During the 2nd day of Destination D23, the “Disney Villains: Icons of Evil” panel was every bit as wonderfully wicked as its name promised. The presentation, hosted by YouTube mega-creator Michelle Khare, was packed with plenty of frightfully fun moments and announcements.

Featuring a mischievous musical medley provided by Disney Concert Group, along with stage and screen stars Michael James Scott and Jodi Benson, this presentation gave a sneak peek into some upcoming villains-focused projects and products – including the new villains-themed land at Walt Disney World, showing that these devilish divas never go out of style.

Here’s a recap of everything the team revealed:

Villains Take the Stage at Walt Disney World

The most anticipated news of the panel came out of Walt Disney World, where the new show “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” recently premiered and construction for the previously revealed villains-themed land is on the horizon.

To kick off the presentation, Executive Creative Director Caroline May and Executive Producer Wyatt Winter from Walt Disney Imagineering shared some eagerly awaited updates about the villains-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom.

Since it was first announced last year at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Imagineers have been busy working to bring this villainous vision to life, and the panel provided some incredible insights into the extensive research that went into the land before construction even began. It was a treat for the audience to hear about the vibe and vision, which was largely influenced by the Art Nouveau style of architecture in Europe, from the Imagineers themselves.

Check out post to learn more about the people, projects, and places that inspired the team at Walt Disney Imagineering responsible for developing the land.

New Villains Show Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Summer
In the shadows of Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, an all-new live production starring fan-favorite Disney Villains is set to debut in summer 2025. The Magic Mirror’s mysterious realm will come to life at Sunset Showcase, featuring appearances by dozens of the most infamous evildoers.

Disney Live Entertainment Show Director Mark Renfrow then gave fans a behind-the-screams look at how Disney Live Entertainment developed the new spellbinding show, which can be seen at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and features Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent alongside other iconic villains as fans are invited to engage with these characters in an exciting new way. He did a deep dive into Cruella specifically, focusing on her wonderfully wacky fashion sense and the different looks she dons throughout the show.

Villains Assemble at Disneyland Resort

Mark Renfrow soon switched gears to talk about all things Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure park, including the debut of this year’s newest character – Syndrome. Guests can encounter this scheming, snarky super-villain for the first time as they explore his dedicated treat trail near Pixar Pier during the party, in addition to other exclusive, eerie experiences like the Frightfully Fun Parade and Villains Grove.

Villains Set Sail on Disney Cruise Line

We’ve been sharing lots of updates from the Disney Destiny as the ship prepares to set sail this November, and Entertainment Creative Director for Disney Signature Experiences Live Entertainment Denise Case just revealed even more details.

Artwork shown for the announcement revealed a new “meet and play” character encounter with the playfully sinister practitioner of the macabre, Dr. Facilier. This cunningly charming illusionist may be lurking around the upper levels of the Grand Hall or in his own makeshift parlor, inviting guests in for a card trick or sleight of hand – he’s just here to make new friends…

Villains Join the Party at Hong Kong Disneyland

Mark Renfrow then shared another exciting announcement from Disney Live Entertainment – a brand-new entertainment offering will be debuting at Hong Kong Disneyland on September 19 as the park kicks off their Halloween season!

“Uninvited! A Villains Takeover Party” will include elements of a cavalcade, street show, and musical spectacle, showcasing various Disney Villains including Maleficent, the mistress of evil. After being uninvited from yet another royal gathering, Maleficent decides to stir up some fun of her own and goads the invited guests to call forth her uninvited counterparts. Spells fly, fire flashes, and music soars as the glittering assemblage of Disney Villains and their underlings arrive for a most sinister street party.

Villains Invade Disney Consumer Products

We know that fans love to show off their villains pride, and Director of Graphic Design for Disney Consumer Products Stacey Aoyama showed the audience what mysterious merchandise they can expect in the coming months.

The Bath & Body Works collection, inspired by some of the most beloved Disney Villains, dropped online this week, and ahead of the in-store release on September 3, Stacey shared some secrets about the development of these products and Disney’s recent collaborations with Bath & Body Works, which have been fan-favorite items.

So much thought went into the careful crafting and creation of the villains line, with a particular focus on the fragrance notes and characteristics as they relate to the personalities of Maleficent and the Evil Queen. The scents being ideal for fall was also a very intentional goal that the team had, and we know these will be the perfect addition to your spooky season shopping cart.

A new Mattel product was also announced – an Ursula doll will be joining a longstanding lineup of other Disney dolls loved by collectors. The doll is specifically part of the Disney Collector Darkness Descends Series and highlights Ursula’s powerful, theatrical look, complete with iridescent neon tentacles. Fans can find this item online at MattelCreations.com starting September 7, and you can dive into more details here

During the “Disney Villains: Icons of Evil” panel. Michelle Khare, host of the YouTube Series Challenge Accepted, led the devious discussion, which explored the many ways our favorite Disney Villains will soon be materializing across Disney Parks, cruise ships, and products.

For the fans that are passionate about collectible novelties, the reveal of Mattel Creations’ Disney Collector Ursula Doll, will be swimming onto MattelCreations.com this September.

Mattel’s Darkness Descends Series

Disney’s Ursula is the newest addition to the Darkness Descends Series, which began with Maleficent in 2023 and continued with Cruella de Vil in 2024. These dazzling divas are displayed in intricately designed boxes and made with premium materials – a true celebration of iconic Disney Villains in their most evil, high-fashion forms.

The bold craftsmanship and rich storytelling showcased in the first two dolls can again be seen in Ursula, with a dramatic twist that feels perfectly in-tune with the essence of this feared, but still fan-favorite, character.

Disney Collector Ursula Doll Joins the Villains Lineup

This collectible fashion doll shows Ursula after she transforms into the supreme ruler she’s always dreamed of becoming, complete with her signature tentacles, an over-the-top organza collar, and a sinister smirk as she embraces her epic powers in style.

Another impressive feature is the UV accents, which are activated by LED lights inside the packaging and add a whole other vibrant layer to this neon nightmare. Every detail, from her captivating crown to the type of fabrics used for her fearsome fit, feels bold, elevated, and dripping with this character’s campy confidence.

The team at Mattel crafted a collectible that manages to be full of attitude, power, and theatrics, with a touch of fashion-forward flair.

Unlocking the Secrets of the New Villains-Themed Land at Magic Kingdom

WDI Villains Land Research Conjured Architecture

This weekend at Destination D23, Imagineer Caroline got a chance to share some insights on the hard work happening on the new villains-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom park. The land was first announced by Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, last year at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where it was revealed that the space would include two major attractions, dining, and shopping – all with a touch of dark, devious flair. Here’s what you might have missed:

New Details About the Villains-Themed Land at Magic Kingdom

During a video message in the panel, Disney Legend and former animator Andreas Deja, who is best known for helping to bring some of the most evil Disney Villains to life onscreen, such as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin, and Scar in The Lion King, announced that he was officially consulting on the project.

Deja shared that these characters are the best source materials for Imagineers to utilize and reference when conceptualizing the land, with big personalities, bold visuals, and rich backgrounds to influence the overall ambiance and the experience that guests will have while visiting.

What Inspired the Villains-Themed Land?

Disney confirms that the journey to developing the land began with the animation source material and the Walt Disney Animation Studios artists responsible for it. These conversations made them realize that it was critical to reflect the look and feel of the characters’ animation in the land’s physical structures and appearance, so they set off to Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain to learn about each city’s architecture and its unique attributes.

The research trip was truly transformative and completely immersive. The team specifically studied Art Nouveau architecture design and the unique form, scale, and color that define this style, which flourished in the late 1800s. Through partnerships with local professors, along with art and architectural historians, Imagineers received an intimate look at the architectural aesthetics that will serve as the overall design inspiration for the land

The Influence of Art Nouveau Architecture on the Villains-Themed Land

Paris is a city full of classic Art Nouveau examples – the team highlighted the way natural motifs and swirling designs there make nature appear to be “cursed” like magic has frozen it into place. On the other hand, Barcelona’s art style is Modernisme, which has less natural patterns but gives the architecture an otherworldly, unnerving appearance.

Another fascinating discovery that they made in both places was how many of the architectural elements had a wonderful color palette, full of rich tones. Seeing details like colorful stained-glass windows and painted metals helped us understand how we might bring the beautiful, deep jewel tones of the animated villains to life in the land’s buildings

After identifying the similarities between the magical, fluid, and organic appearance of both the animated villains and the Art Nouveau style of construction, the team coined the term “Conjured Architecture.” This refers to the blend of historical components and fantastical worlds that have merged to ultimately create something wicked that will be able to be experienced firsthand – a villains-inspired land.

Disney Villains remain some of the most iconic and beloved characters thanks to their memorable musical moments, extravagant attire, complex stories, and striking visuals.

Our ‘Terrifying’ Review of Halloween Horror Nights 34

Our Terrifying Review of Halloween Horror Nights 34

Dolls, Jason, and Terrifier Lead a Terrific Year at Halloween Horror Nights 34

Halloween Horror Nights 34 has officially unleashed the fog at Universal Studios Florida, and this year’s event is one of the most terrifyingly fun in recent memory. Running for 48 nights through November 2, HHN 34 is packed with 10 haunted houses, four all-new scare zones, and an array of roaming street experiences that make sure there’s nowhere safe to hide once night falls.

BDECDA F B ABAE

The vibe this year feels bigger, bloodier, and more immersive, with Universal’s Entertainment team flexing their creative muscles across both IP-driven and original concepts. Guests can scream their way through Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, wander into the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout, survive Art the Clown’s sadistic playground, or face the unrelenting wrath of Jason Voorhees. The original houses stand toe-to-toe with these blockbuster IPs, delivering unforgettable nightmares like Dolls: Let’s Play Dead and El Artista: A Spanish Haunting.

Beyond the houses, the park is alive with eerie energy. Vampires dance at masquerades, mutants spill through the streets of 1920s New York, and zombie carhops take your order at Mel’s Die-In. Add in Club Horror’s undead DJ and the ever-unpredictable roaming scareactors, and HHN 34 has crafted a complete horror playground.

We were fortunate enough to be hosted by Universal again this year to an opening-night media event, where we were provided access to all 10 houses, the sinister scare zones, and a showing of Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay with full permission to record and take photos inside all of the houses! Here’s our full ranking of the haunted houses and our thoughts on this year’s scare zones.

Haunted House Rankings

IMG

#10: Hatchet and Chains Demon Bounty Hunters
The concept is wild — lava demons descending on an Old West town, melting everything in sight. Unfortunately, our first run felt uneven, with the storyline difficult to follow and scares that didn’t land as consistently as other houses. It’s not a bad house by any stretch, but compared to the competition, it chopped its way to the bottom. We’ll definitely give it another shot to see if timing improves.

IMG

#9: Grave of Flesh
The idea of attending your own funeral and then being hunted by flesh-eaters is deliciously dark. The scares here are solid, and the atmosphere is oppressive in all the right ways. Still, the limited underground setting kept it from feeling as visually varied or expansive as the other houses. Fans of claustrophobic horror will dig it, but we found ourselves ranking it lower than the more ambitious offerings.

#8: Gálkn Monsters of the North
This Nordic nightmare has a compelling backstory and impressive scale, with monsters rising from the dead to chase you through icy ruins. We loved the mythological vibe and the massive set pieces. But when stacked against the rest, it just didn’t demand multiple run-throughs the way our top picks did. It’s still worth a trek for fans of folklore horror.

#7: WWE Presents The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks
This house surprised us with its atmosphere, and even though we’re not die-hard WWE fans, the sinister carnival-meets-funeral aesthetic worked well. Creepy characters lurked around every corner, and the scares were plentiful. Hardcore fans of the Wyatt Sicks will rank this much higher, but for us, it ended up mid-card. Still, it’s a house we’d happily revisit on a return night.

#6: Fallout
Stepping into Vault 33 and the wasteland beyond is a thrill for anyone who’s binged the show or spent hours in the game. From Lucy’s disastrous wedding to encounters with The Ghoul and the Brotherhood of Steel in full T-60 power armor, the detail here is outstanding. While it’s not particularly scary, it’s one of the most immersive houses of the year. Fans will adore it, and even casual guests will be impressed by the scale of the sets.

#5: Five Nights at Freddy’s
This one is pure fan service done right. The animatronics created by the Jim Henson Creature Shop are jaw-droppingly good, making Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and even Mr. Cupcake feel terrifyingly real. The pacing is excellent, and the house keeps you guessing with well-timed jump scares. Whether you’re a veteran player of the game or brand new to the franchise, you’ll walk out impressed — and maybe a little hungry for pizza.

#4: El Artista A Spanish Haunting
One of the most visually stunning houses of the year, El Artista is dripping in gothic atmosphere. The 19th-century Spanish manor is brought to life with breathtaking sets and creepy details, while the tortured artist at the center of the story adds emotional weight. The scares are steady, but it’s the aesthetic that elevates this house into our top tier.

#3: Terrifier
Art the Clown proves HHN has not gone soft. This house is brutal, bloody, and relentless, with gore-filled set pieces that recreate some of the franchise’s most iconic kills. The finale features a “wet path” that leaves guests literally wading through blood. It’s shocking, it’s over-the-top, and it’s everything a hardcore horror fan could want.

#2: Jason Universe
This house is a dream come true for Friday the 13th fans. Every era of Jason shows up, from the original camp slasher to his more bizarre later iterations. The scares are constant, the number of scareactors is staggering, and the use of the iconic ki-ki-ki ma-ma-ma theme music is perfection. With different Jasons popping up on repeat runs, this is one of the most rewatchable houses of the year.

#1: Dolls Let’s Play Dead
This twisted dollhouse towers above the competition. The premise — being doll-sized and stalked by toys warped by a sinister little girl — is brilliantly executed. The sets are massive, the scares are creative, and the pacing never lets up. It’s creepy, it’s clever, and it’s our pick for the house you absolutely can’t miss at HHN 34.

Thoughts on Scare Zones, Nightmare Fuel and Street Experiences

The Origins of Horror
Statues and eerie monuments greet you right at the park entrance, setting the tone the moment you step into the fog. It’s a strong atmospheric opener.

IMG

Masquerade Dance with Death
Universal does vampires so well, and this lavish masquerade ball filled with bloodthirsty partygoers proves it. The costumes are dazzling, the mood is seductive, and the scares hit when you least expect them.

The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane
Hands down the most unique zone of the year. The winding lane, complete with the Cat Lady’s eerie home, feels like a mini haunted house in its own right. We caught the “feeding time” show moment, which added a theatrical layer we loved.

Mutations Toxic Twenties
The concept — a radioactive truck crashing in a 1920s neighborhood — is great, but the execution felt a little too spread out for the large New York section of the park. It’s still fun to wander through, just not as concentrated with scares as others.

IMG

Mel’s Die-In Zombies
A clever twist on a fan-favorite location. The zombie carhops are both creepy and campy, serving up scares alongside classic diner nostalgia.

Club Horror
The pumping beats and flashing lights make this a fun spot, but it felt more like a pass-through than a true party. A dedicated space to stop and dance would have really elevated the vibe.

Roaming Terrors
Chainsaw carnies, zombies, and even Art the Clown pop up unannounced, ensuring the streets are never safe. We didn’t catch Art this time, but just knowing he could appear adds extra tension.

Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay

Of course, Halloween Horror Nights isn’t just about houses and scare zones; the live entertainment continues to set the stage ablaze. The fifth and final iteration of Nightmare Fuel closes out the storyline that has thrilled fans for the past five years, and it does so in fiery fashion. This year’s show cranks the spectacle to new heights with jaw-dropping stunts, hypnotic dance, and that signature mix of fire and sensual energy that leaves the entire crowd buzzing. It’s the kind of show that doesn’t just entertain, it electrifies, sending guests back into the fog ready for another round of scares.

Final Thoughts

Halloween Horror Nights 34 is a frighteningly strong year, with houses that balance IP powerhouses and original nightmares, plus scare zones that are some of the most inventive in years. Whether you’re in it for the gore of Terrifier, the nostalgia of Jason Universe, or the sheer creativity of Dolls: Let’s Play Dead, there’s something for every type of horror fan.

Huge thanks to Universal for hosting us during media night; we’ll definitely be back in the fog again soon! And to all of you who followed along, thanks for joining us on another terrifying night at the world’s premier Halloween event.

Rip Ride Rockit Demolition Picks Up Speed at Universal Studios Florida

Rip Ride Rockit Demolition Picks Up Speed at Universal Studios Florida

Rip Ride Rocket demolition is progressing at full speed at Universal Studios Florida

Universal Studios Florida’s skyline is changing in a big way as the demolition of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit continues to gain momentum. On our most recent visit to the park, we found once-iconic New York backdrop missing one of its most recognizable facades: the replica of the Guggenheim Museum has been completely removed from the New York City set.

That’s not all. The Treble Clef element of the track, one of the coaster’s signature early features, has also been torn out. Even more dramatic, the entire portion of track that used to weave through the firehouse is now gone, leaving a noticeable gap in the park’s landscape.

At this point, only two major pieces of track remain: the loop over Central Park and the section hugging the lagoon. Both of these are still standing (for now), but both outer portions of the track structure that once framed this massive coaster have been demolished. What was once a towering feature of the park is quickly becoming a memory.

IMG

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has long been a divisive ride among fans—some loved customizing their music playlist and braving the intimidating vertical lift hill, while others felt the ride was rougher than it was fun. Now that the coaster is in full teardown mode, speculation is swirling about what might take its place in the future. While permits have pointed toward some type of roller coaster coming to replace Rip Ride Rockit, exactly what type of coaster and its theming remain a mystery.

For now, the only thing certain is that the days of picking your perfect ride song and screaming down Rip Ride Rockit’s red track are officially over. The wrecking crews are making fast work of dismantling this piece of Universal’s history, and soon, the skyline will be ready for its next big headliner.

Step inside Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza at Halloween Horror Nights 34

When the lights flicker and the doors creak, you’ll know you’ve stepped straight into the terrifying world of Five Nights at Freddy’s at Halloween Horror Nights 34. This house is an animatronic fever dream, and whether you’ve logged hours on the game, seen the movie, or are stepping into Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza for the very first time, you’re in for one chillingly fun night.

Five Nights at Freddy

The setup is simple: you wouldn’t last one night at Freddy’s, let alone five. From the moment you enter the darkened hallways of the abandoned pizzeria, you’re hunted by the most infamous crew in horror gaming—Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and yes, even the sinister Mr. Cupcake. Each animatronic is waiting in the shadows, ready to lunge when you least expect it.

Five Nights at Freddy

The house’s biggest “wow” factor comes from the jaw-dropping animatronics created by the legendary Jim Henson Creature Shop. The characters don’t just feel real—they are real. The detail on Freddy and his friends is incredible, and when they move, it’s equal parts awe-inspiring and bone-chilling. The sets are equally impressive, pulling you right into the security office, dining areas, and long, creepy corridors fans know all too well.

Five Nights at Freddy

Scare-wise, this one is packed with classic jump scares and edge-of-your-seat moments. Freddy and friends are relentless, appearing in flashes of light or looming silently just out of reach. Even seasoned HHN veterans will find themselves flinching at what’s lurking in the dark corners of this house.

Five Nights at Freddy

The Five Nights at Freddy’s house is immersive, terrifying, and absolutely worth running through more than once. Fans of the franchise will feel like they’ve stepped straight into the screen, while newcomers will still be blown away by the atmosphere and the larger-than-life animatronics. This is one of those houses you’ll be talking about long after you’ve made it safely back outside.

Step into Vault 33 via the Fallout House at Universal Studios Florida

War never changes… but Halloween Horror Nights sure knows how to make it fun. This year, Universal Orlando has transformed one of its haunted houses into a post-apocalyptic nightmare ripped straight from the hit Fallout franchise. Whether you’ve played the legendary video games or binged Amazon Prime’s new show, you’ll feel right at home (or rather, far from it) in this wasteland.

Fallout

From the moment you step inside, you’re plunged into Vault 33, where Lucy is reeling from her disastrous wedding day. The claustrophobic corridors give way to chaos as alarms blare and familiar faces appear. It’s not long before you escape the vault and head into the wasteland, surrounded by raiders, makeshift settlements, and scenes plucked directly from the show.

Screenshot

The story comes to life as you encounter The Ghoul, who in a chilling moment tries to sell Lucy for parts. Fans of the series will instantly recognize the grit and menace in his presence. Soon after, the Brotherhood of Steel storms in, with Maximus taking the spotlight. His towering T-60 power armor looks every bit as intimidating in person as it does on screen, and it’s one of the house’s standout moments.

Fallout

While this maze isn’t the scariest of the event, it doesn’t have to be. The real star here is the set design and attention to detail. From the rusting vault doors to the irradiated wasteland outside, the Fallout house is a treat for the eyes. Instead of relying heavily on jump scares, it immerses you in the universe, with Lucy popping up at moments to keep you on your toes.

For fans of the TV series or the games, this house is pure vault-worthy gold. For those just looking for frights, it may feel lighter on scares compared to others at the event, but the atmosphere and accuracy make it a must-do. It’s less about screaming and more about stepping inside a world you’ve only ever seen on a screen.

The whole experience is just so much fun, and you’ll definitely leave with a bag (or two) full of magic!

These new items include a variety of popcorn buckets, sippers, and mugs, adding to the ever-growing collection of unique themed merchandise.

The tradition of unique snack vessels at Disney Parks dates back to the introduction of simple plastic popcorn buckets in the 1990s. This tradition evolved significantly in 2010 with the debut of the first character-inspired bucket, a Mickey Mouse Ghost. Since then, the novelty lineup has expanded to include intricate mugs and themed sippers, all inspired by beloved characters and park icons.

Now, fans have a first look at the new novelties launching soon across Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line. The new items promise to continue the tradition of combining popular characters and themes with functional and collectible designs, allowing guests to snack and sip in style.
