According to the Walt Disney World website, Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is set to close this September, presumably for its annual seasonal refurbishment.
Based on the operating calendar found on the Blizzard Beach webpage, the water park’s last day of operation will be Sunday, September 7, 2025, with the closure officially beginning Monday, September 8. The calendar currently shows no operating hours for the water park through November 30, which is the furthest date available.
Blizzard Beach will close its doors for seasonal maintenance, marking the end of a rare period where both it and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park operated simultaneously – a first since 2019. While Disney has not made an official announcement regarding the closure, industry reports indicate it’s for routine upkeep.
Currently, the Walt Disney World website shows Typhoon Lagoon will remain open through Tuesday, September 9, though its operating hours beyond that date are not yet listed. This brings into question whether Walt Disney World will revert to its pre-2025 schedule of operating only one water park at a time while the other undergoes refurbishment. According to the updated information released on July 2, investigators now say the child was sitting on the ship’s railing when she lost her balance and fell backward through a nearby porthole opening. The portholes, which line parts of the ship’s Deck 4 exterior promenade, are set within short guardrails. While partially barricaded, the upper portions of these circular windows remain open—creating a risk that, tragically, became all too real.
This new detail comes just one day after the BSO initially told media outlets the child “was not sitting on the ledge or being held up over it.” However, after reviewing security footage and gathering eyewitness statements, the timeline has been updated.
And what happened next was nothing short of heroic: the girl’s father, who did not witness the fall, jumped into the ocean immediately after being alerted by his wife. He kept his daughter afloat in the open sea until Disney Cruise Line crew members could reach them via rescue boat. Both were brought back onboard within 30 minutes and were evaluated by the ship’s medical team before being transported to a hospital upon arrival at Port Everglades.
