!

Just when you thought it was safe to eat at Universal Studios Florida… a delicious new treat has emerged from the depths of nostalgia! In honor of Jaws turning the big 5-0, you can now sink your teeth into the Bucket of Bait at Captain Quint’s Boardwalk Snacks—a themed booth that’s part of the “Little Amity” takeover in the San Francisco area of the park.

For just $14.99, this bucket comes packed with crispy fried clams, shrimp, and oysters, all nestled on a generous bed of fries. It’s finished with a fresh lemon wedge and a side of spicy sriracha ketchup for dipping. The seafood was tender, the breading was light and golden (no grease bombs here!), and the flavor was a total crowd-pleaser. We gave it a solid 9 out of 10—and honestly, it was one of the best quick bites we’ve had in the park in a while.

Even the bucket is themed to perfection, wrapped in vintage-style Amity Island artwork celebrating the 50th Annual Regatta—July 4th through 10th. This is the kind of souvenir you’re gonna want to “rescue” from the fryer and keep on your shelf.

Pro tip: Pair it with the Amity Island Iced Tea or the mocktail version for the ultimate seaside snack moment. Whether you’re a longtime Jaws fan or just here for the food, this bucket is definitely worth the bite.

Construction Walls Go Up Around Ghostbusters Firehouse in Universal Orlando

Walls Up at Universal Studios Florida – Is a Ghostbusters Coaster Materializing Where Rip Ride Rockit Once Roamed?

Something strange is happening in the neighborhood—and it’s happening fast. Construction walls have popped up around the iconic firehouse façade near Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida, just ahead of the coaster’s scheduled closure on August 18. And while we know a new coaster is set to replace it… could the presence of these themed walls be hinting at something paranormal?

Related: ‘Jaws’ 50th Anniversary Sipper Now Available at Universal Orlando Resort

IMG

Let’s talk theories—because Ghostbusters fans might want to break out their proton packs.

The walls surrounding the firehouse sport themed signage that seems to maintain, rather than erase, the Ghostbusters aesthetic. This little detail has sparked some supernatural speculation: could Universal be planning a brand-new Ghostbusters-themed coaster? The signage points toward preservation work on the firehouse, which along with the New York Library facade are items taken directly from the Ghostbusters films.

One possibility being tossed around the fan community is that this could mirror the ride system being built for the Fast & Furious coaster currently under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood—just swap out Dom’s muscle car for ECTO-1 and add a few ghosts. And bam! You’re drifting past the Sedgewick Hotel instead of speeding through downtown L.A.

IMG

While Universal has not officially confirmed what’s replacing Rip Ride Rockit, we do know a coaster is coming to this space. The timing, the theming, and the continued use of the firehouse exterior could all be pointing toward a thrilling new way to “bust” ghosts, coaster-style.

For longtime fans, the idea of a Ghostbusters attraction returning in full force is anything but outlandish. Back in the early days of Universal Studios Florida, the Ghostbusters Spooktacular was a headliner. Taking guests to the Gozerian Temple and showcasing groundbreaking live show effects, it remains one of the most missed original attractions. Although it only ran for six years, its legacy looms large.

IMG

More recently, the Ghostbusters franchise has made a strong comeback at Universal Orlando:

  • Halloween Horror Nights 2019 saw the original Ghostbusters film brought to life with a fan-favorite haunted house filled with ‘80s nostalgia, library ghosts, and yes, Stay-Puft himself.
  • In 2024, the new Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was featured at HHN, putting fans face-to-face with Garraka’s icy grip.
  • And right now, Ghostbusters is a showstopper in the Universal Mega Movie Parade, rolling through the streets alongside Jaws, E.T., and Back to the Future.

Related: The Coca-Cola Freestyle Advantage: What Disney World Could Learn from Universal Orlando

IMG

All signs point to the fact that Ghostbusters remains a cornerstone of Universal’s cinematic legacy—and this may finally be the moment it gets the E-ticket treatment it deserves.

As Senior Director of Entertainment Mike Aiello put it, Ghostbusters stands tall next to Jaws, BTTF, and E.T. as “core values of what the early Universal Studios theme park experience was.” With the firehouse still intact and those mysterious walls rising, maybe—just maybe—we’re on the verge of seeing bustin’ make us feel good once again.

Stay tuned, because if Universal announces a Ghostbusters coaster… you heard it here first.

The design is the perfect bite of nostalgia and nautical flair. Shaped like Bruce the shark himself, the sipper clutches a removable silver air tank between his teeth, emblazoned with the “Jaws 50” wordmark. That’s right, you’ll be sipping your favorite beverage straight from the tank that took the beast down! The shark features a classic blue-and-white color scheme, and the faux nautical rope strap with spear-like tips adds the perfect Amity Island vibes. While the sipper was teased in early previews back in March, it took a little longer to swim ashore, missing the first wave of anniversary merch that dropped mid-May. But now that it’s finally arrived (and disappeared just as quickly), fans are eager for more.
