Heat Advisory Issued for Central Florida Including Disney World and Universal Orlando Resorts
Visitors and residents in Central Florida, including guests at Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, should prepare for dangerously hot conditions today. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne, Florida, has issued a Heat Advisory effective from 9:28 a.m. EDT until 6 p.m. EDT on July 18, 2025.
This advisory signifies a major heat risk, designated as Level 3 out of 4 by the NWS. The affected areas include Orange County, home to Universal Orlando Resort and a significant portion of Walt Disney World Resort, as well as Osceola County, where the remainder of Disney World is located. Surrounding counties such as Volusia, Lake, Seminole, Okeechobee, Indian River, Saint Lucie, Martin, and Brevard are also under the advisory.
“Feels like” temperatures, or heat index values, are projected to reach approximately 108°F. Such extreme heat combined with high humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses. The NWS strongly recommends that everyone take precautions:
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
Seek cool environments: Remain in air-conditioned rooms or out of direct sunlight whenever possible.
Dress appropriately: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing if you must be outdoors.
Limit strenuous activity: Reduce outdoor exercise and other physically demanding tasks.
Guests at the theme parks should be particularly mindful of these recommendations, as prolonged exposure to these conditions can quickly become dangerous. Stay safe and stay cool!

New Trailer and Poster Drop for TRON: Ares — Plus First Nine Inch Nails Song in 5 Years!
The Grid is glowing again. Disney has just released a brand-new trailer, poster, and images for TRON: Ares, the third installment in the high-tech TRON saga, set to electrify theaters on October 10. And the buzz doesn’t stop there: Grammy-winning rock legends Nine Inch Nails have stepped into the spotlight, dropping their first new song in five years as part of the film’s soundtrack.
Titled “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” the single is featured in the new trailer and offers a pulsing, cinematic first taste of the TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)—the first full film score by the band, releasing September 19 via Interscope Records. While Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are no strangers to film scores (hello, Oscars and Emmys), this marks the first time Nine Inch Nails has officially scored an entire feature under the band name.
Directed by Joachim Rønning, TRON: Ares stars Jared Leto as Ares, a highly advanced Program sent from the digital world into our own—a mission that brings humanity face-to-face with artificial intelligence for the very first time. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges, returning to the TRON universe once more.
Produced by a powerhouse team including Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, and original TRON creator Steven Lisberger, this sequel promises to expand the legacy of the groundbreaking franchise while tapping directly into today’s hot-button themes of AI, identity, and what it means to be “alive.”
Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Surfs Past $1 Billion Globally—First MPA Film of 2025 to Do It
Ohana means box office smash! Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has officially crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, making it the first Motion Picture Association (MPA) title of 2025 to hit that milestone—and it did so with a big blue BOOM.
After just eight weekends in theaters, the film has racked up a whopping $416.2 million domestically and $584.8 million internationally, making it the #1 global and international MPA release of the year so far.
This historic achievement also puts Lilo & Stitch in elite company, joining Moana 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2 as Disney’s billion-dollar box office club members over the past 13 months. Not bad for a story that began with a little girl, a dog-that’s-not-a-dog, and a whole lot of heart.
The film opened on May 23 with a record-shattering $183 million during its four-day Memorial Day debut—the biggest ever for the holiday weekend. It’s also one of just two films this year to surpass $400 million domestically.
Internationally, Lilo & Stitch is hitting high notes across the globe. It’s now:
The highest-grossing Disney live-action film of all time in Mexico
The top-performing film of 2025 in several major markets, including France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and more
The film’s impact goes beyond the box office. With Stitch fever in full swing, the original animated classic and related content on Disney+ have been streamed more than 640 million hours globally. Mahalo, nostalgia!
In response to the film’s success, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is now in development, continuing the legacy of one of Disney’s most beloved and out-of-this-world stories.
As Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman put it, “We knew there was a lot of love for Lilo & Stitch, yet we never take that for granted. We’re proud of how this new film has connected with people—and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.”
You heard it here: Stitch is back, bigger than ever, and showing the galaxy what happens when a little chaos meets a whole lot of love.
Rivers of America Draining Begins at Magic Kingdom Ahead of Massive Expansion
Say your goodbyes to the paddlewheels and paintbrushes; Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America is officially starting to dry up as Disney kicks off prep work for its most ambitious expansion yet. The draining process is now visibly underway, and if the rising construction walls and growing sea of scaffolding are any indication, change is rolling in faster than the Liberty Belle on a steam-powered sprint.
While the iconic Liberty Belle Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island rafts are docked backstage, crews have ramped up activity across Liberty Square and Frontierland. Guests now walk alongside a veritable maze of construction walls, scrims, and scaffolding. Some of the most visible changes include:
Walls lining the Riverboat Landing exit ramps, now decked out with cheeky and patriotic signs sponsored by PPG Paints. Some of our favorites?
“Patriotism swells in the heart of the American bear.” – Fozzie Bear
“Welcome, foolish mortals.” – The Haunted Mansion
“Laughter is America’s most important export.” – Walt Disney
On Tom Sawyer Island, crews have begun removing set pieces at Tom’s Landing. Props are tagged for removal or destruction, and work crews have been seen dismantling the rustic wooden building plank by plank—marking the final chapter for this beloved island of childhood nostalgia.
The rock walls along The Haunted Mansion queue are now covered with scaffolding and protective scrims, with water levels visibly dropping nearby as drainage work continues. It’s spooky season all year when you’re surrounded by ghosts and jackhammers!
Brown construction walls have also expanded into Frontierland, blocking off the Frontierland Railroad Station entirely. The Walt Disney World Railroad is officially in “shuttle mode,” only traveling between Main Street, U.S.A. and Storybook Circus until further notice.
The walls in Frontierland are also home to some clever, on-theme signage:
“Thanks for bearing with us to the bear end.” – Henry, Country Bear Jamboree
“This here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!” – Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
“The only way to get what you want in this world is through hard work.” – Princess Tiana
This large-scale transformation is all part of the upcoming Magic Kingdom expansion that will bring not one, but two new lands to life: a Cars-themed land and the long-awaited Disney Villains land, which will rise beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
While we’ll miss the riverboat cruises, rope bridges, and paintbrush scavenger hunts, there’s no denying the electric energy in the air as Magic Kingdom paves the way (quite literally) for the future.

“In 2023, Richard Sherman of the famed Sherman Brothers songwriting duo wrote a new verse to the iconic “it’s a small world.” This final verse builds upon the song’s hopeful message of peace across all humankind.”
The verse has also been added to the finale scene of “it’s a small world” starting today, July 17. Richard Sherman wrote it as his last Disney project. The lyrics are:
“Mother earth unites us in heart and mind And the love we give makes us humankind Through our vast wondrous land When we stand hand in hand It’s a small world after all.”
Are you looking forward to experiencing the Sherman Brothers tribute?
Today, Disneyland Resort, affectionately known as “The Happiest Place on Earth,” marks its 70th anniversary, paying tribute to the dedicated cast members who have brought so many cherished memories to life. Since its grand opening on July 17, 1955, Disneyland revolutionized family entertainment, a vision Walt Disney himself dedicated to being “a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” As the 70th Celebration continues, Disneyland Resort is set to unveil even more exciting experiences for guests to enjoy this summer and beyond, proudly honoring its rich history and enduring legacy as The Happiest Place on Earth.
Disneyland Resort kicked off the 70th anniversary with an early morning cast member-only celebration in Disneyland park, filled with unique photo backdrops, such as the 70th Anniversary Hot Air Balloon, live entertainment and a flag raising ceremony in Town Square featuring veteran cast members.
The Walt Disney Company’s Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger, and Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro addressed the cast on Main Street, U.S.A., before joining them alongside Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse to ceremoniously ring the New York Stock Exchange opening bell and pose for a once-in-a-lifetime cast photo. After, Bob Iger opened Disneyland before joining Disneyland Resort cast members along Main Street, U.S.A., to welcome guests into the park.
“It was on this day in 1955 that Walt Disney opened the gates of Disneyland for the first time and introduced the world to this very special place,” Iger said to guests. “70 years later, Disneyland remains one of Walt’s greatest achievements – a place where generations of people from all over the world have stepped through these gates and entered a world of joy and imagination.”
70 years and counting of The Happiest Place on Earth
With the opening of Disneyland park in 1955, Walt Disney transformed the theme park industry, creating an immersive destination where families could create happy memories and spend time together. With its 70-year history, Disneyland Resort has expanded to include two theme parks, three hotels and the Downtown Disney District which reflect the power of Disney storytelling – which includes Pixar, Star Wars, and stories featuring fan-favorite Super Heroes.
The resort is adding even more new experiences, including the Avengers Campus expansion, Avatar and Coco in the coming years providing guests with more options to immerse themselves in their favorite Disney stories – creating moments that become timeless memories and stories that are shared again and again with friends and family. More information about these projects can be found in the “We Call it Imagineering” series on YouTube.
In that spirit, July 17 marks the debut of a new advertising campaign highlighting how after 70 years, Disneyland Resort continues to be the place that people come to celebrate their happiest moments, featuring authentic guest stories and photos.
“Walt Disney – A Magical Life” debuts at Disneyland Park
The all-new “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” attraction makes its public debut at the Main Street Opera House, featuring a cinematic presentation of Walt Disney’s journey, culminating in a visit with Walt in his office, made possible through the magic of Audio-Animatronics storytelling.
In a heartfelt pre-show tribute video to the attraction called “Memories of Walt”, those who worked alongside Walt Disney – and those inspired by his vision – share personal stories and reflections about Walt Disney.
The lobby of the Main Street Opera House includes an all-new gallery experience titled “Evolution of a Dream”, displaying images, artifacts and art – some never before seen – that show Disneyland before, during and after Walt’s dream became a reality. Guests will also find another special exhibit that highlights the story and history of Audio-Animatronics technology, from Walt’s day leading to the advancement of where we are today.
More tributes to Disney heritage
Over at the Main Street Cinema, guests can experience “So Much That We Share: A Tribute to the Sherman Brothers” to view the heartwarming three-and-a-half-minute film titled “The Last Verse”. The short film, which celebrates the timeless connection and hope behind the Sherman brothers’ iconic song, “It’s A Small World,” was originally created for the song’s 60th anniversary and unveils a new verse written by legendary composer Richard M. Sherman in his final Disney contribution. This third and final verse to the beloved song can now be heard in the finale scene of the “it’s a small world” attraction in Fantasyland at Disneyland park.
