What We Know (So Far) About ‘The Princess Diaries 3’

Fans went crazy after an announcement that Disney is formally developing a third ‘Princess Diaries‘ movie. There are many details that have not been shared by the studio which is causing a lot of confusion online. To help clarify, we wanted to share what we know so far and put some rumors to rest (or at least until Disney confirms them!)

Casting: No official casting list has been announced, but many of the original primary cast members from both films have previously shared that they are open to reprising their roles including Anne Hathaway (Queen Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, aka Mia), Julie Andrews (Queen Dowager Clarisse Renaldi), Chris Pine (Lord Nicholas Devereaux), Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz), and Mandy Moore (Lana Thomas). Though Julia Andrews has expressed concern that the sequel may have come too late.

Andrews once shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “It would be too late to do it now. There was talk of a sequel many, many years ago. But I don’t think it ever came to pass.” Andrews added, “Especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible.”

Rumor has it that Robert Schwartzman will be returning as Michael Moscovitz, but this is strictly a rumor at this time.

Script: According to series author Meg Cabot, Anne Hathaway, and Producer Debra Martin Chase, Aadrita Mukerji has created a script for the sequel which will be a continuation of the original movies, not a reboot.

Setting/Location: The new script will reportedly take place in Genovia, but it is unknown if the Queen will be traveling for her Royal Duties. (Potentially back to the States?)

Dedication: The Princess Diaries 3 will be made in honor of late director Garry Marshall, who directed both of the original Princess Diaries films for Disney.

Premiere/Release: It is currently unknown if The Princess Diaries 3 will premiere in theaters or become a Disney+ Original Movie and stream exclusively on Disney+.

Disney Parks Presented with Three Prestigious Thea Awards at the IAAPA Expo. The Expo last week was a sight to behold for a first-timer. From New rides being announced from Seaworld to new tracks and attractions, and everything from concessions to amusement operators. We saw new water park technology and the future of ticketing. We also got to witness the award ceremony where Disney Parks and Entertainment walked away with a few awards.

What do Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and the “Main Street Electrical Parade” have in common? Disney? Yes. Light(sabers)? Yes. Top industry awards? Yes!

This week, at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo, the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) announced that Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products will be presented with three prestigious Thea Awards in 2023. Internationally recognized, the Thea Awards represent the excellence found throughout the themed entertainment industry.

Additionally, IAAPA announced that Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products is the recipient of nine Brass Ring Awards for Live Entertainment Excellence, Games and Merchandise Excellence, and Food & Beverage Excellence. The Brass Ring Awards recognize global innovation and the unwavering spirit of the industry.

“I’m so proud of our teams who continue to delight our guests and consumers by pushing industry boundaries,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. “These accolades illustrate our legacy of innovation, as evidenced by projects that opened 50 years apart being awarded together.”

The revolutionary vacation experience, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, was recognized with a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement. It’s the most immersive Star Wars experience ever created with the integration of physical, digital, and live entertainment elements into one cohesive story that plays out over the course of multiple days and nights.

Another first-of-its-kind experience, the “Main Street Electrical Parade,” will receive the Thea Classic Award, recognizing an experience that has stood the test of time. The “Main Street Electrical Parade” celebrated its 50th anniversary earlier this year—first debuting with its unforgettable sights and sounds in 1972.

More news from the IAAPA Expo is that Tokyo DisneySea is the recipient of the Liseberg Applause Award, which recognizes outstanding theme parks worldwide. Magic Kingdom Park was the historic first recipient, making Disney theme parks the first and latest honorees.

Recognizing her innovative spirit and multiple accomplishments in the field, Disney Live Entertainment Creative Director Susana Tubert will receive the Thea Catalyst Award, reserved for an individual who has achieved a real and positive impact on the culture of our industry.

Based at the Disneyland Resort, Susana is a multi-faceted creative leader who inspires artistic risk-taking with an emphasis on story and relevancy. She has contributed her talent, leadership and experience to the development of beloved shows including the recently opened “Tale of the Lion King,” the dazzling new grand finale of the “Main Street Electrical Parade,” the emotional multimedia and fireworks show “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular,” and other highly successful and immersive cultural celebrations and events, such as Disney Festival of Holidays, “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!,” Lunar New Year Celebration, Plaza de la Familia, Pixar Fest, and “Pop-Up Disney! A Mickey Celebration.” Susana also was a creative contributor to the recent updates to the Jungle Cruise attraction.

“I would like to thank TEA and IAAPA for this amazing recognition—and most importantly, for their steadfast dedication to advancing our industry and keeping us connected globally,” said Barbara Bouza, president, of Walt Disney Imagineering. “As our Imagineering and Live Entertainment teams continue to deliver magic and inspire humanity, it’s an honor to be recognized by our colleagues and friends around the world. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to this year’s Thea Catalyst Award recipient, Susana Tubert, who continues to be an influential and inspiring leader.”

Disneyland Parade Entertainment Cast Member and Father Killed by Drunk Driver

We are saddened to report that a drunk driving accident took the lives of Hannah Jacks and her father Daniel Jacks last Sunday, November 13, 2022 in California. Hannah (19) was a Disneyland Parade Entertainment Cast Member and Daniel (45) worked for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years.

In honor of their memory and to help cushion the financial burden of the Jacks family, a memorial fund via HelpAHero.com has been started to support Denay (mother and wife) and Brent (son and brother) as they navigate their lives without Daniel and Hannah by the Riverside County Deputy Sheriff Relief Foundation. The excerpt from the memorial fund reads:

“The night sky has gotten a bit brighter. Daniel and Hannah were quite the team. Silly faces and countless laughs, the relationship as father and daughter was immeasurable. Daniel’s pride in all Hannah did was known and felt by all.

Daniel, 45, was part of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department since 2008. His love for his family was evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. All of his son’s soccer games, every recital Hannah danced in, Daniel was there no questions asked. Taking selfies with the dog next door, to send to their owners, just because he knew it would get a good laugh. That was the kind of fun he would have because-well why not.

Hannah, 19, dancer, performer, and full of life instructor. She knew what she wanted and she was making it happen. Dancing and performing since the age of two, Hannah was a force for the Arts. Headlining in several shows, she had that passion and desire that radiated in all she did. Her most recent dream that she made come true was to be a performer at Disneyland.

The loss of these two beautiful people has left a huge void in so many hearts. The world was better to have known them. Father and daughter together for eternity. Her daddy never left her side…

Daniel and Hannah leave behind a son and brother, Brent, 16, and a wife and mother, Denay. They will be missed and loved always.

Thank you for your generous donations that go to the Jack’s family during these difficult times.”

Disney Confirms ‘Sofia the First’ Spinoff Series is in the Works

SofiatheFirst

Emmy Award winner Craig Gerber, the creative force behind Disney’s acclaimed series “Sofia the First,” “Elena of Avalor” and its newest hit “Firebuds,” has extended his overall development deal with Disney Branded Television. Gerber also wrote the television movie that launched Disney’s first little girl princess, “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess,” which debuted 10 years ago (Nov. 18, 2012) and remains TV’s #1 cable telecast of all time among Girls 2-5.

Under the extended agreement, Gerber is developing a “Sofia the First” spinoff series set in Royal Prep Academy, a school for princes and princesses in the fictional kingdom of Enchancia. This is his second series in development for Disney Branded Television through his production banner, Electric Emu. Gerber also has a previously announced series in development at Disney with Kris Wimberly (“Elena of Avalor,” “Firebuds”) about a time-traveling treasure hunter who recovers lost family treasures. The series is created by Wimberly and will be executive-produced by both Wimberly and Gerber.

Alyssa Sapire, senior vice president of Development, Series and Strategy, Disney Junior, said, “Craig’s commitment to representing diverse characters and stories with messages of compassion, leadership and resilience is a throughline in his career. His ability to tell entertaining, heartfelt and meaningful stories that resonate with both children and adults alike is unmatched, and I look forward to continuing our partnership for many, many years to come.”

Gerber said, “I am excited to be continuing my creative partnership with both Alyssa and Disney Branded Television. Together, we have produced three meaningful, diverse shows, and I am looking forward to broadening the scope of our collaboration while also championing new voices. It’s particularly thrilling to return to the enchanted world of ‘Sofia the First,’ where it all began 10 years ago, and create a follow-up series that is just as magical.”

“Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” tells the story of a little girl who becomes a princess when her mom marries the king, and it ushered in four seasons of the Emmy Award-winning “Sofia the First” series, currently streaming on Disney+. It starred Ariel Winter (“Modern Family”) as Sofia; Sara Ramirez (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Queen Miranda; Travis Willingham (“Legend of Vox Machina”) as King Roland; Wayne Brady (“Whose Line Is It Anyway”) as Clover, a wise-talking Rabbit; and Tim Gunn (“Making The Cut”) as Baileywick, the family’s Royal Steward.

Among “Sofia the First”‘s accolades are multiple Emmy Awards, including for the theme song, which Gerber shares with the series’ songwriter/music director, John Kavanaugh, and for Outstanding Music Direction and Composition for composer Kevin Kliesch. “Sofia the First” staff writers Laurie Israel and Rachel Ruderman were also awarded a Humanitas Prize for the episode “Dads and Daughters Day,” which highlighted Sofia’s blended family and her relationship with her step-father and step-sister.

The series created multiple extensions across the Disney businesses, including Disney Parks & Resorts, where the Sofia character still makes special appearances. “Sofia the First” dolls, costumes and apparel are available at Amazon.com/disneyjunior, as well as children’s books inspired by the series from Disney Publishing Group available at DisneyBooks.com, including the New York Times best-seller “Sofia the First.”

Our Spoiler-Free Review of Disney’s ‘Disenchanted’ Now Streaming on Disney+

Disney fans have eagerly awaited the premiere of Disney’s ‘Disenchanted’ on Disney+ and many have been curious about exploring Giselle’s story after her “Happily Ever After”. Though we will not share spoilers for the film, we will touch on themes and topics featured in the film and the trailers, so if you wish to avoid any hint of a spoiler we recommend you stop reading beyond this point. Thank you!

Amy Adams (Giselle Philip), Patrick Dempsey (Robert Philip), Idina Menzel (Queen Nancy), and James Marsden (King Edward) have all returned in their respective roles for the sequel, with franchise newcomers Gabriella Baldacchino (Morgan Philip), Maya Rudolph (Malvina Monroe), Yvette Nicole Brown (Rosaleen), Jayma Mays (Ruby), Kolton Stewart (Tyson Monroe), Griffin Newman (vocal, Pip) and Alan Tudyk (vocal, Scroll).

A synopsis of the film reads, “Years after her happily ever after, Giselle, Robert and Morgan move to a new community and Andalasia and the real world are thrown off-balance.” For a little more insight, the film follows both Giselle and Morgan as they navigate the trials of life after moving to the suburbs from NYC, Giselle having a baby, and as a (Step) Mother and Daughter struggling through formative teenage years.

The score for the film was composed by Disney Legend Alan Menken, and though a handful of songs were fun and catchy such as Even More Enchanted, Badder, and Love Power, we couldn’t help but feel that a few pieces felt forced simply to establish character integrity instead or standing out on their own or progressing the story.

Amy Adams did a fantastic job returning as Giselle and immediately brought us back into the world of Enchanted. Once the wishing spell goes array, Amy’s acting shines through as Giselle struggles with her role, going from “protagonist princess” to “wicked step-mother”.

We also appreciated that Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) played a more authentic teenager than we standardly see in film and television. Though Morgan struggles with rebellion and change, she truly tries to be honest about her feelings and concerns. She wants to feel heard. Morgan’s story was compelling and watching her blossom throughout the movie was wonderful to see.

Dempsey had shared previously that this time we would get to see Robert “sing and dance” and we would be lying if we didn’t share that Patrick’s performance made us giggle a bit at the sudden change in character. Robert’s role in the sequel was not as prevalent as the original movie, but his story did remind us to remember what is important in life and to hold on tight to the love and support you have.

The easter eggs and references throughout the film were fun to spot and hear. We will be watching again to see if we can catch even more! The costuming was very well done, but there doesn’t seem to be reference to Giselle’s business she began at the end of the original film which would have been nice to see.

The new cast members played their parts well, but lacked depth that would make them more formidable or relatable depending on the role. Personally, we would love to have seen the trio of Maya, Yvette, and Jayma’s characters have a musical number of their own to add to their dynamic and backstory.

Overall, we enjoyed Disney’s ‘Disenchanted‘ but can’t help feel like there was more that the filmmakers wanted to be shared and likely ended up on the cutting room floor for brevity. Additionally, we would have loved to hear and see more synchronization from the soundtrack.

The perspective change from Robert and Giselle to Giselle and Morgan was handled well and the cast played off standard fairytale troupes and clichés to tell a compelling story about the importance for love, memories, trust, family, and support. If we had to put it on a 1-10 scale, ‘Disenchanted‘ would sit at a solid 6/10. The decision to release the movie exclusively on Disney+ instead of in theaters was definitely the best decision, but we were not disappointed on family movie night.

What did you think of Disney’s ‘Disenchanted‘? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. ‘Disenchanted‘ is now streaming exclusively on Disney+. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for updates and all things Disney!

Guest Claiming to be Secret Government Agent Demands Refund for Disney World Park Admission

This past summer Disney World Guest Relations received one of the weirdest requests for a refund for Theme Park Admission.

A 37-year-old Chicago man wanted a full refund for his theme park tickets when he visited Guest Relations in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 14th, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s report.

Read on as this article gets much weirder…

park hours

According to the Chicago Man, the request for a refund was due to him being a secret government agent on a special mission to review security measures at the Disney Theme parks.

“The man told several cast members that he needed a full cash refund for his tickets because it was more secure, and he needed passes to get to the front of the lines but was not permitted to give them more information for security reasons,” the sheriff’s report said.

What makes his request really sad is that the Chicago Man also brought along his 6-year-old son to help him with this super secret government mission.

At this point, an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy got involved.

The undisclosed man kept going with his claim to Orange County Sheriff’s deputy meanwhile having no proof he was on his super secret government project. The Deputy spoke with the man’s 6-year-old son who claims he does this sort of thing quite often but still enjoys spending time with his dad.

Disney World issued a trespass warning but the man was not arrested and Orange County Sheriff’s deputy wrote an incident report to document the man’s statements on record and to provide us with a very interesting article. LOL

Talk about hearing it all… At least he wasn’t a Florida Man as that would have made this article even funnier.
