To celebrate, the storytellers at Disney have released a new episode of “As Told By Emoji”, the popular digital series that retells Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm classics with emojis. The latest video pays homage to Mickey in an adorable throwback of the mouse’s debut 89 years ago, Steamboat Willie.
Emojis have quickly become a worldwide sensation becoming the new language that changes the way audiences communicate. It’s only fitting that the world’s best storytellers, Disney, revamp their iconic films in a way unlike ever before: emoji.
The series has since garnered a global fanbase, capturing the hearts of millions – 150 million total views, in fact – and having been translated to 20+ languages.
This is Disney’s latest endeavor in delivering innovation in storytelling for audiences of all ages with more than 250 million minutes watched across the globe. Disney invites fans to travel back to the beginning, to Mickey’s debut almost a century ago just to emphasize how far the legendary studio has come – and how the stories told are timeless across generations.
