How “Discover Your Destiny” Uses Arts & Mentorship to Empower Students

Disney Cruise Line is sailing a new mission: inspiring the next generation of artists. The company recently announced “Discover Your Destiny,” a unique community program that uses creativity and mentorship to encourage students in its port cities to explore careers in the arts, coinciding with the launch of the Disney Destiny on November 20.

Discover your destiny

The program brings Disney’s storytelling magic beyond the stage and into classrooms, offering mentorship, hands-on experiences, and professional development for educators. Through partnerships with local organizations, Disney Cruise Line will connect students with its entertainment professionals and provide resources to help them explore talents in theater, music, and the arts.

“At Disney Cruise Line, we believe in the power of imagination and the importance of nurturing the next generation of storytellers,” said Beth Thibodaux, director, external affairs, Disney Signature Experiences. “Discover Your Destiny gives students the chance to dream big, learn from Disney experts, and see firsthand how creativity can shape their future.”

Through Discover Your Destiny, Disney Cruise Line is creating opportunities for students and teachers to experience the magic of theater and mentorship in these key port communities:

  • Broward County, FloridaJunior Achievement South Florida students will step aboard the Disney Destiny for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the artistry and innovation behind Disney Cruise Line entertainment.
  • Brevard County, Florida – Disney entertainment mentors will guide students at Endeavour Elementary School as they stage their first-ever Disney Musicals in Schools production of 101 Dalmatians
  • The Bahamas – In Nassau, Abaco, and Eleuthera, Disney Cruise Line is partnering with the Shirley Hall Bass Foundation, an organization that supports performing arts education,  to deliver immersive theater and arts experiences, including a 10-week professional development program for teachers focused on integrating the arts into classrooms.

Disney Cruise Line shoreside cast and shipboard crew will volunteer in these programs, fostering meaningful connections and celebrating the transformative power of the arts.

Disney Destiny Conveyance

For more than 25 years, Disney Cruise Line has invested in programs that inspire young people to dream boldly. Discover Your Destiny builds on that legacy, reinforcing the company’s commitment to empowering youth and creating pathways for future careers in entertainment.

The Disney Destiny is the newest ship to join Disney Cruise Line’s growing fleet, marking a significant milestone in the cruise line’s multi-year expansion plans to bring the magic of Disney cruises to new audiences around the world. This expansion will grow the fleet to 13 ships by 2031, and also includes the Disney Adventure, which will homeport in Singapore beginning in March 2026; a fourth ship in the Wish class expected in 2027; the introduction of a brand-new class of ships in 2029; and an agreement with Disney and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) to introduce Disney cruise vacations to Japan in 2029.

The sister ship to the Disney Wish (2022) and the Disney Treasure (2024), the Disney Destiny draws on the legacies of larger-than-life heroes and villains from Disney, Pixar and Marvel to offer new and guest-favorite experiences steeped in legendary Disney lore. Highlights include an original Broadway-style adaptation of “Hercules;” entertaining dining experiences inspired by “The Lion King” and Marvel Super Heroes; immersive meet-and-play experiences with beloved characters; a Mickey Mouse-themed water attraction; one-of-a-kind lounges inspired by Cruella de Vil and Doctor Strange; imaginative kids’ clubs; and signature fireworks at sea.

Disney's Holiday Short Best Christmas Ever Coming Soon

Disney revealed the news on Instagram with the caption, “You’ve got a friend in us,” hinting that this seasonal story will carry the warmth and whimsy fans have come to expect from Waititi’s storytelling style, with perhaps a Toy Story tie-in?

This isn’t Waititi’s first foray into Disney holiday storytelling. In 2024, he directed The Boy and the Octopus, a touching tale about a young boy who befriends a curious sea creature that attaches itself to his head during a seaside vacation. The short quickly became a fan favorite for its heartfelt tone and signature Waititi humor.

Fifth Guest Death in Recent Weeks Reported at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

A somber update has come out of Walt Disney World today, as a person was confirmed deceased at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, the fifth reported death across Disney resorts in just the past several weeks.

Guest Dies at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort

According to public safety reports shared by @wdwactivecrime, emergency responders were dispatched to Saratoga Springs around 3:18 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, for a “Person Down” call. The call was later updated to a “Dead Person.” As of this evening, neither Disney nor the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released an official statement.

The tragic news follows a string of recent fatalities at Walt Disney World properties. On November 2, a woman in her 40s was found unresponsive at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, with investigators ruling out foul play. Just days before, a man in his 60s was found deceased at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which authorities classified as a suicide. Another man, also in his 60s, passed away at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground from a pre-existing medical condition.

The first in this recent cluster occurred late last month when 31-year-old Disney superfan Summer Equitz died at the Contemporary Resort in what officials described as an “apparent suicide.”
