Travelers Heading to the Orlando Area Theme Parks Could See Flight Cuts at Orlando International Airport

If you’re flying to Orlando soon for your next Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando Resort vacation, you might want to double-check your flight details. According to a new report from WFTV Channel 9 Orlando, Orlando International Airport (MCO) has been included on a list of 40 major U.S. airports that could face a 10% reduction in flights due to an FAA staffing shortage.

The FAA says the temporary cuts are aimed at maintaining safety amid ongoing challenges caused by the federal government shutdown, which began on October 1. Many air traffic controllers have been working unpaid, six days a week, and some have had to take second jobs or call out due to financial strain. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency is acting now to prevent fatigue-related safety risks from escalating.

“The system is extremely safe today and will be extremely safe tomorrow,” Bedford said, “but if the pressures continue, we’ll take additional measures.”

MCO officials told WFTV that they haven’t yet been formally notified by the FAA, but they’re aware of the report and monitoring closely. “If MCO is identified as one of the airports to be affected, airport officials understand the priority is to maintain safety in the national air space system,” the airport stated.

So what does this mean for theme park visitors? If you’re flying into Orlando in the coming weeks—especially ahead of the busy holiday season—expect potential flight delays, limited routes, or last-minute schedule changes. With Orlando being one of the country’s busiest airports (and the main gateway to Disney and Universal), even small reductions could create ripple effects during peak travel times.

Other Florida airports, including Miami International and Tampa International, are also expected to be affected by the same 10% cut.

For now, travelers heading to Orlando should:

Check flight status updates directly with your airline before leaving for the airport
Allow extra time for travel, especially if connecting through another major hub
Consider arriving a day early for big vacation plans or park reservations

MCO has reassured travelers that safety remains the top priority, but with controller staffing stretched thin, a little extra planning could save a lot of travel stress before your theme park getaway.

Fantasyland Shines with All-New Christmas Decorations at Magic Kingdom

There’s a little extra pixie dust in the air this week, as Fantasyland has officially joined the Magic Kingdom’s holiday celebration — complete with brand-new themed Christmas décor! From honey-dripped garlands to jewel-covered trees, this year’s decorations are giving Fantasyland’s storybook charm an extra merry makeover.

Over by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, lampposts are wrapped in garlands that look straight out of the Hundred Acre Wood. You’ll spot golden ribbons, honey dippers, yellow and white blossoms, and even tiny bees buzzing among the bows. The ride’s sign now features adorable heffalumps designed like bees against honeycombs — a whimsical touch that Pooh fans will love.

Inside the queue, the Halloween jack-o’-lanterns have been swapped for Christmas gift boxes, each one themed to a different resident of the Hundred Acre Wood. Eeyore’s blue present has a pink ribbon and a tuft of black hair, Piglet’s pink box comes with a sunflower, Rabbit’s gift features a bunch of carrots, and Pooh and Tigger’s boxes are dripping with honey. It’s pure storybook magic from start to finish.

Across the way, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has struck Christmas gold (and maybe a few rubies and sapphires). The attraction now features garlands glittering with colorful gemstones, red bows, and delicate white flowers. A themed Christmas tree has also popped up nearby — topped with crossed pickaxes instead of a star and “overflowing” with buckets and carts of sparkling gems. It’s a festive tribute to the dwarfs’ mining adventures and one of the most creative holiday trees in the park.

Fantasyland’s new decorations join the rest of Magic Kingdom’s holiday transformation, including the park’s towering Christmas tree and Main Street U.S.A.’s timeless garlands and wreaths. Together, they make the happiest place on Earth sparkle just a little brighter this season.

The beloved lakeside dinosaur at Echo Lake is one of those Disney holiday icons that feels like a warm hug from seasons past. Her snow-capped back may stick around year-round, but the addition of her Santa accessories means the most wonderful time of the year has truly arrived.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Lobby Transformation Nears Completion

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, long celebrated for blending timeless Victorian elegance with classic Disney storytelling, is nearing the completion of its extensive lobby refurbishment. Guests visiting the resort have witnessed the gradual, inviting transformation over recent months, and the result is nothing short of grand.

The refreshed design successfully honors the resort’s heritage while celebrating the magic of discovery, blending classic charm with modern comfort in a love letter to the resort’s Floridian roots and the golden age of travel that inspired it.

Honoring Heritage and Introducing The Perch

Stepping into the lobby now feels both familiar and new. The space is illuminated by warm light filtering through updated stained-glass skylights, highlighting detailed woodwork and newly refreshed chandeliers. New furnishings, from vintage-inspired wood-framed seating to grand pier mirrors, have been thoughtfully designed to welcome today’s guests.

A major addition to the space is The Perch, the new lobby bar opening on November 10. Guests can grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere with a light menu featuring champagne, wine, and signature cocktails, including the Sunshine State Rum Sazerac and the Floridian 75. The bar’s design celebrates the Victorian era through intricate woodwork, elegant herringbone tile, and custom-stained glass shimmering with subtle bird motifs.

Artistry in Every Detail

The refurbishment extends to every surface, enriching the Victorian charm with layers of Disney magic. Above the grand staircase, a new impressionist-style mural beautifully imagines the Grand Floridian at the turn of the century, framed by Florida’s state tree, the royal and sabal palms. Beneath your feet, the new atrium carpet blooms with meaning.

Inspired by the Victorian “Language of Flowers,” the pattern celebrates hospitality and joy through native Floridian florals. Guests who look closely will find special nods woven into the design, including the orange blossom (Florida’s state flower), moonstones, and over 200 individual blossoms featuring several Hidden Mickeys.

While the lobby is nearing completion, the resort’s enhancements will continue. The Garden View Lounge is set to reopen in early 2026 with a refreshed look, offering a new tea experience with whimsical Disney touches for all ages. Additionally, the Grand Floridian Convention Center has received an elegant refresh, carrying the same refined design from the lobby and guest rooms into this celebrated event space.

Disney Parks Makes Fortnite Creative Debut with Disneyland Game Rush

The magic of the theme parks is crossing into the gaming universe as Disney announces the first-ever Disney Parks experience within Fortnite Creative. Launching tomorrow, November 6, Disneyland Game Rush is a playful, limited-time island designed to bring the happiness of Disneyland Resort to Fortnite players globally, all in celebration of the resort’s ongoing 70th Anniversary Celebration.

Disneyland Game Rush welcomes players into a celebratory central hub, complete with a replica 70th Anniversary sculpture inspired by Sleeping Beauty Castle, musical touches, and skyline nods to iconic Disneyland Resort landmarks. From the hub, fans can jump into seven quick-play mini-games that transform beloved attractions into classic Fortnite gameplay, each with an authentic Disneyland twist:

Star Wars: Stormtrooper Showdown: Inspired by Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disneyland park’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
WEB-Slingers: Spider-Bot Blasters: Inspired by WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure in Avengers Campus.
Space Mountain: Rocket Race: Inspired by the iconic Tomorrowland attraction.

Disneyland Game Rush launches tomorrow, November 6, inside Fortnite Creative for a limited time during the Disneyland 70th Celebration. Players can access the island by searching for “Disneyland Game Rush” in Fortnite, or by using the island code: 4617-4819-8826. Fortnite is free to download and available on all supported console, PC, and mobile platforms.
