No Standby Queue Will Be Offered To Access Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

No Standby Queue Will Be Offered To Access Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening at Disneyland Park on May 31.  This highly anticipated opening will require a reservation, at least initially, to journey to this galaxy far, far away. Reservations will be required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge between May 31 and June 23, 2019.  Registered guests that are staying at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian, or Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel during this 24-day window will each receive one reservation to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.    There will also be a limited number of reservations for theme park visitors not staying in one of these three hotels.  Details regarding this system will be released at a later date.

What is known, however, is that there will NOT be any standby access offered to guests without reservations to access the new immersive land. “There will be no standby access to the land and we want to make sure that that’s clear for guests,” said Disneyland Vice President Kris Theiler. “We don’t want guests coming to the park thinking, ‘I don’t have a reservation. Maybe I’ll just get in the queue and I’ll be able to get in.’ We’re not going to have a standby line. So it will be limited solely to those guests that have reservations.”

It is important to note that the reservations will most likely not give guests access for the entire day.  “We will be giving guests a window of time, but we’re still working through what that looks like and the duration for that,” she said. “We know guests might want to stay in there all day, but we’ve got a whole big group that wants to get in there. We’re just trying to balance all those things and really deliver the right solution for our guests.”

Visitors will not have free access to everything once inside during this reservation required period.  First come, first served queues will be located at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Oga’s Cantina, Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers, and Droid Depot.  Disney plans on offering atmosphere talent, mobile app games, snack vending options, as well as a bathroom pass, for those waiting in the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run queue.  (That bathroom pass will definitely be key especially with the predicted wait times!)  The need for reservations at these locations will be reassessed after June 24.

A virtual queue system is currently being developed for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to be used once this reservation period has ended.  This will allow guests to visit other areas of Disneyland while waiting to enter.  “Guests won’t have to spend the bulk of their time standing outside of the land waiting to get into the land,” Theiler said. “This will allow our guests to take advantage of all the other great things at Disneyland park.”
